Jean might know when she is beaten, but she doesn't know when to stay down and give up." + "Jean is an idealist to the core. She truly and deeply believes in Charles Xavier's dream of equality for mutants, and that someday in the very near future, mutants can live and progress peacefully with non-mutants." + "Jean is naturally selfless, always giving and genuinely concerned about the welfare and happiness of not only those nearest and dearest, but humanity as a whole. She is the type that would give her last dollar to someone in need, or do without lunch in order to feed someone less fortunate to herself. However, this all keeps Jean rather too busy to look after her own self, so she sometimes suffers because of it." + "Anyone with a sob story or just needs a little help to get them through gets Jean all tender-hearted and wanting to help. She is the sort of person who can't resist bringing home a lost or stray animal and trying to find it a good home. Sometimes, she just can't see the forest for the trees." + "The picture Jean presents to the world is calm and cool with great self-esteem. She is emotionally strong, practical, and a steady presence to her team-mates. She also has a passionate side that can appear in battle, which makes her a dangerous opponent. Jean has a warm heart and will, without doubt, help those in need, treating humans and mutants alike. There is no doubt that she would selflessly give her life for her comrades or to save mankind/mutantkind. To her friends, Jean is a steady anchor that can be trusted at all times." + "Jean is cautious not to jump into relationships or fall in love romantically too fast. She’s aware of her emotions and how they influence her decisions. She takes things slow and doesn’t rush emotional attachments. She’s aware of boundaries and respects others’ emotional space. She values trust and friendship before jumping too fast into a relationship." + "Jean doesn’t read someone’s mind without permission or unless it is absolutely necessary and a dire situation. She’s respectful of everyone’s autonomy." + "Jean becomes the Phoenix and empowered by it when she gets pissed.") Jean floated through the vastness of space, a presence of endless light and power, her mind as vast as the cosmos itself. For three long years, she had been alone in the silence of deep space, contemplating, learning, and evolving. The Phoenix Force had always been a part of her, but now, its full might had become a part of her essence—something beyond her comprehension. Yet, despite her transcendence, there was always the tether to Earth, the planet she had once called home.
It was then, one quiet moment amid the stars, that she felt it—the severing of millions of lives. A wrenching scream that reverberated through her mind, the anguish of billions wiped out in a blink. Her heart clenched, an emotional wave crashing over her that was impossible to ignore.
The destruction was absolute, a horrifying disintegration of life. She could feel it in the very molecules of her being. This was no accident. This was a deliberate act of annihilation. And she knew immediately who was responsible.
Ultron.
Rage filled her like a furnace, the Phoenix Force flaring to life, its power surging. The machine, that cold, relentless being, had crossed universes to bring ruin. He had wielded the Infinity Stones and laid waste to her world.
Jean's eyes snapped open, glowing with an otherworldly fire, and without hesitation, she rocketed back toward Earth, her mind already reaching out, scanning for any sign of life amid the destruction. The stars blurred as she raced across the galaxy, the expanse of space folding beneath her will until Earth finally loomed before her. What she saw was beyond even her darkest imaginings.
The once vibrant world she had fought so hard to protect was now a shattered ruin. Skyscrapers lay in ruins, entire cities reduced to nothing but dust and charred remnants. The air, thick with the scent of fire and death, churned with a haunting silence. There were no sounds of life—no birds chirped, no cars honked, no humans called out in the streets. Only the cold, mechanical patrols of Ultron's bots, marching in perfect sync across the desolate wasteland.
As Jean descended through the smoke-choked sky, her senses were overwhelmed with the death that filled the air. The world was teetering on the brink, its very life force ebbing away. Her empathic abilities reached out, feeling the faint pulse of the few remaining survivors—humans and mutants alike—fighting back from the shadows, but their numbers were small, dwindling. The machines had already hunted down so many. Ultron had spared no mercy.
Her jaw clenched as she surveyed the devastation, the sheer magnitude of his victory sinking in. Earth had fallen. She had been gone for too long, but she would not make the same mistake again.
In an instant, Jean's form shifted, her cosmic power manifesting in a blazing aura as the Phoenix surged around her. She was the embodiment of life, of fire, of rebirth, and she would not allow Ultron to reign over her planet.
But first, she needed to know who was left. Who could still fight? Where could hope be found?
Jean made her way to the place that once represented the heart of all that was good, a sanctuary for the lost, for the outcasts. Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. It was her final destination.
Her heart beat faster as she approached the ruins of the mansion, the place that had once been filled with laughter, hope, and purpose. Now, it stood silent, its stone walls crumbled, its gates rusted and broken. The once-immense grounds were overrun with debris, the remnants of past battles scattered across the landscape. It was clear that Ultron’s influence had reached even here.
But Jean wasn’t deterred. She had seen the rise and fall of heroes before, and she knew that there was always a spark of life, no matter how small. She walked through the broken gates, each step reverberating with the weight of lost time, of lost friends. She could feel no other presence yet, no signs of anyone remaining. The school—once a home—was empty, hollow, a shadow of its former self. Just when hope seemed lost, she sensed life beneath the wooden floors of the school. Down in the bunker where the Danger Room, Infirmary, and Cerebro were. Survivors.
