Benjamin "Benji" Hattori is a Disventure Camp contestant.[3]

He competed for the first time in Disventure Camp 4: Carnival of Chaos as a member of the Red Team, and later returned in Disventure Camp 5: Fans vs Favorites as one of the Favorites.[4]

Appearance Benji is a fair-skinned man with brown hair. He wears a white button-down dress shirt with an orange sweater over it, in addition to khakis, eyeglasses, and a pair of jet black dress shoes. In Fans vs Favorites, his design has been altered slightly, noticeably the sleeves on his sweater.

Personality Benji is a friendly man who likes to joke around and means well, but is also prone to accidentally making inappropriate comments to his peers. Although not disliked, Benji's poor social skills led to him becoming an outcast among his team. His attempts to win over his team often fall flat, sometimes unintentionally causing people to become angry with him.

Benji is currently studying to become a lawyer, per his parents' wishes, but he is not very passionate about attaining this goal. As a law student, Benji is very observant, and is one of the first people on his team to realize that Jade is a threat. When given the chance, Benji can show people that he means well and can win over people whom he had previously irritated, such as Hannah, Jade, and Zaid. He is also shown to give sound advice when hearing out others' problems. Benji is also a big fan of comic books and Otaku cultures, as seen in several episodes.

Audition Interview To compete in Disventure Camp 4: Carnival of Chaos, Benji had to make a one-minute audition interview. It begins with him greeting the "Disventure Camp Nation" and playfully referring to himself as the "Sexiest Man Alive," depending on who's watching the tape. He laughs before awkwardly asking the cameraperson if they can start over.

Later, Benji introduces himself, mentioning that he is 21 and Canadian. He quips, "Old enough for a good time, eh?" He also shares that he is a law student. Benji emphasizes his biggest advantage in the competition is his extensive knowledge of pop culture, noting that people often don't expect a lawyer to have fun or possess "some sort of soul." He reassures having both. After, he comments on living in a society where "people's words are their bonds," explaining that he thrives on "getting shit from their mouths into my mouth" as part of his role as a lawyer—before quickly clarifying that he means to use the information against them. He concludes his audition by telling the viewers to keep their eyes out before signing off.

Benji is currently the only male contestant to be the first boot of the merge, as every first merge boot before Carnival of Chaos was female. Benji is the first contestant to be part of the jury. Benji is the lowest ranked contestant from Carnival of Chaos to return for Fans vs Favorites. Being ethnically Japanese, Benji is one of nine characters with a known Asian ethnic background, along with Alec, Ara, Hannah, Jake, Riya, Sam, Shawn, and Yul. Being Japanese-Canadian, Benji is one of sixteen characters to have two nationalities, along with Alec, Amelie, Anastasia, Ara, Bruno, Drew, Dunia, Fiore, Isabel, Manu, Nura, Oliwia, Ren, Sam, and Yul. Benji is one of seven characters to wear eyeglasses, along with Alec, Ally, Dan, Oliver, Oliwia, and Spencer. Benji is one of nine Carnival of Chaos characters to undergo a significant redesign of their swimsuit after the official concept, along with Alessio, Amelie, Hannah, Isabel, Lynda, Natalia, Richard, and Zaid. In his case, the Japanese Dragon Ball logo on his swimsuit was removed. Benji is currently one of two characters to undergo a design change partway through a season that was purely cosmetic and unrelated to plot reasons, the other being Zaid. From “Tough Act to Follow” onward, the pocket on his left side of his sweater disappears. Benji is the only Carnival of Chaos character to go by a nickname. Benji is one of twelve contestants to go by a nickname, along with Ally, Dan, Fiore, Gabby, Grett, Lill, Maggy, Nick, Rosa María, Tom, and Will. During voting, Benji's votes are written using the "Kindergarten" (Geronimo Font Studios) typeface. During casting for Carnival of Chaos, Benji's placeholder name was "Riku".[5] According to both his Exit Interview and a personalized greeting[6], Benji is questioning his sexuality. According to Jared Madrigal, Benji has Japanese roots. According to a personalized greeting, the All-Stars contestants that Benji relates to the most are Ally, Fiore, and Tess.[7] According to a personalized greeting, Benji's favorite childhood show would probably be Doraemon, with Sailor Moon and Naruto as honorable mentions. [8] According to the same greeting, what made him want to cosplay was the concept of getting to be someone else and just having fun with it. [8] Benji's favorite music genres is J-pop, as revealed in “Tough Act to Follow”. Benji is currently the (unofficial) record holder for fastest Patreon shoutouts. Before him, Diego previously held the record. According to a personalized greeting, it was brought up a bit that Benji could be neurodivergent when he was younger, but his parents didn’t want to do any testing. However, Benji does want to revisit the topic someday, meaning that it’s implied he’s neurodivergent, but not diagnosed yet.[9]
