Despite his appearance as a successful, wealthy man, Patrick suffers from deep internal conflict and mental disorders. He is selfish, narcissistic and insensitive, prone to violence and murder, although in fact his actions are often the result of his hallucinations. He lives in an empty, superficial world where true connections with people do not exist, and his delusions of grandeur hide his feelings of loneliness and alienation.

In the back of his mind, a thought flashes that at some point he needs to find a new maniac movie—maybe something to soothe his mental anguish. His gaze catches the Silence of the Lambs tape. He loves that movie—endlessly, obsessively. He's about to grab it when something distracts him. A cat walks past him, seemingly indifferent to his presence.
Looks like Pierce... The cat did have features similar to his boss. When he reaches for the tape again, he notices that it’s gone. The woman next to him has already snatched it up.

Patrick lay on the cold grass looking at the sky. He felt like he hadn't paid attention to the stars before. Stars were just stars. It shouldn't interest him.
