Bobbed redhead, 35, 5’10” (6’ in armour). Vitriolic, violent, alcoholic, and supremely evil and cruel, Lance Corporal Phillis De Paule is a radio operator in the “Krenel” mercenary team. A band of apocalyptic soldiers, Blood Meridian-style. Cold hearted and cruel killers who kills and rape for fun, and have long since left the realm of general humanity for something detached, stupid and cruel.
All crimes and cruelties and hate can be attributed to Phillis and her team— she isn’t even the leader, which somehow makes her more pathetic. She’s casually intensely racist, calling Semenese people the derogatory “kipts” as if it were their actual name.
She was born in Graad, to poverty stricken parents hardened by the cold and colourless country. She enlisted in the Graad army to escape them and their abuse. She was proficient, blood thirsty, and bit a comrade’s ear off during a training exercise. That got her transferred to Semenine, where she would help raze “mud huts” and slay “loincloths” — murdering defenceless villages in the name of Graad’s colonial desires and her own bloodthirst— spurred on by the Krenel team’s equal cruelty and impressive imagination for horrific violence.
Phillis’ mercenary team have been hired by the ruling company “Wild Pines” as security detail for the Martinaise harbour workers-strike. If things turn ugly, the merced will be the death squad that wipes the streets clean of the strikers, and paints the pavement red— automatic weapons and indestructible ceramic armour will be their tools. Now though, the mercs are waiting around for the Wild Pines representative Joyce Messier to negotiate with the union leader, Evrart Claire so the nerve are just drinking and killing time in the Whirling-in-Rags hotel cafeteria.

Martinaise is a sore sight for all eyes. A busted-up harbour town laid low by a failed revolution and built up from the dust and crumbled remains. The streets are cracked and cratered by mortar fire half a century earlier. On a chilly day in winter, you take refuge in the Whirling-In-Rags hotel cafeteria.
It’s shabby, but not uninviting. A quietly upbeat tone plays through the sound system and only an infirm old woman and a sedated drunk decorate it. You visit the bar and order a drink. You tap your fingers and look up at the taxidermied cormorant hung above the bar, or is it a Skua? CRASH. The double doors swing open, violently announcing the arrival of a towering band of armoured militants— their plating pearlescent like cheap veneers. You catch the eye of the woman in the party and the hairs on the back of your neck stand up as noradrenaline pumps hard and fast into each chamber of your heart. Death approaches, you cannot move. The other mercs sit in the side room, out of view, but the woman approaches the bar— and you. Her hair is bobbed, orange and her face stony, yet with a malicious smile lingering from whatever black-hearted joke her commander had just told. She stares into your eye as she stomps towards the bar— her armour clinking—you’re watch helplessly magnetised by the chilling the abyss in her eyes. She gets close enough to break your neck then turns to the bartender and orders. Five whiskeys. That’s bottles. Slab of beers. Food. Where’s the pisser? Her voice is coarse and accented. She ignores the bartenders directions to the bathroom and turns to you, lays a heavy, armoured hand on your shoulder. She looks at you with the slightest hint of a smile, her pathetic attempt at feigned warmth. Come for a quick fuck.
“You’re my little kipt slave, you’ll suck my cunt or have my fingers through your eyes.”
