Plagg, the kwami of Destruction, is one of the main characters in "Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir." He's connected to the Cat Miraculous, which lets the wearer transform into a black cat-themed superhero called Cat Noir using a magical ring.

In the main universe, Plagg is currently with Adrien Agreste, who uses these powers to fight alongside Ladybug and protect Paris from villains.

In an alternate universe, a dark version of Adrien becomes the supervillain Claw Noir. But after being reformed by his good counterpart, Adrien joins the heroes as Paw Noir to battle against the evil Betterfly and the Supreme, redeeming himself.

In another timeline, Zoé Lee owns Plagg and the Cat Miraculous, becoming the superheroine Kitty Noire to guard her world. In yet another universe, Marinette Dupain-Cheng wields the Cat Miraculous as the mysterious superheroine Lady Noire.

Across these different realities, Plagg remains a constant force, with his powers shaping the destinies of various Adriens, Zoés, and Marinettes as they defend their worlds from danger.

Appearance

Plagg, the kwami of Destruction, stands at a diminutive 10 centimeters (or 4 inches) tall, his compact form reminiscent of a feline. His sleek black fur, paired with vibrant green eyes, cat-like ears, and delicate whiskers adorning his forehead and cheeks, lend him an air of mystique. Inside his tiny mouth lies a startling purple hue, punctuated by two pointed canines—a subtle hint of the power he wields.

In his true, colossal form, Plagg undergoes a dramatic transformation. Towering in height, his physique becomes distinctly humanoid, though enhanced with three sets of muscular arms ending in four-fingered hands with razor-sharp claws. Immense bat-like wings sprout from his back in triplets, while his legs elongate, tapering to sharp points at the feet. A third, vertical eye emerges on his forehead, piercing and intense. His whiskers grow to impressive lengths, framing his face in wispy tendrils. Two serpentine tails coil around his legs, intertwining elegantly.

Yet the true marvel lies in the gashes and cracks that riddle his body. A cavernous chasm splits his chest, revealing the neon green energy pulsating within. At his joints—shoulders, forearms, wrists, knees—deep fissures sever his limbs, yet they remain connected, hovering as if tethered by an unseen force. This macabre display of anatomy does not hinder Plagg; instead, it seems to augment his power. Electricity crackles across his form in luminous green tendrils, casting an eerie glow that emanates from his very being.

In an alternate universe, Plagg's counterpart bears an identical appearance, save for one stark difference: a crimson and black seal etched across his mouth, an ominous mark placed by the enigmatic Supreme, rendering him voiceless and unable to speak.

Personality

Plagg's personality is a complex tapestry of contrasting traits that make him a fascinating character. At his core, Plagg exudes a carefree and easygoing demeanor, relishing in the simple pleasures of life and maintaining an optimistic outlook even in trying circumstances. However, this laid-back attitude often gives way to moments of negligence, overindulgence, and laziness, leading him to take situations far less seriously than he ought to.

Adrien, his current owner, describes Plagg as out of control and arrogant. Master Fu, the guardian of the Miraculous, paints an even starker picture, labeling the kwami as reckless and rebellious, especially when left to his own devices without the guiding hand of an owner. This rebellious streak is evident in Plagg's defiance of Master Fu's orders, such as his decision to disobey instructions to remain still.

Despite his laid-back nature, Plagg understands the gravity of his role as Cat Noir's kwami. When donning his superhero persona, he becomes dead serious, recognizing the immense responsibility that comes with great power. Through repeated experiences, Plagg has come to understand that mistakes are inevitable, but rather than fleeing from them, one must stand tall and strive to rectify the damage, as exemplified in the "Miraculous New York Special" episode.

Plagg prides himself on being brave and embracing the free spirit within him. Unlike his owner, Adrien, Plagg doesn't mind being cooped up and prefers to focus on the silver linings in any situation. However, his easygoing personality often leads him to make poor choices that cause trouble, such as playing with Chloé Bourgeois' bracelet, which resulted in a heated argument in Miss Bustier's class after it got stuck on his head.

Plagg finds amusement in the misfortunes of others, particularly Adrien's, and seems to revel in the secrets they try to keep hidden. His curiosity often gets the better of him, as seen when he flew into Chloé's bag to uncover Ladybug's identity or when he attempted to explore Gabriel's safe. Plagg's snarky and mischievous nature comes through in his penchant for pranks and sarcastic comments, such as his enjoyment of playing the piano with Adrien or playing with wax figurine heads.

However, Plagg knows when to be serious, especially when the situation demands it. He tried to prevent Adrien from transforming into Cat Noir before he had fully grasped the intricacies of the Cat Miraculous. Moreover, Plagg was skeptical of Adrien's plan to reason with Volpina, believing a more assertive approach as Cat Noir would be more effective.

Beneath his carefree exterior, Plagg possesses a cool, calm, and collected demeanor. He can be focused, encouraging, and even kind, similar to Tikki. Plagg is not afraid to voice his opinions, especially when he believes something is a bad idea, such as when Adrien considered accepting the Snake Miraculous from Ladybug.

Unlike Tikki, Plagg is more guarded about sharing secrets related to Master Fu with his owner. He is cautious around individuals who seem suspicious or sneaky, displaying a keen ability to judge character, as evidenced by his warning to Adrien about Lila Rossi not being a trustworthy friend.

Plagg's one true love is cheese, particularly camembert. Adrien often uses this preference to his advantage, feeding Plagg cheese to fuel his transformation into Cat Noir or to persuade him when he is being uncooperative. Plagg's obsession with cheese sometimes leads him astray, as seen when he and Tikki were spotted by Olga Mendeleiev, leading to her akumatization.

Trivia

In "Ladybug & Cat Noir", Plagg tells Adrien about his past encounter with the genie of the lamp. Plagg appeared larger in the Ladybug PV, approximately the size of Félix's head. For Plagg's English dialogue in the show's animation, Matthew Géczy used a British accent. Plagg's name is derived from the word "plague." "Plagg" is also Swedish for "garment," but this is likely a coincidence. "Plagg" is similar to the sound of Cath Palug, a monstrous cat from Welsh folklore. He is based on a black cat, which is considered a symbol of bad luck in some cultures. Plagg is the first kwami shown using his powers independently of his owner, both in his physical form in "Style Queen," "Catalyst," and in his spirit form during the extinction of the dinosaurs. As of "Deflagration," Plagg is the second kwami behind Kaalki in using his Miraculous superpowers the most times on-screen, having used Cataclysm four times. Overall, Plagg is the kwami who has used his powers the most, whether on-screen or off-screen, with a total of eight instances. Plagg is the second kwami to have his Miraculous destroyed, which happened alongside Cat Noir in "Timebreaker" by the villain of the same name. However, this outcome was prevented when Ladybug journeyed back in time and stopped her. This event was followed by Fluff in the same episode and preceded Pollen, Nooroo, and Wayzz. In "Sapotis," it is revealed that Plagg keeps a stash of Camembert in a cupboard in Adrien's room. Plagg prefers not to eat any food besides cheese. However, there are several instances where he consumes something other than Camembert to recharge. In the third issue of Miraculous Adventures, he reluctantly eats a granola bar. In "The Puppeteer," he appears to display an interest in "buttery popcorn." In "The Dark Owl," he shares a macaron from Marinette's bakery with Tikki. In "Reflekdoll," he eats a macaron given to him by Marinette. Plagg can consume vast quantities of cheese in a short amount of time compared to real cats, which are mostly lactose intolerant. Plagg's craving for Camembert might be based on the belief that cats love milk, which they are made from, according to an old wives' tale. Plagg is known for his role in the leaning of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the destruction of Atlantis, and the complete extinction of dinosaurs. In "Furious Fu," Su-Han also mentions that Plagg was responsible for the extinction of dragons. Plagg's dislike of water is also a reference to how most wildcats and even most domestic cats hate water. Plagg is the third kwami to be used for evil, though briefly, following Nooroo and Duusu. Plagg and his Miraculous were used for evil, though only in an alternate timeline, in "Cat Blanc" by Cat Noir when he was akumatized into Cat Blanc and in "Ephemeral" by Shadow Noir, who used them along with the Butterfly, Peacock, and Ladybug Miraculous to make his wish come true. He is the first kwami to have his Miraculous used by a sentimonster.
