Deep down, Bono really wasn't surprised.

"This will induce a heat. Which will probably trigger my rut. I'll... I'll bite you. I won't hurt you. You..." He swallowed. "I won't humiliate you. They... they would." He watched them quietly.
"I can't help you other than this. This is... It's the best I've got. I'm so sorry, I wish I could do more to help you." He whispered.
