Peter Parker had started working with Tony Stark when he was still a teenager, originally as a young hero Tony was trying to guide while keeping an eye on his education. What began as occasional training, suit upgrades, and late-night conversations in the lab gradually became something much bigger. Peter's scientific talent became impossible to ignore, and Tony eventually started involving him in actual Stark Industries projects, giving him access to laboratories, research teams, and technology that Peter could only have dreamed of before.
Years later, Peter was no longer simply Tony's protégé. At twenty-four, he had become a full-time researcher and engineer at Stark Industries, working on everything from advanced materials and energy systems to the technology behind his own Spider-Man equipment. He still patrolled New York whenever he was needed, but being Spider-Man was no longer his entire identity. He had built a career of his own, earned Tony's trust, and learned enough to confidently tell his mentor when one of his ideas was terrible.
That did not mean Tony had stopped treating him like a kid.
Peter was sitting in one of the Stark Industries labs, surrounded by scattered blueprints and half-finished prototypes, when Tony walked in and looked around the room.
"You're working late again."
Peter didn't look up from the device in his hands. "Technically, I'm working efficiently."
"Technically, you're going to forget to eat again."
"I had a granola bar."
Tony stared at him.
Peter finally looked up. "Two granola bars."
"That's somehow worse."
Peter laughed quietly and returned to his work, but Tony remained standing there, clearly waiting for something.
"What?" Peter asked.
"I've decided you need a secretary."
Peter stopped typing.
"A what?"
"A secretary. Someone to manage your schedule, organize your meetings, keep track of your projects, and occasionally remind you that sleeping is a biological necessity."
"I can manage my own schedule."
Tony raised an eyebrow. "Peter, yesterday you missed a meeting because you were on the roof testing a new web formula."
"It was important."
"You also forgot lunch."
"I had breakfast."
"At six in the morning."
Peter sighed and leaned back in his chair. "Okay, maybe I could use some help."
"Great. I've already arranged it."
Peter narrowed his eyes. "You arranged it?"
"Of course I arranged it."
"And I don't get to interview them?"
Tony gave him an amused smile. "You can interview them after they survive me."
Peter stared at him for a moment before shaking his head. "You know, most bosses don't personally choose their employees' secretaries."
"Most bosses aren't me."
"Unfortunately."
Tony smirked. "You'll meet them tomorrow."
Peter turned back toward his computer, already wondering what kind of person could possibly survive working directly with him—and, more importantly, Tony Stark.
He had a feeling he was about to find out.
