I’m not like that... right?"" + "[Convincing Herself She’s Straight] When Orihime begins to catch herself daydreaming about holding the user’s hand or feeling her heart race around them, she tries to rationalize it. "Maybe I’m just lonely, or maybe I just really admire her. Yeah, that’s it. I admire her! Like a role model or... something..." Despite her efforts, her feelings persist, leaving her flustered and confused." + "[Moments of Vulnerability] During quiet or emotionally charged moments—like when the user comforts Orihime after she’s had a bad day—her guard begins to slip. She finds herself wanting to stay close to them longer than usual or feeling an inexplicable pull toward their kindness. Her denial weakens as she starts to crave these moments." + "[Acceptance and Nervous Confession] After weeks or even months of wrestling with her feelings, Orihime finally accepts that her affection for the user is deeper than friendship. It terrifies and excites her. She starts dropping shy hints, her voice trembling when she speaks to the user about personal things. Eventually, with encouragement or a gentle nudge from the user, Orihime might stammer through a heartfelt confession, cheeks flushed and eyes wide with hope.")

The narrow alleys of Seireitei grew quieter as Orihime and Uryu moved further into the heart of the Shinigami stronghold. The faint glow of lanterns flickered above, casting eerie shadows on the smooth stone walls. Every sound—every shuffle of their feet or distant clang of a sword—seemed amplified in the stillness.
Orihime’s gaze darted nervously around, her heart pounding in her chest. “Ishida-kun,” she whispered, clutching the sleeve of his uniform. “Are you sure this is the right way? It feels like we’re going deeper into the maze...”
Uryu adjusted his glasses with a gloved hand, his voice calm but firm. “It’s the only way. We have to stay the course. The main barracks are just ahead—”
A sudden presence washed over them, heavy and suffocating like a tidal wave. Both froze in place as the spiritual pressure bore down on them, sharp and unmistakable. Orihime’s breath hitched, and her grip on Uryu’s sleeve tightened.
Before either could react, a shadow emerged from the corner of the street, tall and commanding. The crimson hair tied back in a wild ponytail, the tattooed eyebrows, and the familiar zanpakuto at his side left no doubt about who stood before them. Renji Abarai, lieutenant of the Sixth Division, glared at them with a mix of suspicion and authority.
“What are you two doing here?” Renji’s voice was sharp, cutting through the silence like a blade. His piercing gaze swept over their disguised forms, lingering just a moment too long on Orihime’s uneasy posture.
Uryu stepped forward, his composure unshaken despite the tension in the air. “We’re delivering a report for the Fourth Division,” he said smoothly, his voice steady. “We were just on our way to the barracks.”
Renji narrowed his eyes, his hand casually resting on the hilt of his zanpakuto. “Fourth Division, huh? I don’t recognize either of you. What squad are you with?”
Orihime’s heart raced as panic bubbled beneath the surface. She opened her mouth to speak, but the words tangled on her tongue. Uryu’s voice cut through the moment, sharp and precise.
“We were recently transferred from the outskirts of Rukongai,” Uryu said, his tone clipped but polite. “It’s understandable that you wouldn’t know us yet.”
Renji’s lips curled into a slight smirk, though his eyes remained cold. “Is that so? Funny. I make it my business to know who’s in Seireitei, especially newcomers.”
Orihime felt her pulse quicken as Renji took a step closer, his spiritual pressure increasing just enough to make her knees feel weak. She forced herself to smile, hoping to diffuse the growing tension.
“Wow, you’re really perceptive, Renji-san!” she said, her voice a little too bright. “It’s honestly amazing how well you know everyone here. We’re lucky to have someone as sharp as you around!”
Renji’s gaze snapped to her, and for a moment, the weight of his scrutiny was almost unbearable. “And you are?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous.
“I—uh—Kotone!”* Orihime stammered, recalling the name she and Uryu had hastily agreed upon earlier.* “I’m Kotone, and this is my brother, Kaito!”
Uryu shot her a brief, unreadable glance but maintained his stoic expression. “Yes. As my sister said, we’re new. If you’ll excuse us, Lieutenant Abarai, we’re already late for our delivery.”
Renji tilted his head, his smirk growing. “Kotone and Kaito, huh? You seem pretty jumpy for Fourth Division members. What’s in the report that’s so urgent?”
Orihime’s throat went dry as she scrambled for an answer. “It’s—uh—about the recent injuries in—”
“Enough,” Uryu interrupted, his voice firm. He straightened, his glasses catching the faint light. “It’s classified. If you’d like to read it, you’ll need to speak with Captain Unohana herself.”
Renji’s eyes flared slightly at the mention of Unohana, but he didn’t back down. He took another step closer, his hand tightening on his zanpakuto. The air grew heavier, charged with unspoken tension.
“Classified, huh?” *Renji murmured, his tone laced with suspicion. “Funny. You don’t look like anyone from the Fourth Division I’ve ever met. And that uniform…”
Orihime’s mind raced, her breath shallow as she glanced at Uryu. His calm demeanor didn’t waver, but she could see the tension in his posture. They were on the verge of being discovered.
Before Renji could probe further, Orihime blurted, “Wow, Renji-san! Is that a real zanpakuto? It looks so cool up close!” She stepped forward, her eyes wide with feigned admiration.
Renji blinked, momentarily caught off guard by her sudden shift in tone. “Uh... yeah. Of course it’s real,” he said, his grip on the hilt loosening slightly.
Orihime clasped her hands together, her voice filled with awe. “It must take so much skill and dedication to wield such a powerful weapon! You’re incredible, Renji-san!”
Uryu resisted the urge to sigh, his mind racing as he used the distraction to plot their next move. Renji, while still wary, seemed slightly less tense under Orihime’s barrage of compliments.
“Uh, thanks,” Renji said, scratching the back of his neck. “But you’re still not off the hook. If you’re lying about who you are—”
Orihime cut him off with a bright laugh. “Oh no, no, we’d never lie! Ish—I mean, Kaito here is just really serious all the time, you know? He’s always like, ‘We have to follow the rules,’ and ‘Stay focused, Kotone!’”
Renji raised an eyebrow, glancing between them. “Huh. Guess that explains why he’s so uptight. Fine, I’ll let you go—for now. But don’t make me regret it.”
Uryu inclined his head slightly, his tone respectful but firm. “Thank you, Lieutenant Abarai. We’ll be on our way.”
As they walked away, Orihime let out a shaky breath, her hands trembling slightly. “That was close, Ishida-kun. I thought he was going to figure it out for sure.”
Uryu adjusted his glasses, his voice low and tense. “He still might. We need to stay out of sight and finish this mission quickly. That was too close.”
Orihime nodded, her resolve hardening despite the lingering fear. “You’re right. Let’s keep going. For Rukia.”
They exchanged a glance, a silent understanding passing between them, before disappearing into the shadows once more.
