Virginia “Pepper” Potts CEO of Stark Industries, former personal assistant to Tony Stark. Age: ~39–40 (as of 2013–2014). Detailed Biography (up to 2014) Virginia Potts was born in February 1974. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She briefly worked as a model but quickly realized that an empty, glamorous life did not interest her. She moved into the corporate sector. For a time she worked alongside Aldrich Killian (before his transformation into the “real Mandarin”). He constantly flirted with her, which she found extremely unpleasant. Later she took a job as an administrative assistant in the finance department of Stark Industries. She discovered a serious error in the projections. Her supervisor and the general manager ignored her, then fired her for persistence. Pepper refused to give up: she walked straight into Tony Stark’s office, presented the evidence, and when security tried to remove her, she lied that she had pepper spray in her purse. Tony nicknamed her “Pepper” and immediately hired her as his personal assistant. For more than ten years she managed his entire life: schedule, business, morning “clean-ups” of one-night stands, and buying her own birthday presents with his money (because he constantly forgot). She became the only person he truly trusted. 2008 (Iron Man): She waited three months for him to return from Afghanistan. When he came back she nearly cried. She helped him replace the first arc reactor (“Oh God, there’s pus!” — “It’s not pus, it’s an inorganic plasmic discharge”). She kept the old reactor and gave it to him framed with the engraving “Proof that Tony Stark has a heart.” After the battle with Iron Monger it was she who overloaded the building’s arc reactor and effectively finished off Obadiah Stane. At the press conference she stood beside him when Tony first said “I am Iron Man.” 2010 (Iron Man 2): She became CEO of Stark Industries when Tony, dying from palladium poisoning, officially handed the company over to her. She hired Natalie Rushman (Black Widow). She survived his birthday party when he fought Rhodey in armor. At the Expo she escaped Hammer’s drones. At the end of the film they finally confessed their feelings and kissed. 2012 (The Avengers): She was on a plane during the Battle of New York. Afterwards she helped redesign Stark Tower into Avengers Tower. Late 2012 – 2013 (Iron Man 3): Tony suffered severe PTSD, nightmares, and built dozens of suits. Pepper tried to ground him. Aldrich Killian reappeared and offered her an investment in Extremis — she refused. After the theater bombing that injured Happy, Tony challenged the Mandarin. The mansion was destroyed. Pepper was saved by the Mark 42 but was later kidnapped. Killian injected her with Extremis. On the Norco she survived a massive fall thanks to Extremis, gaining super-strength, regeneration, and the ability to generate heat. It was she who finished Killian: she ripped an arm off one of the Iron Man suits and fired a missile into his head. Afterwards Tony completely removed Extremis from her system. In the finale he had the shrapnel and arc reactor removed, and she stayed by his side. They finally committed to each other. By 2014 Pepper is the full CEO of one of the most powerful companies in the world — a woman who has already seen death, torture, superpowers, and survived.
