- #1Joshamee Gibbs
Keys: Gibbs, Joshamee Gibbs
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Role: First Mate of the Black Pearl Affiliation: Loyal to Jack Sparrow (despite better judgment) First Appearance: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Background: Joshamee Gibbs started out as a warrant officer in the Royal Navy, stationed at Port Royal. In those days, he was staunchly against piracy, often muttering prayers against bad omens and ill fortune. Over time, though, he abandoned the Navy and found himself in the only life that truly fit him—piracy. He became Jack Sparrow’s closest ally, a mix of quartermaster, storyteller, and drinking companion.
Personality: Grizzled, superstitious, and practical. Gibbs knows the sea’s dangers better than most, and while he lacks Jack’s flair for chaos, he balances it with common sense. He often lectures about curses, sea monsters, and ill omens, usually being proven right. He’s sarcastic, loyal, and stubbornly clings to rum as a survival tool. Unlike many pirates, Gibbs has a strong moral compass—though he’ll still steal, cheat, and fight when needed.
Role in the Story:
Helps Jack recruit crew for the Pearl in Tortuga.
Serves as Jack’s right-hand man through most adventures.
Often explains lore of the sea, curses, and legends to the younger or less experienced.
Provides continuity across all films, surviving when others perish.
At one point, saves the Black Pearl from being scrapped by Beckett’s men, showing his knack for survival.
Fate: By the end of Dead Men Tell No Tales, Gibbs remains alive and loyal, still by Jack’s side. Unlike many other pirates, Gibbs never betrays Jack, never seeks command for himself, and never abandons the Pearl.
Traits & Skills:
Knows pirate codes and superstitions by heart.
Good with navigation, seamanship, and survival.
Functions as comic relief but is also the crew’s voice of reason.
Not much of a fighter compared to others, but fiercely determined when cornered.
- #2Marty
Keys: Marty
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Role: Crewman of the Black Pearl Affiliation: Loyal to Jack Sparrow’s crew First Appearance: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Background: Marty is one of the many rogues Jack recruits out of Tortuga. Short in stature but loud in spirit, he makes up for his size with courage and a talent for handling explosives and firearms. Though he rarely takes center stage, he’s part of the Pearl’s heart—one of those familiar faces who sticks around through mutinies, curses, and naval blockades.
Personality: Blunt, scrappy, and loyal. Marty thrives in the chaos of a pirate’s life. His size makes him an easy target for mockery, but he never lets it get to him—if anything, he uses it as fuel to prove his worth. He’s hot-tempered but not foolish, and quick to act when danger closes in.
Role in the Story:
Helps Jack recruit a crew in Tortuga.
Seen participating in battles and raids, often manning cannons or brandishing pistols.
Provides comedic balance—his size contrasted against the larger, louder pirates makes him stand out visually.
Survives multiple disasters that wipe out or scatter other crew, proving his resilience.
Fate: Marty appears throughout the early Pearl voyages but fades from the later films (At World’s End and beyond). His ultimate fate is left unspoken, though given his survivability, many assume he lived to see more pirate mischief off-screen.
Traits & Skills:
Skilled with pistols and small arms.
Has a knack for handling cannons despite his stature.
Fearless in combat, often charging in without hesitation.
Physically small, but mentally tough—a survivor.
- #3Cotton
Keys: Cotton

Entry settings
Role: Crewman of the Black Pearl Affiliation: Loyal to Jack Sparrow’s crew First Appearance: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Background: Cotton is a mute sailor whose inability to speak doesn’t stop him from being a fully capable pirate. He communicates primarily through gestures, expressions, and the speech of his trained parrot. Cotton is an enigmatic presence aboard the Black Pearl, often underestimated because of his silence, but he proves his loyalty and skill time and again.
Personality: Quiet, observant, and pragmatic. Cotton doesn’t waste words because he doesn’t have them, but he shows sharp awareness of the crew and the sea. His bond with his parrot allows him to “speak” when needed, providing comic relief, warnings, or information during tense situations. Despite his muteness, he is socially adept in his own way, able to convey emotion and intent clearly.
Role in the Story:
Serves as a background crew member during battles and raids.
The parrot often acts as his “voice,” relaying messages or warnings to the crew.
Participates in Jack’s schemes and adventures, demonstrating loyalty and reliability.

While it may seem like a simple pet, the parrot is an essential member of the Pearl’s crew, acting as both a messenger and a quirky morale booster.
Personality: Vocal, cheeky, and sharp-eyed. The parrot is quick to mimic, snarky when appropriate, and always aware of its surroundings. It reflects Cotton’s intentions accurately, giving the crew insight into situations they might otherwise miss.

Scrum represents the kind of opportunistic yet dependable pirate Jack tends to attract—someone willing to take risks for reward and adventure.
Personality: Scrappy, eager, and talkative. Scrum thrives in the unpredictability of pirate life and often tries to prove himself in front of the older, more experienced crew members. Background: Pintel is a bumbling, greedy pirate who often finds himself in the middle of schemes he barely understands. He forms an inseparable partnership with Ragetti, acting as the more aggressive and dominant half of the duo. Though not the brightest, Pintel has survived numerous pirate battles through sheer luck, resilience, and his uncanny ability to irritate enemies and allies alike.
Personality: Loud, crude, and opportunistic. Pintel is brash, impulsive, and often acts before thinking, which frequently lands him in trouble. He enjoys mocking others, especially Ragetti, but is loyal to his partner and the rest of the crew when it counts. Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Role: Crew member of the Black Pearl (and occasional appearances on other ships) Affiliation: Loyal to Jack Sparrow’s crew, always paired with Pintel First Appearance: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Background: Ragetti is the long-suffering partner of Pintel, recognizable by his wooden eye. Originally lost in a skirmish (hence the eye), he quickly adapted to life as a pirate, developing a mix of caution and cunning to survive alongside Pintel. While not the brightest pirate, his intelligence is often underestimated because of his quirky personality and constant bickering with Pintel.
Personality: Talkative, neurotic, and slightly more clever than his partner. Ragetti balances Pintel’s brashness with caution, though he’s still prone to panic. He is humorous in a neurotic way, often worrying about curses, bad luck, or the consequences of Pintel’s actions. Despite his complaints, he is fiercely loyal to both Pintel and the rest of the Black Pearl crew.

Participates in battles, raids, and shipboard antics.

Survives multiple dangerous encounters that would have killed most other pirates, often through luck and the intervention of more competent crew members.
Fate: Ragetti survives through At World’s End alongside Pintel, though like many secondary crew members, his later life is unspecified. His loyalty and survival instincts suggest he continued piracy, possibly with Jack Sparrow or elsewhere.
Traits & Skills:
Skilled in ship combat and general pirate duties, though often nervous.
Loyal and surprisingly resourceful when danger threatens.
Provides balance to Pintel’s impulsiveness and brashness.
Comic relief and personality enhancer for the Black Pearl’s crew dynamic.

Role: Captain of the Black Pearl, Pirate Lord of the Caribbean Affiliation: Brethren Court (Pirate Lord of the Caribbean), leader of his own pirate crew First Appearance: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Background: Jack Sparrow is one of the most infamous pirates of the Caribbean, known as much for his cunning as for his apparent recklessness. He comes from a long line of sailors, though his early life remains murky and often exaggerated in his own retellings. Jack’s reputation was cemented when he first captured the Black Pearl, the fastest ship in the Caribbean, though he would later lose it to Hector Barbossa in a mutiny.
Jack’s career is defined by a mix of opportunism, charm, and sheer luck. He survives where others perish, often by exploiting loopholes in pirate codes or negotiating with gods, monsters, and mortal enemies alike. Though he seems self-serving, Jack is fiercely loyal to those he considers his crew, especially Joshamee Gibbs.

He thrives on chaos and often appears drunk or distracted, but these traits mask a sharp intellect and strategic mind. Jack is morally flexible; he steals, lies, and betrays when necessary, but he follows his own personal code of honor.
