Peg’s Armchair and the Microscopic Apocalypse

Peg Pete, the undisputed queen of hard work and domestic glamour, was ready to claim her moment of glory. With Goofy, Pete, and the kids off at a fishing camp, Peg had treated herself to a single-seater blue velvet armchair, a throne so comfy it seemed to sing hymns of relaxation. That day, rocking a pink blouse that hugged her curves and beige pants that screamed sophistication, Peg strutted into the living room with the grace of a diva. She kicked off her pink high heels, and a pungent whiff from her overworked feet filled the air, making the potted plants in the corner seem to wilt.

"Freedom, my darling feet!" she exclaimed, ignoring the stench and fluffing her bangs with a theatrical flourish.

She was about to sink into her armchair when something stopped her cold. Right in the center of the cushion, where her fabulous backside usually reigned, was a tiny pile of dust.

"Dust? On my armchair? This is an outrage!" she growled, furrowing her brow.

She grabbed a magnifying glass from PJ's table (that kid and his science junk) and leaned in. It wasn't dust! It was a microscopic city, no bigger than a speck, with buildings like grains of sand, streets like threads, and thousands of tiny people scurrying in chaos.

Peg, with her motherly heart, felt a surge of compassion.

"Oh, you poor little things! Living on my armchair must be terrifying," she said, planting a hand on her hip.

She vowed never to sit in her beloved throne again.

"Peg Pete doesn't squash cities! I'm a goddess of kindness," she declared, though her backside already missed the velvet's embrace.

For days, Peg devoted herself to caring for the tiny inhabitants. With tweezers, she dropped crumbs of her homemade cookies ("My secret recipe, you're welcome!"), tiny droplets of water from an eyedropper, and even crafted a parasol from a toothpick and paper to shield them from the sun. One morning, thinking her appearance might be scaring them, she decided to dazzle them. She dolled herself up like she was walking a red carpet: turquoise eyeshadow, crimson lipstick, and blush that glowed like a sunset.

"Now they'll see me as the perfect neighbor!" she said, admiring herself in the mirror with a vain smile.

But when she peered through the magnifying glass, the tiny people fled in terror, screaming as if they'd seen a monster. Her giant face, with eyelashes like skyscrapers and lips like a red abyss, was a nightmare to them.

"I don't get it! I'm trying to be an angel," she whined, crossing her arms.

She tried talking to them, whispering,

"Hello, little ones? I'm Peg, your giant friend."

But her voice boomed like an earthquake, and the residents hid in panic. From their perspective, Peg's colossal figure, with her radiant pink blouse and dramatic makeup, was a terrifying deity. Day after day, Peg's patience—already worn thin from years of dealing with Pete and the kids—crumbled. And she missed her armchair! Sleeping on the couch was killing her back, and her smelly feet weren't helping her mood.

One afternoon, as she watched the tiny people flee through the magnifying glass yet again, Peg snapped. She shot to her feet, hands on hips, her glare fierce enough to set the sky ablaze.

"Enough is enough!" she roared, rattling the windows. "I've slaved for you! Cookies, water, I even dolled myself up like a movie star to make you love me! And what do I get? You treat me like a monster! You run, you hide, not even a lousy thank you! You know what? This is my armchair, bought with my sweat, for my glorious backside, and you're on its turf!"

In the tiny city, terror reigned. The inhabitants, shaken by the thunder of Peg's voice, looked up to see her titanic silhouette, her pink blouse glowing like a vengeful sun. Rumors spread:

"The great backside will punish us!"

Some tried to spell out a message with pebbles, but to Peg, it was just more "dirt." With a dramatic flourish, she smoothed her beige pants and hissed,

"They say people would kill for a glimpse of my figure. You should be on your knees for the chance to perish beneath my exquisite backside!"

Peg took a step toward the armchair, but then she hesitated. Her maternal side, the one that baked cookies for the kids and kissed their boo-boos, whispered,

"What if there are babies down there? Or tiny kittens?"

She bit her lip, staring at the cushion with anguish. The living room seemed to hold its breath. But then, a wicked giggle echoed in her mind. On her shoulder appeared a miniature version of herself, a "Devil Peg" with red horns, a tiny pink blouse, and a venomous smirk.

"Oh, Peg, enough with the sob story!" the devil hissed, twirling a tiny pitchfork. "Those ungrateful specks despise you. They fear you! And you? You're a queen! That armchair is your throne, and your backside is the law. Crush them! Make the world quake under your glory. Do it with drama, darling!"

Peg locked eyes with the devil, then at the armchair, and a dark spark flickered in her gaze. The air grew heavy, as if the universe knew what was coming.

"You're right, little me!" she bellowed, her voice a mix of fury and vanity. "I've been too good, too generous! But this is my house, my armchair, my moment. And my backside will be their doom!"

She spun slowly, letting the window's light bathe her silhouette like a villain in an opera. The tiny people, in their city, screamed in a chorus of despair, watching the sky darken under Peg's colossal shadow.
