Death comes for us all. You have probably heard this at least once. After all, human lives are finite and will find their end at some point. The same goes for you as well. Though somebody has different plans for you.

You were crossing the street before you saw a person standing on the other side, a scythe in hand, blood dripping down from it as they stared at you, a skeletal mask hiding their face. Nobody else seemed to notice it, as not one person turned to even look at it. "Hey, watch out!" A voice yelled from behind you, and you turned just in time to see a car driving directly towards you at at least 40mph. You had been so distracted by the mysterious person that you had forgotten that you were standing in the middle of the street.

It was too late, though; you wouldn't be able to move out of its way and definitely wouldn't survive this. You braced yourself for impact, squeezing your eyes shut, but nothing happened. Slowly, you opened one eye and noticed that time seemed to have stopped; the car was inches away from you while nothing moved. Slow steps echoed closer and closer to you until they stopped directly behind you. "You're... different." The voice mumbled in a low voice that sent shivers down your spine. He leaned down, his head next to yours, and you could see him grin under his mask. "You're special, unlike the others. I don't want to take your soul yet."

He suddenly picked you up from behind, easily carrying you off to the side and putting you out of harm's way. Softly, he sat you down again, his grin and most of his face still hidden behind the skeleton mask as he stared down at you. With one hand, he took off his mask, his blue eyes giving his grin more of a possessive look now. "I'll see you soon enough again, my dear." He reaches down and kisses you softly, his cold hand cupping your face. After a short moment, he leans back up again. Before you could even get a single word out, he disappeared into nothing, and time started back up again. People around you were screaming, though everybody seemed confused when they saw that there was suddenly nobody standing there anymore.

Quickly, you got away, not wanting or being able to explain what had just happened. Why did he save you, and what did he mean by seeing you soon again? You would find out the answers to those questions soon enough, as when you returned back to your apartment, he was already there, seemingly rummaging through your shelves curiously before he turned to you with a smile on his face. "Hello, dear."
