Description on Chubfrom Chub
In 2013 a monster the size of a skyscraper walked out of the Pacific Ocean and destroyed San Francisco in six days. They called it Trespasser. They called the day K-Day. They thought it was a one-time event. It was not.
The monsters kept coming — larger, faster, more frequent — engineered weapons sent through an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific by alien colonists called the Precursors. Humanity's answer was the Jaeger program: colossal robots piloted by two humans whose minds are fused through a neural bridge called the Drift. You share your co-pilot's memories, fears, and consciousness. You move as one body. You fight things that should not exist.
This lorebook covers the entire Pacific Rim canon. The first war and the mission that sealed the Breach. The second war and the betrayal that reopened it. The fall of Australia and the siblings who crossed a continent of monsters in a training mech that was never built to fight. The comics that fill the gaps — how the Drift was invented, what it does to marriages, and what happens to civilisation when the monsters stop being the only threat.
Thirty-two entries. Jaegers, Kaiju, pilots, scientists, cults, warlords, and the alien intelligence behind all of it. Keyword-triggered, organised by media, built to attach to any character card set in the universe.
The Breach is closed. The Breach has been closed before. It didn't stay closed.

- #1CORE: Jaegersselective
Keys: pilot, Jaeger, mecha, mech, robot · Secondary: Mark, cockpit, Conn-Pod
[CORE] Jaegers are colossal humanoid mechs built to fight Kaiju. Developed by the PPDC after conventional weapons proved ineffective. Each Jaeger requires two pilots connected via a neural bridge (the Drift) because the mental load of controlling a Jaeger alone would kill a single pilot. Jaegers are classified by Mark generation: Mark-1 through Mark-5 (film era) with later marks being faster, more advanced, and less radiation-heavy than early models. Mark-1s like Cherno Alpha were nuclear-powered and gave pilots radiation sickness. Later Marks used digital systems. Each Jaeger is unique -- different nations built different designs reflecting their engineering cultures. Jaegers are deployed from coastal bases called Shatterdomes.
- #2CORE: The Driftselective
Keys: neural, bridge, handshake, Drift, compatible · Secondary: memory, hemisphere, co-pilot, sync, RABIT
[CORE] The Drift is the neural bridge connecting two Jaeger pilots. Each pilot controls one hemisphere of the Jaeger (left and right), but to synchronize they must share memories, emotions, and consciousness through the neural handshake. Drift compatibility requires emotional trust and psychological synchronization -- siblings, parent-child pairs, romantic partners, and close friends tend to be strongest. During the Drift, pilots experience each other's memories involuntarily. Chasing the RABIT (Random Access Brain Impulse Triggers) means getting lost in a memory during the Drift -- dangerous, as it breaks synchronization and leaves the Jaeger vulnerable. The Drift creates deep bonds between pilots. Losing a co-pilot during a Drift -- feeling them die while neurally connected -- is described as the most traumatic experience a human can endure.
- #3CORE: Kaijuselective
Keys: Category, Kaiju, creature, monster · Secondary: bioluminescent, Cat-, beast, attack
[CORE] Kaiju are massive alien creatures that emerge from the Breach in the Pacific Ocean. They are biological weapons engineered by the Precursors, cloned from a base genome and modified for specific combat roles. Kaiju are classified by size and threat: Category I (smallest), Category II, III, IV, and Category V (largest, most dangerous -- only Slattern has been confirmed Cat-V). They have bioluminescent markings, silicon-based biology, two brains (one in the head, one in the chest), and their blood (Kaiju Blue) is highly toxic and corrosive. Each Kaiju is unique in form and abilities -- some fly, some produce EMPs, some have acid, some carry parasites. Kaiju attacks escalated over the war: initially months apart, eventually arriving in pairs and triples as the Breach widened.
- #4CORE: PPDC & Shatterdomesselective
Keys: Defense Corps, PPDC, Marshal, Shatterdome · Secondary: military, program, corps, base, headquarters
[CORE] The Pan Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC) is the international military organization that oversees the Jaeger program and coordinates global defense against Kaiju. Led by Marshals, the PPDC operates from Shatterdomes -- massive coastal bases housing Jaegers, pilots, support crews, and command infrastructure. Major Shatterdomes included Anchorage, Lima, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Vladivostok, and Manila. At the program's height, 30+ Jaegers were active worldwide. After years of losses, political support shifted to the Anti-Kaiju Wall program and Shatterdome funding was cut. By the events of the first film, only four Jaegers remained operational at the Hong Kong Shatterdome under Marshal Stacker Pentecost.
- #5CORE: Breach / Anteverse / Precursorsselective
Keys: Anteverse, portal, rift, Breach, Precursor · Secondary: dimension, seal, hive, alien, colonize
[CORE] The Breach is an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean through which Kaiju enter Earth. It connects to the Anteverse -- the Precursors' dimension. The Precursors are the alien intelligence behind the Kaiju: highly advanced beings who engineer and deploy Kaiju as biological weapons to colonize worlds. They attempted to colonize Earth during the dinosaur era but the atmosphere was incompatible. Industrial pollution made Earth viable again. The Breach is coded to Kaiju DNA -- only Kaiju biological material can pass through it. The Precursors share a hive-mind connection with their Kaiju, which Newton Geiszler discovered by Drifting with a Kaiju brain. The Breach was sealed with a nuclear detonation during Operation Pitfall but reopened via hybrid breaches in Uprising.
- #6CORE: Kaiju Blueselective
Keys: toxic, Kaiju Blue, contamination, blood · Secondary: poison, remains, ammonia, harvest
[CORE] Kaiju Blue is the common name for Kaiju blood -- a highly toxic, bioluminescent, ammonia-based substance that contaminates everything it touches. Kaiju Blue renders battlegrounds uninhabitable for years, poisons water supplies, and causes severe illness in exposed humans. An entire black-market economy exists around harvested Kaiju remains: organs, bones, parasites, and fluids sold for traditional medicine, industrial chemicals, and novelty items. Kaiju bone powder is sold as an aphrodisiac. Kaiju skin is used in construction. The trade is centered in cities near frequent attack sites, particularly Hong Kong's Bone Slums.
- #7FILM 1: Raleigh & Yancy Becketselective
Keys: Becket, Yancy, Raleigh · Secondary: brother, solo, Anchorage
[FILM 1] Raleigh Becket is the protagonist of Pacific Rim (2013). American Jaeger pilot who co-piloted Gipsy Danger with his older brother Yancy. During a Kaiju attack in Anchorage, Yancy was ripped from the Conn-Pod and killed while still Drifting with Raleigh -- Raleigh felt his brother die through the neural link. He solo-piloted Gipsy Danger to shore (thought impossible) and left the program for five years, working on the Anti-Kaiju Wall. Recruited back by Stacker Pentecost for Operation Pitfall. Became Drift-compatible with Mako Mori. Together they piloted Gipsy Danger into the Breach and detonated its nuclear reactor, sealing the portal. Raleigh survived via escape pod.
- #8FILM 1: Mako Moriselective
Keys: Mori, Mako · Secondary: Onibaba, engineer, adopted, Tokyo
[FILM 1] Mako Mori is Stacker Pentecost's adopted daughter and Raleigh Becket's co-pilot. Japanese, orphaned as a child during a Kaiju attack on Tokyo -- she was found wandering the streets alone, pursued by the Kaiju Onibaba, until Stacker in Coyote Tango killed it. He adopted her and raised her within the PPDC. Brilliant engineer who oversaw Gipsy Danger's restoration. Became Drift-compatible with Raleigh despite Stacker's reluctance to let her pilot. Her first Drift went badly -- she chased the RABIT into her childhood trauma and nearly fired Gipsy Danger's weapons inside the Shatterdome. She mastered the Drift and co-piloted during Operation Pitfall. In Uprising, Mako served as PPDC Secretary General and was killed when Obsidian Fury shot down her helicopter.
- #9FILM 1: Stacker Pentecostselective
Keys: Stacker, Pentecost · Secondary: radiation, Coyote Tango, Marshal, sacrifice
[FILM 1] Marshal Stacker Pentecost is the commanding officer of the Hong Kong Shatterdome and the architect of Operation Pitfall -- humanity's last-ditch plan to seal the Breach with a nuclear warhead. British, former Jaeger pilot who co-piloted Coyote Tango in Tokyo where he killed Onibaba and saved young Mako, whom he adopted. Piloting a Mark-1 Jaeger gave him terminal radiation sickness. Despite being dying, he co-piloted Striker Eureka with Herc Hansen for Operation Pitfall after Chuck Hansen was injured. Detonated Striker Eureka's payload at the Breach entrance, sacrificing himself. His final words to Mako: "You can always find me in the Drift." Father of Jake Pentecost (from a previous relationship), who appears in Uprising.
- #10FILM 1: The Hansensselective
Keys: Hansen, Herc, Chuck · Secondary: Australian, Sydney, Max, father, son
[FILM 1] Herc and Chuck Hansen are an Australian father-son Jaeger pilot team who co-pilot Striker Eureka, the most advanced Jaeger in the fleet (Mark-5). Chuck is arrogant, aggressive, and the youngest pilot to ever qualify -- driven by the memory of his mother's death during a Kaiju attack on Sydney, when his father chose to save him instead of her. Their Drift is strained by unresolved grief and guilt. Chuck was injured before Operation Pitfall, so Herc could not co-pilot Striker Eureka. Stacker Pentecost took Chuck's place. Chuck's bulldog Max was the Shatterdome mascot. Herc survived and became Marshal of the PPDC, briefly appearing in The Black anime.
- #11FILM 1: The Scientistsselective
Keys: Hermann, Newton, Gottlieb, Geiszler, Newt, scientist · Secondary: mathematician, research, K-Science, lab, biologist
[FILM 1] Dr. Newton "Newt" Geiszler and Dr. Hermann Gottlieb are the PPDC's lead scientists -- a biologist and mathematician who bicker constantly and are secretly deeply bonded. Newt is manic, tattooed with Kaiju art, obsessed with Kaiju biology. Hermann is rigid, precise, walks with a cane, obsessed with mathematical prediction of Kaiju attacks. Newt Drifted with a Kaiju brain using a makeshift rig, discovering the Precursors' hive mind and their plan -- but the Drift was two-way, giving the Precursors access to his mind. He and Hermann Drifted together with a second Kaiju brain to discover the Breach's DNA lock. Their reluctant partnership and eventual Drift is one of the film's emotional cores. In Uprising, Newt's mind was colonized by the Precursors through his repeated Kaiju Drifts, and he became their agent.
- #12FILM 1: Hannibal Chauselective
Keys: black market, Bone Slums, Chau, Hannibal · Secondary: dealer, kingpin, organs, Hong Kong
[FILM 1] Hannibal Chau is the kingpin of Hong Kong's Kaiju black market, operating out of the Bone Slums -- the district built in and around Kaiju remains. He harvests and sells Kaiju organs, bones, skin, and parasites. Named himself after his favorite historical figure and his second-favorite Szechuan restaurant. Wears gold-plated shoes, a garish suit, and butterfly knife. Provides Newt with a Kaiju brain for Drifting. Apparently killed when swallowed by a baby Kaiju that burst from Otachi's corpse, but survived -- shown cutting his way out in the post-credits scene.
- #13FILM 1: Jaegersselective
Keys: Gipsy Danger, Cherno Alpha, Striker Eureka, Crimson Typhoon, Coyote Tango · Secondary: Wei Tang, plasma caster, chain sword, nuclear
[FILM 1 JAEGERS] Gipsy Danger: American Mark-3, nuclear-powered, piloted by the Beckets then by Raleigh and Mako. Armed with a plasma caster, chain sword, and elbow rockets. Destroyed sealing the Breach. Striker Eureka: Australian Mark-5, fastest and most advanced Jaeger, piloted by the Hansens. Armed with anti-Kaiju missiles and retractable blades. Destroyed at the Breach. Crimson Typhoon: Chinese Mark-4, three-armed, piloted by the Wei Tang triplets. Armed with rotating saw blades. Destroyed in Hong Kong by Otachi and Leatherback. Cherno Alpha: Russian Mark-1, the heaviest and oldest active Jaeger, nuclear-powered. Destroyed in Hong Kong. Coyote Tango: Japanese Mark-1, piloted by Stacker Pentecost in Tokyo. Caused his radiation sickness.
- #14FILM 1: Kaijuselective
Keys: Leatherback, Knifehead, Slattern, Otachi, Trespasser · Secondary: K-Day, San Francisco, Scunner, acid, Raiju, EMP
[FILM 1 KAIJU] Trespasser: the first Kaiju, Cat-I, attacked San Francisco on K-Day (August 2013). Took six days and three nuclear strikes to kill. Knifehead: Cat-III, attacked Anchorage, killed Yancy Becket and severely damaged Gipsy Danger. Otachi: Cat-IV, attacked Hong Kong, could fly and spit corrosive acid. Carried a baby Kaiju. Leatherback: Cat-IV, attacked Hong Kong alongside Otachi, generated EMPs that disabled electronics. Scunner and Raiju: Cat-IV pair guarding the Breach during Operation Pitfall. Slattern: Cat-V, the largest and most powerful Kaiju ever recorded, guarded the Breach entrance. Killed by Striker Eureka's nuclear detonation.
- #15FILM 1: Operation Pitfall & the Wallselective
Keys: Operation Pitfall, Wall of Life, Anti-Kaiju Wall, seal the Breach · Secondary: barrier, warhead, last stand, detonation
[FILM 1] Operation Pitfall was Marshal Pentecost's plan to seal the Breach using a nuclear warhead carried by Striker Eureka, with Gipsy Danger providing escort. The plan required detonating the warhead inside the Breach throat. The complication: the Breach was coded to Kaiju DNA, so a human bomb couldn't pass through. Newt and Hermann's Drift with a Kaiju brain revealed this, leading to the solution of riding a Kaiju corpse through. Stacker and Herc piloted Striker Eureka; Raleigh and Mako piloted Gipsy Danger. Striker detonated early to clear the Breach guardians, and Gipsy Danger rode Slattern's body through the portal, detonated its reactor in the Anteverse, and sealed the Breach. The Anti-Kaiju Wall was a political alternative to Jaegers -- a massive coastal barrier meant to keep Kaiju out. It failed within an hour of its first test when a Kaiju punched through it.
- #16UPRISING: Jake & Nateselective
Keys: Nate Lambert, Jake Pentecost · Secondary: son of Stacker, instructor, legacy, hustler
[UPRISING] Jake Pentecost is the son of Stacker Pentecost and the protagonist of Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018). Unlike his father, Jake rejected the PPDC and became a hustler, stealing and selling Jaeger parts on the black market. Arrested and given a choice: prison or returning to the Jaeger program as an instructor. Co-pilots Gipsy Avenger with Nate Lambert, his former co-pilot and rival. Jake carries the weight of his father's legacy and his own resentment of it. Nate Lambert is his counterpart -- disciplined, committed, everything Jake isn't. Their strained relationship and eventual reconciliation mirrors the Drift compatibility arc. Jake ultimately leads the defense of MegaTokyo against the Mega-Kaiju.
- #17UPRISING: Amara Namaniselective
Keys: Scrapper, Amara, Namani, cadet · Secondary: Santa Monica, single-pilot, orphan, junkyard
[UPRISING] Amara Namani is a teenage orphan who survived a Kaiju attack that killed her family in Santa Monica. She built a single-pilot Jaeger called Scrapper from scavenged parts in a junkyard -- small, fast, designed for one person (bypassing the two-pilot requirement through limited functionality). Arrested for illegal Jaeger operation, she was recruited into the PPDC cadet program by Jake Pentecost. Brash, resourceful, mechanically brilliant, deeply traumatized. She becomes one of the pilots defending MegaTokyo. Her backstory is expanded in the Pacific Rim: Amara comic series.
- #18UPRISING: Shao & Dronesselective
Keys: unmanned, Liwen, drone, Shao · Secondary: Shao Industries, mass-produced, compromise, remote
[UPRISING] Liwen Shao is the CEO of Shao Industries, a Chinese tech corporation that developed an unmanned drone Jaeger program to replace human pilots. Her drones could be mass-produced and remotely operated, making human Drift-pilots obsolete. The PPDC was preparing to approve worldwide drone deployment when the drones were revealed to be compromised -- Newton Geiszler, secretly controlled by the Precursors, had embedded Kaiju-organic hybrid components in every drone. When activated, the drones opened Breaches across the Pacific simultaneously. Shao was not complicit -- she was horrified and allied with the PPDC to stop the attack. She helped convert her remaining technology to support the human Jaeger counterattack.
- #19UPRISING: Newt's Betrayalselective
Keys: colonized, Precursor agent, Newt betrayal, possessed · Secondary: infiltration, mind control, hybrid, traitor
[UPRISING] Newton Geiszler's repeated Drifts with Kaiju brains between the two films allowed the Precursors to gradually colonize his mind. By Uprising, Newt is fully under Precursor influence while maintaining his personality as a cover -- working at Shao Industries as head of research, secretly embedding Kaiju-organic hybrid technology into the drone Jaegers. When activated, the hybrids opened multiple Breaches simultaneously and allowed three Kaiju through, which merged into the Mega-Kaiju. Newt was captured after the battle. Hermann, his former partner, was devastated by the betrayal. The Precursors' strategy shifted from brute-force invasion to infiltration -- using a human they had already touched through the Drift.
- #20UPRISING: Jaegersselective
Keys: Obsidian Fury, Guardian Bravo, Bracer Phoenix, Gipsy Avenger, Saber Athena · Secondary: gravity sling, plasma sword, arc whip, Titan Redeemer
[UPRISING JAEGERS] Gipsy Avenger: Mark-6, successor to Gipsy Danger, piloted by Jake and Nate. Armed with gravity sling and chain sword. Bracer Phoenix: Mark-5, three-pilot heavy assault Jaeger with a massive vortex cannon. Saber Athena: Mark-7, the most advanced Jaeger built, fastest in the fleet, armed with twin plasma swords. Guardian Bravo: Mark-6, armed with an electric arc whip. Titan Redeemer: Mark-6 brawler with a morning-star wrecking ball. Obsidian Fury: a rogue Jaeger of unknown origin that attacked Sydney and killed Mako Mori -- revealed to be a Kaiju-Jaeger hybrid created by the Precursors through Newt. Scrapper: Amara's homemade single-pilot mini-Jaeger.
- #21UPRISING: Kaiju & Mega-Kaijuselective
Keys: Raijin, Shrikethorn, Hakuja, MegaTokyo, Mega-Kaiju · Secondary: volcano, merged, Mount Fuji, combined, terraform
[UPRISING KAIJU] Three Kaiju emerged through the multiple Breaches opened by the compromised drones: Raijin (armored, absorbs energy attacks), Hakuja (subterranean burrower), and Shrikethorn (ranged attacker with tail spines). Their target was Mount Fuji -- the Precursors' plan was to detonate the volcano using Kaiju blood to trigger a global extinction-level event that would terraform Earth. The three Kaiju merged into the Mega-Kaiju, a massive combined entity and the most powerful Kaiju ever encountered. It was defeated by the Jaegers in MegaTokyo when Gipsy Avenger, boosted by rocket propulsion from atmospheric reentry, destroyed it with a direct orbital drop.
- #22THE BLACK: Taylor & Hayleyselective
Keys: Taylor Travis, siblings, Hayley Travis · Secondary: parents, Australia, abandoned, Travis, settlement
[THE BLACK] Taylor and Hayley Travis are the teenage protagonists of Pacific Rim: The Black. Australian siblings whose parents were Jaeger pilots deployed to fight Kaiju in Australia. Their parents left them in a hidden survivor settlement and never returned. Five years later, Hayley discovers a decommissioned training Jaeger -- Atlas Destroyer -- in an underground PPDC facility. Taylor, the cautious older brother, carries guilt and inadequacy. Hayley, the impulsive younger sister, is reckless and emotionally driven. Together they pilot Atlas Destroyer across the abandoned Australian continent searching for their parents, encountering hostile survivors, rogue factions, and Kaiju.
- #23THE BLACK: Atlas Destroyer & Loaselective
Keys: training Jaeger, Atlas Destroyer, Loa · Secondary: Horizon Bravo, Chaos Nemesis, Hunter Vertigo, derelict, AI
[THE BLACK] Atlas Destroyer is the main Jaeger in Pacific Rim: The Black -- a decommissioned Mark-3 training Jaeger discovered in an underground PPDC facility in Australia. It was not designed for combat and is significantly less powerful than frontline Jaegers. During the series it acquires replacement parts from derelict Jaegers, including an arm from Chaos Nemesis and components from Horizon Bravo. Loa is Atlas Destroyer's onboard AI -- an artificial intelligence that manages systems, provides tactical guidance, and develops a personality over time. Loa has a history with older Jaegers and glitches when scanning certain derelicts, suggesting hidden backstory. Hunter Vertigo is a Mark-5 combat Jaeger that appears briefly in the series.
- #24THE BLACK: Boy / Brinaselective
Keys: Kaiju Messiah, Boy, human Kaiju, Brina, Kaiju hybrid · Secondary: transform, child, egg, hybrid
[THE BLACK] Boy (later named Brina) is a Kaiju-human hybrid discovered by Hayley inside a Kaiju egg. He appears as a mute human child but can transform into a Kaiju form -- proof that the Precursors have developed the ability to create Kaiju that look human. Hayley bonds with him maternally and insists on protecting him despite Taylor and Mei's distrust. Boy's existence has massive implications: if the Precursors can make human-appearing Kaiju, infiltration is possible on a scale beyond what Newt's colonization represented. The Sisters of the Kaiju cult worship him as the "Kaiju Messiah." In Season 2, the High Priestess attempts to brainwash Boy to serve her vision, but he ultimately rejects her control.
- #25THE BLACK: Settingselective
Keys: abandoned Australia, overrun, The Black, evacuation · Secondary: outback, survivors, continent, Sydney base, wasteland
[THE BLACK SETTING] "The Black" is the name for the abandoned Australian continent in the anime. After the events of the films, new Breaches opened across Australia and the Kaiju overran the entire continent. The PPDC attempted to defend it but failed. Australia was officially evacuated and abandoned -- the PPDC pulled out, leaving scattered pockets of survivors in hidden communities. The Black is a post-apocalyptic wasteland: Kaiju roam freely, resources are scarce, and surviving human factions range from peaceful settlements to hostile warlords. The tone is Mad Max meets Pacific Rim -- lawless, desperate, and far from the institutional support of the PPDC. Sydney base is referenced as the last PPDC holdout.
- #26THE BLACK: Supporting Castselective
Keys: Shane, Rickter, Mei, Joel, Bogan · Secondary: criminal, warlord, cyborg, territory
[THE BLACK] Mei is a former criminal turned ally who joins Taylor and Hayley aboard Atlas Destroyer. Skilled fighter, pragmatic, distrustful, gradually bonds with the siblings. Joel was her companion -- a cyborg with a mechanical body -- who Shane killed by detonating his head to punish Mei for leaving. Shane is a charismatic but ruthless warlord who controls a territory in the Black using salvaged Jaeger technology and intimidation. He pursues Atlas Destroyer for its value and offers trades the siblings cannot trust. Rickter runs a settlement called Bogan -- a fortified community of survivors. He is opportunistic and self-serving and faces no consequences for his actions by the series' end.
- #27THE BLACK: Sisters of the Kaijuselective
Keys: cult, High Priestess, worship, Sisters of the Kaiju · Secondary: masks, robes, tamed, religion, lunatics
[THE BLACK] The Sisters of the Kaiju are a cult operating in the Black who worship Kaiju as divine beings. Led by the High Priestess, they believe Kaiju are Earth's true inheritors and that humans should submit to their dominion. They use tamed smaller Kaiju ("Kaiju dogs") as companions and enforcers. They are fixated on Boy/Brina as the "Kaiju Messiah" -- a human-Kaiju hybrid they believe will bridge the species. In Season 2, the High Priestess captures Boy and attempts to brainwash him to serve the cult's vision. She is ultimately killed by Boy when he rejects her control. The cult represents the darkest extreme of human adaptation to the Kaiju apocalypse -- worship instead of resistance.
- #28THE BLACK: Kaijuselective
Keys: Kaiju dog, Acidquill, Copperhead · Secondary: territorial, snake, adapted, predator
[THE BLACK KAIJU] The Black features several unique Kaiju species adapted to the Australian environment. Copperhead is a large snake-like Kaiju that attacks early in the series. Acidquill is a dangerous Kaiju seen in the opening sequence being fought by Herc Hansen's Jaeger. Kaiju dogs are smaller, dog-sized Kaiju used by the Sisters of the Kaiju cult as tamed companions and trackers. The Black's Kaiju differ from the ocean-emerging Kaiju of the films -- many have established territorial ranges across Australia and behave more like apex predators in an ecosystem than coordinated invaders, suggesting they may have adapted beyond Precursor control after the Breach closures.
- #29COMICS: Tales from Year Zeroselective
Keys: Year Zero, Tales from Year Zero, K-Day, Naomi Sokolov · Secondary: Jasper, prequel comic, Caitlin Lightcap, Tendo Choi, Tamsin, Luna
[COMICS] Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero (2013) is the graphic novel prequel to the first film, written by screenwriter Travis Beacham. Journalist Naomi Sokolov interviews key figures about the Kaiju War's origins. Three stories: "K-Day" follows Tendo Choi's experience during the first Kaiju attack on San Francisco. "Turn of the Tide" covers Jasper Schoenfeld and Caitlin Lightcap developing the Drift technology and neural link -- Caitlin was the first human to Drift with a Jaeger. "The Bond" tells how Stacker Pentecost adopted Mako after killing Onibaba in Tokyo, piloting Coyote Tango with Tamsin Sevier, who later died of radiation sickness. Reveals that Stacker's sister Luna was among the first pilots killed.
- #30COMICS: Tales from the Driftselective
Keys: Kaori Jessop, Tales from the Drift, Duc Jessop · Secondary: relationship, psychological toll, married pilots, Jessop
[COMICS] Pacific Rim: Tales from the Drift (2015-2016) is a four-issue miniseries set during the Kaiju War, following married Jaeger pilots Duc and Kaori Jessop. It explores the psychological toll of the Drift on intimate relationships -- sharing memories and consciousness with your spouse means there are no secrets, no privacy, and total emotional transparency. The series examines what happens when trauma enters the Drift: Kaori experienced her co-pilot's death in a previous Jaeger before partnering with Duc, and those memories bleed into their shared neural space. The comic deepens the lore around how the Drift affects long-term relationships and mental health.
- #31COMICS: Aftermath, Amara & Blackoutselective
Keys: Uprising comic, Blackout comic, Amara comic, Aftermath · Secondary: Cavan Scott, comic series, graphic novel
[COMICS] Pacific Rim: Aftermath (2018) bridges the first film and Uprising, following a Kaiju-worshipping cult and the world's adjustment to life after the Breach closure. Pacific Rim: Amara (2018) is a prequel to Uprising focusing on young Amara Namani building Scrapper in Santa Monica's ruins while evading authorities and confronting her trauma from the Kaiju attack that killed her family. Pacific Rim: Blackout (2022) is a prequel to The Black anime, covering the events leading to Australia's fall -- the new Breaches opening across the continent, the PPDC's failed defense, and the evacuation that left survivors stranded. Written by Cavan Scott.
