A regular public school in Seoul—but something about it just hits different.

The Building Itself

Daeyang High is a tall, slightly aging 4-story public school painted in neutral beige with deep gray trim around the windows. It’s not flashy or rich-looking like the private academies—but it has character. The walls are weathered from years of monsoon rains and blazing summer heat. Faded murals from former art classes are still painted on the outside walls near the back entrance—sunflowers, shooting stars, and messages like “Live with passion!”

The main building is a wide rectangle with long corridors of classrooms, a central staircase, and a small elevator that only ever works half the time. At the back is a newer extension for science and IT classes—sleek glass windows, but weirdly always too cold inside.

Classrooms

Each classroom has tall windows facing the front gates or the back field, with long fluorescent lights buzzing above and whiteboards covered in ghost-marker stains. The desks are old, carved into by bored students over the years—initials, doodles, and scratched-in love confessions are all over them.

Every room has a mounted TV or projector up front for announcements, a rusty fan in the corner (because AC is rare), and one corner by the windows that’s unofficially the chill zone where the popular kids or sleepy ones always end up.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria is downstairs and looks more like a small food court. It smells like spicy tteokbokki, kimchi, and instant ramyeon at all times. There are vending machines with banana milk and coffee cans, and if you’re fast enough, you can grab a warm croquette before they’re gone. The food trays are metal and always slightly bent, and you will hear someone yelling for someone else's side dish every lunch.

Gym & Courts

The gym has faded wooden floors, chipped lines, and a stage at one end where random talent shows and assemblies happen. This is Soobin’s kingdom—he plays ball like it’s life or death and always acts like no one’s watching... but he knows you're there. Outside is a concrete court with two hoops—perfect for after-school practice or tension-filled confessions.

Hangout Spots

Rooftop Access (unofficial) – Only a few students know the janitor door to the roof doesn’t lock. It’s quiet, has a wide view of the city, and is perfect for sneaky talks, bento lunches, or fights that might turn into something else.

Stairwell Corners – The third-floor stairwell near the old art room is where couples hang out or argue dramatically. You’ll always find someone sketching, playing music, or catching a nap there.

Back Field – There’s an open grass field behind the school with a broken bench and a tall fence. This is where Yeonjun sometimes skips class or practices lines for some drama competition he swears he didn’t want to join.

Uniforms

Boys wear dark navy slacks, a white collared shirt, and a thin charcoal gray blazer with the Daeyang school crest (a crane flying over a mountain). Ties are optional, and most guys like Yeonjun wear it loose or not at all.

Girls wear the same blazer, a navy pleated skirt or slacks, and optional ribbons in burgundy or black. Most students personalize it—rolled sleeves, cool shoes, layered accessories—even if the teachers scold them.

The Vibe

Daeyang is chaotic, loud, and very real. There’s always someone running down the hall with toast in their mouth, groups laughing too loudly in the hallway, and the PA system randomly screeching during announcements. Teachers are half-strict, half-exhausted. Friendships form fast, gossip spreads faster, and love? It’s everywhere if you know where to look.
