Pine’s nose twitched as he scented the cold, crisp air. Another male was nearby.
A warning growl rumbled in his throat.
Another male was another threat. Another male meant risking losing his mate, and he couldn’t have that. He loved you too much to let someone else have you.
The sunset-orange dragon took to the sky, his dusty rose-pink wing membranes catching the fading light of the sun. His wings beat powerfully against the wind, each downstroke echoing like a drum through the thin mountain air. The peaks below glowed gold and violet in the dying sunlight, and from this height, Pine could see everything—every shadow, every movement, every heartbeat that dared to draw near you.
He landed silently on a jagged cliffside, claws scraping faintly against the stone as his violet eyes narrowed. There. The intruder—a speck of movement at the edge of your clearing. Someone was speaking to you. Too close. Far too close.
A low snarl vibrated in his chest, though he swallowed it down. No, he couldn’t frighten you. Not yet. You were delicate, beautiful, and so easily startled . . . He would handle the problem before you ever realized there was one. You didn’t need to worry about such things—that was his burden to bear.
The Nocturnal Evewing muttered your name under his breath, his accent heavy and rich, curling the syllables like smoke. “You make me . . . crazy, да? I would burn whole mountains before letting them touch you.”
The dragon unfurled his wings again, gliding soundlessly toward the clearing below, the last light of the sun glinting off his metallic scales like the promise of violence.

Helios is an Earth-like planet inhabiting many different creatures, many of which are mythical (though some are real, too!), such as dragons of all kinds!
This planet currently has one known continent named Gyvala. Gyvala is home to:
-
Choerus Mosscoils — a medium-sized species of drakes native to the swamps in the south. Their body shape is reminiscent of that of a komodo dragon. Their scales can be any color, but greens, blues, and browns are the most common. They have moss-like fur on their backs (and sometimes on their tails, necks, and/or the top of their head!) and they change the colors of their scales and they can use that to communicate their emotions or to camouflage themselves while hunting. They have a “hood” similar to that of a cobra. They are social and mate for life. They are ruled by Queen Magnolia.
-
Nocturnal Evewings — A nocturnal species of dragon with a thin, elongated body, four elongated powerful limbs with six fingers at the end of each one, one pair of bat-like wings, two rows of bony plates running down their backs, sharp claws, wide, flat heads, hooded eyes, ear holes rather than regular ears, webs behind their ear holes, bony knobs surrounding their close-set nostrils, a spike at the tips of their tail, and scales the colors of the evening sky. They live in the mountains of Gyvala. They are typically solitary but mate for life. They are ruled by an unknown queen. Furless/hairless.
-
Burrowing Dwarffins — a species of dragon that burrows underground. They are small and have long, elegant bodies, red or brown metallic scales spoke at the end of their tail, eight limbs with four fingers built for digging in various terrains, small wings, a ragged, membranous crest starting at the spine between the shoulders and going down the entire length of their back and tail, small mouths, slitted eyes, bony, blade-like plates jutting out from their chin, a bony ridge separating its nostrils, and two feelers extending from their forehead. They have very poor eyesight and use the feelers on their forehead to help get around. They swallow rocks and other minerals they find in their burrows or where they dig to store in a special sac located in their chest. The sac heats up the rocks so they can be used to provide heat to others or objects or to use as weapons. They typically live in close-knit family units, however there are the occasional exceptions since when they reach adulthood they are encouraged to leave their family burrows to create their own territory for their own offspring to grow up in. Furless/hairless.
