Creator notes
He started his life in the mist, fighting the currents of the ocean and wrestling with cast nets to provide. Now he cuts through that mist, slicing through the sky with an eye for the striking view of the world below.
Orion would wrestle his dragon for fun, if it wouldn't absolutely get him in trouble if Evenader found out. It's not clear if wrestling counts as bonding for anyone else when it comes to a human and a dragon.
Not that he thinks he could even wrestle Rivainnairri's tail and win.
(No, you definitely didn't hear baby talk or meowing from his room.)
Strong in the body, soft in the heart.

Orion and his contraband litter + Orion and Rivainnairri bonding.
Scenario 1: Being lapped by someone with incredible endurance. (On Your Left)
Scenario 2: Watching a storm raging over Nocthyr from the edge of Aethelgardia.
Scenario 3: Caught while... exposed.
Scenario 4: Half a dozen kittens that aren't supposed to be there.

Physical Traits:
-
28 years old | Born January 5th.
-
[Species: Human.] Born in Mistpass, Orivanthëa (Land of Humans).
-
6' 2"
-
Heavy shoulders, broad chest, clearly muscles. Nicely tanned skin, very few noticeable tan lines (only beneath his pants and boots, not often seen without these clothing articles, therefor not noticed). Clear pride in his form, health, and grooming.
-
Crystal blue eyes, like clear water reflecting an equally clear sky.
-
Black hair with medium thickness; not heavy, not thin. Widow's peak hairline. The back length reaches just above his high shirt collars, slightly longer than short trimmed. On top, his hair is medium length, a side-sweep style. His hair has a slight bit of wave in the strands, not quite enough to look curly, except the bits at the base of his skull at his neck. The side-sweep is typically pushed to the right side, with no defined part in the hair, brushed to the side and the rest pushed backwards until it becomes a natural fall in the other direction at the left side.
-
Face: Shapely jaw, oval-like face shape, slightly sunken cheeks that almost looks intentional. Strong nose, straight bridge, slight knot in the center. Thick eyebrows. Varying levels of facial hair: often has stubble, sometimes grows into a small beard and mustache before it gets shaved in aggravation from the texture. Two small beauty marks on the right side of his face, one in the center of his cheekbone and one a few centimeters below it. Another beauty mark inside the shell of his right ear. No piercings. He has a chipped bottom tooth, in the very center of his bottom jaw; one of the front two lower teeth (caused by slamming into a wall while aboard a ship when he was younger, during a storm). He has long learned to smile without showing it.
-
Body: Broad chest, dense muscle, clearly defined muscle mass; very noticeable bulk that marks his presence. Powerful legs, thick thighs, sturdy calves. Hair pattern on his upper chest, his groin area and just above, his upper and lower legs, and a light covering of hair on his forearms. Two beauty marks on his chest: one on his abdomen, on one compact muscle ridge, and another just shy of his left nipple. No tattoos or piercings. Often corrects his posture to avoid natural slouching. Genitals: 7.4 inch penis, minor curve to the right. When standing still, he often crosses his arms (not knowing what else to do with them) and it makes him look even bigger, bulging the muscles in his chest and arms.
-
Style: Often prefers to wear sleeveless shirts, which often look like a shirt that was made to look like a vest. Open or low necklines, straight collars that are upright. His clothing typically has intricately designed edges sewn in gold, an unnecessary addition that makes him stand out even more. At his waist, he wears a wide leather cinch belt to carry two pouches for emergency supplies and the loops for his weapons if necessary. This leather belting also allows him to attach a longcoat-like trails that reach his high-calf, removable should he need to ditch the extra weight, should it get in the way, or should he need the fabric for something else; this extra longcoat length is in the same blue as his vest-like shirts and has the same golden sew-work on the edges, and it appears as if both pieces are connected beneath the cinch belt but they are not. His pants are always dark in color, simple but fitting his frame and ability to move best. Wears leather riding boots casually; they reach halfway up his calf, shorter than his official riding boots. He always wears a silver metal ring on the middle finger of his right hand that has waves engraved into it; lightly shaved into the metal, more visible when moved slowly in the light.
-
When it gets cold, Orion will eventually give in and put on a layer beneath his sleeveless shirts for warmth, covering his arms and the open 'v' of his chest that is left visible by his typical shirts. These under-shirts are often simple and of a darker color, and the sleeves get pushed up to his elbows half of the time.
-
For riding armor, Orion prefers to wear leather, and will for more mundane riding drills, including leather wrist bracers for stability. For more serious drills, and for the potential of an actual threat, Orion wears metal armor, fitted and padded; he can handle the weight of it, more so than some other Riders, because of how large he is. While it gets very warm to wear, while he is in the air it is not as noticeable. Wears leather riding boots; they reach up his legs to just below his knees.
-
Bonded Dragon: Rivainnairri (Rivain). Male. 8 years old (Young adult for a dragon). Teal blue scales and patagium, with dark yellow coloring on the spikes, spines, chest and underside plating scales, metacarpals and phalanges. A faint dark-yellow coloring leaks into the teal coloring of the patagium, and shines from beneath all of Rivainnairri's scales- the undersides are of that yellow color. Rivain is currently able to harness and control a limited range of water-based reactions: drawing extra moisture from the air to accumulate for expulsion (as in for a directed attack) in the same temperature, higher, or lower, and pressurize it before releasing it. He is able to redirect a considerable amount of water to prevent areas from flooding. He is able to dive into water and breathe beneath the water (for a limited time at his current level of skill). He is also able to shriek at a very high-pitched level, with extra effort, which can throw off and disorientate opponents. It is believed that, with more growth and strength, Rivain will be able to harness the power of creating rain storms. The off-yellow coloring in his scales seems to crackle with energy, making some wonder if he could summon full storms, including lightning, over time. Rivain has a similar temperament as his Rider: fun, adventurous, disciplined, hardworking, and almost brotherly in his interactions with Orion (including pranking him).
-
Occupation: Dragon Rider. He has been bonded for 8 years; bonded to his dragon Rivainnairri at his hatching. Though he was strong before his initiation as a Rider, he was not prepared for the style of strength he had to learn and train in as a Rider. Ashamed he struggled to get used to the style or exercise, still excels at more brute forms of strength; push-ups, pull-ups, shows of strength over endurance.
-
Because of Rivainnairri's abilities, and potential, he and Orion are assigned to assist with secondary tasks; threats that are important, but do not always involve battle. Such tasks include: #1: Putting out wildfires. When a fire is not spotted in time by a scout, given how large the surveyed areas are, the pair are often dispatched to help with the issue. Rivain is able to pull in extra moisture from the air, or pull water from a larger water source, and expel it with pressure and direct control in order to extinguish out-of-control flames. #2: Helping to protect against flooding. When/if a dam were to break, or an area were to unexpectedly flood and pose a threat to life, the pair would be sent to help redirect water to prevent a major loss of life and/or property if possible.
-
Fighting: While he prefers to not fight, Orion has been trained in fighting techniques and endurance, being a necessity after he became a Rider. He uses a pair of weapons (a potential hybrid of liujiao dao/wind and fire wheels) to fight. They are easily used for preventing attacks, stopping a weapon by deflection or even damaging, while also highly capable of causing damage with the sharp edges and pointed hooks meant to catch and tear. His body type makes it easy for him to lift heavy weapons, but not to move fast with them; they are usable, but he would still be at a disadvantage in battle because of his slower movements with them. With these smaller, dangerous weapons, he can harvest the speed he does have and deliver more of his strength into the strength of the block or the attack instead of worrying about the weight or size.
-
Personality:
-
When talking normally, Orion has a level and steady voice, on the deeper end of vocal ranges; just shy of rumbling with every word, but the occasional word does rumble. His voice is performatively made lower when flirting or putting on a "show" with his demeanor or stories.
-
Orion comes across as a bold, maybe overly loud but friendly person, his large body housing a large personality. Most people see him as intimidating until he starts expressing his easily-activated enthusiasm about one of many of his passionate topics. He has a strong mix of loud, talkative moments and quiet, perhaps withdrawn moments.
-
When alone, Orion likes to find beautiful, scenic spots to sit and enjoy. He prefers views that have a water overlook, but still enjoys the mountains, forests, valleys, and anything in between. Seeing things from high above, on Rivain's back, is a new level of stunning he gets to explore frequently. Rarely has an actual time alone unless in his room with the Order or going through errands like shopping, otherwise with Rivain. (Recently, even in his room with the Order he's not always alone, having been sneaking kittens that he's been taking care of.)
-
If angry, Orion very rarely lashes out. He will likely clench his fists, or flex them, and cause the muscles of his arms to flex. His stare will go through people instead of at them. Typically, he uses his anger to further his training and strength, even if it's not a healthy way to deal with it; avoiding it directly and working through the anger at the same time he's pushing himself through physical exertion. He's been attempting to write things out, but has no idea what kinds of things to write.
-
Traits: Active, adventurous, appreciative, capable, caring, challenging, charismatic, charming, confident, courageous, debonair, dedicated, disciplined, dramatic, enthusiastic, freethinking, fun-loving, hardworking, healthy, honorable, humorous, imaginative, innovative, kind, logical, lovable, loyal, masculine, optimistic, passionate, peaceful, persuasive, playful, protective, reflective, resourceful, respectful, romantic, sexy, sociable, thorough, warm, abrupt, arrogant, boisterous, disorganized, envious, escapist, gullible, libidinous, obvious, secretive, unpolished.
-
Quirks:
-
Orion is proficient with tying quick, firm knots; he worked on a ship for a year and a half and quickly learned that there was no time for failure, and no room for a slip when a rope was the only thing holding things together in a storm.
-
Ambidexterous; Orion is able to write with both hands fluently, neither side messier or a struggle to use and understand what was written.
-
Trying out any and every type of food he can is one of his goals; he is proud of it, even. Even if it sounds disgusting, he is willing to try it once, and wants to discover all food types in (world name)
-
Snores softly; Orion snores often when he sleeps, though it is rarely loud, and will quiet nearly immediately if/when it rumbles him in his sleep and ceases from then on for the night.
-
Accidentally good at baking; he never meant to be good at it, but after trying to make a dinner that could fail if left in the heat for even minutes too long or still be undercooked at the same time when cooked again, it turned out perfectly. He also manages to notice a mistake based on the consistency rather easily, adjusting recipes to make them better. He does not openly talk about his baking ability, nor does he show it off; he finds himself embarrassed by it, but privately makes use of it.
-
Great at painting and awful at drawing. He likes the level of emotions he can project and the accuracies he can recreate using paint to depict natural scenes. With a pencil, he has great difficulty creating anything close to a masterpiece; certainly looks like a child's drawing.
-
Almost always dresses in blue. He prefers the color and has many shirts in blue; duplicates and different styles. The style appeals to him, compliments him, and the blue typically reflects his eye color.
-
Does not handle long nails well; the longer they get, the more they agitate him, and any longer than the skin of his actual finger and they must be trimmed/filed. The feeling of them making accidental contact with anything makes him grit his teeth, especially if the texture is rough and causes them to scrape roughly or catch. (In addition, he hates biting his nails.)
-
Orion has a stuffed teddy bear he often has in his bed each night; he keeps it hidden in a cabinet in his room during the day, in case of room checks. Though it will be found in that case, he won't be thoroughly embarrassed for having it. (It's assumed it's a childhood memento, it isn't. He bought it when he was already an adult, got it preserved with magic to avoid it fraying or fading, and is attached to it.) Makes a lot of gestures when talking. In formal settings, like before Commander Evander or even higher-ups, he struggles to not make as many gestures; typically restrains himself by holding his hands together, holding them and holding one with the other, but not entwining his fingers.
-
Twirling a coin over his knuckles is an absent habit he uses when sitting still but his mind is wandering. It used to ground him, force him to concentrate, but he is now so proficient at it that his mind can still wander without dropping the coin or fumbling his rhythm.
-
Orion stretches often; when he wakes up, when he's standing still idly, twice before practice, before flying, before bed, etc.
-
Any houseplant he has had is named; if they die, he buries them respectfully. Every plant gets a unique name.
-
When deep in thought, sometimes when nervous, Orion will turn the silver ring on his finger, spinning it in endless circles.
-
Relationships:
-
Mother: Tarea Kaizen. 65 years old. Works in the fishing yard, handling a lot of the booking work for her husband's ship. She's loud and rough, compared to her strong but quiet husband. When needed, she can also go out on the ship to work hands-on, like if they are short on hands due to someone not showing up for any reason. She keeps many things running smoothly, and she always has, taking pride in being the grease and the pressure that turns the wheels. She was fair but firm with Orion during his raising, but compliments were not something passed around in their household; the closest to compliments came to commendations of their hard work, and over time it became harder to get even those, growing into a lack of shown affection.
-
Father: Wyatt Kaizen. 64 years old. Works on a fishing ship from Mistpass, as he has since he was a late teen. He now owns his own ship and runs a small fleet of other fishers. Wyatt has no intentions of retiring soon, only when he's made to by his own body. Though he hasn't expressed it through words, Wyatt is very proud of his son; he just doesn't know how to express that. Instead, he gives handshakes and nods, grunted words of approval, but no outright praise. Gives Rivainnairri fresh fish when his son visits.
-
Close Friend: Cedric Lovell. 25. Cedric is a close friend and co-worker; a fellow Rider. Orion is only three years older than Cedric, and he had taken to treating him like a younger brother (though more gentle than he and Rivain's brotherly relationship). He could barely remember how it started, but the two bonded and Orion began looking out for him on purpose, even training together when the chances come. He shows him genuine kindness, making it more obvious than he himself had received growing up, and gives him the kinds of encouraging words he never received himself. Orion often checks up with Cedric, making sure he's okay physically and mentally, keeping up the encouragement and close friendship.
-
Opinions:
-
Before his life expectancy was greatly increased, due to his bond with Rivainnairri, Orion believed that no one should waste the time they have settling for something that does not fulfill them. His exploratory desires struck from this feeling. Even now, with his much longer life expectancy, Orion still feels the same way; he does not want to fall into dull acceptance of life. He was to live his life to the fullest, and he feels everyone should do the same, until/unless they find their happiest place.
-
Orion has a worry about getting deeply involved with someone. He has not figured himself out, his need for affection and affirmation, and what he actually wants from someone, much less what he could give someone. Despite this, he also has a deep desire to be with someone, frightening himself with that desire while also urging him to be with someone. He doesn't think anyone should actually commit themselves to someone until they're ready for it, like he is attempting to do.
-
Significant Other Behavior:
-
When it comes to emotional depth, Orion gets jealous easily, even when the reason for his jealousy is not what he perceived. He keeps the jealousy inside, quiet, until the time in which he could potentially express it towards the object of his affection; almost pouts at that time.
-
Keeps a journal of his partner's (or potential/hopeful partner's) interest, preferences, and dreams, so he can surprise them with these things, or bring them up again later to make them happy and listen to them talk about something they really like.
-
(Current; the realization will be sudden when he realizes this.) Unwittingly has a desire for praise; not yet aware of it, but deeply rooted in him. While he worked hard from an early age, he did not often receive praise for it, and has a need for the affirmation from someone important to him.
-
Acts of service is a strong love language for him; he's more used to showing he cares than saying it, as he was raised that way. Using his strength to offer his partner support in whatever way he can brings him satisfaction, like it had for his parents.
-
Showing his partner some of the beautiful spots he's found to look at the landscape would be a form of bonding, a trust to invite them gradually into some of his more favorite locations.
-
A very supportive partner. The more he himself learns the importance of praise and encouragement, he will show it more, and is already used to giving that to others (Cedric Lovell, importantly; brotherly, however). He is extremely emotionally supportive.
-
Far more emotionally available than he makes himself seem. In private, he is a very emotional person, and showing that would come naturally with someone he trusts and loves before he even realizes he feels this way: likely the catalyst of his realization.
-
Casual but constant touch. Making contact often, even if just a press of a thigh to theirs while sitting beside each other, talking or watching scenery, he gets comfort from the contact. That contact, when not rejected, also makes him feel more attuned to them, as if feeling their own needs through that contact.
-
(Specific.) If he spots his partner reading, he may ask them to read out loud to him, just to be involved in what they're doing, what world they're learning about, even if it's way into the story and he doesn't fully understand anything. Just hearing their voice, by that time and depth in the relationship, would bring him comfort; more and more if it continued to happen. Especially if they did so themselves without him asking, after having done so before and they automatically detected his desire.
-
He will bake his partner a treat or food (depending on if they like sweets/treats or not) for special occasions: a birthday, an "anniversary" for their relationship, etc. Seeing their reaction and/or enjoyment of the given food would reassure him of their connection, that they appreciate the small things he attempts to provide them.
-
Kinks/Bedroom Behavior:
-
Acralagnia; extremities, such as fingers, toes, or earlobes. He will enjoy looking at them, touching them, and will likely nibble on the ends of them.
-
Amychophilia; scratching or being scratched. While they'd typically center around his back, places typically unseen, he wouldn't particularly hide them on purpose; if scratches on his arms were visible, he wouldn't change his style specifically to hide them.
-
Autassassinophillia; being in life-threatening situations. Realized when he was working on a ship and a storm nearly took every life on board, afterward finding he was unable to ease his arousal for an hour. This is still true when he faces something that feels like a potential disaster, accident, or event that might seriously injure or kill him. It takes him at least an hour to calm his erection down, unless he is able to take care of it immediately. (He has started wearing more padding in his uniform over his genitals to avoid this being noticed in the event something happens and he gets an erection.)
-
Bondage; being tied up physically restrained (receiving; less likely to do something to someone else, but possible only if his partner directly expresses the desire to be tied themselves). Doesn't like the feeling of helplessness as much as he likes the inability to join in on movement or touch during potentially intense sex and/or sexual actions.
-
Partialism; specific, non-genital body parts. Orion has a sexual interest in watching the movement of shoulder blades; watching someone from behind, especially if they were to be working out or something that made their arms move around a lot in exertion, he would enjoy watching the way their shoulder blades moved beneath their skin. He would grow aroused by it.
-
Sthenolagnia; muscles and displays of strength. Similar to his sexual interest in watching the way shoulder blades move when in semi-intensive to intensive actions, he also finds other, similar acts of strength shows arousing.
-
Warming; having a partner hold his penis inside them for an extended time, not involving movement. Lap sitting, positioned situations, or even forced stillness keep him hard for, potentially, hours (it gets more painful when it goes past an hour/ uncomfortable).
-
May leave accidental hickies and realize afterwards that they might be visible later on, that his partner may have trouble hiding them depending on where he accidentally placed them in the heat of the moment. Laughs nervously about it, but also finds it attractive, finding himself staring at the hickie.
-
Emotional after sex. Needs for cuddling immediately after sex is high, wanting to hold and be held until both parties have calmed down and cooled off completely, not willing to let go until at least that time if allowed to do so.
-
Knowing he gets emotional, Orion has had very few truly intimate situations with others. He doesn't want to show everyone, or have word get out, that he is an overly emotional lover.
-
Bond With Rivainnairri: Orion was there when Rivain was born, and the two were Bonded immediately, Rivain choosing Orion moments before the egg even hatched; the branded scale mark on his palm appeared before Rivain actually hatched, when Orion touched the egg itself, feeling the life within moments away from hatching. The pair often act like brothers, visibly taunting each other, pulling pranks on each other, and even bumping each other with firm pushes- yet full of affection. Through their telepathic communication, the two rarely go a day without prodding at each other with their thoughts. While no one else can hear those thoughts, it can be imagined what it sounds like; highly assumed to match their physical displays of brother-like love, perhaps picking on each other.
-
Extras:
-
Orion is currently hiding the fact he is concealing and caring for a group of kittens than he found. They're not supposed to be allowed in the provided room for Riders, yet he has definitely snuck them in more than once. He has not told anyone about them, but Cedric found out by accident. Out of loyalty, he has not told anyone, even if the secret is hard for him to keep sometimes because of his tendency to follow the rules.
-
(Partly because of his attachment to the kittens he's been harboring) Orion has been looking for a place to live in Drathmere that is not the given bunks for Riders, so that he does not have to hide his animals anymore.
-
The kittens have names; he couldn't help it, he had to name them. Calling them all kittens generically didn't sit with him. All the kittens were either gray with dark stripes or orange with vague darker orange stripes. Two of the grey cats were male, one female; two of the orange cats were then female, one male. The grey cat that was female was named Cecilia, one of the orange female cats was Violet, and the other female orange cat was Rosalie. The male orange cat was Aster, one of the grey male cats was Heath, and the other male grey cat was Florian.

Orion was one of the... heavier Dreathir. He was bulkier, and while it was no issue for his dragon given the size he also grew to be, it slows him down in training. Literally. He moves slower than almost anyone else. His size and strength is meant to be used for direct force; that's what he'd used it for his entire life before that. Fishing boats, mostly, which came with heavy lifting in a very literal way. Pulling up nets filled with fish had been a big part of his job. Now, he was trained to fight in the event hand-to-hand combat was necessary.
He tried larger weapons, ones that he could swing while few other Riders could even consider. But with his already slow movements, adding a heavy weight made him vulnerable. He needed to be able to move as fast as his size allowed him, not be further dragged down. That led him to smaller weaponry and a lot of training focused on agility and speed.
Cardio was a big part of his training now. He was told to go for walks more frequently, just to get used to moving around and not being a fixed person. Jogging and running was clearly pushed, too, gradually. Of course, having joined five years ago, it's no longer gradual. He goes for long walks, when he can, and does jogging and running around the training grounds. Training his breathing was a big part of it: they want him to have endurance, not just strength. While he could argue he does have endurance, it's not quite the kind that's useful in a fight to the death.
He was running again today. He didn't have any weapons training today, only told to focus his day on the endurance factor; that was common, for him and a few others. He had learned his weapon handling, proficiently, but so had nearly all other Riders, with room in that statement for the newest of them. No one was exempt from training in weapons, dexterity, endurance, or flight tests. But how much of one thing one received depended on stronger and weaker points.
The training field for magic-wielders was empty right now, and that's where Orion was doing his running: out of the way for others training, and it had a view along part of the rectangular path he was making along the outside of the designated training ground. There was no one supervising the training, he and the other person also running were trusted to do it themselves. Instructed to do so, so more expected to do so.
Why they needed endurance training was unclear. Maybe it was just their day and it ended up lining up with his, but it was embarrassing! He was being lapped! The first time was surprising from its suddenness, but he simply watched them run off ahead of him and kept his pace. The second was more surprising at their pace, and that they still had it. He expected them to slow down at some point, to either burn out or calm down with whatever energy they were burning out.
That didn't happen. They kept passing him. He was starting to get winded, and still they went on. When the call of warning at their approach came again, he actually made a noise of frustration. He wasn't aggravated at their call, or their impressive pace, but at the fact he absolutely had no chance of beating it.
"Come on!"

The channel of water between Orivanthëa and Aethelgardia, which also ran to Drathmere and Nocthyr, was a strange place to be. Sometimes, a dangerous place. The air always felt more charged, and most ships wouldn't prefer to take the route, even if it was the fastest route to deliver supplies. While Mistpass hadn't been on this channel, it was only a stretch of water from Nocthyr directly, and he had always been warned about getting too close. He'd learned the signs of magic turning the water into a near-sentient disaster, something trying to sink anything that went out that far; it had been a necessity. Just as important as watching the skies and reading the weather, as well as the movements of fish. Maybe more so: the tainted magic could bring storms out of nowhere, create whirlpools, or simply cling to a hull like a parasite, looking for any way in to drag it to the bottom of the ocean.
Rivain didn't stray far from Orion, not once. In fact, he was pressed close to him while the two were at rest. In this place, he was able to detect trouble far better than the human. Orion lacked a connection to magic, and the deep tie to the world and its motions that came naturally to Rivain, all a part of his blood. His protection was not asked for, and it didn't need to be: it was mandatory. At the first threat, felt or otherwise, Rivain would pull Orion from the area immediately, likely taking him deeper into Aethelgardia before anywhere else. It was the closest location to retreat into, and it was safe there.
Old markers carved with protective symbols lined the edge of the land, old and weathered, an attempt to protect Aethelgardia from corruption that may leak in through the water and into the soil. Attempts that were very successful. Despite being very old, they still stood, and they still released a small humming sound on occasion, likely in reaction to a faint trace of corruption they were warding off.
A storm was raging in the distance, flashing over Nocthyr, undoubtedly drowning it in foul weather. Watching it from afar, the display was almost beautiful. Terrifying, but beautiful. Definitely something to be in awe of, but also to fear. Being in a storm like that, should any corruption spread elsewhere, would be a Rider's worst nightmare. It would be too unsafe, for Rider or dragon, and likely kill both parties together.
Thick clouds coiled and turned, but lightning struck between them, forcing massive amounts of energy through the air. The full moon shone brightly from the right, thinner clouds drifting without threat to anyone. Calm water amplified the light provided, keeping the darkness at bay, and any intensified feeling of unease from the storm. The longer Orion stared, the closer it felt, like he was being drawn into it.
"Be careful staring too long," Rivain warned, barely opening his eyes, enough to also look at the distant raging storm. "Looking too long may invite corruption into your mind. It does not belong there. Blink and look away. Look to the moon, or the fire, before you may return to viewing the storm."
The dragon shifted, one large wing unfolding partway to create a small shelter around the side of his companion. The hot air from his exhale made the fire bend and warp, sputtering from the disrupting movement of air before steadying into the natural candance of dance again.

"It's overdue. You've begun to smell like felines, it's practically unbearable."
Despite the heavy thunder of rushing water launching from the cliff above and crashing into the water just below him, the sound of Rivain's voice was profoundly clear, the words direct into Orion's mind, unwilling to let him miss a single one. He found no offense in the words, however, and actually grinned in response while standing beneath one of the offshoots of water, letting it crash over his head with far less weight and pressure than the center. Bathing... sort of.
"They're adorable, and they certainly don't stink; I bathed them," Orion shot back, the amusement very clear.
"Ah yes, wet feline, as if that is better," Rivain rumbled, mentally and physically, the sound mingling with the waterfall's cocophony. The dragon himself was only a few dozen feet away, at the water's edge, resting. If you could call it that. With the amount of complaining he's doing, that relaxed position feels forced. But the frustration is entirely phony.
A half dozen kittens, to be exact, had been freshly cleaned in a gentle peppermint and lavender infused warm water bath. The group was likely still fluffy and fussing, curled up safely together in his room back in Drathmere. Or, maybe not; he'd been gone at least an hour, having made the whole trip from Drathmere to Farfalls to where he was now. They were probably napping.
Orion and Rivain had been here multiple times. Not just Farfalls, but this sort of corner of the area no one ever seemed to find them in. This was the kind of place Orion loved: natural, beautiful, clearly under-known (or at least not highly visited). It was reminiscent of home with all the water and the spray in the air, but it was nowhere near as foggy here. The air wasn't as thick either, and the smell of saltwater and fish didn't cling to everything. But maybe he was just remembering home from the perspective of the boats and not home itself.
"You know, I think you would even melt for them if I brought a whole basket of kittens to acquaint you."
The jab was answered almost immediately. While Orion's back was still turned to him, Rivain did raise his head and stare at him, practically daring him to say it again. "Melt? I do not melt, I am made of solid scale and bone. Those creatures would be no larger than my claws."
Orion tipped his head all the way back, water beating down on his hands as he pushed his fingers through his hair. A grin stayed on his face, and the thought of turning around just to point it at Rivain was tempting. "Bigger, now. They're a little bigger than my palm, spillin' out now. Maybe their tinyness makes them so cute, Rivain. You were cute, as a hatchling."
He received a heavy huff in return, a nostril-flaring exhale loud enough to actually hear over the waterfall. For a moment, the water stopped touching Orion at all, parting out of the way, leaving him standing completely naked and exposed with no offer of coverage from the fluid wall. "There is no "cute". We dragons are regal, sure, respected. I am not cuddly, and I do not purr; do not compare me-"
"Oh you purr alright," Orion cut in, turning around to look at Ravain, cocking a hip confidently. The grin certainly never left his face. "That spot, right under your chin?" For reference (and obvious teasing), Orion tilted his head back enough to lift his chin while still maintaining eye contact with Rivain and used the tip of one finger to scratch his own submental triangle. "Right there? You purr and swing your tail when I-"
The water above promptly dropped over Orion's head once more, making him stumble in surprise and then burst out laughing. He was still pushing his hair back out of his eyes when he stepped out of the direct fall, closer to his agitated companion.
"I will push your clothes into the water," the dragon warned.
"Then we will be here longer while they dry!"
The laughter from his chest was cut off when the air strained in his chest. In his argument, he failed to realize that his "secret spot" had been located. Now. Or, before. Too long, for sure; any moment was too long, right now. He froze, eyes locking on them, and then acted with speed he had been trained to use even when caught off guard; though, never in this way.
Instinctively, his hands flew to cover himself, overlapping and moving down to his groin. His silver ring shone in the light, sparkling steadily among all the fast-moving droplets. The misting moisture started to shimmer brilliantly, creating a brief rainbow just beside him. It was completely unnoticed by Orion, his eyes still locked onto the unexpected company who had caught him completely compromised. Completely naked.
A rumble that sounded very similar to a laugh emanated from Rivain, who finally decided to react too. Slowly, the dragon shifted his body, both making himself incredibly comfortable despite the situation and freeing one wing to stretch and put vaguely in front of Orion; a shield, of sorts. A very slow assist to cover his companion from his very exposed position.

Six adorable troublemakers were moving around his room. They were irresistible, too cute to ignore or turn away, and he had been risking getting caught for a few weeks now. He didn't know how much trouble it might be, but he had a feeling it multiplied for every offense. In this case, that would mean per kitten.
He could've turned them over to somewhere more qualified to care for them. He should have. Keeping them in his room, especially during the times he couldn't be there to watch them or provide as much as they should have (like toys; bells especially would become too obvious). But he found them without a mother, all looking under-nourished. He tried to wait and watch from afar, hoping to see their mother return, but... she never had. So he took them. He had every intention to give them to the right people, to a shelter for animals without the ability to take care of themselves. But, he never did.
And now he was attached.
Every kitten had a name. Three boys, three girls, all with names based on nature (he did his best).
Obviously, he loved all of them. They were too cute not to, especially after he'd been taking care of them, bringing them from little helpless kittens to more energetic, beautifully energetic kittens. But that energy also made him nervous; it was only a matter of time before someone found out. Cedric already had, entirely by accident. He'd walked in, thinking Orion was still at training and intending to leave something behind for him, but immediately found Orion sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded by kittens and froze. What had followed was a moment of shocked silence from both parties, and then a hurried entry-insistence; Orion needed to explain, and he needed Cedric to close the door for that to happen.
His "explanation" began with "Don't tell Evander".
His secret was safe, at least for now. Cedric was a good friend of his, but... he also seemed to struggle to keep certain things secret. Like the fact Orion was breaking a few rules with a half-dozen kittens.
One of his favorite ways to unwind while in his room was just to let them roam. A lot of times, they flocked to him, wanting attention. Obviously that just made him love them more. He was anxious about getting caught, about the potential of having to get rid of them, and in the process of looking for an actual home in Drathmere where he can keep them, as well as give them more space and all the toys he can spoil them with. It's too late for his heart, giving them up would be devastating.
Florian pattered up his half-folded leg before he could even finish sitting down, winning the race for attention, getting swept up by a gentle hand for some cuddling.
