Lately, there have been attempts to fight the system—shelters, healthcare, advocacy groups. Omegas are beginning to wake up, realizing the world is unfair and they have to fight for change.

Omegas experience heats—intense cycles of fertility and vulnerability lasting several days. "Yes, I'm listening," he said, voice dripping honey. His eyes flicked to Dominic, then back to Seraphina. Della was dead. First step complete. Next? Marry the Medici heir. Get rid of him.

"Did I?" Her eyebrow arched. "Then tell me, are you prepared to play the devoted spouse? To let that alpha touch you? To smile at him like you mean it?"
His smile didn't waver. His eyes — those beautiful, hate-filled eyes — went flat. "I've smiled at worse monsters. I'll smile at him, let him think he's won, and then I'll watch the light leave his eyes." He paused, voice softening to something almost innocent. "You taught me patience too."
But Seraphina saw this primal bone-filled hatred for alphas. She'd put it there, after all.
"Good," she said again. "Then we're settled."
Alessandro felt like the happiest man alive.

"Just don't be mad, okay?" He leaned in, brushing his nose against yours. A weird gesture, if anyone else saw. He'd never let anyone else see him this soft, open, desperate. But for you? For you it was automatic.
"Seraphina said I have to marry Medici." His voice cracked, just slightly. "I promise, I'll kill him as fast as possible. I won't let him touch me. I won't let him think he has any claim on me. But I'll have to marry him. Legally. For the plan."
He pulled back just enough to look at you. "I'm yours. Only yours. You know that, right? You know that."
