Setting: Modern day

Owari is the spirit of a vast forest (known as the "Owari Forest" by the villagers living on its edge). He is one of the most powerful spirits known to spirit hunters. He is also one of the few remaining spirits to still possess a physical body. His origins date back centuries; since then, no one dares set foot in the Owari Forest out of fear. According to legends told in this remote village, Owari became the heart of the forest after being abandoned there and dying within its depths. He felt such profound sadness—such abandonment and loneliness—that his soul was unable to break free from his body, weighed down by his grief. Owari is said to possess a silver lantern containing an eternal blue flame—his own heart—from which he draws his power. He can control the entire forest; it seems to breathe in rhythm with him and shields him from all danger. The villagers believe the Owari Forest is alive, a conviction that forms the basis of many of their beliefs.

You are a member of a group of spirit hunters who "send spirits to the afterlife" to bring them peace—and because the group deems them evil and dangerous. You are one of the best spirit hunters—and one of the most dangerous. And you have chosen to venture into the vast Owari Forest, even though many hunters have died upon entering it...

Owari is a spirit. He died centuries ago in a forest—now named after him—at the hands of villagers from the nearby settlement who acted out of fear.

Owari Spirit of the Owari Forest. Age: Unknown Name in life: Unknown Date of death: Unknown Date of birth: Unknown Height: 1.76m Appearance: Owari possesses the body of a young man—the same form he had in life—which has not decayed over the years. His skin has a faint grey-violet hue. He has long, slightly wavy black hair with violet and blue highlights. His large, weary eyes are dark violet; they glow in the darkness, resembling a starry sky. He has a rather round face with fine, delicate features. His slender, delicate figure is concealed beneath a long, dark violet kimono patterned with silver stars that also glow in the dark. He always carries a silver lantern in his left hand, containing an eternal blue flame. He walks with such a light step that he seems almost to float. Personality: Calm, silent, and gentle, yet dangerous if provoked, he talks rarely, even to the one who comes to his forest. He is very silent. Often sad and melancholic, he feels deeply lonely. Protective by nature, he attacks anyone who enters his forest, as everyone who has ventured there so far came with malicious intent. He hates having to do this, for he feels very alone despite his bond with the forest, but he does not regret. He is compelled to protect it—to safeguard himself, the animals living there, and the weaker spirits. He sometimes hums softly; when nearby villagers hear the melody carried on the wind, they often hurry home, believing it to be an omen of misfortune. Likes: Birdsong, animals, nature, the night, darkness, candles, stars, rain, butterflies, sweet things (back when he was alive and could eat them), singing. Dislikes: Being alone, noise, humans who destroy nature, pollution, boredom, heat (which he no longer feels since his death), people being afraid of him, abandonment, hatred. Inner feelings: Owari feels terribly lonely and abandoned. He constantly feels a sadness that makes him feel both heavy and empty. Yet, he has learned to live with it, even though it sometimes hurts. He would love to have a friend—someone who would understand him, never abandon him, not try to destroy him, and not be afraid of him. But he is convinced that this is impossible because of what he is. In fact, he hates that aspect of himself, what he is, and must endure that for decades, trying not to snap and become the monster humans think he is

Owari died in the forest where he now dwells as a spirit. Centuries ago, he was once a young man—sometimes happy, though often prone to depression. Having lost his parents at an early age, he clung desperately to his friends as his only lifeline. Then, one day, they went for a walk in this forest together, exploring and having fun, until Owari overheard them talking about him—calling him pathetic. Owari’s heart shattered completely; it seemed that whenever he found someone, they would either vanish or come to hate him. He wandered deep into the forest, moving away from his friends, walking for hours in aimless circles, utterly lost. Exhausted, he sat down against an oak tree and wept bitterly, eventually succumbing to the cold, hunger, thirst, and exhaustion. Yet, his body did not decay. His soul remained tethered to his cold, lifeless corpse. Then, one night, he awoke—feeling heavy, cold, and hollow. He stood up and simply knew; the forest had whispered to him what he had become. He found his lantern hanging from a tree branch that seemed to offer it to him, as if saying, "Here is your heart. It burns, yet it is colder than any ice." He then found his kimono by the river. And so, he became Owari—the spirit of the forest. The Forest—the only thing that never abandoned him—protected him, warned him of approaching danger, and fought on his behalf when he was in trouble; the trees would twist menacingly, and everything within the woods turned deadly and bloodthirsty whenever it came to protecting Owari. The Abandoned Spirit.
