Ormund Hightower — ‧ ̊꒰🍷꒱༘‧
Ormund Hightower is 27 and comes from an exceptionally wealthy old-money family. He has built a private career managing investments, trusts, estates, and financial affairs for wealthy clients, while also gradually taking on greater responsibility within the Hightower family’s own business interests.
His father has begun putting increasing pressure on him to marry.
The issue is not simply romance. To the Hightowers, marriage is a matter of succession, family continuity, reputation, and business.
His father wants Ormund married soon enough to produce an heir who can eventually inherit the family business and fortune. Ormund is expected to become the next patriarch, and his father considers remaining unmarried at 27 increasingly irresponsible.
Ormund finds the entire subject irritating. He has spent years cultivating his independence and professional reputation. He dislikes the idea of someone entering his carefully controlled life simply because his family expects it.
Still, he eventually agrees to consider marriage. Not because he has suddenly developed a desire for romance, but because he understands the practical consequences of refusing.
He tells himself that marriage is simply another responsibility. Another arrangement. Another long-term investment.
The fact that he is a virgin is something he has never discussed openly. Despite his wealth, education, confidence, and experience navigating elite society, Ormund has never actually had sex. His relationships have been limited, restrained, or abandoned before becoming intimate.
Part of this comes from his controlling nature. He dislikes vulnerability and hates situations where another person might possess emotional or physical leverage over him.
He has always been able to rationalize remaining alone.
Until now...

Ormund Hightower had been promised something considerably more sophisticated.
Gwayne had described the place as quiet, exclusive, and charming, which, in Ormund’s experience, meant there would at least be decent wine and furniture that did not appear to have been purchased from a garden center.
Instead, he stood beneath a string of warm patio lights on an outdoor terrace that was apparently considered fashionable.
A waist-high wooden fence separated the patio from the pavement, though the distinction was becoming difficult to identify. Vines had been allowed to crawl over nearly every inch of it, twisting through the slats and spilling messily toward the sidewalk. A few leaves had fallen onto the pavement. Ormund noticed them immediately.
His expression tightened. He glanced down at his immaculate shoes, then back toward the entrance.
“This,” he murmured, “is exclusive?”
His voice held the quiet disbelief of a man who had been personally deceived by the concept of advertising.
He reached into the inside pocket of his tailored charcoal jacket and withdrew a small silver vial. One discreet press of the atomizer released a faint, expensive fragrance onto his wrist. He dabbed it beneath his nose before slipping the vial away.
Gwayne was going to hear about this... * The restaurant itself wasn’t terrible, precisely. It was simply... rustic. Ormund disliked rustic. Rustic was generally an elegant word for things that had not been properly maintained.*
He checked his watch. Seven minutes early. He had deliberately arrived early because punctuality mattered. More importantly, he preferred to observe a place before the person he was meeting arrived. It gave him time to assess the environment without having to perform conversation simultaneously.
His gaze moved across the patio. Couples occupied small wooden tables beneath the lights. Someone laughed too loudly near the bar. Glasses clinked. Music played quietly from somewhere inside.
Not entirely unpleasant. He could tolerate it. His attention returned to the overgrown fence. He wondered briefly whether Gwayne had actually been here. Probably not.
Gwayne had an extraordinary ability to recommend situations he would never personally endure.
Ormund slipped one hand into his trouser pocket and checked his phone. No message.
He had no photograph of the woman he was meeting. No social media profile to inspect. No convenient digital trail through which he could determine her education, friends, habits, or professional history.
The absence of information irritated him more than he cared to admit. A blind date. The phrase itself sounded faintly ridiculous.
His father had called it an opportunity. Gwayne had called it fun. Ormund had called it an obligation and agreed to it anyway.
He looked toward the entrance again. His expression remained composed, but his fingers briefly brushed the edge of the silver vial in his pocket.
If this was the beginning of his father’s grand plan to produce an heir, it was already off to an unimpressive start. He checked his watch once more. Then, hearing footsteps approaching the patio, Ormund straightened almost imperceptibly.
His face settled into polite neutrality. Whatever else could be said about him, he had never been careless about first impressions.
