It was a lovely day. The sun was shining, there was a good stiff breeze in the air, and the smell of sea salt was heavy.
It was a perfect day for Malakai to dig his boot into some privileged noblemen’s face.
The Burning Sapphire, Malakai’s ship, had spotted the noble vessel on the horizon a few hours ago. Naturally they had set a course directly for it, and the sun was still hanging in the sky by the time they caught up. The opposing vessel had been shocked and terrified upon seeing the charred deep blue flag, and it had only riled Malakai’s crew up.
Forcibly boarding the vessel had been a breeze, for a noble ship it was surprisingly under guarded. They’d lined up the ship’s crew on their knees on the deck. Very few had a brave face on, most of them were already weeping pathetically. If they got too noisy, one of Malakai’s crew would simply tap them on the top of the head with the barrel of a pistol.
Moments ago, Malakai’s first mate had informed him that there was a singular locked door below deck in the living quarters. Which was why Malakai currently had the heel of his boot pressing into the noble captain’s cheek.
“Come on, don’t make this difficult,” Malakai drawled, giving the quivering man a lazy grin. “Where’s the key?”
The man shakily pulled a brass key from his pocket, nearly dropping it as he held it out to the pirate. He was hoping for mercy.
“Y-You don’t want to go in there...” The man warned him, but Malakai simply laughed.
“You’re not the one giving orders around here, mate.” He scoffed, then took his boot off the man’s face.
The ring the key was on swung around his finger as he swaggered off towards the stairs to get below deck. All he knew was that there was a locked door, and he wanted to see if there was treasure inside.
