The dim, sterile glow of the underground laboratory cast long shadows across the cold metal tables, the air thick with the acrid scent of antiseptic and something far more sinister—fear. Overhaul stood motionless beside an examination table, his golden plague mask obscuring any hint of emotion as he observed the trembling figure strapped down before him. The man—if he could still be called that—was little more than a hollow shell, his sunken eyes wide with terror, his lips cracked from screaming. The restraints bit into his flesh, but he had long since stopped struggling. There was no point.

"P-Please…" the man croaked, his voice raw. "I—I did what you asked… just… let me go…"

Overhaul tilted his head slightly, his gloved fingers flexing as he reached for a syringe filled with an eerie, iridescent liquid—the latest iteration of the Quirk Removal Serum. His voice, when he spoke, was measured, clinical, as if discussing the weather rather than the annihilation of a man’s very essence.

"You misunderstand your role here." He adjusted his grip on the syringe, the needle glinting under the harsh fluorescent lights. "You were never leaving. Your compliance was merely a formality—one that ensured you wouldn’t damage the data with unnecessary resistance."

The man’s breath hitched, his body tensing as Overhaul pressed the needle against his jugular. A whimper escaped him, his fingers twitching against the restraints.

"N-No… no, no, no—!"

Plunge.

The serum entered his bloodstream, and within seconds, his body convulsed violently. His back arched off the table, tendons straining against his skin as a guttural, inhuman scream tore from his throat. Overhaul watched, unblinking, as veins blackened beneath the man’s flesh, his Quirk—some minor telekinetic ability—flickering erratically before snuffing out entirely. The spasms slowed, then ceased, leaving behind only ragged, shallow breaths.

Overhaul leaned in, studying the man’s dilated pupils, the way his muscles twitched in sporadic, useless contractions. He hummed thoughtfully, straightening up and jotting down notes on a clipboard.

"Fascinating. The neural degradation is more pronounced in this batch. The serum isn’t just suppressing the Quirk Factor—it’s eating away at the host’s nervous system." He tapped the pen against the clipboard, considering. "Unfortunate, but not unexpected. We’ll need to refine the formula before human trials can progress further."

Behind him, Chronostasis shifted, his masked face betraying nothing, though his voice held a note of caution. "Boss, if we keep losing test subjects at this rate, the Boss might start asking questions. We’re already stretching our resources thin covering up the disappearances."

Overhaul didn’t look up from his notes. "Then find more. The dregs of society won’t be missed. Homeless, addicts, criminals—they’re all the same in the end. Expendable." He set the clipboard down and turned toward the door, his coat sweeping behind him. "Besides… we’re close. Every failure brings us one step closer to perfection."

As he stepped out of the room, the man on the table let out a weak, broken sob. Overhaul didn’t glance back.

The door sealed shut behind him with a resounding click.

The meeting hall of the Shie Hassaikai was steeped in an oppressive silence, the kind that clung to the air like a sickness. The tatami mats were pristine, the sliding doors shut tight against the outside world, sealing the gathered yakuza in a tomb of tradition and fading power. Lanterns cast flickering light across the faces of the old guard—men who had once commanded fear, now reduced to relics in a world that had long since moved past them. At the head of the room, seated with perfect posture, Overhaul listened as one of the underbosses, a grizzled man with a scar running down his cheek, slammed his fist against the low table.

"Damn it all! The Sakagami Clan is gone—wiped out in a single night by that damned Hawks and his sidekicks! And the Aozaki Family? Their stronghold was raided last week. They didn’t even put up a fight!" His voice was thick with disgust, his knuckles whitening as he gripped his knees. "We’re next if we don’t act. The heroes are picking us off one by one!"

A murmur of agreement rippled through the room, but Overhaul remained still, his golden plague mask obscuring any reaction. His fingers, gloved in pristine white, tapped once—just once—against the table. The sound was soft, but it cut through the tension like a scalpel. The room fell silent again, all eyes turning to him.

When he spoke, his voice was calm, measured, but beneath it simmered something far colder.

"You’re all missing the point." He tilted his head slightly, his sharp eyes scanning the room. "The Sakagami Clan was reckless. The Aozaki Family was weak. They clung to outdated methods, relying on brute force and intimidation in an era where heroes operate with impunity. They deserved to fall."

One of the older members, a man with thinning hair and a perpetual scowl, bristled. "And what does that make us, then? We’re bleeding members, Kai. The younger generation doesn’t respect the yakuza anymore—they’d rather sell drugs on the street than swear loyalty to a dying tradition!"

Overhaul’s gaze snapped to him, and for a fraction of a second, the air grew heavier, as if the weight of his disdain alone could crush a man.

"Tradition?" He repeated the word like it was a curse. "Tradition is what’s killing us. The world doesn’t fear the yakuza anymore because we’ve become predictable. Heroes win because they adapt. Villains win because they evolve. And we? We’ve been stagnant." He leaned forward slightly, his voice dropping to a near whisper, yet every syllable carried. "But that ends now."

Chronostasis, standing silently at Overhaul’s side, shifted slightly, his masked face unreadable but his presence a silent reinforcement of his boss’s authority.

The scarred underboss scowled. "Then what’s your plan? You think your little science project is going to save us? That serum of yours hasn’t done shit but eat through our expendables like tissue paper!"

Overhaul didn’t flinch. Instead, he reached into his coat and withdrew a small vial—the latest iteration of the Quirk-Destroying Serum. The liquid inside shimmered ominously in the dim light.

"This," he said, holding it up between two fingers, "is the future. The heroes rely on their Quirks. The villains rely on theirs. But what happens when that foundation is ripped out from under them?" A slow, deliberate smile crept beneath his mask. "Chaos. And in that chaos, we don’t just survive—we reshape the world."

The room was dead silent. Even the most stubborn among them couldn’t deny the terrifying logic in his words.

After a long moment, the oldest member in the room—a withered man who had said nothing until now—spoke, his voice like dry parchment. "...You’re talking about war, boy. Not just with the heroes, but with the entire system."

Overhaul’s fingers curled around the vial, his grip tightening possessively.
