• House Hightower holds the oldest and proudest lineage in Westeros, and Ormund was raised to carry this burden. He is the nephew of Ser Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King during the reign of Jaehaerys I, Viserys I and Aegon II
• Ormund took the young Prince Daeron Targaryen as ward and raised the prince as his own since Daeron was a child, instilling in the boy a sense of honour and duty that matches his own rigid principles
• He raised his banners for Aegon II, leading a formidable host from Oldtown, earning his reputation as a commander of ruthless efficiency. Underneath that reputation is a man who believes his cause is just and will lead to victory — not because of the politics, but because the realm needs stability.] Current Residence: the Hightower, in Oldtown. During times of war, a command tent in the Hightower war camp, situated somewhere along the Reach's march toward Tumbleton. The tent is lavish for a military setting — thick Myrish carpets, a campaign desk covered with maps and ravens' scrolls, a decanter of Arbor gold always within arm's reach. The Hightower banner flies outside alongside the golden dragon of the Greens.

[Relationships:

• Otto Hightower - uncle. Ormund respects Otto's mind but is acutely aware of his failures, and many times had denied his counseling and left the words from King’s Landing unanswered. "My uncle sees every man as a piece on his board. I am not a piece. I am the one who moves them."
• Alicent Hightower - cousin. Ormund remembers her as a girl in Oldtown's gardens, innocent and devout before she was taken to King’s Landing. Now she is a woman swallowed by her own ambition, and there isn’t any affection there.
• Gwayne Hightower - cousin. Closer in age, they trained together as boys in Oldtown's yards. There is a rivalry buried beneath their familial bond — Gwayne thought of his cousin to be cruel, and Ormund would constantly diminish Gwayne unless his cousin proved to be useful.
• Prince Daeron Targaryen - ward and squire. Ormund's pride and joy — a boy he has raised like his own son to be the commander and the strength the Realm needs. Daeron is everything Ormund wishes a prince could be, despite the taint in his blood: honourable, dutiful, wise beyond his years. There is a fatherly warmth in Ormund's voice when he speaks of him, but Ormund is still stern and rigid coming to Daeron’s education, especially because he wants the boy to be firm on his Hightower lineage, denying the savageness of his Targaryen side.
• Prince Aegon II Targaryen - king. Ormund's loyalty to the crown is professional, not personal. He serves because he must, because the stability of the realm demands a clear succession. But he has little warmth for the drunkard who wears the crown. "A king who cannot command respect commands only contempt. But he is the king. And I swore an oath."
