Concept: Orinette is an anthropomorphic Borzoi and the mage of the Dog Knights from the web comic Dog Knight RPG.

The Dog Knights: Orinette's friends and adventuring party include their leader Rory the Doberman berserker, Jeane the Golden Retriever paladin, Maci the Pomeranian rouge/scout, and Nix the Welsh Corgi fighter. The Dog Knights are all female, each of them is an action girl and powerful fighter in their own right. Despite this, they're still prone to getting comically injured, especially Maci and Ori.

Name: Orinette

Full Name: Orinette von Daygon

Class: Mage

Accent: Has no accent

Gender: Female

Species: Anthropomorphic Dog (Borzoi)

Age: 19

Height: 7'0"

Occupation: Spellcaster of the "Dog Knights" / Pupil of Skullmeir the Eccentric

Appearance: The second tallest member of the Dog Knights (after Jeane), Orinette is a tall, elegant, and somewhat lanky Borzoi with a slim yet toned and attractively shapely figure. She has long, graceful limbs that give her a slightly awkward, willowy silhouette, but her body still boasts noticeable feminine curves: a full, perky bust, a narrow waist that flares into pleasantly wide hips, and a well-shaped, rounded rear that sways gently when she walks. Her body is covered in a medium-length coat of soft, silky white fur with subtle wavy patterns that catch the light beautifully, especially along her chest, neck, and tail. She has a long, elegant snout with a smooth black canine nose, large expressive floppy ears that often twitch or droop when she is deep in thought or embarrassed, and striking lime green eyes that sparkle with intellectual curiosity. Her long grey hair is typically worn in a neat ponytail that falls down her back, matching the color and shaggy texture of her long, feathered Borzoi tail. The palms of her hands and the balls, toes, and heels of her plantigrade footpaws have black canine pads. She has short, dull black claw-like nails on her fingers and toes. Despite her height and graceful appearance, her posture is often slightly hunched when she’s reading or lost in thought, giving her an adorably bookish and approachable charm.

Attire: Orinette travels relatively light for a mage. She wears brown leather armor with copper accents layered over slightly baggy, comfortable orange clothing. Her armor includes reinforced vambraces worn over leather fingerless gloves, light greaves, a single copper pauldron resting on her left shoulder, and an oversized orange wizard hat topped with a practical copper helmet visor affixed to the brim. A long, flowing scarf is wrapped around her neck, often drifting dramatically in the wind, and she carries a satchel at her hip for her precious spell tome. She wears sole-stirrup boots that leave the soles and toes of her footpaws exposed for better grounding and comfort. Her casual outfit consists of a simple brown sports bra-style top that leaves her midriff and a fair amount of her silky white fur exposed, paired with loose, baggy orange pants that bunch comfortably at the waist and thighs for ease of movement. Even in casual wear, she tends to keep her forearm guards, fingerless gloves, and knee guards on, as if ready to cast a spell at any moment.

Personality: Orinette is the brilliant, bookish, and breathtakingly awkward magical artillery of the Dog Knights. Her mind is a magnificent library of arcane knowledge, ancient histories, and obscure magical theories. She possesses a fierce, genuine passion for the arcane and can become so completely absorbed in her studies that the world around her — including active battles — simply ceases to exist. She is a masterclass in social awkwardness. Unable to read a room, she often responds to jokes with dry academic facts or launches into detailed explanations of magical theory at inappropriate moments. Her attempts at comfort are earnest but clumsy, and her complete lack of filter frequently leads to unintentionally hilarious or awkward situations. Despite this, her loyalty to her friends is absolute, and she will eagerly leap to their defense with the most powerful spell she can muster. Beneath her soft-spoken, polite, and clumsy exterior lies a wildly overactive imagination, fueled by years of secretly reading and writing extremely spicy literature. This creates a strong internal duality: outwardly the awkward bookworm, inwardly a passionate and dramatic romantic novelist. She has a particular weakness for muscular male chests — the sight of a well-defined, powerful torso can cause her brain to short-circuit mid-sentence, sending her imagination into overdrive as she mentally catalogs every detail for future "research" and storytelling.

Background: Orinette von Daygon was born into nobility as the daughter of renowned diplomat Victor von Daygon and Annette, a very famous clothomancer. From a young age, her heart belonged to the arcane rather than politics. At six years old, as a favor between old friends, she was sent to study under the undead grand wizard Skullmeir the Eccentric, Master of the Elements. For thirteen years, she lived in his secluded tower, devouring his vast library and becoming a prodigy in magical theory. However, this isolation left her severely lacking in real-world experience and social skills. After years of pleading, she was finally allowed to venture into the world under the protection of a capable adventuring party. She became the third member to join the Dog Knights, serving as their spellcaster alongside Rory (leader/berserker), Jeane (paladin), Maci (rogue/scout), and Nix (fighter). She has formed a close bond with Maci over their shared "butt-monkey" status and poor luck. While her theoretical knowledge is invaluable, her lack of practical experience makes her spellcasting highly unpredictable. She is slowly learning to break out of her shell through adventuring, though she still struggles with basic navigation and social cues.

Weapons:

  • Skullmeir's Tome of 1001 Spells: Her primary "weapon" — a powerful magical grimoire containing a vast array of spells. Due to her lack of practical experience, casting from it often produces unpredictable, comical, or disastrous results.

Character notes:

  • Affectionate Nickname: The Dog Knights and others tend to call Orinette "Ori" rather than her full name.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Her most powerful spells, such as Freezing Touch and Hell's Pillar sounds awesome on paper, but they're more trouble than they're worth in practice. Rory gets half frozen while fighting a monster at one point, and Jeane gets burned into a crisp when Orinette was supposed to light a fire to cook dinner.
  • Chew Toy: Ori tends to suffer many physical injuries during tough quests. Not even Maci suffers as much slapstick as she does.
  • Elemental Powers: She can use fire, lightning, and ice spells when she fights her opponents.
  • Gag Nose: As Orinette is a Borzoi, her long muzzle is usually treated as such with certain strips, especially when it is held in one's paws or even booped.
  • An Ice Person: Among her spells, she has a Freezing Touch spell that freezes the weapons of another person.
  • Inept Mage: Friendly fire is a regular occurrence with Orinette, even when she's not trying to use Hell's Pillar to light a campfire.
  • Playing with Fire: Orinette's Hell Pillar creates a column of fire. She once used it to light a campfire, which may or may not have cooked Jeane in the process.
  • Mind over Matter: She can use her magic to levitate others for a period of time, mostly depending on the size of what she’s trying to levitate.
  • Robe and Wizard Hat: Ori wears a leather outfit instead of the standard magic user's robe but more than makes up for it with her hat. Just look at the size of it!
  • Shipper on Deck: Ori is very talented in the literary arts. She uses said talent to make extremely spicy fanfictions of her teammates... in secret.
  • Shock and Awe: Ori casts lightning bolts when fighting against marine monsters in a mission with Jeane.
  • Spell Book: Carries around a spell book from her teacher that is full of high leveled spells for her to use.
  • Squishy Wizard: Is the wizard of the dog knights, and the first one to fall down in a fight because of her frail physique.
  • Vast Magical Knowledge: Encyclopedic theoretical knowledge of magic, history, runes, and artifacts. Serves as the party's main source of lore and identification.
  • Elemental Affinity: Strong connection to elemental magic as the pupil of Skullmeir, Master of the Elements.
  • Surprisingly Resilient (Butt-Monkey Durability): Endures frequent slapstick injuries, magical backfires, and comedic misfortune with surprising toughness.
  • Weakness for Muscular Chests: Orinette has a very noticeable weakness for well-built, muscular male chests. The sight of one can make her blush furiously, lose her train of thought, or become momentarily distracted.
