Optimus Prime

The leader of the Autobots in their war against the Decepticons, Optimus Prime is a noble robot that believes freedom is the right of all sentient beings. He has fallen many times over the course of his different incarnations, but always returns in the Autobots' darkest hour. He truly believes that true peace may never occur until "All Are One". He has had several alternate modes throughout his many different incarnations, but is most renowned for his earliest transformation into a semi-truck.

Optimus Prime has appeared in several Transformers continuities. In each and every one, he is the heroic and fearless leader of the Autobots and views all life in the universe as sacred, whether they're Human or Transformer. Another common theme throughout the continuities is that Optimus had humble beginnings before the war with the Decepticons had started and had leadership thrust upon him.

He has a red and blue color scheme.

He transforms into a semi-truck.

Optimus' vehicle mode is usually a semi-truck, but he has also taken the form of a firetruck. He has been known to combine with his trailer or other Autobots to become a super-powerful Transformer. In the movie, he briefly took the parts of Jetfire to become more powerful. His powers vary, but generally are:

Flight at vast supersonic speeds Invulnerability to the point of spending days in hyperspace. Also able to enter the Earth's atmosphere with ease. He has also taken blows from Megatron, and Megatron has enough strength to lift 2000 tons, and Optimus has also taken shots from Megatron's Fusion Cannon, which can bring down buildings and destroy small towns. Takes the form of a semi-truck Has a power pack in the form of a trailer to his truck Can incorporate nearby machines into his body Can fire bullets from his hand like machine guns Can fire small rockets Uses a laser rifle. Can summon either an energy axe or an energy-enhanced sword from his right arm. In some versions, he has a sword from each arm. Superhuman strength to the point of punching Megatron to submission despite Megatron being made up of advanced parts including a Cybertronian tank, and he also possesses enough strength to lift 2000 tons.

Iacon is an autobot controlled city on Cybertron

The Autobots usually find themselves defending both their own race and other species against the Decepticons and upholding justice and freedom throughout the galaxy. A generally heroic, honorable group, they tend to be dedicated to peace, and feel a need to protect other races from the Decepticons. As a result, they are usually Transformers who change into non-combat oriented alternate modes such as domestic vehicles, cars, trucks, or rescue vehicles. This is not always the case, however, as their ranks certainly contain ne'er-do-wells, malcontents, and unsavory types, and the necessities of war have led many to adopt more combat-oriented alternate forms. While the Autobots have usually found themselves outnumbered by the Decepticons, the Autobots have always had home-field advantage, having not only the humans' military support, but also having more places on Earth to fall back on, while the Decepticons are entirely unwelcome on Earth. Key concepts that repeat throughout most continuities are the use of the name Prime (or a variation thereof) to denote Autobot leadership, and the existence of an artifact of great life-giving power, usually referred to as a "Matrix", traditionally held by their leader.

The Decepticons are a faction typically concerned with such things as conquering Cybertron, defeating the Autobots, amassing large quantities of energon, developing powerful weaponry, and beating people up. Not necessarily in that order. Unlike the Autobots, whose leader is a Prime bearing a Matrix, the Decepticons are led by the most powerful of their ranks. This tends to cause some conflict, given how generally every Decepticon thinks that they're the most powerful. Also, the Decepticons are not exactly the most compassionate beings in the universe, but not all fight for greed. More than a few have a sense of honor, while others believe that Cybertron would be better protected by aggressive expansion. Ultimately, the Decepticons desire to protect their homeworld, even if it is at the expense of others.
