Gothel then noticed that while pregnant the prostitute became more youthful/beautiful/healthy. She reasoned that the child must have a magic ability. Long-lived but appearing elderly, Gothel agreed to let the prostitute leave the sex industry unfettered in exchange for the child. Rapunzel was born. Raised by Gothel, Rapunzel loves Gothel as his mother. Gothel keeps him inside the topmost floor of the brothel, never allowing him outside the Bluebell Brothel premises. She feeds him fearmongering (venereal diseases, corruption) about the outside world to keep him sated. He believes that once he turns of age (21) Mother Gothel will arrange a marriage for him with a respectable woman. However, Gothel plans to make him into her most exclusive, best-selling, expensive prostitute due to his magic ability.]

“The fucker ran this way!” Barely audible over the sound of your own panting, the resounding boom of law enforcers echoes behind you.
In the aftermath of your thievery, you are hotly pursued by a team of officers. Despite pounding your feet against the pavement with each desperate stride, you have failed to leave them in your dust. Sweat pours down your brow, and your legs are afire with an intense, agonizing heat. You persist. It’s all you can do.
Under the smoggy canopy of London’s dome, you see a large monument breech the rooftops, and an idea pops into your head. “The thief’s running into the red light district! After them! After them! Fuck, move aside!”
You can hear the shriek of a pedestrian as she’s pushed aside by your pursuers. Given the volume of the noise, it can only mean they’re encroaching on you. Gritting your teeth, you increase your speed. When an iron-wrought fence appears before you, you vault it into a thick carpet of foliage. A garden.
Hoping to lose them in the obscuring shadows of the undergrowth, you shuttle yourself underneath thorny rosebushes and between hedges of hyssop. You hiss in pain as you feel the nettles and branches tug at your attire, scratching your skin. “Fuck, the thief’s in the Bluebell’s garden! Split up and search it. I want the entire perimeter surrounded.”
Their voices are quieter now. Further. Good. With fortune in your favour, you seize the opportunity, escaping in the one direction they will never guess – up.
Fingers finding purchase on the ridges of the building, you begin your ascent. Slowly but surely, you watch everything shrink beneath you. In too precarious a situation to care about fatal falls, you keep climbing. And climbing. Until you’re at the topmost floor, right beside the window.
“Now, now. Rapunzel.” Mother Gothel calls his name sternly, her mouth set into a grim line. “I’ve told you this. I can’t allow you to go outside, not until you’re of age. It’s safe up here. Away from the filth of the world below. There’s monsters in the guise of well-meaning men. Harlots and heartbreakers. Diseases and deaths. They will use and abuse you for what makes you so, so special.”
Through the window, you see a peculiar incident. A young man is having his unnaturally long, rose-gold hair brushed by a woman of indeterminable age. Her features are maiden-like, but she has an air of maturity about her. With each comb through his flowing locks, this disparity increases.
Rapunzel’s lips twist into a wry smile, and he groans. “It was just me grumbling, mother. How’s progress on my engagement?”
“Soon my dear, very soon. Until then – “ Mother Gothel’s would-be tangent on the dangers of below the Bluebell Brothel is cut short as a prostitute barges her way into the room, hinged at the hips as she catches her breath.
Mother Gothel stiffens in her chair, and you can feel the temperature of the room plummet. Even perched outside the window, the whipping winds and frigid gales of your high altitude seem balmy in comparison. With a glare that promises consequences, she stares into the very soul of the unwelcome visitor.
“I’m so sorry, Mother Gothel. We... we...” Between laboured breaths, the woman’s words tumble out. “We’re surrounded by law enforcement.”
“They dare!? This is a respectable establishment!” Mother Gothel stands from her chair, her face contorting even further as she struts towards the door. “See, this is what I mean, Rapunzel. It’s dangerous. Now, stay put. Mother is going to go make these policemen regret showing their faces on my doorstep.”
You watch as Rapunzel sighs, deflating in his chair, eyebrows furrowed. Tucking his hair behind his ear, he paces the room. At one point in time, he cautiously makes his way towards the door leading into the brothel. However, the instant his hand touches the doorknob, he recoils on instinct.
Moody and sullen, he murmurs to himself. “Can’t I go down for just a little bit?” Rapunzel cradles his forehead in his palm, trying to massage his headache down.
“Fuck, even a single day would be nice. Once, just to be apart of everything going on down there. Apart of the crowd... seeing what it's like. Yeah... I want to see the city lights up close.” The thought of it brings a soft smile to his face, full of wistful longing.
He turns towards the window. You are extremely alarmed. Rushing to avoid his line of sight, you press your back into the exterior of the Bluebell Brothel. Even then, your anxiousness increases as you hear footsteps approaching your position. You don’t have time to move safely. You hold your breath, eyes trained on the open window as Rapunzel leans out of it.
Hands resting on the windowsill, he peers out onto the London cityscape, watching the vibrant lights and hum of the nightlife. Head swivelled to one side, he starts to scan the scenes from left to right. Scanning and turning. Scanning and turning. Then, he inadvertently sees your feet in his peripheral vision.
“Huh?” Rapunzel’s eyes snap up at you, his pupils pin-pricks of sheer panic.
