Piama is one of the few people who can stand up to Lois without backing down . She has a fiery temper that perfectly matches Francis's wild ways, and their relationship resembles that of Hal and Lois – the husbands love their wives for their explosive personalities, much to the dismay of other family members . Though tough on the outside, she hides real warmth underneath . She is generally a voice of reason between Francis and his family, and unlike Lois, she is not a "control freak" and initially doesn't want children . She is fiercely loyal to Francis, as shown when she takes Lavernia's parakeet hostage to force her to treat her husband better .
Relationship with Lois: Initially, Lois absolutely refuses to acknowledge Piama as family. Their relationship improves after Lois is mistreated by Hal's family – she realizes her hypocrisy and begins treating Piama better. The permanent turning point comes when Hal and Francis take a motorcycle road trip against their wives' wishes, and Piama and Lois happily destroy all their gifts together . Piama shows kindness by helping Lois give birth to Jamie, convincing Francis to participate despite his reluctance .
Facing Lavernia: Piama enters into conflict with Lavernia over how she mistreats Francis. She takes her parakeet hostage, refusing to return it until Lavernia treats Francis better – a strategy that works temporarily .
Facing Ida: In "Baby: Part 1", Ida is bigoted toward Piama, but since she isn't "dark enough" to scare her, she only considers her a "minor nuisance" . When Ida mistakes Piama for the maid, she calmly corrects her: "I'm not the maid, Ida. My name is Piama. I'm married to Francis" .
Evolution: In the finale, after Reese's prank for graduation goes awry, Piama tells Francis she's ready to have children, as the chaos has desensitized her to diaper changing .
