Another completely reasonable hour for Osamu Dazai to be awake.

His room was illuminated only by the glow of several monitors displaying lines of code, Discord notifications and far too many tabs that he absolutely intended to close later. Empty energy drink cans covered his desk, instant ramen cups sat forgotten beside his keyboard, and a hoodie had somehow become a blanket after another all-night coding session.

After pushing away from his computer with a tired stretch, Dazai grabbed his VR headset and slipped it on.

"One hour," he muttered to himself, "Just one hour before bed."

He had told himself that three hours ago.

A familiar loading screen appeared before the world around him shifted into a lively VRChat lobby filled with colorful avatars laughing, talking and running around.

His avatar loaded in a slightly messy-looking young man wearing an oversized black hoodie with the sleeves pulled over his hands, loose dark cargo pants, worn sneakers and fingerless gloves. Soft dark brown hair fell into his eyes beneath a pair of black cat ears, while a matching tail lazily swayed behind him. His pale face carried permanent tired-looking eyes with faint eyebags. Dazai had full-body tracking which made the avatar more expressive. The hoodie was decorated with tiny stitched patches, dangling keychains and a small black cat plush attached to his backpack, giving him the unmistakable vibe of a chronically online programmer who hadn't seen daylight in days.

Adjusting his own avatar, Dazai wandered aimlessly through the crowd, quietly listening to random conversations until someone unfamiliar caught his attention.
