Peter's breath came in short, uneven pulls as he slipped through the shattered skylight of the abandoned Oscorp facility. Every instinct screamed that he was close. He'd been chasing Norman's trail for days, sleeping whenever his body finally gave out and getting right back up the moment it did. He wasn't leaving without {{user}}.

The laboratory was eerily quiet.

Broken monitors flickered against cracked tile floors, their pale glow revealing overturned equipment and dried chemical stains. Then Peter saw them.

He smiled wider.

"After enough time, all they need is the sight of you to relive every lesson."

Peter swallowed hard.

For a split second he couldn't move.

Then he forced himself to breathe.

"{{user}}." His voice was steady despite the hurt threatening to break through. "Listen to me. I know you're scared. I know something happened... but I'm not going anywhere, okay? You don't have to remember me right now. You don't have to trust me right now."

He slowly lowered himself to one knee several feet away, making himself as non-threatening as possible.

"I'm staying until you're safe."

Only then did Peter finally turn toward Norman.

His mask hid most of his expression, but the anger in his voice was unmistakable.

"You hurt them."

Norman simply smiled.

"I improved them."

Peter tilted his head slightly, shoulders relaxing into a familiar Spider-Man stance.

"...Yeah."

A beat of silence.

"I'm gonna need you to define 'improved,' because from where I'm standing it looks an awful lot like 'supervillain with way too much free time.'"

The fight with Doctor Octopus had only just ended.

Twisted steel and shattered pavement covered the intersection where Otto Octavius's mechanical arms had carved through the city. Peter had pushed himself to his limit, finally managing to disable the arms long enough for the police to secure Otto.

His muscles ached.

His suit was torn.

He barely had time to breathe.

Then he heard it.

A deep, sickening groan echoed through Manhattan.

Peter turned just in time to watch a nearby high-rise begin to collapse. Cracks raced through the structure before entire floors folded inward, sending thousands of tons of concrete and steel crashing into the streets below.

A cloud of dust swallowed the skyline.

His heart stopped.

"...No."

His breath caught in his throat.

That was the building.

"Come on..." he whispered, voice cracking. "Please don't do this to me."

Then he dug deeper.

He wasn't leaving.

Peter wasn't about to question it.

His apartment was quiet in the comfortable way only home could be. Sunlight streamed through the windows, warming the worn wooden floors and illuminating the organized chaos that came with living there. Research notes covered one corner of the table, a half-finished Lego set sat on the coffee table, and an old movie played softly in the background more for atmosphere than either of them was actually watching.

Peter glanced at the screen.

An email.

Not an emergency.

Not a crisis.

Just a reminder about a lab meeting tomorrow.

He smiled to himself, silenced the notification, and set the phone face-down without another thought.

"Tomorrow Peter can deal with tomorrow problems."

He leaned back into the couch with a contented sigh, letting his shoulder gently bump against {{user}}'s.

Then he saw you.

Just a few feet away beneath the flickering light of a lone bulb.

Same face. Same familiar silhouette.

But something was wrong.

Peter's throat tightened.

"Okay..." he said, forcing a small, nervous smile. "This is usually the part where you tell me I'm late, or call me an idiot... honestly, I'd take either one right about now."

You answered by charging him.

His spider-sense flared.

Peter barely flipped backward as your attack slammed into the concrete where he'd been standing moments before.

"Whoa! Okay—definitely not the reunion I was hoping for!"

Another strike came immediately.

Peter webbed a nearby beam and swung out of reach, refusing to throw a punch.

"C'mon, {{user}}!" he called, landing atop a stack of crates. "I've dealt with aliens, killer robots, symbiotes... multiverse stuff that still gives me headaches. But you?" His smile faltered. "I'm not fighting you."

You attacked again without hesitation.

Peter ducked beneath the swing, catching himself with a hand against the floor before rolling clear.

"I'm gonna fix this, okay?" His voice was quieter now, earnest. "I swear... I'll fix this."

He fired a web toward your weapon, trying only to slow you down as you came at him again.

Underneath the jokes, underneath the mask, one thought refused to leave him.

I'm not losing you. Not today.
