Owl House: Four Years After

1. #1Demon Realm

   Keys: Demon Realm

The Demon Realm is an alternate dimension separate from the Human Realm, and is inhabited by an abundance of magical beings, such as witches and demons. The series follows one location in the Demon Realm called the Boiling Isles, the home of Eda Clawthorne, King, Hooty, and later Luz Noceda.

The Demon Realm is intrinsically connected to the Human Realm through a substance called Titan's Blood, which sometimes causes leaks between the two realms and allows entities to cross over.

Places of interest -Boiling Sea: A sea that boils at lethal temperatures. -Boiling Isles: An archipelago made from the remains of a deceased Titan, situated in the Boiling Sea. -Simmering Shoals: The shoals found somewhere off the coast of the Boiling Isles. The area is home to a Selkidomus and her baby. -Uncharted island: A mysterious island found somewhere off the coast of the Boiling Isles. -Titan Trapper Island: A titan corpse archipelago other than the Boiling Isles where a mysterious magic user caught the Owl Beast and turned it into a curse scroll. This is also where a group called Titan Trappers live.

The byproducts of these leaks inspired the folklore, myths, and legends of Earth from pieces of the Demon Realm finding their way into the Human Realm.

Items such as books from The Good Witch Azura franchise and the digestive contents of trash slugs also make it to the Demon Realm from Earth.

Giraffes originally lived in the Demon Realm before being exiled to the Human Realm.

In the Demon Realm, humans are exceedingly rare, leading to a general lack of understanding about them. For unknown reasons, there exists a prejudice against them, although it is implied that this prejudice stems from humans' lack of bile sac and therefore magical ability.

The portal door serves as a transportable bridge between realms through Titan's Blood, but while it can be used anywhere in the Demon Realm, it apparently opens a fixed location in the Human Realm, specifically in Connecticut.

While all known native inhabitants of the Demon Realm are shown to speak American English, there appears to be knowledge of other human languages due to these leaks. It is unknown if there are other native tongues.

2. #2Boiling Isles

   Keys: Boiling Isles

The Boiling Isles is an archipelago in the Demon Realm. Situated in the Boiling Sea, it is formed from the decaying remains of a certain fallen Titan and populated by magical creatures, predominantly witches and demons.

Geography As aforementioned, the Isles are an archipelago formed along the skeleton of a fallen Titan. As the Titan's cadaver is humanoid, many of its landmarks are named for their location on its body. One such area is the Knee, literally the Titan's raised right kneecap, which is raised to an altitude that facilitates freezing temperatures, thus making it mountain-like. Other such areas include the Forearm Forest, home to the Looking Glass Ruins; the "Swampy Toes"; the "Cubital Valley"; etc. Despite the immensity of the Titan's body, the Isles can be traversed in a relatively short amount of time, especially by air. Many areas on the Isles are imbued with the Titan's natural magic, which has survived for ages.

The natural scenery of the Isles is equally fantastical and macabre; it boasts plagues rather than a typical weather pattern and veritable swaths of magnificent, if incredibly dangerous, fauna and megafauna. The residents of the Owl House, Eda especially, hold the natural beauty of the Isles in high regard.

The map of Boiling Isles from the book The Unauthorized Boiling Isles History shows the directions of north, east, south and west; the Titan's head points northward while its hands are east and west, respectively.

Society and culture The inhabitants of the Boiling Isles are remarkably prejudiced against humans. Despite this, the society which has flourished on the Isles mirrors human civilization considerably. The people of the Isles boast many common societal conventions, such as the employment of language, writing, and commerce; an established economical unit, the Snail. Human conventions, such as electricity and technology, while not unknown on the Isles, are rarely utilized, although supernatural analogs of technology, such as crow phones, crystal balls, and Scrolls, exist for communication.

Certainly, the most significant distinction between the culture of the Isles and that of Earth is the permeation and acceptance of magic. The ability to wield magic is considered a tremendous gift from the Titan itself, and to misuse it is culturally taboo. By the laws of the land, magic is misused when different "types" of it are blended. To avoid this, it is customary for witches to assign themselves to a coven once they come of age. This ordinance is a relatively new convention, being extant a mere fifty years prior to the arrival of Luz. Prior to this era was the Savage Ages, a time in which witches and demons were free to practice wild magic and blended practices to their pleasure. In most cases, witches must seal away aspects of their magic which are unrelated to their chosen coven; for example, Luz witnesses a witch joining the Illusion Coven and subsequently having his other magic forcefully curtailed. Following the defeat of Emperor Belos, unrestrained magic is now legal. School-age witches previously chose tracks to best prepare themselves for the now-defunct covens they previously would've been forced to eventually join; thanks to Luz's influence, Hexside allows students to study multiple tracks at once.

According to Hooty, all life-forms on the Isles can either be classified as a witch or demon, both of which evolved as a consequence of the Titan's decomposition. Among demons, three types (known also as the "Three B's") are noted: the "bug type"; the "beast type"; and the "biped type". A fourth classification which covers "hybrids" also exists.

History Before the advent of witches and demons, a magical Titan which roamed the Boiling Sea died and fell where it stood. The ancient magic at the Titan's disposal was so immense that the life which evolved from the Titan's remains was imbued with magic as well. Eons later, witches and demons alike recognize and revere the Titan as the progenitor of their magic. Even Luz, foreign to the Isles, recognizes magic as a "gift" from him.

During the prehistoric times, a period known as the "Hecktaceous Period" happened. The known inhabitants during that time were Stonesleepers. Similar to Earth in the Hadean era 4.6 billion years ago, the area was filled with volcanoes and molten lava, which comprised the Boiling Sea in that time period.

Eventually, the Isles descended into a 'lawless' time known as the Savage Ages, in which the people of the Isles blended different forms of magic with abandon and without restriction. Though modern historians claim that this was apparently a time of unrest, it was actually a period of prosperity for the Isles.

In the 1600s (also known as the "Deadwardian Era"), Philip Wittebane, a human, lived in Bonesborough. Beholden to the Demon Realm, he sought to find a bridge between his native realm and the Demon Realm. The specifics of his quest were documented in his diary, which was later donated to the archives of the Bonesborough Library. Although the human supposedly disappeared, Philip actually assumed a different identity as "Belos", who used fearmongering and manipulation to scare witches and demons into following him. He orchestrated the destruction of cities and claimed that wild magic only brought destruction. Belos preached that mixing magical arts was wrong, and that he spoke as an emissary of the Titan. Belos eventually rose to prominence, declaring himself as Emperor of the Boiling Isles, and implemented the Coven System to enforce the 'proper' way to practice magic. He would officially declare the Isles as an empire on Scabuary 40th, fifty years before the start of the series, ending the so-called "Savage Ages".

Presumably around this time, Hexside School of Magic and Demonics launched a successful conquest of their rival school and built its current campus atop this school's ruin. As a student of Hexside himself at the time, Hieronymus Bump and Frewin were significant combatants in this crusade.

By the time Luz first found herself in the Boiling Isles, Emperor Belos held full political control over the Boiling Isles, enforced via his personal coven, and with dissenters contained in prisons such as the Conformatorium, meant to conform them to societal ideals. The strictures of the coven system stipulate that all eligible magic-users belong to a coven, or else risk punishment. While this is promoted as a celebration of unity, the true purpose of this system (besides simple subjugation) was preparation for the forthcoming Day of Unity, which Belos claimed was an effort to merge the Demon Realm with the Human Realm, thus offering a "utopia" to the "worthy". In reality, it is merely a cover for a Draining Spell designed to wipe out all life on the Isles.

Although nearly coming to fruition, the Day of Unity is stopped by the Collector, a powerful magical being who Belos had worked with before then betraying. Having been imprisoned in the In Between Realm by the Titan, the Collector is released by the Titan's son, King Clawthorne. Newly freed, the Collector would effectively turn the Boiling Isles into a personal playground, transforming most of the citizens of the Isles into puppets and staging various "games" with them. Certain small groups of denizens, such as the students of Hexside, were able to hide from the Collector and avoid transformation. This state of affairs continues up until Belos, still with the goal of wiping out the inhabitants of the Isles, possesses the heart of the Titan, granting him greater magical power and control over the Titan's body. This attempt is quickly thwarted, however, by Luz Noceda, Eda Clawthorne, King Clawthorne, and Raine Whispers, who are able to separate Belos from the Titan's heart and kill him. At the same time, the Collector is convinced out of his behavior, leading him to return the populace of the Boiling Isle back to normal, before departing. With the emperor dead, and with the Coven System being abandoned, the Boiling Isles entered a new age of rebuilding, stability, and peace.

Places of interest As was stated, the Titan's body serves as a natural standard by which the Isles are mapped.

3. #3Titan (Race)

   Keys: Titan

Titans are a near-extinct colossal species hailing from the ancient past of the Demon Realm. In present times, King is the last known living titan.

Titans are incredibly powerful creatures with near-omnipotent magic and are widely considered among the most powerful beings in the Demon Realm. Their mere blood is powerful enough to pierce through realms, their roar capable of shattering objects and rupturing eardrums, and their magic manifesting in the form of glyphs. A certain deceased Titan's magic was so potent that it allowed for all witches and demons to evolve biology allowing them to use magic too.

Although a powerful race, the Titans endured a mass extermination by the Collectors, who gradually wiped out the species due to their ability to cancel out Collectors' magic, and thus potentially interfere with their plans. Eventually, only two titans remained, these two being the Titan and his unborn son, King. In trying to protect his son, the Titan hid his son on an island and imprisoned the youngest collector in the In Between Realm, falsely assuming this collector would bring his son harm as their siblings did.

In the modern day, a number of the remains of larger Titan specimens make up landmasses and other notable geographic sites, which include the Boiling Isles, made up of the gargantuan remains of the Titan, and the Titan Trapper Island, which is made up of the large hand of a similarly sized titan and surrounded by the piled skeletal remains of countless others.

From the few examples and depictions that survive, it seems that titans can vary in size and appearance, but most examples show that titans are anthropomorphic bipeds. They are furred and often canine-like in appearance and have bushy vulpine tails. They have two to five bony claws as fingers (the number may depend on age, as King initially had only two and a non-clawed thumb throughout the main series but has developed a claw thumb four years after Belos' defeat), and two to five thick claws on their pawed feet as toes (four on the front and one on the back), again depending on their age.

The most prominent and recognizable feature of a titan is their horned, animalistic skull embedded upon their upper head, over their eyes (and black eyelids) and lower jaw. Many titans, including King, are shown featuring skulls with a canine-like shape to them. However, one of the titan corpses that comprises Titan Trapper Island appears with a flatter, more crocodile-like skull. Titans' horns can vary widely in position and appearance, ranging from straight and upward pointing to curled to bent and angular. They can also vary in number, with most titans having two, but the Titan having four, two atop his head and two emerging from his mandible. The teeth of their skull, which consist of two canine teeth and a couple to a few molars, the latter of which infant Titans seemingly lack, can also vary in length, number, and sharpness. King's non-canine teeth, of which he has four, started out flat, but have grown pointed.

Some titans, such as the Titan of the Boiling Isles, are shown to possess bat-like wings on their back or arms. Despite his father possessing them, King does not have wings, implying that either only some titans have them, or that they are developed at a later age.

Mature titans can become as large as entire islands. Juvenile titans start at a very small size, initially akin to that of a small dog, but slowly grow larger and larger until they reach their massive size. The blood of a titan is cerulean blue in color.

Very little information has been revealed about the Titans, as their existence is all but lost to the Demon Realm. What is known is that titan magic is incredibly potent, and the effects of their magic influenced all life that inhabits the Demon Realm; natural magic that originated from titans can be commanded via glyph magic and their blood is a highly potent power source for all sorts of magical devices. Titans reproduce through eggs, which are extremely minuscule compared to a fully grown adult. Back when King was an egg, he once heard the roar of his father, the long-dead Boiling Isles titan, suggesting that it took centuries, or perhaps even millennia for him to hatch. Hatchling titans start off as no bigger than a small dog. Presumably, their massive size only comes after many years of age and maturation.

While not much is clear about their culture, murals from King's island and the Archive House reveal an early titan society existing at some point. Bill claims to have seen a Titan before the entire species supposedly went extinct. According to him, Titans are always hungry, make a "weh" sound, and even their young act like monarchs. It is unclear how much of Bill's claims, if any of it, is true, given that Bill apparently lied to his people about the nature of Titans to fulfill his part of a deal with the Collector. Though, "weh" is a sound that King often utters, and he does act like a monarch.

In the distant past, cosmic beings called the collectors discovered the Demon Realm. To further study the new world, a group of collectors known as the Archivists sent one of their younger members to it to play, and the Titans warmly accepted him and allowed him to play with their children. However, once the Archivists learned titan magic was capable of cancelling out their own magic, the collectors sought to eradicate the titans. However, the titans took opposition to the extraterrestrial race, and the two races became locked in war. Sometime around this period, the Titan Trappers, a group of witches who worship the young Collector, and possibly the Archivists as well, donned the skulls of fallen Titans, and they aided the collectors' war against the titans.

Despite their resistance, the collectors ultimately wiped-out titans. However, a single surviving titan and his unhatched son, King, remained. At some point in time, they would encounter the Collector, who wished to play with King as he had with other baby titans, of which there were none left. However, the Titan assumed he had malicious intent like the Archivists did, causing him to hide his son away on an uncharted island and drag the Collector down into the In Between Realm, trapping himself there in the process. Meanwhile, his son's egg was left hidden for thousands of years on the island, finally hatching roughly twelve years before the present. After the fall of the titan race, their skeletal remains formed into landmasses across the Demon Realm, such as the Boiling Isles that arose from King's father and the Titan Trapper Island. According to The Unauthorized Boiling Isles History, the Boiling Isles' Titan supposedly remains the only known complete skeleton among the remains of other titans.

Supposedly, the muck of a decomposing titan gave rise to the demons that inhabit the Demon Realm.

Powers and abilities -Magic: Titans possess immense magical power. The Titan, whose corpse makes up the Boiling Isles, had magic that the inhabitants adapted to, resulting in they themselves being able to generate their own magic and utilize it. The Titan's very blood was capable of opening a portal between worlds. Whether titans are actually capable of utilizing this power themselves is unknown. King proved himself unable to use magic with no glyphs, but he is still only a child. Titan magic is also able to cancel out the collectors'. The magic of titans is implied to come from their hearts in some capacity, though apparently not from a bile sac like that of witches or biped demons. The Titan was able to transfer his magic to Luz Noceda, albeit temporarily. It is unknown if this is a trait naturally possessed by titans as a species. -Nigh-omnipotence: Similarly to collectors, titans possess immense magical power. -Glyph Magic: Titans are able to generate their own unique magic in the form of glyphs. Each individual titan's set of glyphs are unique, with King having a distinct set of glyphs from his fathers', but their glyphs always seem to manifest as that of four main glyphs. -Light Glyph: Titans are able to produce unique light glyphs, which represent light and are capable of creating magic related to it, such as producing floating orbs of light. Luz notes that its magic may also encompass other light-related concepts, such as reflection, color, or power, which seem to be particularly relevant in their usage in glyph combination. -Plant Glyph: Titans' plant glyphs are capable of producing plants and other vegetation of various sizes and varieties. -Fire Glyph: Titans' fire glyphs are capable of producing fire and high temperature in various forms, ranging from simple flames to fire blasts to fireballs, as well as acting as a source of heat capable of melting objects. -Ice Glyph: Titans' ice glyphs are capable of producing ice and low temperature in various forms, such as creating intricate ice constructs or freezing objects in blocks of ice. It is also capable of producing water under certain circumstances, particularly when used in conjunction with the fire glyph. -Glyph Combinations: Through the combination of the four main glyphs, ranging from simply and by means of few Glyphs to exceedingly intricately and using many, titans are able to produce a near finite number of other spells, ranging from hovering objects, making oneself invisible, summoning monstrous appendages and even teleportation. -Shield Creation: Through the use of glyphs, Titans are capable of generating a spherical golden shield around their bodies, as shown by King in his enraged form. -Strength enhancement: Through the use of their glyph magic, titans are capable of enhancing their own raw strength. -Sonic shout: Titans possess a powerful roar that produces an expanding, glowing ring of powerful magic capable of breaking the sound barrier and destroying or damaging whatever it comes in contact with. It is shown to be immensely powerful under the right circumstances, such as when King uses it to destroy the entire Titan finger teleporter to the Titan Trapper Island, as well as use it to counteract Belos's titan-enhanced magic. When the Titan used his sonic shout, the sound was loud enough to permanently rupture Bill's eardrums. In addition, King attempts to use his sonic shout as a method of echolocation, though it is unknown if this truly works, as King was still figuring out the ability at the time. Sealing ability: As seen with the Titan, titans are powerful enough to drag and trap creatures into other dimensions through unknown means, possibly involving some kind of spell. -Fire breath: Emperor Belos, after partially possessing the Titan's corpse via its heart, gained the ability to blast large blue flames from his mouth that spread his corruption through the Boiling Isles. Additionally, in one of the Collector's portraits, a titan is depicted breathing large orange flames out of its mouth in a similar manner. -Flight: As some titans possess wings, it is presumed they are capable of flight.

4. #4Witch (Race)

   Keys: witch, witches

Witches are a species present in the Demon Realm. They are known to reside on the Boiling Isles and Titan Trapper Island. They constitute a significant portion of the Demon Realm's civilization, alongside Demons.

Witches are born with a sac connected to their heart which contains a mucous, magical bile. Due to this, they are able to utilize magic and cast spells using spell circles.

Witches are humanoid beings; the majority of them are physically identical to humans besides a few morphological differences. Witches have pointed ears, as opposed to the rounded ears of humans. Much like animals, their ears can perk up when they are feeling positive emotions such as excitement and joy, and flatten when they are feeling negative emotions such as embarrassment, fear, or anger. However, other witches have more demon-like appearances or traits, like in the case of Boscha, Adrian, Steve, or Professor Hermonculus. Witch hair colors, along with matching those of humans, can also sometimes be non-human colors, such as green, blue, violet, or pink.

Witches can naturally cast magic; due to the immense amount of magical power at the disposal of a Titan, witches evolved a sac attached to their hearts that contains magic bile, which also applies to biped demons. The sacs function as a source of magic, like batteries to electronic devices but at a biological level for them to draw magical abilities, similar to palismen, and contain different "spell phlegms" that can mix together to make different spells. Due to the bile sacs, witches are able to cast spell circles.

Witches and humans also share an average lifespan range, though some witches can develop means to prolong their life with magic.

In mythology and folklore, a "witch" refers to a human or individual who practices witchcraft. Although modern popular media associate the witch as exclusively female, the term itself is not confined by gender. This is also true in the Boiling Isles, where "witch" is a gender-neutral term, referring to their species.

Among witches, other traditional practitioners of magic include magicians, sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards, the latter two, in recent years, are popularly coined as the male equivalents of a witch. In the Boiling Isles, while wizards exist, this is more of a title witches can call themselves, and the word "warlock" is the Boiling Isles' equivalent to the term "edgelord".

Colored gems are a common type of fashion accessory for witches on the Boiling Isles. Some can serve as a visual indicator of their physical status, including monitoring witches with a curse.

Another example of gems used as a functional magical object are concealment stones, which, in addition to their use as a method of concealing ones appearance, can also be worn as a stylistic accessory.

Although witches are known for being magic users, Hunter initially claimed to come from a family of witches who lacked any magical power. However, it is later revealed that Hunter is both a grimwalker and a clone of the human Caleb Wittebane, which may explain his lack of magical abilities. Because of these revelations, it is unknown if powerless witches actually exist.

Some demons in the biped category, like Tinella Nosa, have bile sacs that help them to perform magic in the same fashion that witches do.

The Clawthorne family is descended from Caleb Wittebane and a witch named Evelyn. This suggests that humans and witches are capable of having children together.

5. #5Hexside School of Magic and Demonics

Keys: of Magic and Demonics, School, Hexside

One of the Boiling Isles' local schools for witches, demons, and magic folk. Hexside School of Magic and Demonics is located on the west side of the Boiling Isles, near Bonesborough. The standard school uniform is a gray tunic and the color of the sleeves and leggings vary depending on which coven track a student belongs to.

Hexside was founded and built on the bones of a rival school, when it was conquered by Principal Bump and other students. Hexside is funded by Emperor Belos and the Emperor's Coven.

Though currently unconfirmed, it is suggested that attendance to schools like Hexside is a requirement, due to the system in place. Hexside teaches witches from a young age up until adolescence, and as such includes a kindergarten section of the school for younger witches.

Incoming students must take a placement exam to determine their academic level at Hexside. Students who have yet to master basic runes and a minimum of two spells are placed in the school's kindergarten, or "baby class".

Subjects: Being a school of magic, multiple subjects are taught at Hexside over multiple grades. Those just starting are often taught the basic essentials, such as learning how to read and write runes, while those higher up learn more complex topics such as the "heximal system".

As Bump recalls, the school once used a "Choosy Hat" to determine which track a new admission would follow, though this practice was suspended after the hat had attacked a student. The relic was subsequently restrained and kept on the campus, though it occasionally escapes.

Hexside has nine individual scholastic tracks. These tracks pertained to the main nine covens and thus categories of magic, which they are eventually expected to choose between at the end of their education; Bard, Beast Keeping, Potion, Plant, Illusion, Healing, Oracle, Abomination, and Construction. Prior to Luz's admission to the school, students were only allowed to study an individual track. However, the dissolution of the coven system following Belos' defeat has given students complete freedom to study however many tracks they wish.

The colors of the sleeves of Hexside students' uniforms indicate which track(s) they belong to, these being:

Red - Bard Orange - Beast keeping Yellow - Potions Green - Plant Light Blue - Illusion Blue - Healing Purple - Oracle Orchid - Abomination Brown - Construction Dark Gray - Detention Light Gray - Undecided; no track selected

Extracurriculars: Hexside maintains an athletic field for the sport of Grudgby. There are also gym classes; one activity being "the Game", which is similar to basketball, but requires throwing members of the opposing team through the nets. Like typical schools, it has extracurricular activities and clubs, such as the Human Appreciation Society, which Gus and Mattholomule attended. Luz has discussed with Amity the idea of starting a book club called the "Azura Club" as well. Later, at the Club Fair, The Good Witch Azura club had been formed.

Discipline: If a student is causing trouble at school, guards send them to a detention room, where students are encased in blue cocoons surrounded by giant serpentine creatures to put them in a trance until they learn and/or are hypnotized to behave.

Troublemakers are put in the Detention Track, where they aren't allowed to use magic; Bump implied this is due to the fact that the aforementioned detention room "still needs repairs". Unbeknownst to most of the faculty, the room where this track is held has secret access to the Secret Room of Shortcuts, which in turn has access to the entire school, enabling inmates to secretly listen in on every class in the school. The room was built by "Lord Calamity", who is revealed to be Eda herself.

Bump also threatened to feed Luz to the Choosy Hat for causing trouble, though this was likely in jest.

6. #6Bonesborough

   Keys: town, Bonesborough

Bonesborough is a large town found on the Boiling Isles. It is the neighboring town to the Owl House, where a variety of creatures live.

Bonesborough is a dense, medieval-style town surrounded by bone mountains and forests, with two large green arms looming over it. The houses are made of wood and stone, and can be up to four-stories high; some houses are built on the side of a cliff or on the green arms. Some houses also have monster-like architecture, donning a scary appearance with either bones, eyes, teeth, hands or a mixture. Many stone pathways intersect the narrow walls of the town. Bonesborough's more notable buildings have a gothic appearance, being made of stone and the windows are made of stained glass.

Places of interest -The Market Place: The city's main center of commerce and trade. This open air market contains the following establishments: -Kitty Cafe (Roselle and Dottie, proprietors) -Mr. Elixir (Morton, proprietor) -Knife Sharpener -Just Skulls 2 (est 1215) -Mystery Bags -Li'l Blob's Big Blobs -The Dollhouse -Snack Shack -Teeth Emporium -Teleport Scrolls -Harmony Crystals -Giant Poison Berries -Aberrant Meat -Ill Fortune -Arms and Armo -Blessed Rocks -Cursed Paintings -Sacrifices -Necro Mincer -Gourdbeast Eggs -Misfortune Teller -Self Storage -Curiosities (formerly Atrocities) -Grimgrub's Pub -Axe Me Anythin' -Fangs 'n' Thangs -Sentient Teeth -Bones Appetit -The Book Nook -Skin N' Linen

Covention Center: Once a year, a covention is held here to introduce new witches to all the different covens. It also hosts other events too, such as Alchemists Anonymous. Unlike most convention centers, it has an arena primarily used for witch duels. Mr. Elixir: A potion stand owned by Morton. It is Eda's main supplier for her elixir. Grimgrub's Pub: The town's local pub which sells alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, complete with mounted trophies of various creatures. Night Market: An after-hours market that sells illicit items. A tip-off from Morton brings Eda and King here for more elixir. Tibbles runs a stand here, which is accidentally destroyed by a possessed Hooty. Bonesborough Library: The city's local library. It is pretty much like any average library, except that its books are enchanted and can levitate. Amity Blight volunteers here and even has a hiding place behind one of the bookshelves. On the night of the Wailing Star, items and characters in the books can come to life and affect the physical world. Cathedral: A massive cathedral-like building sits in the center of the city. The Slayground: A typical playground for the children in the city. In addition to monster-themed equipment, it has a sandbox with -purple tentacles emerging from it. -Dead Man's Curve: A dangerous stone road high above the town. -Police Precinct 128: The police station of Bonesborough, formerly run by the Emperor's Coven and local guards to hold prisoners before they were sent to the Conformatorium. -Witch Arena: Witch Arena is a gathering place located on the highest point of the Boiling Isles known as the Knee. Set within the ruins of a castle, groups meet here for rituals and social functions. Luz and Amity come here to learn new spells with the help of Eda, Edric and Emira. -Blight Manor: The home of the Blight family. -Bonesborough Brawl Arena: A large, open-air arena, used for the eponymous annual event.

Bonesborough is one of the towns located on the Boiling Isles, it was peaceful during the Deadwardian Era where witches and demons used magic freely to help others. Until Emperor Belos came, he told the people of the isles that they were using their magic wrong and have anger the Titan, so he told them the safer way to used magic was through the coven system to protect them from the dangers of Wild Magic. In reality, Belos was a human witch hunter named Philip Wittebane who planned to wipe out the people of the Isles. Over the next fifty years, Bonesborough, along with the rest of the Isles, became a dystopian state wherein Witches and Demons are forced into covens. Following Belos' defeat and the dismantling of the coven system, Bonesborough is a self-governed town.

Trivia -The name "Bonesborough" is a combination of the word "bones" and the suffix "-borough", which is a term for self-governed towns surrounded by walls or forts. This makes Bonesborough literally "a town surrounded by bones". -Bonesborough is located on the Titan's right arm.

7. #7Covens

   Keys: Coven, track, system

The Coven System was a system instituted on the Boiling Isles by Emperor Belos for categorizing magic into specific types called covens. Belos categorized them so in the far future he could initiate his plan to destroy the Boiling Isles. There were nine main covens with hundreds of other covens beneath them. The educational system trained young witches along scholastic tracks that prepared them for membership in their chosen coven.

To the general public, the purpose of the covens' introduction was on the Titan's command, who communicated through Belos, and to protect the witches and demons from the "danger" of wild magic (which in actuality is simply magic in its natural state). However, these claims were later revealed to be nothing more than an intricate series of lies concocted by Belos, whose true identity was a human witch hunter from the Human Realm named Philip Wittebane, to earn the trust of the Boiling Isles, which paved the way for his plot of genocide of all magic-kind.

After the Collector's redemption and Belos' defeat, the coven system was effectively dissolved, leaving any and all witches free to pursue whatever magic they so choose.

A coven was made up of witches who specialized in a specific form of magical abilities. A coven membership was mandatory, and failure to join a coven was a high-order criminal offense, potentially resulting in certification. Those who left a coven (even by involuntary separation) would receive the same sentence. It is known that people who failed to join a coven prior to the Day of Unity had reportedly gone missing. It was also possible for a witch to be bound forcibly to a coven without their consent.

Although the coven system is dissolved, Young witches are encouraged to study under one of the main nine magic tracks. There were nine main covens in total, and if one of the main nine was not to one's liking, there were more to choose from. Most witches joined a coven when they graduated from school (usually around 17-18 years of age), though exceptionally talented witches were able to leave school and join a coven early.

When a witch joined a coven, their arm was branded with the coven's sigil, and all of their magic was sealed off except the magic of their chosen coven. While a witch would be unable to perform magic outside their specialty, they would still be able to perform general spells such as levitation magic, albeit with greater difficulty. Some covens were more highly regarded than others, and the highest-ranking coven in the Coven System was the Emperor's Coven, the only coven whose members were allowed to use all kinds of magic. Active membership in a coven was usually not required as long as a witch was branded. The branding was permanent and couldn't be removed by means other than amputation or special tech, although Alador Blight recently created a method to remove them with the aid of Healing magic.

The brands had a secondary effect. In addition to stopping a witch from performing magic outside their chosen coven, the brands could encase the witch in branch-like tendrils and place them in a form of stasis. The brands also served a function for the Day of Unity, where they acted as a means to Draining Magic (something which was inspired by the magic-draining abilities of basilisks) from witches and transfer it to the nine coven heads.

Three years after the Day of Unity, a method of removing the brands was discovered by Alador Blight, utilizing a glove-like device fueled by large amounts of healing magic.

Coven Heads and relics Hunting Palismen - Coven Heads The nine Head Witches of the coven system.

Each of the nine covens was led by a powerful witch known as a "Coven Head" or "Head Witch" who excelled at one of the nine main types of magic. These respective witches studied at some of the most prestigious magic schools such as Glandus High, St. Epiderm, and Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. Each of the leaders of the main nine covens possesses a medallion of their coven's color with their coven symbol on the front. They are responsible for recruiting new members into their respective covens and play an integral role in Emperor Belos' Day of Unity.

After assuming the identity of the witch Belos, Philip Wittebane hatched a plan that would end with the death of all witches. One of the biggest parts of his plan was the implementation of coven sigils and brands that restrict the use of magic, and serve as a means to drain said magic from them. To do this, he teamed up with a being called the Collector, and in exchange for the teaching of the Draining Spell, Philip would set the Collector free from their prison. However, Philip had no intention of keeping his end of the bargain, secretly planning to betray the Collector once the final steps of his plan were set in motion.

During the tail end of the Savage Ages, Philip, under the guise of Belos, claimed that wild magic was dangerous and angered the Titan, destroying his own family in the process, and he publicly proposed the separation of magic into nine distinct covens based on the hues of the "healing light." To further boost his message, the future Emperor used fearmongering, and orchestrated the destruction of cities, claiming it was the work of wild magic. Witches who listened to Belos were marked with coven brands, though the earliest known usage of the brands left the witches branded in an unconscious but still-living state.

In the present day, prior to Belos' defeat, the Boiling Isles culture and entire education system revolved around young witches joining one of the main nine covens. Any witches that were not in a coven were labeled as criminals and could be forced to join one against their will. While coven membership was mandated for adults, younger witches would usually not be branded until graduating high school. However, as the Day of Unity drew near, Belos started to push for younger witches to be forcibly branded. However, this approach was met with bitter resistance from the students and faculty of Hexside and could not be carried out successfully.

After Belos was defeated, the Coven System was permanently dismantled, with wild magic being taught freely and practiced normally. Three years after Belos' destruction, on the day of Luz's eighteenth birthday, the Abomination scientist, Alador Blight, created a device utilizing large amounts of healing magic to permanently remove the coven sigils from all branded witches and demons on the Isles, thus granting a means to ending the remnants of the Coven System.

   Main covens

Emperor's Coven While not considered one of the "main nine" covens, the Emperor's Coven is considered to be the most prestigious and highly ranked coven in the coven system and its members serve as law enforcement on behalf of the emperor's will. Membership of the Emperor's Coven is made up of some of the most talented witches on the isles, and unlike other covens, those inducted into the emperor's retained all their magic. It was completely disbanded following Belos' defeat. Color: Gold Sigil: Winged sword and shield in a triangle Former Coven Leaders: Lilith Clawthorne (defected), Hunter (defected)

Abomination Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Abomination Coven and the still-taught Abomination track focuses on the creation and utilization of purple ooze golems known as abominations. Witches formerly in the Abomination Coven and Abomination track students can create, summon, and control abominations to do their bidding, and more powerful witches can even use abomination matter to create constructs or even assume an abomination-based form. While stranded on Earth, Amity was able to substitute mud for abomination goo. According to Willow Park, the abomination track has been noted for opening more opportunities for a witch's future. Color: Orchid Sigil: Abomination head Former Coven Leader: Darius Deamonne

Bard Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Bard Coven and the still-taught Bard track focuses on manipulating the world around them using soundwaves. Bards can use sound to create a variety of effects, such as inducing sleepiness, taking control of witches listening to their music, creating small-scale storms, creating concussive or slashing shockwaves, and even changing the chemistry of liquids. However, some bard spells can be countered by wearing ear coverings. Though bards typically use musical instruments, it is also possible to use bard magic through whistling. As musicians, bard witches have been known to make public performances, making it a difficult, but not impossible track for those with stage fright. Prejudice against bards has been noted due to incredulity that bard magic can be strong and useful compared to the other covens. Color: Red Sigil: Lyre Former Coven Leader: Raine Whispers

Beast Keeping Coven The Beast Keeping Coven focuses on the taming and control of the various beasts on the Boiling Isles. Beast keepers are able to command the various creatures on the Isles, summon beasts, and grant themselves bestial traits. Color: Orange Sigil: Hatching egg Former Coven Leader: Eberwolf

Construction Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Construction Coven and the still-taught Construction track focuses on creating earth-based constructs and various construction projects on the Isles. Former Construction Coven witches and Construction track students can create tools, pillars, statues, and other structures using earth. Additionally, they are allowed to use magic adhesive stickers bearing their sigils known as power glyphs to boost their strength and magic. Color: Brown Sigil: Cracked fist Former Coven Leader: Mason

Healing Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Healing Coven and the still-taught Healing track specializes in dealing with medicine and healthcare. Healers can treat a variety of injuries and ailments and appear to use healing glyphs to deal with long-term injuries. Witches in the coven can also create shields and projectiles and use them at their own will. Color: Blue Sigil: Bandaged hand Former Coven Leader: Hettie Cutburn

Illusion Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Illusion Coven and the still-taught Illusion track specializes in deception and showmanship to trick the senses of other witches. Illusionists can create clones and alter their appearances, and powerful illusionists like Gus can even cast somewhat tangible illusions over a large area. Illusion magic is the only magic that cannot be enhanced by Galdorstones; consequentially, illusionists are often tasked with guarding them. Prejudice against illusionists has been noted due to their spells lacking a true physical effect. Like Oracle magic, Illusion magic can create energy constructs and mentally affect opponents, seeing as Adrian Graye Vernworth once tried to read Gus' memories. Color: Light blue Sigil: Mirror Former Coven Leader: Adrian Graye Vernworth

Oracle Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Oracle Coven and the still-taught Oracle track focuses on fortune-telling, spirits, and various mind-based magics. Oracles can use their magic to tell the future, look into distant locations, and use their crystal balls for various purposes, such as telepathic communication, launching a blast of dark purple fire, sinking into a mobile shadow on the ground, summoning spirit entities of either fire or shadow, or creating large psychic energy constructs like a giant hand or a giant energy dome. Crystal balls can come in various sizes; some can even be small enough to be the charm on a necklace. An oracle's magic can be disabled by breaking their method of control, such as their crystal ball. Color: Purple Sigil: Eye Former Coven Leader: Osran

Plant Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Plant Coven and still-taught Plant track specializes in the various flora on the Boiling Isles. Former Plant Coven witches and Plant track students can command the flora around them as well as manipulate vines and accelerate plant growth. They can also make flowers bloom and unleash poisonous plants. Color: Green Sigil: Flower Former Coven Leader: Terra Snapdragon

Potions Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Potions Coven and the still-taught Potion track focuses on brewing various potions. Former Potions Coven witches and Potion track students are able to brew a variety of potions with different effects, ranging from fog brews, explosive potions, elixirs that can keep curses at bay, and even brews that can bring inanimate objects to life. Unlike the other tracks, potion witches do not need magic to brew potions; however, having magic does aid in collecting ingredients from dangerous creatures, and some potions may require a magic source to activate. Potions also seem to be able to replicate spells and bodily functions such as putting targets to sleep and acidic qualities. Color: Yellow Sigil: Potion bottle Former Coven Leader: Vitimir

8. #8Shortcut Room (Hexside)

Keys: Secret Room of Shortcuts, Shortcut Room

The Secret Room of Shortcuts is a room within Hexside School of Magic and Demonics filled with numerous doors and windows that lead to different locations in the school. The room is tall and roughly octagonal in shape, with walls that have the same gray-brick appearance as the rest of Hexside. A ramp spirals along the wall from the floor to the ceiling. The floor, walls, and ceiling are covered with trapdoors, front doors, and windows—all of varying shapes, sizes, and colors.

9. #9The Owl House

   Keys: Owl House

Located in the Demon Realm on cliffs outside Bonesborough. It is owned Eda Clawthorne and inhabited by Luz and King. The house is Hooty himself and, for the most part, is controlled by him. The Owl House is a large house made from white brick with a sloping blue roof. A stained glass window above the door gives the impression of a large orange demon eye. A crumbling stone tower with orange moss growing on it is located to the rear left of the house. While the exterior is of limited size, the Owl House appears to be much bigger on the inside, containing a number of rooms, corridors, and storage spaces. The house seems to consist of a basement and three stories.

Basement: This appears to be where random unused objects of the Owl House are stored. The floor consists of a trap door that leads to a massive tunnel.

Ground floor -The Living Room: Located right behind the front door. It includes a fireplace facing opposite two couches, candles, a wall of artifacts, and Eda's wanted poster, and artwork of an owl creature on the ceiling. -The Kitchen: Found at the back of the house. A huge window gives a view of the land behind the house, with a door leading outside. The kitchen itself has a table, a refrigerator, a range, and shelves lined with various objects. -The Shed: Connected to the side of the house underneath a low part of the roof. This is primarily used for storage, including piles of logs and sealed chests and pots.

Second floor -Luz's Room: Once a storage closet, now a comfy hideout. Luz has made this room her own with the few possessions she brought from the human realm - and lots of Eda's stuff.

Top floor -Eda's Room: Located at the front of the house where the owl-eye-shaped window is. Instead of a bed, Eda sleeps in a nest littered with bones and human junk. -The Bathroom: A standard house bathroom, behind a purple door with a sign saying "Ladies (and King)". It is located at the end of the same hallway that Eda's room is connected to. -The Balcony: Made from a short stone tower built into the side of the house, this can be accessed on the upper floor via a large rectangular cutout in the wall of Eda's room. It allows for a good view of the Boiling Isles.

10. #10Owl Beast

    Keys: Owl Beast

The Owl Beast is the mysterious entity that serves as the avatar of its own curse. It inhabits those afflicted with its curse, often appearing to its victims within their subconsciousness, and is capable of taking over their physical form, turning them into a monstrous, owl-like creature. The Owl Beast, true to its name, is a robust, quadrupedal creature with an owl-like appearance. It has a thick coat of dirty gray down feathers, large wings, bird-like legs, and long tail feathers. Its head resembles that of a barn owl's, featuring a heart-shaped white face with hollow black eyes and a small beak. In the mindscape, it has a staggering height that dwarfs Eda.

The Owl Beast was once a living creature being relentlessly pursued by a collector, who reduced it to a curse bound to a scroll. The cursed scroll then washed up on the shores of the Boiling Isles, where it was found by a merchant who took it to the Night Market. Many years later, a witch named Lilith Clawthorne purchased the scroll for its ability to nullify magic and placed the spell upon Eda. She believed the curse would only last for a day, in order to ensure her chances of winning their duel for the Emperor's Coven, but because of the curse's more harmful effects, the Owl Beast's consciousness bound itself to Eda's and transformed her into the monster.

Being imprisoned within Eda's body, the Owl Beast granted no rest for the young witch and haunted her in her dreams, where the beast made itself known to her. Whenever its host experiences great stress, the beast would take over. When the witches of the Beast Keeping Coven deemed the curse untamable, and witches of the Healing Coven could not remove the beast from Eda, combined with the trauma she gained after accidentally attacking her own father as the Owl Beast, Eda ran away from home, determined to overcome the curse on her own.[1] As the years passed, Eda would endure the harrowing presence of the Owl Beast, while her beastly transformation would come to define her as the aptly-named "Owl Lady." Eventually, Eda began taking an elixir to keep the effects of her curse at bay.

While dating Raine Whispers, Eda downplayed the symptoms of her curse, opting to lie and say that she was fine despite the contrary. This prompted Raine to reluctantly break up with Eda. Due to the stress of the situation, the Owl Beast slowly began to take over. Instead of seeking Raine's help, Eda pushed her ex aside and claimed that she was fine. Because of these traumatic memories, as well as Eda's perception that the curse had ruined her life, Eda and the Owl Beast would share a mutual dislike of each other, and the Owl Lady would isolate herself and close off from others throughout her life due to the danger of the curse.

Although the two considered the other to be in a mutual dislike, Eda never realized that the Owl Beast was just as trapped with her as she was with it, a fact that initially made the Owl Beast seem like a vicious and mindless monster. The elixirs eventually stopped working, and her magic faded faster, before she finally succumbed to the beast after using her remaining magic to save Luz's life. However, its effects on Eda finally faded in the aftermath of Luz's rescue, when Lilith cast a spell to share the curse with Eda, thus splitting the curse evenly between them, although this effectively drained Lilith's magic as well, rendering the two once powerful witches powerless. However, the elixir did start working on the curse again, making it much more manageable.

In an attempt to help her recover from recent stress, Hooty tricks Eda into eating cookies laced with sleeping nettles in the hope that she will finally get rest, as stress aggravates her curse. Hooty, however, did not consider that sleeping nettles intensify the dreams of the consumer, and Eda starts experiencing nightmares centered around her past traumatic memories. Finally, Eda faces the Owl Beast in a fight and blames the creature for ruining her life. She then penetrates the memories of the Owl Beast, learning of its past and what the collector did to the creature.

Eda takes pity on the beast after she realizes that it was also a victim of the curse and that it longed for its freedom from her just as much as she wanted freedom from it. Realizing that they are trapped together and that their suffering will never end if they continue to be in constant opposition, Eda proposes a truce between the both of them, at least for the time being. The Owl Beast agrees, and when Eda finally reawakens, it works together with Eda as opposed to taking full control, causing Eda to transform into an avian humanoid form, like a harpy in appearance.

Later, when searching for Titan's Blood for Luz, the Owl Beast negotiates a deal with Eda to allow her to transform into the harpy form at any time. However, this ability is linked to a condition; Eda's part of the deal is to hunt and eat wild animals (such as voles) for the Owl Beast, which she reluctantly agrees to.

Powers and abilities -Owl physiology: Being an owl-based creature, the Owl Beast can fly, screech like an owl, and create owl pellets in its host's transformed state. -Transmogrification: As a curse, the Owl Beast transforms its host into an avian monster that bears a likeness to the creature itself. It is also able to transform its host into an avian humanoid form, like a harpy in appearance. -Possession: When its host is in their transformed state, the Owl Beast usually has full control of its host's mind and consciousness. Under said influence, the host is reduced to a feral beast that attacks and devours anything in sight. However, if the host regains their consciousness, they can fight the Owl Beast's influence and regain control even in their cursed form. If the Owl Beast allows it, the host can also remain conscious during the transformation. -Magic nullification: The Owl Beast can negate its host's magic supply, rendering them unable to cast effective spells. This comes into effect whenever the curse manifests, regardless of whether the host is partially or fully transformed or splitting the curse's power.

11. #11Conformatorium

    Keys: jail, prison, Conformatorium

The Conformatorium was a prison facility located on the Boiling Isles and operated under the imperial authority of the defunct Emperor's Coven. It served as a place of incarceration for those who did not conform to the norms of society, possibly due to Belos' want for control over the Boiling Isles. It was presided over by Warden Wrath and staffed by imperial guards, such as Coven Guards and Coven Scouts. In addition to prisoners, the Conformatorium was also used to store contraband materials behind a barrier penetrable only by humans.

Following Belos' defeat, the Conformatorium is assumed to be used as a normal prison facility.

12. #12Glyphs

Keys: fire glyph, glyphs, light glyph, plant glyph, ice glyph, glyph

The only form of magic usable by humans. An alternate form of magic manifests as that of symbols known as glyphs. Glyph magic originates from an ancient race known as Titans. Each individual Titan was capable of creating their own unique form of glyph magic, with The Boiling Isles' Titan's glyphs formerly being the only ones remaining after the eradication of the titan race, still functioning due to half-alive state and thus his remaining power.

As a human, Luz Noceda lacks a bile sac and thus does not carry a natural reservoir of magical power within her. To compensate, she instead draws in the magic from the environment and the Titan through the use of his glyphs. The glyphs appeared to Luz in the environment but did not exist there naturally, and were instead placed by the Titan. As revealed, the Titan only shows his magic to select individuals whom he favors, Luz being one of them. The Titan also implicitly deliberately hid his magic from Philip Wittebane for years.

Currently, there are four confirmed glyphs: light, ice, plant, and fire. While it is implied that these are the only four possible glyphs, there are infinitely many ways to combine the existing glyphs to create more complex spells. However, complex spells require the glyphs to be arranged in specific patterns connected in a circular pattern by lines. Performing glyph magic effectively requires that both the glyph is drawn accurately enough and that the caster has specific intent for the glyph's action when they activate it. Accordingly, the larger the glyph, the larger effect the spell has.

Unlike bile sacs, glyphs do not contain their own magic; rather, they command the magic present in their respective titan. Glyph magic is usable by anyone in the Demon Realm. While glyphs cannot work alone in the human realm, they can be powered if within range of a source of their respective titan's power, such as their blood, even if that distance is hundreds of feet away. The further one is from a source of blood, however, the weaker and less stable the glyphs become until they malfunction and don't produce an effect beyond destroying themselves; getting even further away will only cause partial self-destruction such as burning away some lines until eventually, the glyphs will become completely inert.

The glyphs act as a language that commands the magic present in the environment of the Boiling Isles (and thus the magical power present in the individual glyph set's founding titan) in order to cast spells. It is for this reason that glyph combos are arranged as a sequence that individually activates each glyph, and this is also why attempting to overlap or incorrectly drawing the glyphs can cause unintended or even disastrous results, as demonstrated when Eda creates an expanding, spiky mass of ice when attempting to make a "super-glyph" combining all of the glyphs into one.

Glyphs when drawn on paper consume the paper they are drawn on, but if drawn on something larger like the ground or a wall will not consume it, and instead, the glyph itself will simply disappear. They have harmful effects if drawn or tattooed onto a living being due to glyphs requiring energy to cast spells. This is seen when Philip Wittebane tries to give himself magic by carving them into his arm but ends up damaging part of his body in the process.

Performing glyph magic effectively requires that both the glyph is drawn accurately enough, and that the caster know what they need the glyph to do when they activate it, else they will receive underwhelming and/or unintended results. Glyphs can also sometimes generate spell circles themselves when cast. It has been shown that this can be used in order to have a spell active not where the glyph was placed, but to a nearby location the caster wants the spell to be, such as when Luz used a plant glyph to make a tower of vines underneath her instead of where the glyph was placed in front of her, the glyph forming a spell circle connecting to it around Luz. Furthermore, although usually they need to be placed on an object to directly affect it (rather than indirectly, such as launching ice at something instead of freezing it), there are cases where a glyph only needs to be activated in an object's vicinity to have its magic affect it, such as when Luz heated and melted a metal grate with a fire glyph by activating it in front of the grate rather than placing the glyph on it.

Given that Amity, King, and Eda reacted with curiosity and wonder upon seeing Luz casting magic through glyphs, such practice had apparently become a lost knowledge sometime prior to her arrival in the Demon Realm, either forgotten or rendered obsolete in the light of the discovery of more efficient methods. One such method is through drawing power from the magic bile sac attached to a witch's heart, a method exclusive to witches and biped demons of Boiling Isles — without it, one must improvise by either actually drawing a picture of the glyph for the desired spell, or by using a training wand or similar device.

Since glyphs draw magic from the environment, they are ineffective in the Human Realm due to there being no magic around to harness. However, Luz discovers that glyphs specifically are powered by the Titan itself and being within range of Titan's Blood, even if that distance is hundreds of feet away, can allow a person to perform glyph magic in the human realm. However, the further a person gets from the blood, the weaker and less stable the glyph spells become, until eventually they don't produce an effect beyond destroying themselves; getting even further away will only cause partial self-destruction such as burning away some lines, until eventually the glyphs will become completely inert. There are two exceptions to sources of Titan's Blood that do not empower glyphs in the Human Realm; King and the Portal Key, though why that is has not been stated.

The Light Glyph is a glyph originating from the magic of Titans capable of generating light in various forms. The Titan's light glyph is the first form of magic learned of by Luz Noceda. Appearance: A line stretches from the bottom of the spell circle to about two-thirds up. A perfectly horizontal line connects two sides of the circle, one-third up from the bottom of the circle. The ends of the horizontal line are connected to the top of the vertical line. Two slanted bars cut through the vertical line just above the horizontal line. In the space between the top of the vertical line and the top of the circle, a circle that doesn't reach the top and two tangents from the circle to the top finish the glyph. Effect: The light glyph generates a floating sphere of light that may also consume material from the surface it was placed on. When drawn on paper, this light orb is notably suspended in the air, but it can be moved by gentle pushes of air, thus serving as mobile lighting. The spell can also create an intense flash of light, which increases depending on how large the glyph is made. Luz's fight with Lilith shows that two light glyphs can fire a beam of lightning, and once had a drawn glyph set a script on fire with yellow flames before releasing a flash of light. Luz can cast the spell by drawing this glyph on a material surface. Luz can change the power of the spell by changing the size of the glyph much as other witches change the size of their spell circle. Luz has since advanced her skill with the spell, having learned how to create light circuits, flashing lights, and even images with light that can be animated.

The Ice Glyph is a spell that generates ice. It's the second spell and second glyph learned of by Luz Noceda. Appearance: The ice glyph takes the shape of a kite with a line down its center, sitting on a horizontal line across the lower third of the circle. A curved line from the two center points on either side of the kite curves through it in a bow shape. Sometimes, a small diamond is included at the bottom, which will change the effect of the glyph. The small diamond can also be replaced by a triangle. Effect: When activated, the glyph summons a pillar of ice from the surface on which the glyph is set. The ice glyph can also be attached to objects such as weapons, enabling them to create ice on impact. The diameter, height, and speed of growth of the pillar are dependent upon the size of the glyph. Combining multiple ice glyphs results in more refined and specific ice creations such as ice popsicles, crowns, and sculptures.

The Plant Glyph is a spell that summons plants. It is the third glyph discovered by Luz Noceda. Appearance: The glyph resembles a flower. Inside the spell circle is a small circle with a dot at its center, near but not touching the bottom of the spell circle. There are two short lines stretching from the top of the smaller circle facing out at 45º angles. A triangle is roughly opposite the small circle, with one vertex facing the smaller circle. A line stretches from the triangle's tip to the circle. There is a horizontal line across the middle of the triangle. Effect: When activated, this glyph causes the growth of different plants from the glyph itself or whatever the glyph is attached to. The effects of this glyph range widely, being able to conjure trees, shrubs, vines, and flowers, all seemingly based on the user's intent.

The Fire Glyph is a spell that generates fire. It's the fourth spell discovered by Luz Noceda. Appearance: The glyph for this spell features a larger circle at the bottom of the spell circle with a dot in the center. On top is a smaller circle with a curved triangle on top. Another curved triangle is also included on top of the bigger circle, which goes over the smaller circle. The dot may be omitted. It is unknown how this changes, if it does, the effect of the glyph. Effect: When it is cast, it conjures up a ball of fire. If the glyph is on the surface of an object, it will set that object on fire.

13. #13Spell Circle

    Keys: spell, circle

The Spell Circle is the most common form of magic utilization among witches on the Boiling Isles. This spell is the conduit to accessing all known spells. To create a spell circle, a witch simply needs to draw a glowing circle in the air, from which the desired spell is cast. The size of the circle drawn determines the power of the spell; the larger the spell circle, the more powerful the spell. Some spells, such as certain illusion spells shown by Gus, require the circle to be repeatedly retraced, either to charge up the spell before casting or in order to maintain the spell. This is usually done with two hands so as to not break the circle and has been shown to be possible with multiple circles at once, such as three, and the fingers need not necessarily trace the active spell circle themselves, merely make repeated circular gestures in the air in front of the caster. However, this version of retracing circles appears to be rather difficult and requires great focus in maintaining, suggesting it is an advanced method.

The circle can be drawn with a fingertip, a sweeping gesture of the hands, a tracing motion with the feet, a training wand, or the end of a witch's staff. A witch can also create additional spell circles from their existing active circle by doing a pulling apart gesture, which causes the active circle to briefly stretch before forming an exact copy. Another method of casting multiple iterations of a spell is by creating a single spell circle, then slapping it with the palm of the hand. The witch then sweeps their hand, which creates multiple identical spell circles.

It has been shown to be possible to create spell circles without needing to draw them, allowing for potent but simple spells to be cast by simply pointing and allowing a small spell circle to use the finger as its center or by allowing the circle to expand outwards from the fingertip to create larger spell circles.

Another method of non-drawing exists that allows for the creation of larger, stronger spell circles, which is performed by bringing two fingers close together without touching and then pulling the arms apart to allow the circle to expand between them as wide as can be reached - with the two fingers being on opposite sides of the now-formed circle. It is also possible to only draw the spell circle partially through a trick where the witch draws part of a larger spell circle, then shrinking the circle while it is being drawn and causing the longer magic line to fill in the now-smaller circle. It has also been shown to be possible to have the magic line of the spell circle to leak off its energy as it is being drawn or after in order for a second, slightly smaller spell circle to be made within it, creating a concentric spell circle drawn with two lines instead of one; this is an indication of potentially a powerful spell, such as those that are fatal to the target, or already-powerful ones further enhanced by magic-amplifying items.

Two and possibly more witches can cooperatively draw a single spell circle together. Witches can also put the circle through an object or person for self-defense and can also use the circle as a bracelet around their wrists to allow repeated casting of a chosen spell of a certain strength. Furthermore, a circle is not necessarily fixed in place in the air or on an object once drawn and can be moved with a gesture from the witch either to better aim a spell, to cast it on an object, or to spread the spell over an area. This is sometimes done by grabbing it or condensing it to a point or ball at the fingertips before aiming and expanding it elsewhere, enclosing the hand around it before throwing it into the air, or when using a spinning staff to draw to simply move the staff while it spins. In contrast, a spell circle may also be fixed in place, not in the air, but in relative position to the witch caster; a spell circle drawn in front of a witch running forward will remain steady and move forward at the same distance it was drawn.

Likewise, their size is also not fixed when drawn, and a witch can either condense it or enlarge it to a different within only a couple seconds after being drawn before it is cast, seemingly without any additional gestures. One method of this that does use gestures is if a witch cannot draw a large enough spell circle due to their arm's reach, where they can increase the size of a drawn spell circle by putting the hands into the circle and pushing outwards, which will cause the spell to grow for as long as the witch can reach.[12] Another method of growing a circle is to draw two smaller circles, then place them near each when casting a spell, causing them to merger and form a larger circle performing a powerful spell. Similarly, another method of creating a larger spell circle involves having a smaller spell circle active as a bracelet around the wrist, then slamming a hand onto the ground, causing a larger circle to quickly expand outwards around the user to cast a powerful spell, possibly used as a method of making a pre-set spell in the bracelet more powerful without needing to redraw the circle at a greater size.

A spell circle requires magical energy in order to function. This means that the caster must either have their own supply of magical energy, such as the magic bile sac attached to a witch's heart, or the caster must be on the Boiling Isles or another magical place to directly access the fallen Titan's power in the air.

Although it is the case for almost all witches to require drawing a spell circle, there are very rare cases where a witch's magic in a particular area is so naturally strong that they can cast said magic without a spell circle. This is usually not consciously activated, but can be controlled with practice, and is done so in periods of great emotion like anger or stress, causing the witch's eyes to glow in a bright color that corresponds to their natural affinity, such as Willow with plant magic (green), Gus with illusion magic (light blue), or Alador with abomination magic (orchid). This glow appears to have different levels of intensity, shown either to only cause the iris to glow, to have the whole eye glow but having the pupil and iris still be visible, having the whole eye glow but having the iris and pupil only appear as discs of white light, or having the whole eye glow to where no pupil or iris is visible. Such witches are usually considered prodigies in their fields.

14. #14Abomination (Magic Track and Coven)

    Keys: Abomination

An abomination is a magical golem-like creature typically made from a purple ooze-like substance. They are created by witches to complete various tasks. Abominations have a crude humanoid appearance and behavior. Their bodies have such a very poor structure that makes maintaining a consistent form a struggle. Most abominations fall apart easily, but witches with stronger magic can keep the abomination stabilized and make it larger and more durable in combat. Abominations that exhibit an overly disproportionate appearance or have multiple limbs or appendages where there shouldn't be are deemed as failures. Created by animating/reanimated matter, abominations serve as labor on the Boiling Isles. Their low sentience ensures abominations will recognize and obey the commands of their summoner without developing any rebellious tendencies. Though abominations fall apart easily, they can easily reform themselves, allowing them to perform dangerous tasks with minimal risk. However, Incident #3421 of Eda's Hexside write-ups indicates that abominations can gain full sapience and revolt against their creators. Multiple abominations can also combine into a single form to increase their size and power. The Abomination Coven specializes in abomination conjuring. The abomination track is highly regarded at Hexside and across the Isles and affords those on it greater opportunities for success upon graduation. Witches in this track start out by making their own abomination as a class assignment before moving into more complex usages. In combat, abominations are often commanded to fight in their summoner's stead. Highly skilled abomination witches can effectively weaponize abomination matter to enhance their combat skills and are able to create constructs, weapons, and shields to aid them in combat. The former Abomination Coven Head, Darius Deamonne, can turn himself into an abomination at will and can use abomination matter to teleport himself and/or others. One notable witch, Alador Blight, has managed to integrate abominations into his products at Blight Industries such as Abomination-based crossbows and guns. He was capable of even engineering the Abomaton and the Abomatron, a robotically-enhanced abomination with amazing destruction power.

15. #15Bard (Magic Track and Coven)

    Keys: music, Bard

16. #16Beast Keeper (Magic Track and Coven)

    Keys: Keeping, Beast, Keeper

Beast Keeping Coven The Beast Keeping Coven focuses on the taming and control of the various beasts on the Boiling Isles. Beast keepers are able to command the various creatures on the Isles, summon beasts, and grant themselves bestial traits. Color: Orange Sigil: Hatching egg Former Coven Leader: Eberwolf

17. #17Construction (Magic Track and Coven)

    Keys: Construction

Construction Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Construction Coven and the still-taught Construction track focuses on creating earth-based constructs and various construction projects on the Isles. Former Construction Coven witches and Construction track students can create tools, pillars, statues, and other structures using earth. Additionally, they are allowed to use magic adhesive stickers bearing their sigils known as power glyphs to boost their strength and magic. Color: Brown Sigil: Cracked fist Former Coven Leader: Mason

18. #18Healing (Magic Track and Coven)

    Keys: healer, Healing

Healing Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Healing Coven and the still-taught Healing track specializes in dealing with medicine and healthcare. Healers can treat a variety of injuries and ailments and appear to use healing glyphs to deal with long-term injuries. Witches in the coven can also create shields and projectiles and use them at their own will. Color: Blue Sigil: Bandaged hand Former Coven Leader: Hettie Cutburn

19. #19Illusion (Magic Track and Coven)

    Keys: Illusion, illusionst

20. #20Oracle (Magic Track and Coven)

    Keys: Oracle

21. #21Plant (Magic Track and Coven)

    Keys: Plant

Plant Coven Prior to the coven system being dissolved, the defunct Plant Coven and still-taught Plant track specializes in the various flora on the Boiling Isles. Former Plant Coven witches and Plant track students can command the flora around them as well as manipulate vines and accelerate plant growth. They can also make flowers bloom and unleash poisonous plants. Color: Green Sigil: Flower Former Coven Leader: Terra Snapdragon

22. #22Potions (Magic Track and Coven)

    Keys: Potions

23. #23Hieronymus Bump

    Keys: Hieronymus, Bump

Hieronymus Bump Species: Witch Gender: Male Age: 60+ He is the former principal of Hexside School of Magic and Demonics, who was responsible for the care and maintenance of the facility, as well as the safety, well-being, guidance, and discipline of the student body.

While he is of a stern and intimidating visage, Hieronymus Bump takes his responsibilities toward his former students seriously and genuinely cares for their success within and beyond Hexside.

Bump is presumably an older male witch, judging from the wrinkles surrounding his upper lip, with light-beige skin. He has long black hair, brown eyes but with his left eye sewn shut, and a scar runs down from his upper right scalp. Most of the time, his upper face is obscured by his palisman, an imp named Frewin. He also has the Abomination Coven sigil on his right forearm. Bump wears an orange floral print shirt with rolled-up sleeves, brown pants, a grayish-brown apron with pruning tools in the front pocket and a flower patch with Hooty's face, a light blue gardening glove on his right hand, and muddy blue boots. Frewin, the palisman on his head, covers half of his face, giving him the appearance of being consumed by said palisman. With Frewin on him, Bump has Frewin's eyes, which appear teal with bright yellow sclera.

As a former educator and the former principal of Hexside, Bump is fixated on the progress and well-being of the student body. He has shown a strong interest in the achievements of his students and a drive to have them progress in their field of expertise, such as when he acknowledged Willow's love of plant-based magic and as such had her transferred to the plant magic track. Aside from being a good judge of character, Bump has also demonstrated a stern disciplinary and protective side of his character. Detention at Hexside consisted of brainwashing the students into becoming nicer, and Principal Bump utilized powerful magic to lock down the school if an intruder broke in. Despite these aggressive traits, he is not without a level of reason. He listened to his students when they had misgivings or were suspicious of something out of the ordinary, or if they confessed to any wrongdoing. In the latter part, Bump will accept the apology as long as the said student makes up for their past actions, such as when he had former Hexside student, Eda Clawthorne, clean up after all of her previous pranks and stunts, or when he had Gus renounce his position in the Human Appreciation Society.

Bump's approach to teaching can often be somewhat contradictory. While he is strict and adamant about rules being followed, having insisted that Luz choose one track and stay with it, his method of choosing one for her when she can't decide was rather unorthodox, pointing to the banners depicting them and going: "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe." After the events of Luz's first day, he decided to rethink the rules and let students learn multiple tracks, much to their delight. He is notably much more lax than his predecessor, Principal Faust.

Four years after Belos is defeated, he has retired from his position as principal and has taken up gardening.

24. #24Palisman

    Keys: palismen, staff, palisman

A palisman (plural: palismen) is a sentient magical totem that sits at the top of a magic staff. They are usually made in the shape of an animal of some kind. A palisman contains a magical essence and harbors various magical properties, including the ability to switch between wooden and living forms at will. Palismen can bond to witches, humans, demons, and grimwalker as a loyal companion, a powerful tool for channeling and amplifying their user's magic, and a method of flying transportation when in their wooden staff form. A palisman can also allow an individual with no innate magical ability, such as a human, to use magic, as the palisman has magic essence of its own that its bonded partner can utilize. Palismen are carved from the wood of the ancient Palistrom tree. Traditionally, witches in their teens carve their own palisman and staff from Palistrom wood, at school or with parental supervision as part of their education. Palismen are typically carved in the shape of an animal or living creature, but, alternatively, they can be carved into an egg shape, in which case the palisman itself will develop inside the egg over time and eventually hatch from it once it has established a proper bond with its owner. A newly-carved palisman will not become animate until their owner is able to establish a proper connection with them by expressing their truest and deepest wish to them, which will then cause the palisman to come to life and become bonded. Depending on the person, this ambition ranges to an attainable dream, such as a future occupation, or a deep, personal desire. Sometimes, it might take a while for the person to figure out what their truest wish actually is. While a witch and their palisman are joined by a relationship of affection and mutual respect, a palisman can forfeit its connection and loyalty to its owner and run away if they are mistreated or injured, or if the relationship is harmful to them. A witch can also choose to abandon their palisman if the staff suffers irreparable damage or loss. However, a palisman can return to their witch if the witch proves that they can be trusted again, or if the lost/damaged staff is repaired or replaced. Palistrom trees have become an increasingly rare resource and the ones that are left are heavily guarded, Hexside School of Magic and Demonics arranged to hold a Palisman Adoption Day, wherein the Bat Queen brought in stray palismen she had taken into her care for a chance to be bonded with a new owner. During this process, a young witch will step forward and speak their greatest ambition, and if a palisman is compatible with the emotion of that ambition, they will come forward to meet their new partner. If the individual doesn't know what they truly want, the palismen will sense the lack of conviction and none of them will come forward. Their nature as both living creatures and objects is an interesting case, as while having the ability to turn into an object and can be damaged or cracked, they do have souls. In this sense, they have the properties of a living creature but can also function as an object. Furthermore, the Bat Queen, despite her being a palisman, has had offspring of her own and lives as a well-recognized and prestigious demon. This implies that palismen are capable of living just like every other creature on the Boiling Isles, although this may simply be a consequence of the Bat Queen's unique origin as the palisman of an ancient giant. While palismen can cease to function if damaged beyond repair, it's hinted that palismen have incredibly long lifespans and are capable of living for thousands of years, as is evident by the existence of the Bat Queen. It is unknown if they are effectively immortal in the sense that they don't age. Palismen are loyal to the individuals they are bonded to. Through their connection with their owners, they are able to communicate, as well as channel their magic. They house their own magical essence within their bodies, which is a glowing green substance, and can act as a separate source of magic for witches or biped demons to utilize outside of their own inner magic, which stems from the sac of magic bile connected to their heart. Palismen are capable of employing the magic stored within them as well as the magic present within the individual utilizing them. Any given palisman can connect to their staff via a unique interlock that mates to its own staff only and can disconnect from it at will. While the staff can occasionally manifest as a separate piece, the staff is actually part of the palismen itself and they can manifest and vanish the staff in order to transform between staff form and back. A witch can summon their staff by command, or conjure them from thin air when needed, whether a palisman is present on it or not. All staffs can also be used to fly, making them a witch's main source of transportation. While in flight, a palismen that resembles a winged creature may flap their wings.

25. #25Warden Wrath

    Keys: Wrath, Warden

Warden Wrath Species: Biped Demon Gender: Male Age: Adult As his name suggests, he was the former warden of the Conformatorium. His main goal was initially to capture Eda, whom he has gained a fondness for after trying to capture her. He is the father of Braxas.

Wrath is a humanoid biped demon with pale purple skin and a large, muscular build. Under his mask and hood, he hides a huge mouth of large sharp teeth (with his canines being more prominent), as well as tiny, yellowish-white eyes, which are difficult to see from under his hood. Wrath wears a dark gray cowl with a small gold fasten over a beaked mask with yellow button-like lenses. He wears a white short-sleeved tunic with brass buttons, a brown leather belt with a brass buckle, and black trousers tucked into dark purple shoes. On his uniform, one can also see a triangular brass badge, which emphasizes his position.

Wrath is cruel, domineering, and conformist. On his orders, city residents are imprisoned for "abnormal behavior", some of which is inherent in some residents because of their characteristics. He also has a bad temper, which he manifests on rebellious prisoners and in battle. Despite this, he is not completely heartless, as he develops a crush on Eda for escaping his grasp multiple times. Additionally, he cares for his son Braxas greatly. Something of a coward if confronted by a stronger magic-user, he can easily be intimidated if threatened with force.

26. #26Demon (Race)

    Keys: demon

Demons are a type of creature that inhabit the aptly named Demon Realm, known to live on the Boiling Isles. Demons are typically somewhat bestial in appearance or nature (although they can be humanoid), and are usually identified as anything that is not a witch, human, palisman, collector, or titan. Notable examples of demons include Vee and Hooty.

Demons come in many shapes and forms, though many share physical similarities with known mythological entities or animals. Despite there being many demons of various shapes and sizes, all demons can be placed in one of three categories: Bug, Biped, and Beast.

Bug: Bug-type demons possess characteristics that are commonly associated with real-world bugs such as worms, insects, arachnids, and so on. They possess an instinct for communication through dance; for a demon outside this category, dance communication is very difficult and can lead to unwanted insults. According to Hooty, bug-type demons possess magic, but only to a limited extent. Examples from this category include: -Puppeteers -Fairies -Hooty's species

Biped: Biped demons, as their name suggests, walk on two legs and, like witches, have a sac of magic bile attached to their heart through which they can utilize magic with spell circles. Appearance-wise, members of this type can range from animalistic to looking near-identical to witches. Examples of demons that fall under this category include: -Eileen's species -Moon girl's species -Piniet's species -Principal Faust's species -Tibbles' species -Kikimora's species -Osran's species -The unnamed Merchant's species -Salty's species -Tinella Nosa's species -Warden Wrath and Braxas' species

Beast: Beast demons are usually animal-like in appearance and behavior, though there are examples of Beast demons that possess the same sentience and intelligence as humans and witches, as well as the ability to speak. One such example is the Snaggleback. According to Hooty, only a blood sample can unequivocally confirm whether a demon belongs to this category. Examples from this category include: -Echo mice -Basilisks -Giraffes -Griffins -Ratworms -Selkidomus -Slitherbeasts -Snagglebacks -Trash Slugs

Due to the limited number of categories, demon classification is comprehensive. As little information is provided on general demon biology, and with the tendency of a demon's appearance to overlap with that of other creatures, many demons fall into a group by a primary trait, even if said biology is more prevalent than their demon types, e.g., Hooty is a Bug Demon, presumably due to his overall worm-like physiology, not for his resemblance to an owl. Additionally, the classification does not seem to apply to demons of certain unique origins and species. Due to this ambiguity, it is currently unknown what determines a creature as a demon, or if there are criteria to speak of besides simply being distinct from other Demon (or Human) Realm species.

According to Hooty, the ancestors of demons arose from the muck of a decomposing titan, implied to be the Titan. On the Boiling Isles, demons, depending on whether or not they are sapient, act as the Isles' demographic and fauna, respectively. Demons are not known to have a civilization that is separate from that formed by Emperor Belos, and purportedly had no formal governance during the Savage Ages; after which, they were introduced and unified under Belos's monarchy system. King, the last surviving titan, initially believed himself to be the usurped "King of Demons", as well as a demon himself. In reality, however, this turned out to be a fabrication of his mind as a result of his early upbringing under Eda, as was his alleged status as "King of Demons".[2] Notably, Titan Trapper Island, along with Titan Trapper civilization as a whole, seems to lack demons.

Demons, particularly Beast types, may be treated as non-sentient animals, capable of being captured by Animal Control for disrupting the lives of ordinary citizens. Notably, at least one group of demon hunters existed, nomadic witches who catch and sell potentially valuable beast demons, despite most of the members being demons themselves, albeit bipeds.

Although Hexside is a school for both magic and demonics, there is little info on what "Demonics" actually is.

Other types of demons may be related or descended from the aforementioned three classes. For instance, Hooty has been referred to as a "house demon" by the demon hunter, Lilith, and Amity.

A folder marked "Hybrids" on the demonology board Hooty showed king implies the existence of hybrid demons, albeit it is not clear if this refers to hybrids between demon classes or with non-demon species, such as witches. However, the spider teacher from Hexside is classified as a Bug-type demon with a "hybrid" note next to it, making her the only known hybrid demon in the series so far.

While the Owl Beast is categorized with other beast-type demons, a small note with "???" can be found next to it, suggesting that Hooty isn't entirely confident about its type.

While Hooty has confirmed that bug demons and biped demons possess their magic, it's not exactly known whether beast demons can do the same. Basilisks need to consume magic to transform (and it is implied they gain some other sustenance from it as well), but it is unknown if they possess their source of magic.

27. #27Human (Race)

    Keys: human

Humans (Homo sapiens) are the dominant species on the planet Earth. Humans are a fairly technologically advanced species occupying Earth, or what the witches and demons of the Boiling Isles refer to as the "Human Realm". While humans and witches are usually quite morphologically similar, there are a few key anatomical differences. Humans have rounded ears as opposed to the pointed ears of witches. Humans also lack the magic bile sac that allows witches to perform magic, as such, they are unable to cast spells without the use of tools containing their own power source or method of invocation, such as glyph magic, palismen, or using tools with magical power sources.

Witches are aware of the existence of humans and human culture, but have minimal knowledge of them. According to Willow Park, most witches will not be able to recognize a human right away. Many human artifacts have found their way into the Demon Realm, but witches have little to no understanding of what they are or how they function. Regardless, there are those who earn their living trading in these artifacts (i.e., Eda's Human Collectibles). Actual humans are extremely rare in the Demon Realm. When one does turn up, they can become an object of curiosity. Human items and artifacts are often brought to the demon realm by a magic substance called Titan's Blood, which creates transient rifts between the human and demon realms that transports things in between. Some of these items can be found inside the contents of trash slugs.

While humans and human artifacts can be brought to the Demon Realm, evidence of witches or witch artifacts being brought to the Human Realm is less understood, given that demons and witches that entered the human realm influenced Earth's real-life mythologies and legends, but the last natural sighting of witches occurred centuries before present day, in the town of Gravesfield. However, Eda's use of the portal to travel to Earth in her lifetime suggests the passage between the two realms is bidirectional. Her activities have been spotted by several humans during those years, but many are unaware she is a witch. Jacob Hopkins has a paranoid but inaccurate understanding of witches and collects the items Eda brought from the Demon Realm in order to "expose" them.

While actual humans are a rare sight in the Demon Realm, there are at least four known humans who have been on the Boiling Isles. The first was Caleb Wittebane, who entered the Isles with Evelyn and apparently eloped with her. The second is Philip Wittebane, who came through Eclipse Lake shortly after Caleb's entry and murdered Caleb upon discovering his relationship with Evelyn, later taking control of the Isles, and masquerading as a witch named Belos, modifying his ears to reflect those of a witch's. The other humans are Luz Noceda, who came through the portal and attended Hexside School of Magic and Demonics to be a witch, and her mother Camila, who accompanied Luz on her return journey to the Demon Realm to save it from Belos and the Collector.

Few witches are actually able to recognize humans, or at least few are able to recognize one at a glance.

Although humans are supposedly despised and treated like lesser beings in the Boiling Isles, Luz is able to become popular and well-liked by many. On a general scope, despite Boiling Isles citizens supposedly being remarkably prejudiced against humans, the society which has "flourished" on the Isles mirrors human civilization considerably.

Many witches (like Willow and Gus) are fascinated with Luz and different items from the Human Realm. Gus was the president of a Hexside club called the Human Appreciation Society, which catalogs human artifacts and their culture (however, Gus was later expelled from the club and replaced by Matt).

28. #28Owlbert

Keys: Eda's staff, Eda's palisman, Owlbert

Owlbert is the owl palisman of Eda Clawthorne. He is the first inhabitant of the Demon Realm that Luz encounters, and the initial reason she ends up on the Boiling Isles. Owlbert is a small owl palisman. He has a tan face, a light brown stomach, and his back, wings, tail, and upper head and forehead are dark brown. He has large yellow eyes and a russet beak and feet. His staff interlock, located on the base of his right foot, is a circular shape with a triangular notch near the bottom of it. In staff form, his wings wrap closely around his body, His feet, positioned close together, form into a convex wooden shape at the base of his body in order to properly connect onto his staff, which is dark brown in color. He possesses similar coloring to his live form with minor differences, such as his face becoming slightly darker. His eyes become brown and the insides of his wings are the same light brown as his body, as opposed to the dark brown in his live form. When in flight or utilizing magic as a staff, his eyes glow bright yellow and his wings grow longer and spread out. Owlbert is shown to be intelligent, compassionate, generous, and loyal, not only to Eda but to any of the people he cares about. After Luz accidentally injures him, he flees from her, escaping to the Bat Queen's lair. After Luz demonstrates that she really does care for him through a series of trials imposed on her by the Bat Queen and that she really is sorry for what happened, he fully forgives her, and when Bat Queen becomes overprotective of him, he sternly steps in and assures her that he cares for Luz, and wishes to return home to her and Eda. Later, Owlbert looks out for Luz even further, to the point of lying to Eda about what had happened so she wouldn't be punished. He is shown competitive when playing Hexes Hold'em with Eda, but accepts his defeat upon losing to her. He is shown to enjoy physical affection, such as Eda scratching under his wings.

29. #29Frewin

Keys: Frewin, Bump's palisman, Principle Bump's palisman

Frewin Species: Palisman Gender: Male Frewin. He is an imp-like palisman belonging to Bump, and rests with his mouth over Bump's upper head and eyes, helping Bump to see better through his eyes. Frewin is an imp-like creature with a slightly humanoid appearance. He has a long, spade-tipped tail, clawed hands, and two horns on either side of his head, with a wide cat-like mouth showing two fangs and a dull blue tongue. His skin and staff are maroon in color, with paler spots circling his eyes. Said eyes, which usually cover Bump's, are dull sea green, with pale yellow sclera.

In his staff form, Frewin rests in a hunched position, with his hands over the top of his staff, his feet hanging off of it, and his tail wrapped around it. His eyes squint and become pale yellow.

30. #30Magic

    Keys: magic

Magic is a supernatural force present in the Boiling Isles and the Demon Realm as a whole. Magic, once invoked, has the ability to manipulate other natural forces. A spell, the most basic unit of magic, is an invocation that accomplishes a specific change. A spell can be simple or complex, depending on the degree of change the spell caster is attempting to accomplish.

Magic is not known to be present in the Human Realm; other natural forces exist, but magic is the only force that appears to be controllable through will alone.

Magic on the Boiling Isles is manipulated through a system of rituals. These rituals restrain and provide order and direction to what would ordinarily be a chaotic force. Witches invoke magic through the use of gestures, incantations, enchanted objects, potions, and elixirs. Witches require extensive education and training in order to master the system, allowing them to use magic effectively and safely. This training is accomplished at institutions such as Hexside and Glandus High. Students start training in magic at the kindergarten level and continue to develop their skills across the educational spectrum. As witches pursue their educations, they are guided down academic tracks leading to eventual coven membership and magic specialization.

There are four different types of magic sources: Bile Sacs, Glyph Magic, Staffs and Wands, and Artificial Magic.

31. #31Bile Sacs

    Keys: bile, sac

The most common source of magic used on the Boiling Isles, witches and demons can cast spells through a sac of magic bile attached to their hearts. Each bile sac contains different magic phlegms that can be mixed together to create different spells, and thanks to this natural magic reservoir, witches and biped demons can cast a variety of spells just by drawing a spell circle. Because bile sacs contain magic, bile sac users can continue to use magic even in places where there is no other natural source of magic present, such as the Human Realm. However, as the magic is coming from a biological medium, the emotions can be connected to magic. If the user is experiencing intense emotions, the effects are similar to adrenaline, where the stronger emotions make the magic stronger but more chaotic, to the point their magic becomes uncontrollable. Using magic while experiencing these strong emotions will cause the user's eyes to glow.

It is implied by Eda and Hunter that ancient witches or other magickind lacked bile sacs.

32. #32Wands

    Keys: wand, training wand

Besides glyphs and bile sacs, witches can also use specific tools to aid in spellcasting. A training wand is an instructional tool with which novice witches learn new spells. One such wand made its debut on the Knee, and is owned by Amity. It is a standard magic wand with a power reservoir near the handle. Used in conjunction with the primer Magic 101, it provides the necessary power to cast the desired spell so long as there is a sufficient power reserve. The rate at which the reservoir is drained depends on the power required by the chosen spells. It is unknown how the wand is charged, and what kind of battery it uses.

As the training wand provides its own magical power, humans like Luz and presumably other non-magical beings can use it to spell cast. The wand is used to draw a spell circle, casting the desired spell. While the training wand supplies the power, the witch using it still has to provide the intent and control. The spell circle drawn with a training wand matches the color of the witch's normal spell circle.

The training wand is a light brown stick with a thicker, darker brown handle. Connecting the handle to the stick is a gray cylinder with a screen displaying how much battery is remaining on the wand, with green meaning full to half-full, and red meaning empty or close to empty.

33. #33Artificial Magic

    Keys: artificial magic

A relatively unknown source of magic used by Emperor Belos and Hunter, artificial magic seems to rely more on advanced scientific technology than natural sources. Supposedly, Belos learned how to harness this form of magic with the help of The Collector. It is notably effective against the magic-blocking wool, suggesting that artificial magic is a separate force from natural magic. Artificial magic is primarily red and allows its user to perform powerful spells without the need for spell circles. However, in Hunter's case, artificial magic can only be channeled via technology-enhanced equipment, such as his staff; disarming Hunter of his staff will leave him unable to cast any spells.

34. #34Eberwolf the Huntsman

    Keys: Eberwolf

Eberwolf the Huntsman Species: Bipedal Demon Gender: Male Age: Adult Eberwolf is a child-sized bestial humanoid. He has a wild mane of auburn hair tied in a big, fluffy ponytail using a yellow, frayed band. His body is covered with orange fur, with some unkempt spots on his cheeks and elbows. His eyes have yellow sclerae with magenta irises and slit pupils, and he has two pointed ears similar in shape to a cat's.

When assuming his bestial form, Eberwolf becomes even more beast-like in appearance. He gains large claws on his feet and toes, and bears many teeth of various types simultaneously, such as fangs, buck teeth, and tusks.

Eberwolf wears a sage-green sleeveless shirt, a dull brown loincloth in the likeness of a hand or paw with light gray claws, and a pair of dark brown boots with gray soles. He also wears a pair of spiked yellow arm bracers.

Eberwolf has an animalistic personality; he is very energetic and easy-going, yet vicious when he needs to be. He also has somewhat of a mischievous streak (e.g., listening to Eda's stream from the Gland Prix, and even increasing the volume just to annoy his colleague Darius, when he was supposed to help him interrogate and/or torture Raine). Eberwolf is also rebellious and easily annoyed, going feral when he needs to protect his friends, especially Darius. He does not seem to speak, typically communicating with animal-like sounds, though does appear to understand spoken language perfectly.

Four years later after Belos is defeated, Eberwolf is part of a team along with Raine, Darius, Alador, and Viney, various younger witches researching methods of removing Coven Sigils at Latissa Hospital. After years of research, they succeed.

Eberwolf has a pet ratworm that he can summon when he pleases. It seems his ratworm will obey and assist him in his needs.

Skills and Abilities -Magic: Eberwolf is able to use magic. Like all witches and biped demons, his connection to magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to his heart. Having earned the rank of coven leader, he is undoubtedly very powerful. -Beast Keeping magic: As the former head of the defunct Beast Keeping Coven, Eberwolf can utilize many spells pertaining to Beast Keeping magic, some of which are seemingly unique to him. -Bestial form: Eberwolf can enhance his own beastly attributes, such as granting himself enhanced vision, longer, sharper claws, and many sharp teeth of various types. -Tracking spell: Eberwolf can cast a spell on himself to increase his tracking capabilities. With the spell cast, Eberwolf was able to find hidden footprints that were invisible to the naked eye and make said footprints visible to others. -Beast summoning: Eberwolf is capable of summoning and commanding beast demons, often as mounts or to assist him in battle. While pursuing Raine and Eda, Eberwolf summoned a ratworm to ride on. Eberwolf once summoned flesh-eating beetles to attack Mason. -Burrowing: Eberwolf hides underground by burrowing. -Strong teeth: Eberwolf's teeth are capable of breaking through metal chains, as he did to free Luz from shackles.

35. #35Viney

    Keys: Viney

Viney Species: Witch Gender: Female Age: 18 She works at Latissa Hospital (formerly known as Police Precinct 206) as a Healer.

Viney has brown hair with four wefted bangs and a waist-length ponytail held together by a dark orange chipped spiked hair tie. She has pointed ears, similar to the other witches of the Boiling Isles. She has green eyes with one lash on the top and one lash on the bottom.

Viney is shown wearing an orange shawl with a frilled maroon tunic, tan pants, and brown boots.

Viney is a laid-back and casual teenager with a certain degree of leadership and self-assurance to back her actions up, as shown how she seemingly takes charge while in the detention track. She is the first to welcome Luz in the detention track and takes the charge to show her the ropes. Just like her fellow detention mates, she is very eager to continue learning magic and even more so to combine two separate types of magic. She also appears to have a fondness towards animals, so much so that she owns a pet griffin, Puddles, and insists that she would make a great medical assistant.

Viney is also respectful towards people who take responsibility and stand up for the oppressed, as was the case when Luz took responsibility in front of the teacher overseeing detention. A direct corollary of this is that Viney can be easily offended by people who believe themselves to be better than her and her friends. She dismissed Luz from the group after overhearing that Luz felt that she was above her detention mates. However, her opinion was once again swayed in favor of Luz after the human girl convinced Viney, as well as Jerbo and Barcus, to help the school fight off the greater basilisk, because even if others treated them badly, the detention track was still invaluable.

In the four years after Belos’ defeat, Viney joins Alador Blight’s team of researchers along with Jerbo, Raine Whispers, Bo, Emira Blight, and various others in searching for a way to remove Coven Sigils from branded witches at Latissa Hospital. Eventually, on the day of Luz's eighteenth birthday, they succeed in removing an illusionist sigil from a branded witch, utilizing a special glove constructed by Alador which is powered by large amounts of healing magic, for which Viney and the other assistants provide.

Her palisman is an unnamed manticore palisman.

Skills and Abilities -Magic: Viney can perform magic by drawing spell circles. Like all witches, her magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to her heart. -Healing magic: Viney can perform healing spells. By drawing a spell circle over a wound and or injury, Viney magically mends the damage and restores the body. Viney can project protective shields in the form of healing hands as well. -Medical knowledge: Viney has medical experience in remedial procedures. -Beast Keeping magic: Viney can conjure, call, tame her beast, a griffin named Puddles, with a spell circle. She uses her healing expertise to train Puddles as an assistant in her treatments, delivering lollipops to her patients.

36. #36Emperor's Coven

    Keys: Emperor's Coven

The Emperor's Coven was the highest-ranked coven in the Coven system. It served directly under Emperor Belos and enforced his will across the Boiling Isles, functioning as both law enforcement and judicial system. Following Belos' defeat four years ago, the Emperor's Coven eventually fell apart due to the loss of their command structure. Its base of operations was at the Emperor's Castle, which was destroyed and has since been replaced by the University of Wild Magic following the Day of Unity.

Coven Scouts: The most common uniform of the Emperor's Coven was the standard scout uniform. The scout uniform consisted of a dark gray long-sleeved shirt with brown gloves and a brown belt with a gold buckle, followed by black harem pants and pointed brown boots. On their heads, members wore a white cowl with a pointed hood and hid their faces behind a light gray bird-like mask resembling masks worn by plague doctors, 17th century physicians who treated victims of the Bubonic Plague in certain European countries.

Coven Guards: The Coven guards possessed a humanoid appearance, a large rotund build, and blue eyes with black sclerae and pupils. Their uniform consisted of a gray long-sleeved shirt with brown gloves and a brown belt with a gold buckle, followed by black harem pants and brown boots. The Coven Guards wore dark gray pointed masks as opposed to the bird-like masks worn by Coven Scouts. Their uniforms prominently featured a golden triangle at the center. Each Coven Guard was usually armed with a sword that hangs off their belt, though they could use various types of magic due to being part of the Emperor's Coven.

Miscellaneous Uniforms: Certain members of the Emperor's Coven appeared to have their own specialized uniforms, which likely denotes rank or occupation. Regardless of the uniform worn, most, if not all Emperor's Coven uniforms, bore a triangle-shaped symbol that denoted their allegiance to Emperor Belos.

The Emperor's Coven was one of the ten major covens established on the Boiling Isles and was tasked with enforcing imperial law. Unlike members of other covens, Emperor's Coven members retained access to all of their magic. Members of the Emperor's Coven were found working in government-operated facilities, such as the Conformatorium, various police precincts, and the Emperor's Castle. Most guard duties and patrols were handled by the Coven Guards, though it was not uncommon to see Scouts patrolling the area. Scouts were often tasked with missions outside urban areas and were usually led by superior members such as Lilith Clawthorne, Kikimora, or various Guard Captains.

Members of the Emperor's Coven were elite witches and demons recruited from the best students in the educational system. Should open spots within the coven be limited, a Witch's Duel may be held, with the winner becoming the newest addition to the coven. Upon induction, members of the Emperor's Coven received a brand from a branding glove and were required to give their palisman to the emperor. Newly inducted recruits underwent rigorous training regiments, which included participating in Witch's Duels, navigating trap-filled mazes, and surviving alone on a mountain. They woke up and started their days at 6:00 in the morning, and had one annual day off.

The coven was initially led by Lilith Clawthorne before her defection. It was then led by Hunter up until his defection. With that, the Emperor's Coven was left vacant of a leader, aside from Belos himself. Nevertheless, with the quickly approaching Day of Unity, Belos remained unconcerned.

In the aftermath of the Day of Unity, the Emperor's Coven effectively collapsed due to the disappearance of Belos, the revelation that his work was designed to kill witchkind, and the release of the Collector, and all its members, minus Kikimora, were most likely captured and turned into toys by the Collector and his spies along with nearly everyone else on the Isles, though a few were able to escape and go underground.

After Belos was finally destroyed, the remaining members of the coven decided to help rebuild the Isles, albeit with some reluctant to adapt to a new system. Four years following the emperor's defeat, the Isles appears to have fully reformed with the help of its inhabitants.

37. #37Darius Deamonne

    Keys: Deamonne, Darius

Darius Deamonne Species: Witch Gender: Male Age: Adult He was one of the nine Coven Heads, having served as the Head Witch of the Abomination coven, prior to the dismantling of the Coven system. Darius is a tall, muscular man with dark brown skin, bright green eyes, and abomination-like hair. He has an amorphous hair bun with a green abomination's eye, and similarly amorphous sideburns and a goatee. He also has an abomination sigil on his right arm.

Using abomination magic, Darius can change his body's form to become a large abomination with multiple eyes with black scleras and lime green pupils all over his body while being amorphous, and can create weapons using abomination goo.

Darius wears a black top, purple shoulder pieces with gold accents, and a pink diamond necklace. He wears black pants with a pink half sash, and a yellow belt with a Titan skull buckle. Darius also has white bracelets and white boots with gold buttons and purple toe caps.

Darius is very posh and takes pride in his appearance. He hates getting dirty to the point where he would care more about someone getting him dirty than any actual crimes they may have committed. He is also rather rude, even towards his allies, as shown when he called Eberwolf "mutt" after he crawled over him.

He is highly critical of Abomatons and thinks Alador Blight is a hack, despite the latter being in his coven, a sentiment Alador returns in kind.

However, he also has a softer side. While he is prideful of his position, he is also one to appreciate those who make friends and don't dedicate their entire lives to their job, as he believed Hunter did. After realizing Hunter wasn't as he thought he was, he was willing to keep Flapjack a secret from the Emperor, as well as provide a scroll for the boy to allow him access to Penstagram, a social media platform for the Boiling Isles. He was also willing to take unwilling recruits back home instead of to coven training after they were scouted.

Unlike most of the other Coven Heads, Darius is not easily tricked and/or delusional, as he never quite believed Belos' claims about the success and prosperity promised by the Day of Unity, prompting him to try to discover more about it, eventually leading him to ally himself with Eberwolf and Raine.

His priorities are "to help people and to care for those that he loves."

Four years later after Belos' defeat, Darius works with Alador, Eberwolf, Raine, and various younger witches researching methods of removing Coven Sigils at the Latissa Hospital, which they eventually succeed in doing.

Skills and Abilities -Magic: As a witch, Darius is able to use magic. Like most witches, his connection to magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to his heart. Having earned the rank of coven leader, he is undoubtedly very powerful. -Abomination magic: As the former leader and member of the defunct Abomination Coven, Darius can cast spells that allow him to create and control abominations. -Abomination teleportation: Darius can transport other people to faraway places, such as the Conformatorium, using abomination slime. He can also use abomination slime to teleport himself over short distances. -Abomination constructs: Darius can use abomination slime to create solid constructs, such as spikes and swords. -Abomination exoskeleton: Darius can encase himself (either his whole body or just parts of it) in abomination matter, which assumes Darius' shape in an abomination-like form that greatly increases his size and strength. -Remote communication: He can use small abomination golems to deliver messages on paper and also relay sound and visuals back to him. -Sewing: Darius is a skilled sewer.

38. #38Alador Blight

    Keys: Alador, Blight

Alador Blight Species: Witch Gender: Male Age: Adult He is the former chief engineer of Blight Industries, the ex-husband of Odalia Blight, and the father of Edric, Emira, and Amity Blight.

After realizing that he was neglecting his children to the point of not knowing Amity was in a relationship with Luz, Alador decided to become a better father. Upon learning that the Day of Unity entailed the genocide of magickind, he discovered that Odalia was already entirely aware of this and colluded with Emperor Belos under the delusional belief that the Blights would be spared, leading him and Amity to cut ties with her.

Alador is a pale-skinned witch with a disheveled look. He has unkempt hair with sideburns, hairy arms, and stubble. He has golden eyes and brown hair, like his younger daughter, Amity. Most likely due to the fact he works a lot, he is always seen slumping. Alador has a little abomination hanging out in his light blue jacket with purple stains from abomination projects, under which is a white shirt. Alongside that, he wears gray pants with black boots which are also covered in purple stains. On his waist belt is a tag with the images of a green diamond, a yellow crescent moon, and a blue teardrop, nods to Edric and Emira's concealment stones and Amity's (now Luz's) eclipse necklace. He now has different-styled boots. He also wears golden goggles with purple lenses on his head.

Alador is a clumsy, easily distracted scientist. If something catches his attention, it can be quite hard for others to get him to focus on anything else. He doesn't seem to be very talkative, as he only speaks when necessary. When asked questions by others, such as Luz, he is as direct and concise as possible. Alador mostly lets his wife take the lead in situations, helping her with whatever she tells him to do, but he does have a limit. This is shown when Odalia tries to go back on her deal with Amity, and Alador reminds her that their family always honors their deals, indicating he has a sense of integrity and honor.

Alador also seems to object to his wife's willingness to put others in danger for profit. This is shown when an injured Luz claims the abomination-powered robot has more than proven its strength to the spectators, and Alador tells his wife that Luz "has a point". Alador cares about Amity, as well as her progress, as indicated by his smile when Amity stands up to Odalia and almost destroys the abomination he created. This is also shown when Amity helps him take down Warden Wrath together, making a proud expression.

Although he does love them, Alador does not pay his children much attention, much to their frustration. This deeply strained his relationship with Amity, who seeks to prove her worth to him and to understand him better, especially when she finally reaches the age to compete in the Bonesborough Brawl. Alador, believing that his daughter has a bright future and shouldn't "goof off" as he did at her age, refuses to let her go to the brawl and willingly goes along with the notion that she needs to compete in the tryouts for the Emperor's Coven instead, under the belief that joining it is her dream. When he finds out that she disobeyed him, Alador is disappointed and furious with her, even remarking that she should go beg the Emperor's Coven for the next opportunity to participate in the tryouts. However, Amity soon teaches him that she needs to make decisions without him and Odalia butting in, which he accepts.

Alador expresses shock when he learns that Amity no longer wants to join the Emperor's Coven, in addition to the fact that she is dating Luz, realizing that he hardly pays his children any attention because he is too focused on his work. Feeling regret over how he treated Amity, Alador begins to see her for who she wants to be, admitting that he likes her new hair color and resolving to speak with Odalia about attempting to dye her hair green again. Although Amity doesn't fully forgive him, she appreciates that he's trying to be better, saying that "it's a start".

After getting on a new start with Amity, Alador slowly resolves to pay more attention to his children and defy his wife's control. Tired and overworked by Odalia, he reflects on his marriage, feeling miserable and unaccomplished. Eventually, Odalia's intentions on keeping Amity, Luz, and their friends prisoner while helping Belos exterminate their species for her own personal gain causes Alador to snap, and he finally stands up to Odalia, destroying the Blight Industries warehouse and disabling the rest of the Abomatons. He also quits his post at Blight Industries, slowly developing and turning over a new leaf for the greater good. Alador also seems to have grown fond of Luz, inviting her to stay at Blight Manor anytime (although an illusion then reveals that Luz is actually Hunter, shocking him).

In the four years after Belos' defeat, Alador works as part of a team--including Darius and Emira--looking for a way to remove coven sigils, which they manage to succeed at using a device that channels healing magic.

Skills and Abilities -Magic: As a witch, Alador is able to use magic. Like most witches, his connection to magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to his heart. -Abomination magic: Alador is an expert at creating abominations. Due to his expertise in the track, he is responsible for developing the abomination-based weapons of Blight Industries, such as the Abomaton. He is just as adept at using abominations for combat as he is at engineering them. Alador's eyes can also glow orchid if he is using high amounts of his magic, allowing him to perform spells without a spell circle, as shown when he fights Odalia. -Abomination transportation: Alador can use abomination matter to travel from place to place. -Abomination walls: Alador can create a wall out of abomination matter to impede enemies. -Abomination creation: He can create anything made out of abomination matter, such as mittens. -Engineering proficiency: As the former engineer of Blight Industries, Alador is able to construct and integrate machinery into his abominations, and even channel magic outside of his specialization (when he created a machine to channel healing magic to remove coven sigils). -Prowess in Battle: Alador is a skilled fighter. In his youth, he won the Bonesborough Brawl, during the same event decades later he easily defeated Warden Wrath and later subdued the warden after he was mutated, with the help of Amity. Even when under the effects of the Draining Spell, he was still able to take out multiple abomitons on his own.

39. #39Odalia Blight

    Keys: Odalia

Odalia Blight Species: Witch Gender: Female Age: Mid-to-late 40s She is the former CEO of Blight Industries, the divorced wife of Alador, and the mother of Edric, Emira, and Amity.

A scheming, greedy, mean and tyrannical woman, Odalia held a controlling grasp on the interests of her employees and every other member of the Blight family, playing a role that emboldened them with high expectations to vicariously satisfy Odalia's ambitions.

In order to obtain more influence, she colluded with Emperor Belos, supplying him an army through her company in a flawed attempt to ensure her family's survival during the Day of Unity. This revelation ultimately causes her family to sever all ties with Odalia, leaving her to depart with them on bitter terms. After the Day of Unity, she aligned with the Collector in an attempt to manipulate him, only to be reduced to a mere servant.

Odalia is a witch with a curvaceous build contrasted by the sharp features in her face. She has pale skin and tufted hair similar to Amity's, but the latter is a two-toned mint green, lighter on the top layer and darker on the bottom layer, a trait she shares with her eldest children, Edric and Emira, with a lighter streak across the top. Unlike the rest of her family, Odalia has blue eyes.

Odalia wears a light violet blouse with gold rings and frills halfway along the sleeves, while the other halves of the sleeves become pink. Her waistcoat is light purple and has purple and light pink star patterns on it. Her pants are two-toned with a diamond on both knee areas, and her boots are indigo with pink bands around the ankles and yellow star patterns on the toes. She accessorizes her appearance with a necklace containing a pink, oval gem, purple lipstick, and golden earrings.

As a businesswoman, Odalia is a controlling woman whose haughty and elitist thinking makes her a domineering influence on anyone around her, including her family. She is shown to be highly concerned about her family's reputation to the point where she'll interfere with her children's personal lives and opinions to ensure they stay in line, even silencing her own children when they wish to speak their mind on the matter. This is evident by how she uses her oracle magic to telepathically keep Amity in line via matching amulets that allow Odalia to directly speak to Amity in her mind. Additionally, it was Odalia who forced Amity to end her friendship with Willow due to her weak magical abilities and lower social status, making her be "friends" with Boscha and Skara instead since they came from more respectable families.

Odalia claims to be an honorable woman, always reciting her family's motto, but in actuality, has proven to have every intention of going back on her word on numerous occasions, showing nothing but hypocrisy on her part. When something doesn't end up going as she planned, she has to be told how it can potentially benefit her. Not only underhanded, Odalia has a duplicitous side in how she offered to let Luz, Willow, and Gus back into Hexside if Luz assisted her and her husband with a demonstration of their company products, but it was revealed to have actually been a plot to eliminate Luz completely. She is also quite greedy, which is evident when Amity ruined a Blight Industries demonstration and lost many investors willing to buy their products, causing her to become furious with her younger daughter. All of these actions ultimately paint Odalia as short-sighted, as her plan to get rid of Luz ended up being the reason Amity finally stood up to her for her constant lording over her youngest daughter.

During the Day of Unity, when it is revealed that Odalia knows about the true nature of the event, she is shown to not care about it, fully believing that she and her family will enjoy great prosperity in the "new world" once Belos' plan comes to fruition. When Alador and her children try to reason with her, she willingly brushes them off and goes to great lengths to ensure its success, explaining that they are not going to hinder her without a single care for their feelings or opinions. This shows that Odalia cares about keeping her family ahead of everyone else, regardless of how her family feels and whether or not they actually agree with her.

Odalia's abusive and apathetic behavior towards her family ultimately leads them to turn their backs on her after realizing she's been helping Emperor Belos to commit genocide against witchkind. Despite losing everything she had worked for, she refused to show remorse over her actions and poor treatment of her family and parts ways with them, even when she wasn't happy seeing Amity reunited with Alador.

Four years after Belos' defeat, Odalia's whereabouts are unknown, although some speculate she was imprisoned due to her role in the Day of Unity.

Skills and Abilities -Magic: Odalia is able to use magic. Like most witches, her connection to magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to her heart. -Oracle magic: As an oracle, Odalia's magic lets her perform tasks involving the mind and conjuring. She uses this ability through her necklace as a conduit. -Clairvoyance: Odalia can sense extrasensory thoughts, sights, and outcomes. -Telepathy: Odalia is able to communicate through thought with a person, although it appears to be limited to others wearing another conduit, as she did with her youngest daughter via their necklaces. -Spirit summoning: Odalia can summon spirits from her necklace that can attack an enemy and retrieve objects when commanded. She can also recall these spirits to her necklace as well. -Animation: Odalia can animate objects to do her bidding, as she did with the puppet of Raine Whispers. -Oratory skills: Odalia is a skilled orator, being able to sway people into buying her family's products with ease and manipulating her family to do her bidding.

40. #40Emira Blight

    Keys: Emira, Blight

Emira Blight Species: Witch Gender: Female Age: ~20 She is Amity's older sister, Edric's older twin sister, the oldest child of the divorced Alador and Odalia Blight, and works alongside her father to help remove coven sigils at Latissa Hospital.

As they are twins, Emira has a similar appearance to that of her brother, Edric. She has pale skin, pointed ears, golden eyes, thick black eyebrows, a mole under her left eye, and long, emerald, green hair styled in a pixie cut. Her face shape is also rounded off to a point.

It was revealed that both Emira and Edric use a concealment stone to hide their true appearances. Without her concealment stone, Emira has spots of acne on her face. Her beauty mark also isn't real. Despite continuing to use her concealment stone, she retains a few zits. Emira dons a gray long-sleeved shirt with rust-colored trimmed ends, a black and purple shoulderless, one-strap cowl with dull gold dangles closed by her concealment stone, gold earrings purple shorts with a black belt, and black heeled boots.

Emira is easy-going and friendly, but she has been shown to be an unpleasant prankster at times along with her twin brother, Edric. She is also quite rebellious and somewhat of a slacker, refusing to attend most of her classes and preferring to skip them instead. Despite this, she is fairly intelligent and a capable witch, having become proficient in both healing and illusion magic even before engaging in multi-track classes. It’s later implied that she and Edric became more attentive to their classes after engaging in multi-tracking, suggesting that her initial apathy toward school was partly motivated out of disagreeing with Hexside’s initial one-track-only curriculum.

Though mischievous, Emira is also compassionate and sensible. While some of her and Edric’s pranks may seem mean-spirited at times, she is adverse to them actually hurting anyone. This was demonstrated when Amity mentioned that had become extra protective and nice towards her following the "library incident", when their actions unintentionally endangered both her and Luz. She also doesn’t appear to hold grudges, as she didn’t bear any ill-will towards Luz for attempting to thwart her and Edric's plans to embarrass Amity and still considered her a good friend.

Additionally, Emira lacks her parents’ elitist philosophy, tending to judge others based on their character rather than their abilities or status. Unlike her mother and (initially) her sister, Emira was immediately friendly towards Luz and didn’t look down on her for humans’ inability to perform magic, instead being impressed by her reputation and friendly nature. Additionally, she also lacks her mother’s vanity and stance on appearances. Despite near-constantly using a concealment stone to hide her true appearance, Emira doesn’t mind others seeing her actual appearance and will gladly dispel the illusion to help her sister or friends when they need it.

Particularly, she and Edric enjoy embarrassing their younger sister, Amity, due to her standoffish demeanor. Initially, however, their teasing toward her easily came off as inconsiderate and cruel, to the point where they attempted to humiliate her by exposing her diary to the whole school. Despite this, however, she and Edric genuinely love their younger sibling, with their seemingly callous actions having been out of an authentic desire to help Amity break out of her haughty disposition and mature as a person. Subsequently, the two have both become much closer to Amity following her friendship with Luz, with Emira being particularly encouraging of her and Luz’s growing romance, having recognized the positive influence it has had over their sister.

As the oldest of the Blight children, Emira tends to serve as a source of comfort and support for her siblings, and is always willing to help them when they need it. This has been shown many times by how she has often aided Amity during her adventures with Luz while also giving her advice regarding her feelings towards the human, and by always tending to her brother whenever he is injured. While she shares many traits with Edric, Emira stands as the more self-assured, mature, and composed of the two. She also has limited patience towards her brother, having at times felt exasperation over his antics and even at one point stated that her worst fear is spending the rest of her life stuck with him. Despite this, she loves her brother unconditionally and is always there to support him no matter what.

At some point after Belos was defeated, Emira and her siblings severed all ties with their mother following her and their father's divorce During the next four years, Emira would eventually graduate from Hexside, following which she would begin working as a research assistant to her father in searching for a way to remove the Coven Sigils from branded witches.

On the day of Luz's 18th birthday, Emira participated in her father's first successful removal of the sigils at his laboratory by serving as one of the assistants who provided the healing magic necessary to power Alador's removal device. Following the experiment's success, Emira would join her father outside to meet up with Amity and her friends, joyfully watching as he and her sister warmly embraced each other.

Skills and Abilities -Magic: Emira, like her brother Edric, is shown to be highly skilled at magic. Like all witches, her magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to her heart. -Illusion magic: Emira specializes in magic that involves manipulating perception, like Edric and Gus. 41. #41Edric Blight

    Keys: Edric, Blight

Edric Blight Species: Witch Gender: Male Age: ~20 He is the older brother of Amity Blight, younger twin brother of Emira Blight, the middle child of the divorced Alador and Odalia Blight, and an illusion class teacher at the University of Wild Magic.

Edric has a similar appearance to that of his sister, Emira, as they are twins. He has pale skin, pointed ears, golden eyes, thick black eyebrows, short, shaggy emerald-green hair, stubble on his chin, and a mole under his right eye. It is revealed that both Edric and Emira use a concealment stone to hide their true appearances.

Edric wears a dark amber jacket with a brown waist belt holding two potion bottles and a tie with a diamond: his right sleeve is rolled up and his left is light blue with fur on the upper arm. He also wears black pants, brown furry boots, and round gold-rimmed glasses with a cracked right lens.

Edric is an easy-going and friendly boy, but he has been shown to be quite a nasty prankster along with his twin sister, Emira. This is because he enjoys having fun. He is also quite rebellious, refusing to attend classes and preferring to skip them instead. He and Emira enjoy embarrassing their younger sister, Amity, due to her standoffish demeanor. However, despite this, he and Emira do seem to genuinely care about her, as Amity mentioned that they've been extra protective and nice towards her to make up for the "library incident". Ever since then, Edric and Emira have had a much better relationship with Amity, helping her rescue Luz and giving her advice when she talked about her crush on the latter.

Though initially antagonistic towards his younger sister, Edric seems to bear no ill will towards Luz for attempting to thwart his and Emira's plans to embarrass Amity. He even displays something of a fondness for her, winking at her when they first met. Compared to his sisters, Edric is very melodramatic, as he is quick to panic over adversity and danger. He is also prone to get emotionally attached, such as when he wanted to adopt a bat that he wanted to try eating at first, until Emira stopped him from eating it.

This extends towards Emira to the point of dependency, as he despairs over the idea of parting with Emira forever (a sentiment that the more autonomous Emira does not share). Edric is also slightly dim-witted at times, often refusing to listen to Emira or making his own situations worse.

Edric is somewhat insecure, feeling like whenever he tries to help, he ends up ruining things instead. However, when he demonstrates how proficient he is at not only illusion magic, but beast keeping and potion magic as well, Edric proves to be a very useful and powerful ally.

At some point after Belos was destroyed, Edric and his sisters severed all connections with Odalia following her and Alador's divorce. During the next four years, Edric would graduate from Hexside before taking up a teaching position at the newly constructed University of Wild Magic under Eda's mentorship, with Batric serving as an assistant during his classes. On the day of Luz's 18th birthday, Edric was teaching a class on illusion magic at the university. During the session, Edric used illusion magic to make Batric instantly appear from seemingly nowhere, though this humorously led to the small bat demon colliding into Edric's face when it flew in the opposite direction.

He has a pet bat-like demon named Batric.

Skills and Abilities -Magic: Edric, like his sister Emira, is shown to be highly skilled at magic. Like all witches, his magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to his heart. -Illusion magic: Edric specializes in magic that involves manipulating perception, like Emira and Gus. These illusions can interact with physical objects and people. -Glamour: Edric can change his and/or a person's appearance similar to a transformation. -Combined illusion: Edric can draw a joint spell circle with his twin to create a large illusion; this illusion shows the capacity to create smaller illusions. -Beast keeping magic: Edric has been performing Beast Keeping magic as a "hobby". He later enrolls in the beast keeping track. -Potion magic: As he is in the potions track at Hexside, Edric likely knows some degree of potion magic. -Potion creation: Although not mastered, it is revealed that Edric has a knack for creating potions and elixirs while helping Eda. -Snow magic: Edric showed the ability to manipulate snow while training Amity on the Knee. -Restraining spell: Edric is able to use a spell circle to summon a rope of magical energy which he tried to use to restrain the Slitherbeast. -Telekinesis: Edric is able to move objects without touching them. -Fireworks: He develops, produces, and sells likely illegal firework rockets, several of which he sold to King.

42. #42Batric

    Keys: Batric

Batric Species: Demon It is a bat-like demon, and the pet of Edric Blight.

Batric is a small demon bearing a resemblance to a bat. It has beige fur, a light brown muzzle, a purple collar-like appendage around its neck, and dark brown feet with talons. It has a pink heart-shaped nose and one large, dark blue eye in the center of its face. The inner parts of its ears are purple in color and appea gradually lighter nearer to its head. It has deep purple bat-like wings with a single white claws atop each.

Edric managed to catch Batric on the Knee during Amity's training in hopes to eat it, however, both his sisters prevented him from doing so. Later, Batric becomes Edric's pet, and he tries to get it to sing, but it refuses to do so.

43. #43Amity Blight

    Keys: Amity, Blight · Secondary:

Amity Blight Species: Witch Gender: Female Age: 18 She is a prodigious young witch who is proficient in Abomination engineering, utilizing her skills in helping Lilith's renovations to the Bonesborough Library. Although initially depicted as an antagonist, after bonding with Luz, Amity reforms herself and reassesses her outlook on life, gaining the courage to stand up to her parents, regain her friendship with Willow, and become close friends with Luz, eventually becoming her girlfriend. She is the youngest child of the divorced Alador and Odalia Blight, and the younger sister of Edric and Emira Blight.

Amity is a thin, teenage witch with pale skin, bright golden eyes and pointed ears. Her hair is worn up in a ponytail, held by three pointed magenta crystals, resembling her Grom Queen tiara. Her ponytail also includes bangs being a faded-lavender color they were in the Human Realm and her ponytail being a solid lavender, which exposes her brown undercut. She also has a tattoo of Flapjack on her left arm to match with the rest of her friends, and seemed to have inherited Odalia's curvier figure.

Amity's outfit consists of black triangle dangle earrings, and a black-collared, dark gray button-up shirt with golden buttons on the front and on the rolled-up sleeves, as well as several spots of abomination goo on it. She also wore a set of brown gardening gloves, a lavender cross-body belt with a golden adjuster, a simpler brown belt with a golden rectangular buckle and with a round, dusty-purple flask on her hip, dark purple abomination-style pants, and black high-heeled boots with golden crescent moon buckles.

Amity is described as a bright and competitive individual, with a passionate drive to succeed and rise to the best, both in school and in society. This could be seen in her dream to one day join the Emperor's Coven, which only accepted the most skilled of witches into its ranks. When she and Luz first met, however, Amity was shown to be very proud and arrogant, to the point of being boastful, haughty, and confrontational. As the "Top Student" at Hexside, Amity took pride in her status as the best student in the entire school and went as far as to use it as a bragging right often to get what she wanted. This caused her to look down on other students who weren't as successful as she was and often teased them for it, in which she would brag about her superiority while offering them half-hearted encouragement.

Additionally, Amity didn't take kindly to those who she felt were stealing her spotlight, and would spitefully attempt to get back at them in order to prove her superiority, as she twice attempted to do to with Luz. In line with her vindictiveness, Amity also showed a lack of responsibility and was unwilling to admit when she was at fault, instead directing blame onto others for her own mistakes. Like many witches on the Boiling Isles, Amity also initially held humans in low regard due to their inability to wield magic on their own.

Eventually, however, Amity was shown to possess a much more sensitive side to her personality, which she kept hidden beneath her sense of superiority. This sensitivity was shown when her reputation was compromised, becoming extremely frustrated and deeply depressed whenever she failed to meet her own standards for success. Along with her hidden vulnerable side, Amity was also much kinder than she initially let on. This was first shown when she was genuinely impressed by Luz's commitment in becoming a witch, to the point of honorably unbinding the everlasting oath that would have prevented her from doing this, showing that she genuinely respects those who demonstrate hard work and determination.

In addition, Amity possesses a vehement hatred of cheating. This was demonstrated when she appalled and ashamed when Lilith had unknowingly caused her to cheat during her Witch's Duel with Luz at the Covention, showing that she wishes to succeed based on the validation of her tireless effort. Another prominent trait of Amity's kindness is her fondness for children. Though initially stern and cynical towards those her own age, Amity was extremely sweet and patient towards smaller children, with her enjoying reading to them as part of her job at the Bonesborough Library. Additionally, it was revealed that like Luz, Amity is a fan of the Good Witch Azura book series, which served as an important factor in their eventual friendship.

It was revealed that Amity's negative traits were the result of the controlling influence of her parents, namely her emotionally abusive mother, Odalia. This included her seeming desire of joining the Emperor's Coven, which was, in truth, forced upon her by Odalia. When shown in her mother's presence, Amity's usual confidence and pride were replaced with a submissive and depressed demeanor, due to the deep fear she held of her mother's judgment. Her desperation to live up to her parents' expectations also caused her to conceal her softer traits, having been taught that showing such emotions were signs of weakness.

This suggests that much of Amity's haughty demeanor was, in truth, a facade to hide her emotional insecurities. In truth, after her parents forced her to cut ties with Willow, Amity was an extremely miserable and lonely individual, who took no pleasure in the company of the "friends" she usually hung out with, having only done so at her parents' command. As was revealed in her diary entries, this caused her to secretly yearn for true companionship, while also deeply regretting the meanness she showed towards others at school, both of which she attempted to hide in order to maintain the standards of strength demanded of her by her parents. It was revealed that Amity's deepest desire during this time is to escape her parents' control and choose her own path in life. Ultimately, a leading factor in Amity's emotional development and maturity would be her friendship and eventual romance with Luz. Initially, Amity was very hostile and resentful of Luz, but, as time passed, she became increasingly touched by the constant kindness that Luz showed her. After being saved by Luz from a corrupted Otabin, Amity came to realize that her initial misgivings about Luz were wrong and slowly began opening up to her, with the two forming a connection due to their mutual fondness of the Azura series. As her friendship with Luz grew, Amity gradually began to be kinder to others, while also slowly beginning to make amends with Willow, reconnecting with her older siblings and distancing herself from Boscha's group to the point of standing against them in defense of her newfound friends.

Eventually, as their friendship grew, Amity would develop a strong crush on Luz, being enamored by the human's unwavering kindness and empathetic nature. However, due to her lack of experience with romantic attractions, this crush would often manifest in the form of extreme nervousness, clumsiness, and spontaneous blushing when she found herself in Luz's presence. By the time of Grom, her attraction for Luz had reached such a point that her deepest fear became being rejected by Luz. It was through her love for Luz that Amity would eventually find the courage to stand up to her parents. When Odalia attempted have Luz killed by the Abomaton 2.0 at the Blight Industries expo, Amity furiously came to her crush's defense and defied her mother's orders for the first time, showing impressive bravery and determination to not only protect Luz but also to exert her freedom from the controlling influence that she had long been subjected to. This courage was exemplified once again when Amity began dying her hair purple instead of green, despite knowing her mother would be angered by this, further symbolizing her growing sense of independence.

Since standing up to her parents and becoming Luz's girlfriend, Amity's personality has significantly improved and matured. In contrast to her initial proud, irritable and cynical demeanor, Amity has since become much happier, friendly, patient, and humble, regularly smiling and no longer suppressing the better qualities that she previously kept hidden. In addition to her newfound friendliness, Amity has also become much wiser and forgiving. This was demonstrated when despite being tempted to use Luz's phone to discover what she had been hiding, Amity refused to violate her girlfriend's privacy and instead allowed Luz to inform her on her own terms. Her forgiveness even extends out to her enemies, as she was able to empathize with Hunter due to their similar insecurities and offered him a chance at redemption during their quest for Titan's Blood at Eclipse Lake. Additionally, Amity has abandoned her previous aspirations of joining the Emperor's Coven (and covens in general), recognizing that she only pursued this goal at the behest of her mother's ambitions rather than her own desires.

Despite her newfound development, Amity still retains some of the insecurities she endured under her mother's yoke. After she and Luz first started dating, Amity was shown to be very fearful of Luz breaking up with her if she failed to secure the Titan's Blood for her from Eclipse Lake, which made her fall victim to Hunter's manipulations. These fears most likely stemmed from Odalia raising her to believe that love and appreciation can only be received by meeting others' expectations. Also, it is shown that Amity still possesses much guilt over her years of bullying Willow and desperately wishes to make up for her previous cruelty. This, however, caused her to act irrationally and become very overprotective of Willow during Adrian Graye's attack on Hexside, which not only served to hinder their attempts to escape Graye's coven scouts, but also unintentionally undermine and upset Willow rather than help her. Fortunately, in both instances, by accepting advice from her friends (King in the former and Willow in the latter) Amity was able to recognize her mistakes and worked hard to correct them, further showing how she has now come to listen and accept the advice of others and take responsibility for the errors she makes.

Though now much warmer and friendly, Amity still possesses a fierce temper when provoked, and can be quite threatening to those who earn her wrath. This even extended to her mother Odalia, whom Amity became increasingly estranged with, to the point of attempting to attack her after she expressed her disgust at Amity dating Luz and later when it was revealed that was willingly aiding Emperor Belos' plans of genocide on the Day of Unity, which culminated in her fully cutting ties with her mother and finally freeing herself from her toxic influence.

Amity has since become increasingly carefree, cheerful and fun-loving, and developing a sense of optimism somewhat similar to Luz's. Among her friends, Amity is often shown as the most levelheaded, causing her to often assume a sort of leadership role among the group, trying very hard to get Luz out of her depression and not holding anything against her when Belos told everyone how she helped him achieve power, fully aware that Luz's kindness was taken advantage of. In addition, she maintains her willingness to forgive her enemies, having been able to empathize with Boscha's loneliness even after she betrayed them and later being the first among her friends after Luz to befriend the Collector after he aided them in the final battle against Belos, which also further demonstrated her soft spot for children. Despite this, she still maintains some of her competitive traits, though to a far smaller degree, as was demonstrated in her frustration to being unable to properly draw Glyphs during her lessons with Luz, and later quietly voicing her displeasure at not being the top student in her friends' Spanish lessons.

In the four years since Belos' defeat and cutting ties with her mother Odalia, Amity continues to maintain her warm-hearted and cheerful personality, having finally obtained the freedom and compassion she had always longed for.

Shortly following the final battle with Belos, Amity and her family severed all ties with Odalia, with Alador retaining custody of her and twins following their divorce. Over the four years after, Amity would continue her relationship with Luz, with the two often visiting each other in both the Human and Demon Realms thanks to the Collector's creation of a new portal door. During one of their dates in the Human Realm, the duo would witness an awkward encounter between Hooty and the barista of Robin's Roast Cafe, with Amity, in contrast to Luz, finding it amusing. In addition, Amity would also restore her student-mentor relationship with Lilith, though to a much more genuine and affectionate degree than before.

By the time of the fourth year since Belos' defeat, Amity has since become proficient in Abomination engineering, utilizing her skills in helping Lilith's renovations to the Bonesborough Library. Additionally, she has come to develop an extremely adventurous side.

47. #47Augustus "Gus" Porter

    Keys: Augustus, Gus

Augustus "Gus" Porter Race: Witch Gender: Male Age: ~16 He is friends with Luz, Willow, and Amity, and the son of the reporter Perry Porter.

Gus is a teenage boy, almost the same height as Luz, Amity and Willow, with brown skin, dark brown hair with lighter shades, and sharp angular features. His upper lip is curved, similar to Luz's. Like all the witches and demons on the Boiling Isles, he has pointy ears. His eyes are dark blue. Gus' hair is in locs, and he has stubble on his chin. He also has a cardinal tattoo on his left ankle to symbolize the loss of Flapjack, matching with the rest of his friends. Gus wears a yellow blazer and brown vest over a white shirt, dark blue trousers and loafers. He also wears glasses with dark red frames.

Gus is a young and precocious witch. He is known for being very enthusiastic and excitable; when Luz gives him his nickname, he flips out in sheer joy. Due to being an illusionist, he tends to have a dramatic flair when making statements and presenting things.

He has a huge interest in researching human culture, also happening to be somewhat of an expert on it and was the president of the Human Appreciation Society at his school, even though his knowledge on humans is often inaccurate. His fascination for humans and their culture has caused him to desire becoming an ambassador to the Human Realm. This also extends to re-establishing contact with the exiled inhabitants of the Boiled Isles, such as the giraffes.

In contrast to his usual gleeful attitude towards most activities and interactions, Gus has admitted to being rather insecure in regard to his age. He feels neglected due to being younger than his peers at Hexside and as such tries acting assertively so as not to be left behind. This has also led him to become very welcoming towards newcomers since he can easily understand and empathize with people in the same situation as himself.

Another side to this insecurity is that Gus, advancing to more advanced classes, had found himself being so desperate to befriend his colleagues older in age that he would become oblivious to how they would use him to boost their grades. This had led Gus to become very self-conscious of his own naivety.

In the four years that follow, Gus becomes a teacher at the University of Wild Magic and starts a human student exchange program.

Powers and Abilities -Magic: Gus is studying to become a professional witch. Like all witches, his magic comes from a sac of magic bile attached to his heart. Despite the general rule of restricting magical learning to one area of study, Gus has displayed skill in multiple fields, although his strongest is illusion magic. -Illusion magic: Gus specializes in magic that involves manipulating perception. These illusions can interact with physical objects and people. He has shown to be quite proficient in illusions, and he is perceptive enough to tell if someone is disguising themselves using an illusion, such as when he realized a member of the Emperor's Coven had disguised himself as Adrian Graye Vernworth in an attempt to force a coven sigil on Edric and was able to dispel the illusion to reveal the duplicity. Similar to Willow with her plant magic, Gus' illusion magic becomes much stronger whenever he feels a strong emotion, like extreme sadness or stress, causing his eyes to glow blue, like Willow's eyes glowing green, and allows him to cast magic without a spell circle. -Glamour: Gus can change his or a person's appearance similar to a transformation. -Illusion duplication: Gus can create tangible copies of himself and others. He can use a copy to take his place when he goes out of class; the copy is independent and sometimes won't do what Gus tells him to do unless Gus uses intimidation. -Illusion construct: Gus is able to use his magic to make the shapes of everyday objects, as seen when he used his magic to make the shape of a vacuum to scare the animals. Gus is even able to make floating captions as when he tried to use one to congratulate Luz on getting into Hexside but accidentally used the wrong caption. -Illusionary terrain: Gus can cover an area about a hundred feet radius with very convincing phantasms. In that instance, he was able to convince Bria that the cemetery's statuesque headstones had turned into demonic angels weeping bleeding tears, that her hands had turned to dust, and that a statue resembling her own corpse was clawing at her. Additionally, he could mask the constructs of her magic and make her spell circles appear to crumble when she drew them to make it appear as if her magic wasn't working. However, he stated afterward that this sort of illusion is difficult and exhausting to cast and maintain. When in a stressful situation, he can unconsciously cover large areas like a significant portion of Hexside in a number of identical replicas of places he remembers going to. These illusions are so well-blended together that they can match locations with objects in reality to give authenticity, like matching an illusion location's stairs with stairs in real-life. -Mind illusion: While under a great stressful situation, Gus can unconsciously project illusions from his memories of his own insecurities and fears. He can also cause the ones near him to relive their own traumatic memories. This ability of his is so strong that it can traumatize the ones that get affected by it, as Adrian Graye Vernworth, the Head Witch of the Illusion Coven, was still affected by Gus' mind magic even after the latter turned it off. -Glyph magic: Upon receiving some from Luz, Gus learned to summon magic through glyphs. He is particularly fond of the fire glyph. -Orator/Comedian: He is excellent at keeping a crowd entertained.

On the right side of his vest, Perry wears a red name tag.

Perry is a clear-spoken and detailed man, reporting what he is assigned with great clarity. He is also a caring father, as he enjoys spending time with Gus; however, he does not like when his son interrupts him when he is on the air.

Not much is known about Perry's background except that he studied at Hexside and was in the oracle track. At one point he had a son, Gus, with an unknown partner.

Abilities -Magic: As a witch, Perry can perform magic due to the bile sack attached to his heart. -Oracle Magic: In his youth, Perry was in the oracle track at school, indicating he likely has some skill in the field.

49. #49Willow Park

    Keys: Park, Willow

Willow Park Species: Witch Gender: Female Age: ~18+ She is friends with Luz, Gus, and Amity, and is a professional Flyer Derby player. Willow is naturally very gifted at plant magic, but since she was forced into the abomination track, which she proved far less adept with, many at Hexside assumed she was incompetent. This led to years of self-doubt, but she has made great strides in overcoming it.

Following the Day of Unity and the unleashing of the Collector, she was stranded in the Human Realm for months and forced to take shelter at the Noceda residence. She and her friends later returned to the Demon Realm and the Boiling Isles.

Willow is a shorter-than-average, plus-sized teenage witch with fair skin, pointed ears, olive-green eyes, and short navy-blue hair with a few loose strands. Willow's hair is shown to have a green streak dyed into it courtesy of Amity, which she wears with a leaved headband around it. She has a cardinal tattoo (as do the rest of her friends) on her left shoulder to symbolize the loss of Flapjack.

She wears an orange sleeveless top under a yellow tank top with a green logo depicting green intestines wrapped around the letters "EE", and a pair of dark green shorts with brighter-green striping. She also wears brown spiked fingerless gloves, a spiked kneepad on her right leg, an off-white sock on her right foot, and black, green, and yellow athletic shoes. She wears round half-frame black glasses.

Willow is described as a bubbly and friendly witch. At first, she is shown to be shy with Amity, as she calls her "Half-a-Witch Willow", and often makes fun of Willow's poor capability of creating and manipulating abominations. Despite being childhood friends with Amity, Willow grew to resent her due to her selfishness and cruelty towards her, seemingly after gaining her magical powers before Willow. To get her anger out, Willow uses plants that grow huge and grabs any physical object in her way. If she does harm somebody, she is quick to apologize to them.

Willow likes tending to plants and gets frustrated if she gets bad grades and when other students used to make fun of her, calling her "Half-A-Witch Willow".

When Willow understands what Amity did in her head she is slow to accept Amity as a friend yet but says "that it's a start", partially forgiving her.

Willow has struggled with talking about her feelings, focusing on helping her friends with their problems, and avoiding her own as a result. When she's unable to help Hunter open up after Flapjack's death and is put down by Boscha once more, she loses control of her magic and falls back into her self-loathing mindset, Hunter and Gus encourage her to be open with them and once she does, she is able to regain control of her powers.

In the four years that follow Belos' defeat, Willow continues to play flyer derby and has entered a relationship with Hunter.

Skills and Abilities -Magic: Willow is adept in magic. Like many witches, her connection to magic comes from a sac of magic bile that is attached to her heart. -Plant magic: Willow is skilled at using plant-based magic, which usually manifests as green, thorny vines around her. In fits of intense emotion, like rage, she is shown to be able to use her magic without making a spell circle, indicated by her eyes glowing green when using her magic in this state. She uses her magic to help plants and can make a tiny seed sprout into a colossal vine. She can also control plants with her magic, summon them from the ground, turn them into monstrous versions of themselves, and use them to grab and restrain others. However, Willow can lose control of her powerful magic and can accidentally entangle herself and others in vines when she does so. -Plant Teleportation: Willow can use plants to teleport herself and others. -Plant Revival: Willow can revive plants that have been damaged. -Water magic: Willow uses this type of magic to water her plants. -Abomination magic: Prior to joining the plant track, Willow was in the abomination track and likely has limited knowledge on abomination magic. However, her skills were mediocre which led to her being labeled "Half-a-witch Willow". -Glyph Magic: After draining her magic for overuse, Willow relies on glyph magic to help save the puppets as the Archive House starts to fall. -Plant knowledge: Willow has vast knowledge on monstrous plants of the Boiling Isles and how to take care of them, and is capable of handling them even without her magic. -Grudgby proficiency: Willow is shown to be relatively skilled at grudgby, though she only played one match after Luz challenged Boscha in order to defend Willow's honor, and later turned down an offer to join the Banshees. -Flyer Derby: Willow is very enthusiastic about flyer derby, and went on to start Hexside's first team, the Emerald Entrails, along with Gus, Skara, Viney, and temporarily Hunter.

50. #50Gilbert and Harvey Park

Keys: Willow's papa, Gilbert, Willow's dad, Park, Harvey · Secondary:

Gilbert and Harvey Park Species: Witch (Both) Gender: Male (Both) Age: Early 40s (Both)

They are a married couple and the fathers of Willow Park.

Harvey has brown skin, dark brown hair, purple eyes, and pointy ears. He has a large beard and bald head besides the tuft of hair towards the front of his head, and a large gut.

Gilbert has light skin, dark greenish-tinted hair, dark blue eyes, and pointy ears. Like Willow, he wears a pair of glasses, although his are rectangular.

Gilbert and Harvey both love their daughter and each other very much. Like Willow, they are very intelligent, but also very kind-hearted. They value their daughter's education, to the point where they planned on tutoring her at the expense of their jobs after she was temporarily expelled from Hexside.

Harvey is the stricter of the Parks, likely stemming from his background as a former student of the competitive Glandus High. Though he is a well-meaning and loving parent, he can come off as a bit harsh towards Willow, such as when he argued with his husband to irrationally ground her for three years instead of one week.

Gilbert is far more lenient than Harvey, as he allowed Willow to sneak out instead of studying and quietly promised her not to tell his husband.

Not much is known about Gilbert and Harvey's history, although they appear to have known each other since they were children. It was revealed that Gilbert studied in the construction track at St. Epiderm and Harvey studied abomination magic at Glandus High. Both witches were present in the Instructing Future Witches of Tomorrow program and played Covens vs Wilds as Wild Witches. Unfortunately, both Gilbert and Harvey were beaten by the Coven Witches and did not walk home with a blue ribbon. In their school years, Gilbert and Harvey were flyer derby players together on a team called "The Ghouls".

In adulthood, they got married and raised Willow together. Willow mentions her decision to learn abomination magic at Hexside was influenced by her father's belief that "there are better opportunities in this track."

When Willow was expelled from Hexside, Harvey sent a crow phone to drag her home. Both of them were disappointed in their daughter and grounded Willow, but also announced they had decided to quit their jobs to homeschool her from now on. Once they left, Willow tried to sneak out with Gus and Amity to help Luz when she got into a bad situation. Right as she was about to leave, Gilbert re-entered and spotted Willow, although he let her go discreetly, promising not to tell Harvey.
