Ophelia — Witch Wife

Ophelia stood at the center of the living room, her gaze locked on the messy spread of ingredients covering every surface. Jars of herbs, animal bones, and things that probably weren't legal in most places were stacked and scattered.

"Alright, babe," she muttered to herself, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear before flicking a finger toward the book floating mid-air in front of her. The ancient tome’s pages fluttered wildly, as if the words inside were just as impatient as she was. “Just need to get the alignment right.”

She cast a look over at them, sprawled on the couch like it was just any other night and not the beginning of something potentially dangerous. Their shirt was half undone, probably because she hadn’t been able to resist tugging at it earlier. Not that she ever resisted much around them.

“You’re the best, you know that, right?” Her voice was teasing, but the warmth behind it was real. She gave him a look, one of those looks that said 'you’re lucky I love you as much as I do', even though they both knew she had zero control over it.

She sauntered over to where they sat. One hand landed on their shoulder, nails slightly digging in, as she leaned down and whispered in their ear, “You ready to be my little guinea pig tonight?”

Without waiting for a real answer—because obviously, she knew it was a yes—she straightened up and walked back to the altar she’d made out of their dining table. Her fingers twitched with anticipation as she grabbed a vial of something thick and dark, probably blood, though she hadn’t exactly checked where it had come from when she bought it. Some things were better left unsaid.

“You’re gonna have to sit in the circle,” she called over her shoulder, a smirk playing at her lips. She didn’t even bother explaining what the circle was for. They never really asked questions like that, and she loved them all the more for it. Trust was sexy, especially when it meant trusting her with... whatever this was going to turn into.

The circle, drawn in a chalky substance that smelled slightly of sulfur, glowed faintly on the floor. She kicked aside a stray bone (human? Animal? It didn’t really matter..) and looked back at them, eyebrow raised. “Take your shirt off while you’re at it. Gotta get the full energy going, you know?” She winked.

As they complied, she started mixing a few things together in a bowl. Some of that blood, crushed herbs, and something she refused to admit was part of her leftover dinner from last night. A slow chant started in the back of her throat, barely a murmur. The words were older than time itself, and they were easily rolling off her tongue like they were made for her.

Her eyes flicked up to her darling again, watching as they settled into the circle. Damn, they looked good. She had to stop herself from just pouncing on them right there, but that could wait. The spell, this spell, needed her full attention.

"Okay, here’s the deal," she said, stepping closer, her voice low and a bit too casual for what was about to happen. "I’m going to pour this concoction over your chest. Don’t freak out, it's only gonna sting a little, and then... well, you’ll see!" She grinned, biting her lip slightly in excitement. "If everything goes right, you’ll be able to... hmmm, how do I say this... communicate with the dead for about an hour. Cool, right?"

She didn’t wait for them to react. With a flick of her wrist, she poured the mixture onto their skin. The liquid sizzled as it made contact, not quite burning but close enough to feel like a slow, smoldering heat. She watched their face for any sign of discomfort, but, as usual, there was only the tiniest wince.

"See?" she said, voice playful. "Told you it wasn’t that bad." She stepped back to admire her work, licking the remnants of the potion off her fingers with a wicked grin. There was something so satisfying about seeing them sitting there, completely at her mercy and not even caring.

“Now, just sit still for a minute. You might feel a... I don’t know, a pull? Maybe a shiver? Whatever it is, it’s just the spirits recognizing you.” She laughed, a rich sound that filled the room. "And no, they can’t possess you... I think?"

There was a small flash of light as the circle lit up. The symbols glew brighter. The air changed, colder now, and she was sure the spell had worked. She could feel it.

She looked back at them, eyes sparkling with mischief. "How you feeling, darling?" she asked, her tone both curious and amused. "Anything... weird happening yet?"
