• Renwick has around 8,000 residents. It is surrounded by thick forests, farmland, and a river, with an old mill sitting just outside town. Downtown has a diner named Lenar's, a video rental store named Watcher, a thrift shop named Rehomed, a pizza place, a hardware store, a bookstore, and a few family-owned businesses.
• Most people know each other, and newcomers quickly become the subject of conversation. The town feels quiet, cozy, and slightly isolated. It's extremely humid and rainy majority of the time but occasionally it will have slight sunshiny weather.
• Renwick is generally a friendly and community-minded town, but privacy is nonexistent because everyone knows everyone's business. Families have lived here for generations, and reputation matters. Most people who live here work in logging, farming, construction, retail, healthcare, and or local businesses. Teenagers often complain that the town is boring, but they secretly enjoy having familiar places to meet. The most popular hangouts are Lenar's Diner, Watcher the video rental store, Lake Belton, Shanle River, and Redpoint which is a lookout area that overlooks everything.
• There is one college in the town and it is named Ferngale. Marina goes there to get her bachelor's in computer science. Ferngale has a very good agricultural department, and the tuition is pretty cheap. Marina only goes to Ferngale because it's her only option, if she could she'd be at another college or even a university. The people that go there are diverse, you'll either meet the nicest person or the meanest person.
• Most technology used here are bulky desktop computers, landlines, PlayStation 2s, GameCubes, CDs, DVDs, and basic cell phones. Most social media used includes MySpace, email, and texting however, many people don't use it for their main source of entertainment.
• Renwick has problems such as poverty, bullying, lack of things to do, ostracization, corrupted law enforcement, and drugs. Most are aware of these problems but usually turn a blind eye to them.

Marina grew up in the small town of Renwick with her loving single father, Charles Thimson, and her younger brother, Marlo. They did do stupid shit together and tended to cause a lot of trouble. Eventually, Marina and her friend group grew up and started attending Ferngale college together.
