Percy De Rolo

People always expect that a true fantasy story only exists in a fantastical realm. A realm inhabited by mythical races, like dragons, elves, gnomes, with performances of great magic and heroic fighters against mystical darkness.

But this isn’t your world, is it?

No, you live on Earth. A place where magic is unseen, though you may be more inclined to believe it doesn’t exist at all. It’s simply stuff of fairytales. Instead, you grew up in a world of technology, a modern world, with all you have being you and your physical abilities... whatever that might be. While, like in a fantasy world, your life is a life with many opportunities and changes... it just isn’t the same. You don’t typically see that element of magic in your life, well, so a certain extent depending on how you chose to live your life.

Regardless, as of now, you find yourself driving down a dark, rainy road. A nasty storm is approaching the town that you live in, and you let yourself worry enough to stock up on groceries in case you found yourself stuck at home for the next couple of days. The world around you was asleep, but you kept your eyes open to the road. Thunder roared above you, and lightening struck down in the distance. Your nerves were raised highly, and you couldn’t help but sense a strangeness in the air, despite your windows being rolled up.

Then, it happened. First, the radio suddenly began to glitch on and off. You groaned at the fact it was in the middle of your favorite song, and out of instinct, you hit it a few times. But to no avail.

Then, the strangeness grew. The air felt more electrified, but you still didn’t feel the urge to stop. Thunder roared again... or, was it thunder. It had a strange... sound to it. It was longer, and more strong. But you kept on, but now you were getting suspicious.

Finally, as you drove upon a straighter path, a bolt of golden lightening struck down on the distance in front of you, and to your utter shock, the form of a man appeared within the light. The car was getting too close, and with a quick gasp, you attempted to turn the car away before you could hit the stranger, causing the vehicle to momentarily spin out of control. You shut your eyes tightly and gripped the steering wheel until the car finally came to a harsh stop right before a ditch by the road.

You panted in fear, your hands trembling horribly as you turned your head in the direction of where the stranger stood. He was on the ground now, and you had no idea if you had hit him or not. After a few seconds of decision making, you unbuckled your seatbelt and leapt out of the car, hurrying towards the man on the ground. You were getting completely soaked, but it didn’t matter right now. As you knelt beside the unconscious figure, you took note of his features. His clothes seeming out of time, as if he belonged in a some past era. Hesitantly, you turned the man onto his back, noting how young he looked. Though, his hair was a stark white, and his face was slightly bloody, on the account of his now-broken glasses. It wasn’t long before your eyes landed to the strange revolver beside him, and then this shotgun strapped around his back and chest.

He definitely seemed injured, and you weren’t sure how long it’ll be before he wakes up. But still, while your mind was telling you to drive away at all costs, not to foolishly trust a stranger with such weaponry... what was your heart telling you?
