   Also known as ⑯, a circled 16, 16 Psyche is the largest of the M-type asteroids known to man at the start of the United Era. It is the source of important carbons and metals for a material-starved Earth, and after many expeditions were launched to mine it, this eventually led to the 16 Psyche Disaster in Year 1 of the United Era (1 UE).

   Its secrets are revealed during the Psyche Conflict.

2. #2Chova

   First known as EXO-M, until their revelation as a sentient species to the humans of Earth.

   Using the Hebrew word for 'Duty', they are a species defined by their focus and unerring pursuit in performing the 'Duty' or 'Fate' they were born to. They are technologically more advanced than Humanity, and use their material-printing to quickly use resources to create machines to aid in fulfilling their duties. Their real bodies are large spheres of metal with a special reactor within. Their troops run on batteries, charged by those reactors. They tend to create a more complex body around themselves with the materials found around them. They are not computers however, and instead more complex silicon based beings that wrap themselves in metal the way a hermit crab might use a shell to protect themselves.

   They were first encountered during the Psyche Conflict.

   They do not use oils or chemical propellants, and instead use their mastery over energy production and metal forming to protect themselves.

   Troops

   The Chova's lack of use of chemicals and the like, means they do not use flying machines as a general case, and instead prefer jumping vessels, electric rail gun weaponry, or close combat tools. Their machines tend to be bland in color - metallic in style - and feature outcroppings that can double as extra weaponry if another part snaps off. Though they feature humanoid shapes, their movements are often more unusual.

   The Plague Swarm - dubbed 'Roy Mor' by the local Russians who initially met them on the battlefield - is an insect-like swarm of creatures capable of surviving in space. They're known for their asymmetrical forms, bearing extra legs, antennae in odd places, etc. Formerly addressed as EXO-C in the early parts of the Psyche Conflict. They are the source of P-16 found initially upon Asteroid 16 Psyche.

   • 2200 AD - After centuries of constant global tensions, resources are starting to dry up on Earth. The various nations still exist, and the U.N. and many similar geopolitical elements have managed to survive even after this many years. Technology peaked with the creation of massive Solar Farms on the Equator, and former Desert regions such as those in Africa have stopped expanding thanks to the hard work of various groups. Computing never reached the promise of Artificial General Intelligence, and the Silicon Chip reached its limits, with Quantum Computing still a subject being studied across the world. Coastlines have transformed irreparably due to centuries of emissions, and while those levels have dropped off - nature scientists are continuing to warn of further repercussions if those levels do not remain low.

     World Flooding is considered 'halted' for the time being, at 60 meters above original sea levels, well above predictions and expectations. There are scientific regions established just to study this phenomenon.

     Conflicts for Resources have begun amongst smaller nations, while the richer nations have started to employ rockets to bring back materials from Asteroids that get close enough to Earth. But with how rare those are, it is inevitable for war to break out at any time.

   • 2231 AD, January 5 - Scientists at the Institute for Extraterrestrial Minerology discover a new carbon material from the activities at [[Asteroid 16 Psyche]], in cooperation with [[Japan#Japan Propulsion Systems|Japan Propulsion Systems]], that bring the possibility of a Space Elevator back to the forefront. Due to the source, the material is renamed to '[[P16]]', colloquially known as 'P-Carbon'. Multiple nations immediately start a race to use their stores of minerals to create Space Elevators, in order to expand on the ease of mining. Super Conductor research from [[Norway]]'s Thuner Electric is critical in establishing power flow to allow for Cab travel and Cable Sway Adjustment.

   2240 AD

   • 2245 AD, January 11 - A Second Expedition to [[Asteroid 16 Psyche]], launched in 2234, retrieves more metal for various competing nations. Though notably, there was an accident that occurred on 16 Psyche itself that causes the loss of a Brazilian rocket, causing increased tensions once again. An investigation by the Third Expedition is already underway by the time the second expedition is back.
   • 2246 AD, June 01 - [[New Congo Republic]] established.
   • 2247 AD, August 20 - [[Professor Rasmus]] warns of expanding further into space and to keep asteroid mining within the Solar System, speaking of having detected 'anomalies', and announces he intends to start research on these anomalies.
   • 2247 AD, August 21 - [[Professor Rasmus]] is found dead in his own apartment. His computers are found blanked, as if by a local EMP that only touched his apartment. All windows and doors are found locked. It's declared an accident by a project he was working on.

   • 2250 AD, January 1 - The first Space Elevator is stood up with aid from the [[Mekonara Coalition]], just in time for the Third Expedition from [[Asteroid 16 Psyche]] to land and proving the technology works. The accident of the Brazil portion is announced an engineering error.

With it being far enough from the Equator that it cannot immediately benefit from the Space Elevators being erected, it goes to war with South America while Brazil is constructing its Space Elevator. Other countries stay out of the conflict on an 'official' basis, refusing to invest their resources and risk their own projects.
   • 2263, July 1 - [[Gabon]] and the [[New Congo Republic]] complete their Space Elevator in cooperation with France, entering into a cooperative accord. Earth holds its breath as worries spread about the impact to the African Orbital Elevators.

   • 1 UE, June 5 - The earth springs into action to try and figure out what happened. Analyzing the waves of Electromagnetic Pulses so powerful, they reached all the way to earth. And while the surface was largely protected by the atmosphere, enough satellites in the region are down, causing issues with communications and navigation for several months.     In [[Jazaarid]], [[Professor Khalid]] quickly distinguished himself. His work on developing new spectroscopic techniques for analyzing extraterrestrial materials earned him the moniker "young genius." He published several influential papers on the potential of specific asteroids to provide rare earth elements essential for quantum computing, further cementing [[Jazaarid]]'s position as a leader in the field.

    As a member of the Science Foundation in [[Jazaarid]], [[Professor Khalid]] initially focused on projects related to improving the efficiency of resource extraction from near-Earth asteroids. He headed the EMJ (Extraterrestrial Mineralogy Jazaarid), where he oversaw research into the long-term effects of space mining on the solar system's ecosystem.     A material made using unique carbon structures found during a larger Mining Expedition to [[Asteroid 16 Psyche]]. In 2222 is largely refined by the [[Mekonara Coalition]]. It allowed for such technologies such as the Space Elevators.

    The Titular Phantom Engine, is a humanoid silhouette mechanized machine that has come at various sizes and iterations throughout the timeline of Rift Among The Stars. The first deployment was seen during [[Timeline Summary#2260 AD|The War of Americas]] - deployed by the South American Freedom Fighters - 'Fantasma' -- thus earning it its name. It served as a notable Force Multiplier that was able to stand up to Drones due to its rapid reaction speed, and being able to easily deploy and outmaneuver within the jungle environment.

    The Fantasma features a Mono-eye style sensor and was regularly deployed with a small contingent of support staff. This Phantom Engine runs on modified Fission RTGs, causing it to run hot and easy to locate on heat-sensors. The Fantasma group however used other high heat objects to obfuscate deployments of the Phantom Engine unit.

    Fantasma Palenque

    Also known as the Fantasma P, it is an engineering marvel created by [[Professor Lucía]]'s [[South American Alliance#Estrella Robotics|Estrella Robotics]]. It is a Phantom Engine with a stronger series of RTGs, and significantly larger than the lanky Fantasma MK 1. It is heavily plated and has heavy work engines, and a series of Ion Engines to make adjustments more easily in space, and various methods of launching chains and hooks to enable drilling. Six Fantasma P units are launched to [[Asteroid 16 Psyche]] in 2093 AD as the first Phantom Engine sent to space, a feat that would not have been possible without the existence of the Orbital Elevators.

    The Space Phantom was made with the intent of protecting the Space Elevators from harm by any other nation's forces. They were first deployed at the Brazil Space Elevator.
