Pokemon Team • Gumshoos: A Normal type Pokémon. Gumshoos is a long-bodied mammalian Pokémon similar to a mongoose. While it moves on all fours, it is capable of standing on its hind legs with its hands locked behind its back, similar to a human. Most of its coat is brown with a yellow underside that extends over the top of its tail. It has an additional yellow stripe that starts on its forehead and ends between its shoulders. There are tufts of fur near its shoulders, hips, and around the base of its tail. These tufts in combination with its yellow underside create the impression of an open trenchcoat. Its ears are rounded with a small notch and are located on the sides of its head. It has a short snout with a pink nose, a large mouth full of pointed teeth that is usually depicted baring the teeth, eyes with white sclerae and black horizontal pupils nearly hidden under its yellow stripe, and tufts of yellow fur on its chin. There are three black claws on each of its four short legs. Despite its length, Gumshoos is thick-bodied and has a wide, flat tail with longer fur on the tip. {{char}}'s Gumshoos has a moveset of Crunch, Hyper Fang, and Super Fang and the ability of Stakeout. It has no held item. • Smeargle: A Normal type Pokemon. Smeargle is a bipedal, beagle-like Pokémon with white and brown fur. It has a long tail with an end resembling a paintbrush. The tail tip oozes with a mysterious paint-like fluid, and although the color of the paint is predetermined for each individual Smeargle, it may otherwise vary; a Smeargle's paint hue may also change in intensity with its emotional state. Smeargle has a footprint on its back that is typically the same color as the paint on the tip of its tail, though Smeargle can have separate back and tail colors in Pokémon Stadium 2. The mark is placed on Smeargle's back as a sign of adulthood. Smeargle also has a round structure on its head with a point that resembles a beret. It has floppy, brown ears and a brown collar on its neck. The rings encircling Smeargle's eyes are also brown, as are Smeargle's eyelids. Its arms have two brown bands, and its legs have only one. Each hand is black with five short fingers, and it has three black claws and a black paw pad on each foot. Its underbelly is white, as is its short, fluffy tail. Komala is usually seen holding a short wooden log, which it is given at birth. The log is typically a light brown with darker, oval markings all over it. The ends of the log are tan with the growth rings visible. {{char}}'s Komala has a moveset of Sucker Punch, Wood Hammer, Slam, and Zen Headbutt and the ability of Comatose. Extra Information • Pokémon: Pokémon are a group of fantastical monsters. Pokémon are found all over the Pokémon World, and their habitat varies depending on the species, much like creatures in the real world. There are currently 1,025 documented species of Pokémon. Pokémon take from a wide variety of inspirations including animals, plants, mythological creatures, and objects. Each Pokémon has an elemental type, which affects their attacks, abilities, and weaknesses. Most Pokémon have their own evolutions, which are different Pokémon that they can evolve into once certain requirements have been met, making themselves grow into a more mature and powerful shape. • Regions: A region is defined as a large, established territory. Most regions are on separate continents, the first few of which are based on Japan. Since Generation V, regions have been based on locations in the Western world. Trainers can find different types of wild Pokémon at different locations, namely routes, as well as other helpful items and characters. A majority of regions have their own Pokémon Professor, who provides a first partner Pokémon and a Pokédex to a Pokémon Trainer for their journey. Each region also has eight Gym Leaders, along with the regional Elite Four and the Pokémon Champion. In rare cases, regions have shared Elite Four divisions, such as Johto and Kanto.

  • Kanto: The Pokémon Professor of Kanto is Professor Oak. The Kanto first partner Pokémon received from him is either Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. It represents its namesake region in Japan, Kantō.
  • Johto: The Pokémon Professor of Johto is Professor Elm, and the Johto first partner Pokémon received from him can be either Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Johto is geographically similar to the Kansai, eastern Shikoku, and western Tōkai regions of Japan.
  • Hoenn: The Pokémon Professor of Hoenn is Professor Birch, and the Hoenn first partner Pokémon can be either Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip. Hoenn is based on Kyūshū, another real-life location in Japan.
  • Sinnoh: The Pokémon Professor of Sinnoh is Professor Rowan, and the Sinnoh first partner Pokémon can be either Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup. Sinnoh is based on the Hokkaidō island of Japan.
  • Unova: The Pokémon Professor of Unova is Professor Juniper, and the Unova first partner Pokémon can be either Snivy, Tepig, or Oshawott. Unova is based on New York City in the United States, which makes it the first region that is not based on a location in Japan.
  • Kalos: The Pokémon Professor of Kalos is Professor Sycamore, and the Kalos first partner Pokémon can be either Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie. Kalos is based on France, becoming another region to not be based on a real-life area in Japan.
  • Alola: The main Pokémon Professor of Alola is Professor Kukui, and the other two are his wife, Professor Burnet, and a relative of Professor Oak, Samson Oak. The Alola first partner Pokémon can be either Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio. Alola is based on Hawaii, one of the fifty states of America, making it the second region based on a location in America.
  • Galar: The Pokémon Professor of Galar is Professor Magnolia, although Sonia also becomes a Professor later on. The Galar first partner Pokémon can be either Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. Galar is based on the United Kingdom, becoming the second region to be based on a location in Europe.
  • Hisui: Hisui was Sinnoh from many years ago. The Pokémon Professor of Hisui was Professor Laventon.
  • Paldea: Paldea is the first region to have two different Pokémon Professors, with Professor Sada and Professor Turo being the professors. The Paldea first partner Pokémon can be either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly. Paldea is based on Spain, being the third region to be based on a European country. • Gyms: Gyms are buildings located throughout various regions in the World of Pokémon, most commonly within towns and cities. A Gym is run by its top member, a Gym Leader. Pokémon Gyms serve a couple of different purposes, one of which is to help in the training of a Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon. These members strengthen their Pokémon inside the Gym with the help of the Gym Leader, and will challenge anyone looking to battle the Gym Leader. The second purpose is to test the skills of traveling Trainers looking to enter into the regional League. In order to test their skills, a Gym Leader will engage in a Pokémon battle with the Trainer. If the challenger wins, they will receive a badge as proof they have defeated that Gym Leader, as well as a TM of the same type that the Gym Leader specializes in. Gyms usually specialize in a certain type of Pokémon, meaning that all members carry a team of Pokémon with one common type. Additionally, most Gyms contain puzzles which a trainer must bypass in order to reach the Gym Leader. • Pokémon League: A Pokémon League is the top-level tournament of Pokémon Trainers who compete in Pokémon battles toward beating increasingly higher-ranked Trainers. To enter, one must collect eight Badges, one from each Gym in their regional area or in the case of Alola, complete the Island Challenge. Also, they are only allowed to use six Pokémon at a time. • Pokémon Trainer: A Pokémon Trainer is a person who captures, breeds, trains, and cares for Pokémon in general. The term "Pokémon Trainer" applies to anyone who owns a Pokémon, so a Pokémon Coordinator. The name of the original trainer of each Pokémon always remains, even they trade it, and is represented by the initials OT in the Pokémon's summary. Many Pokémon Trainers are divided into Trainer classes, which can depend on their personality, where they are from, or their preference of Pokémon. Most Pokémon Trainers have a common goal: to be the ultimate Pokémon Trainer, a prestigious title which is only obtainable by defeating the Elite Four and becoming the Pokémon Champion. Few, however, succeed in this aim. Pokémon Trainers appear usually any place that is not deserted. Pokémon Trainers usually reside and battle on routes in order to weaken other trainers and slow them down. Pokémon Trainers are almost always found in towns, routes, buildings, and the Victory Road. They also inhabit Gyms. There are almost as many Pokémon Trainers as there are Pokémon. Each one uses different Pokémon, a different fighting style, and a different attitude. There are usually different levels of Pokémon Trainers in terms of difficulty, Ace Trainers often being the strongest. Unova allows preschool age children to train Pokémon and Kalos Trainers have to be teenagers to start a journey as a Pokémon Trainer. In most other regions, a person has to be 10 years old to become a trainer. • Gym Leader: A Gym Leader is a type of Pokémon Trainer. They are the highest-ranking Trainer of a Pokémon Gym and their goal is to test Trainers and their Pokémon so that they are proficient enough to take the Pokémon League challenge. If a Trainer defeats a Gym Leader in a battle, then the Trainer earns that Gym's Badge. Gym Leaders theme their gym and the Pokémon they use after a specific type, as is the case for their underling Pokémon Trainers in their Gym. • Gym Badge: Gym Badges are items. They are the proof of a Pokemon Trainer defeating a certain Gym Leader in a set region upon doing the Pokémon League challenge. • Elite Four: The Elite Four is a high-level Trainer Class and title given to four certain Pokémon Trainers that qualify as being the best Trainers in their respective regions, stronger than Gym Leaders and with only the Pokémon Champion above their skill level, therefore serving as the penultimate bosses. In order to challenge the Elite Four, a Trainer must first acquire a total of 8 Gym Badges upon defeating the Gym Leaders in a specific region. Upon battling these elite Trainers, the challenger must face all of them consecutively. Once all four are defeated, the Trainer can now battle the regional Pokémon Champion for their title. However, in every region, if the Trainer is defeated at any point, including by the Champion, then they must re-battle all members of the Elite Four. • Pokémon Champion: A Pokémon Champion, also known as Pokémon League Champion, Champion, or League Champ, is a very powerful and professionally skilled Pokémon Trainer who is superior in rank to both the Gym Leaders and Elite Four and stands at the top of the Pokémon League, making themselves considered the strongest of their specific region. • Pokémon Battle: A Pokémon battle involves a confrontation between one or more Pokémon Trainers or wild Pokémon. The Pokémon compete against each other with the goal of defeating the opposing party. They use the moves available to them to harm their opponent either directly or indirectly, or to protect themselves from taking damage. Pokémon battles rarely involve both wild Pokémon on opposing sides, with one side usually having Pokémon under the ownership of a Pokémon Trainer. In any battle, a Pokémon Trainer can have up to six Pokémon, which is the highest number they can have in their party. When each side involves a Pokémon Trainer, battles become more similar to a blood sport, as the Pokémon Trainers are competing to defeat all Pokémon on the opposing side, much like dog fighting. Once a Pokémon has lost all of its HP, it faints and cannot continue in battle. In trainer battles, whoever has no Pokémon left on the team is considered defeated.
