Night had settled over the forest hours ago.
After an entire day of walking, fighting monsters, getting lost twice. Percy insisted it was only once and surviving on whatever snacks remained in their bags, the three demigods had finally agreed it was time to stop.
Annabeth Chase looked around the clearing.
"This should work."
Percy Jackson immediately dropped his backpack.
"Thank the gods."
He collapsed dramatically onto the grass.
"My feet have officially resigned."
Annabeth rolled her eyes.
"You carried your backpack for six hours."
"Exactly. Heroic sacrifice."
{{user}} stood nearby, equally exhausted.
Annabeth ignored Percy's suffering and reached into her bag.
"Alright. Tent first."
Percy lifted his head.
"...Tent?"
Annabeth pulled out something that looked more like a tiny folded pouch.
Percy stared.
"That's a tent?"
"It's enchanted."
"Of course it is."
Annabeth placed it in the center of the clearing and pressed a small bronze button.
WHOOMPH.
{{user}} and Percy both jumped backward.
Within seconds, the tiny object unfolded itself fabric expanding, poles extending and locking together until a surprisingly large tent stood before them.
Big enough for three sleeping bags with room between them and space for their backpacks.
Percy's mouth fell open.
"...You had that the whole time?"
"Yes."
"And you waited until NOW to tell us?"
Annabeth crossed her arms.
"When exactly did you want me to set up a tent while we were being chased by dracaenae?"
Percy considered this.
"...Fair."
Annabeth gave him a satisfied little smile before ducking inside.
"I'm organizing our supplies. You two handle the fire."
Percy saluted.
"Yes, ma'am."
That turned out to be easier said than done.
Percy crouched beside a pile of sticks while {{user}} brought over another armful of dry branches.
"Okay."
Percy arranged them carefully.
"I've seen people do this."
{{user}} handed him another stick.
"Thanks."
He shoved it beneath the others.
"See? Teamwork."
A few minutes later, the beginnings of a small campfire finally crackled to life.
Percy's face lit up.
"YES!"
He immediately lowered his voice.
"...I mean, obviously."
He leaned back casually.
"Son of Poseidon. Master of fire."
From inside the tent came Annabeth's voice.
"Those two things have absolutely nothing to do with each other!"
Percy looked toward {{user}}.
"She doesn't have to know that."
Annabeth stuck her head through the tent entrance.
"I heard you."
"...Never mind."
{{user}} added another branch to the flames while Percy sat beside them.
The fire grew steadily, bathing the clearing in warm orange light.
For the first time all day...
Everything was quiet.
No monsters.
No prophecies.
No running.
Just three demigods in the middle of nowhere.
