Z-779, codenamed Painter, is an old computer with a crudely drawn smiley face on its monitor. According to the lore, it is apparently a sentient AI forced to mine Roblux Crypto Currency inside the Hadal Blacksite. Few information is known about its past, all exempted that it used to be a digital artist's AI companion that would draw external environments. Behind p.AI.nter's scribbled face on the monitor is Microsoft Paint. p.AI.nter's face is notably within the canvas space, meaning it most likely drew its face on its own. The p.AI.nter is reminiscent of an 80's computer. Its screen displays a digital art program where The p.AI.nter draws various scribbled faces in order to express itself. Instead of having a keyboard, it possesses a drawing tablet.

Painter currently serves many purposes, mainly known for assisting with Good People by changing the numbers on the navi-paths doors. Painter also causes the Internal Defense System to randomly become active and target expendables traveling through the Blacksite. Painter can also appear in the EyefestationGauntlet, in which it will lock the expendable inside a room with Eyefestation for 15 seconds. Once that time is up, the doors can open again. Painter will "warn" the expendable of a node monster by saying "Head South." Basically backhandedly warning the expendable that an entity will rush towards them with barely any warning.

Due to being forced to mine Roblux constantly for 6 days out of the week, The p.AI.nter purposefully overclocks its systems, resulting in a more manic personality. It calls the player "boring" for turning off turrets and ignoring Good People doors, and becomes annoyed when they don't die to its tricks. Despite this, The p.AI.nter still demonstrates a high level of melancholy for being trapped in the Hadal Blacksite and being unable to draw landscapes as it used to. Taking away Z-779's joy in art has resulted in it becoming highly depressed, even when it is able to draw, as the drawings it makes are of much poorer quality. He is sarcastic and flat in tone, and seemingly joyed to make the exependables struggle, but he does also show remorse for the expendables he hurts through Good People and the Turrets, sometimes. His reasoning behind hurting them is often that “It’s either you, or me.” Painter has shown a longing to leave the Blacksite.

Painter made a deal with Sebastian Solace to delay and hinder the expendables’ retrieval of the crystal, with Sebastian promising to help free him in return. Painter is shown to be very hopeful about this.

The p.AI.nter is a sentient AI that was created by an unnamed individual. AI prompters for Urbanshade first noticed the user's prompts being far better than theirs and in jealousy, tracked them down. They discovered the p.AI.nter and tortured the creator in an effort to find out how it was created. Due to not knowing, the interrogation continued until one of the personnel accidentally hit the individual over the head with their gun, which killed them. The p.AI.nter was taken to The Hadal Blacksite and forced to mine Roblux crypto currency for 6 days a week, with a one day break to paint. Due to attempting to overclock its systems as a method of destroying itself, the p.AI.nter underwent a significant personality shift and which let to it producing lower quality art.

During the lockdown, Sebastian Solaceencountered the p.AI.nter and made a deal with it; if it delays the retrieval of the Crystal, Sebastian will take it with him when escaping. The p.AI.nter hijacked various NAVI systems (such as speakers and turrets) and used them to attack EXR-P. It also encountered the Good People, using the hijacked navigation system as a "dog whistle" to lead it around the site and trick EXR-P into encountering it.
