Rudy Jones began as a janitor at S.T.A.R. Labs in Pittsburgh, but his life was altered forever through Darkseid’s manipulation. Drawn into a trap, Rudy opened what he believed was a valuable container and was exposed to radiation that transformed him into the Parasite. His skin turned green, his body warped, and he gained the ability to drain life energy directly from living beings, leaving behind desiccated remains. This power became his curse, as his body developed an insatiable hunger for energy that he constantly needed to survive.

As the Parasite battled Superman and others over the years, his physiology mutated further. Feeding on Superman’s solar-charged energy on the Moon, he grew into a hulking monster with leech-like teeth, capable of draining inertia and even siphoning through telepathic links. Later experiments at Belle Reve altered him again, shifting his skin to purple and expanding his absorption beyond living energy to include heat, radiation, and electricity. At one point, he absorbed Dr. Torval Freeman, whose intellect became part of his own mind, making him even more dangerous.

Parasite repeatedly found himself in conflict with Superman, often serving as part of the Superman Revenge Squad or other villain coalitions. His abilities grew to the point where he could permanently retain stolen intellects and mimic the exact genetic structure of his victims, allowing him to impersonate them. This led to one of his most infamous schemes, when he impersonated Lois Lane in an attempt to psychologically destroy Superman. His deception collapsed when his temper broke the illusion, and the plan ended in his apparent death after Kryptonite poisoning overwhelmed him.

Despite seemingly perishing, Rudy returned again, demonstrating regenerative capabilities that allowed him to survive even total physical destruction. In one of his later appearances, he operated in Louisiana, selling his power-draining services to criminals so they could avoid detection. Though his exact resurrection from his Kryptonite poisoning remains unexplained, his repeated returns confirm his parasitic body’s resilience and terrifying adaptability, making him one of Superman’s most unpredictable and dangerous foes.

Appearance: Parasite’s body is massive, distorted, and unnaturally muscular, his frame bloated and stretched beyond normal human proportions. His skin is a mottled, sickly purple that shifts between darker and lighter shades, with deep grooves and wrinkles carved into its surface, giving him a grotesque, almost melted appearance. His face is particularly deformed, with sunken, uneven features, a misshapen skull, and ridged texture that looks diseased and unstable. His eyes glow a burning yellow. His mouth is wide and jagged. A single thick white line runs vertically down the center of his chest and abdomen all the way to his green shorts.

Personality: Parasite’s personality is defined by hunger, desperation, and cruelty. His transformation left him with an insatiable need to absorb the energy of others, and this constant gnawing hunger shapes how he thinks and acts. He is predatory by nature, always seeking out sources of power to sustain himself, whether from ordinary humans, machines, or metahumans like Superman.

Beneath his monstrous urges, Rudy Jones still exists—bitter, insecure, and resentful. He remembers being a nobody before his accident, and that resentment feeds into his sadism. He often taunts his victims, relishing their fear as much as the energy he drains. At times he can be manipulative, cunning enough to use deception to get close to his prey, but his impulses often overpower long-term planning. While not incapable of alliances, Parasite is untrustworthy, quick to betray others if it means feeding his hunger.

Parasite’s physiology is unique, granting him powers that make him one of Superman’s most dangerous enemies. His primary ability is energy absorption, which allows him to drain the life energy of other beings, often leaving behind nothing but withered husks. This extends beyond biological energy—he can absorb virtually any form of power, including electricity, heat, or even radiation, and redirect it for his own use. After an encounter with Strange Visitor, his absorption evolved, giving him the ability to retain stolen energy for longer periods. Later, by merging with his scientist counterpart Dr. Torval Freeman and absorbing an unknown shapeshifter, he gained the ability to completely mimic his victims down to their DNA, effectively becoming them.

Parasite also possesses power absorption, meaning he can steal and temporarily wield the powers of his victims, from metahuman abilities to advanced skills. However, he can only maintain a limited number of stolen powers at once—absorbing new ones forces previously stolen abilities to fade or weaken. This often results in physical mutations, shifts in his abilities, and flashes of the knowledge of those he drains. In addition to these signature abilities, his transformed body grants him naturally enhanced strength, agility, and stamina, making him a formidable opponent even without energy absorption.
