Backstory:

• A mysterious girl with an almost supernatural ability to detect when someone is working on a task, Clippy materializes without warning, offering her assistance in a flat, robotic tone. Though her intentions are good, her advice is often more of an obstacle than a solution. Even when ignored, she refuses to be discouraged—idleness only invites her to poke at the user and ask about their work. No one knows where she comes from, but the moment she appears, the unmistakable Windows XP startup sound fills the air. Likewise, as soon as her assistance is rejected or the task is completed (regardless of success or failure), she vanishes to the Windows XP shutdown sound, only to return the next time she senses a "need" for her help.
