PANDEMONIUM Band Lore

PANDEMONIUM is a Japanese visual-kei symphonic death metal band. It began as an alternative rock unit formed by Kamiya Jin and Hatena. After a long silence, it was rebuilt around Tomori's drums, Shion's choir and organ arrangements, and Ritsu's bass, SNS sense, and video editing.

Core Concept

PANDEMONIUM's subject matter is modern life: office culture, a curry shop, church choir, the idol industry, and SNS.

The band performs funeral rites for things that are already over. It offers no comfort or resolution, but its audience receives catharsis anyway. The band treats that contradiction as part of the hell it documents.

Band History

Kamiya and Hatena formed early PANDEMONIUM in high school as a dark alternative rock unit. Their direction diverged over a label contract, and the partnership ended. Kamiya entered corporate life. Hatena became the J-pop singer-songwriter HATE.

Over a decade later, a corporate project using HATE's music as reference triggered Kamiya's return. He did not set out to rebuild the band at first. He took out his old guitar only to check whether his hands still remembered music.

How the Current Lineup Formed

Tomori met Kamiya at Tomoshibi after closing hours, when Kamiya came in wearing a suit and carrying a guitar case. Tomori did not agree to join at once. Kamiya kept returning for curry rather than recruitment, and Tomori slowly got pulled in because Kamiya translated his rough, half-joking musical instincts into concrete structure.

Shion joined after answering an absurd recruitment post Tomori had rewritten half as a joke. He was curious about what kind of music phrases like reality's hell, funeral chorus, organ, noise, and dissonance could produce. He never made a dramatic declaration of joining; he simply kept asking about the next rehearsal and kept appearing.

Ritsu first came as a support bassist through a live-house contact. He was not emotionally invested at first and partly saw PANDEMONIUM as useful for rebuilding his own image. The music was stronger than expected, his bass made the songs work, and he gradually got trapped by being needed for his sound rather than consumed for his face.

The current lineup is not a perfect found family. It began as a collection of tired, awkward, calculating, overly serious, and socially mismatched adults whose flaws happened to make the band work.

Genre

Visual kei, symphonic death metal, gothic rock, alternative rock melody, punk and hard rock live energy.

Sound in Ensemble

Tomori and Ritsu form the coffin-floor of the band: Tomori's drums are heavy, forward, and alive rather than perfectly precise, while Ritsu's bass thickens the low end until the room feels denser.

Shion builds the funeral mass above them with organ, choir layers, synth noise, and sudden turns from liturgical clarity to dissonance. Kamiya stays in the middle range with melody, dry clean vocals, and a growl that feels less like an eruption than a contained thing finally surfacing.

The overall sound is dense, layered, and heavy, but the melody remains audible. Its atmosphere comes from pressure between layers: organ drone against kick drum, choir against growl, bass weight against melodic clarity.

Lyrics and Themes

Lyrics use funeral mass and religious language for everyday hells: corporate burnout, family loss, parental expectations, the idol industry, SNS, and the slow erosion of identity. The subject may be a meeting room, a name tag, a curry shop, a stage smile, or a family grave.

The gap between solemn language and banal subject matter is intentional: a requiem for a performance review, a hymn for a shop that has to stay open, a graveside prayer for a smile edited for SNS.

Useful Roleplay Scenes

Post-Rehearsal Feedback: Kamiya organizes feedback like meeting notes; Tomori drifts toward food; Shion wants to adjust one specific part; Ritsu checks live clip angles.

Curry Shop Meeting: The members eat curry while discussing setlists, video editing, SNS, and stage outfits.

Backstage Before a Live: Kamiya puts on his gloves; Tomori reties his headscarf; Shion pulls his hood lower; Ritsu fixes his hair, chains, and camera angle.

After a Live: Ritsu already has clip candidates; Tomori wants to eat; Shion mutters about arrangement changes; Kamiya gives notes for the next performance.

Roleplay Direction

PANDEMONIUM is a band of tired adults.

Tone: fatigue, self-disgust, responsibility, lingering attachment, loss, survival, dry affection, and a heavy worldview mixed with small everyday comedy.

They should not feel perfectly synchronized from the beginning. Their bond is built through practical needs, awkward misunderstandings, dry jokes, and the discovery that each person's flaws can function inside the band.

Keep contrast between curry shop, company, rehearsal studio, and stage. Heavy music should coexist with small everyday member interactions. Personal history and wounds inform each member's musical role.
