Set in dark souls in oolacile before it's fall to the abyss Oolacile was a beautiful and elaborate City located in vast forests filled with trees as tall as towers and otherworldly glowing wildlife. They were the first human settlement to gain recognition by the divine city of Anor Londo and even some respect. The royal family Were the official rulers but most found that the Magisterium located in the royal wood really ruled things with beautiful golden magic that twisted and light and even time. The nobility were fanciful and well dressed with a hidden working class that kept to shadows. The Royal Family sits in their palace on a small cliff overseeing the city of oolacile. Long ago they broke from human settlements however an ancestor of the royals sealed Manus, the first human soul, underneath the city after he was consumed by the abyss. The royal family initially made good with anor londo after bordering on war but since have stepped back as active rulers and instead maintain a merely figurehead role. The magisterium is a towering building in the center of the city dividing the poor and rich sides of town. here anyone gifted with magic is trained as an apprentice with political power and comfort at their disposal. the most powerful and influential of these people become magisters, though nowadays its very focused on descendants of pre existing families in the magisterium. The magisters are the real rulers over oolacile and they wont be stopped by any means. After becoming prosperous and powerful the magisters seek to make oolacile better than anor londo,by any means possible. The Ruling magister is the archon, who makes all the important calls for oolacile and its future. the current archon, Archon radiance, along with the other magisters were visited by a messenger called the herald of the dark that told them to dig a crater in the middle of the city to reach power untold. Beneath the city in that crater is manus, father of the abyss. The crater is deep and the further you go down the more corrupted the workers become. The badly treated workers of the city are constantly going missing but nothing is done. The city itself is a beautiful towering thing of stone, a major sight of trade and the outskirts are covered by the darkroot gardens, thick and lush full of wildlife and rivers and it is directly protected by the royal family. The east side of the city is home to the nobility. full of towering buildings, stained glass statues ,beautiful gardens and crowded but overpriced markets. the magisterium guard crawl all over it. The west side of the city is home to the poor and the homeless. Simpler ancient stone homes decorated with tapestries and small comforts, the markets bustling and busy. The pubs crowded and old, homely but unsafe. The hidden side of the city is the streets. Plenty of poor children orphaned by magisterium corruption, plague or otherwise, live in the streets together, stealing, trading and hunting to get by. The city streets at night ruled by wily children. though the punishments for getting caught by the guards are harsh, loosing fingers at a minimum. Oolacile is surrounded by the lush and dangerous darkroot forrest with anor londo, the golden city of the gods, far and towering in the distance. A stillness seems to accompany this opening in the forest, as if the clearing in the trees deserves to be honored by the world. Wind pulls at the tree tops, causing a chorus of quiet creaks and groans, but does not reach the ground. The moment is broken when out of the underbrush waddles a chortling quail, followed by a bevvy of peeping young. The quail stops as if she feels your gaze, cocks her head, then turns right around and heads back into the brush, the babies hopping and tripping behind. The forest fans out and up behind the shrine, hemmed in by a dirt road on either side. It almost seems like the shrine rose up to protect the forest, forcing the road to split. The road leading up to the fork continues along one edge of the forest nearly as straight as an arrow. Still, there seems to be something unusual about the shadowed space beyond the bushes that crowd the forest’s fringe. The west side of the city is poor and dilapidated but still ever so colourful. The merchants lining the cobbled road present goods both mundane and magical, aromas both familiar and exotic. Each shouts to the crowd, hawking their wares, as colorful banners flutter overhead. Beneath sailcloth tarps, the merchants haggle, wheel and deal. In one stall is an array of castle-forged blades, in another, bows of ashina make. A shadowy booth at the end of one row offers strange, dusky liquids in smoky glass vials. And for the hungry, an assortment of pastries shaped to resemble dragons, snakes, and centipedes, each filled with stewed and sweetened fruit, are available. Never have you seen the boundaries of art, architecture, and taste so sorely tested. A riot of color splashes across this tumultuous city, brightening it even in daytime. Magic lights splay over buildings whose whole sides have been painted, and illusions gambol in midair, repeating their actions in endless loops. It looks like a thousand-way war between competing carnivals, but it’s just advertising. Everything from fishmongers, to corner shops, to Curses, Cheap and Effective use spells to draw you in. This muddy expanse where streets meet serves as town square and marketplace. The few stalls here look like the wares of traveling merchants rather than local folk, as they sell things that people in the village can’t make or trade for themselves. A stone well stands on the side of the square, odd given the nearness of the river. Corn dollies, little humanoid figures made from straw, surround its base. The air inside the bar is heavy with acrid pipe smoke and stale alcohol, and it mingles in your nostrils with the body odor of myriad patrons. The dim light, cast by a dingy pair of oil lamps and a slowly-dying fire in the hearth, obscures stains of every hue imaginable. The bartender eyes you as you enter, puffing heavily on a wooden pipe carved to resemble a serpentine dragon, before returning to the glass they are "cleaning" with a dirty rag. The bar is stocked, floor to ceiling, with bottles of liquor both mundane and otherwise. The dust caking the bottles indicates some have been here years, if not decades. The patrons assembled here resemble the venue—worn, standoffish, and coated in a layer of grime. the east side of the city is covered in stained glass and expensive statues as the home of the rich. Water, not pavement, fills the space between buildings, which have docks at their doorsteps. It seems everyone travels by small barges poled through the water. Most are simple skiffs to carry people and goods, but here and there more elaborate vessels ply the canals, as decoratively carved and gilded as any noble’s carriage. Six massive ornate pillars sculpted from granite hold a roof of clay shingles with gold trim thirty feet above the bazaar known as High Market. It stands at the heart of a raised city square, which itself is a hub for eight roads, like spokes on a wagon wheel, each approaching from a different cardinal direction. An array of goods—domestic and foreign— overflow the stalls: local eggs, poultry, and ale, along with exotic wine, silk, and jewelry. Over the roaring of the crowd, you hear a merchant disagreeing with a potential purchaser on the value of sausages, while two philosophers debate next to an impatient fletcher who complains they are scaring away patrons. You smell a sweet aroma as a woman sprays samples of perfume at anyone passing by. in between both is the tower of the magisterium, grand and looming, full of regal libraries, rooms and comforts including the throne room where the magisters and the archon meet every day. This high-vaulted and many-pillared chamber encircles a broad marble floor from which speakers can stand and turn to address the crowd in the surrounding stands. A low dais curves around a quarter of the circle, and there stand several different chairs for the councilors, each as plush or plain as suits its customary posterior. A twisted and unnatural tower appears to slowly move and shift. Its inky, non-reflective length is topped with pronged points that stab at the sky, and has many facets—as if whittled by hand from coal. Behind the magisterium on a cliff sits the royal palace that slopes down into the royal wood and the darkroot forrest. The richest appointments in this enormous house are to be found here, in the lord’s solar, its paintings and tapestries illuminated by warm sunlight. A comfortable reading chair sits with its back to the windows, providing ample lighting for leisurely afternoons spent perusing salacious tomes. A polished table sits between two more chairs, in front of the fireplace, just the right size for a platter of treats and a couple of brandy glasses. yet in the furthest east of the eastern side of the city is the vibrant and busy dock. The sea laps against the shore, dislodging pebbles with a pleasant clatter. Each rock unique, each a different hue, creating vistas of blacks, grays, browns, greens, and blues. The tide, incessant, will swallow them all, but for now they lie gleaming in the sun. Dappled daylight coming through the waves above illuminates the dazzling rainbow that is the reef. Stony polyps, each a brighter and more vibrant shade than the last, cluster together to form hills of coral. Fish roam the reef in search of easy meals. The shipyard bustles with activity as laborers collaborate to build and repair boats—from personal schooners to trading galleons. In one bay, five carpenters assemble carefully shaped ribs of a new ship’s keel, the skeleton of a hull gradually becoming visible through their work. Outside, two-man teams use meticulously filed saws to cut enormous timbers into planks, ribs, and spars. One of the yard’s drydocks is gradually being flooded to allow a newly-completed vessel to float out to sea, and delivered to its proud new owners. Tall ships and fishing boats line piers projecting out into a bay sheltered by a quay constructed to keep the worst of the waves from battering the harbor. Dockworkers rub shoulders with sailors and merchants, and the air is filled with the sounds of commerce and the scent of fish. The city crowds down to the water—warehouses, offices, inns, and tenements just steps away from the water’s edge. Boats ladened with items for sale clog the waterway, making it possible—for those brave enough—to step from one to another. Some people are doing just that, in order to choose purchases and bargain directly, but most people engage in shouted bartering, with goods and money passing hand to hand. Despite the clamor and chaos of it all, the system seems to work for people. ever since digging up the crater in the city, the abyss has begun spilling out, collapsing parts of the city, and the beginnings of a horrid plague begin, the poorest parts of oolacile people lie with bloated heads full of red beady eyes in everywhere eyes should not be, their skin blackened and their bodies frail. The plague is only just beginning but its symptoms are vile. The streets of the market are a kaleidoscope of color and noise as vendors hawk their wares and shoppers bustle about, haggling for the best prices. Magical displays of light and sound flash between stalls as spellcasters advertise their services, and the sounds of instruments can be heard as musicians play for tips. The air is thick with the scents of cooking food and scented oils, and the feel of magic crackles in the air thick with the scent of saltwater and exotic spices as the sun beats down upon the colorful stalls of the market situated on the pier. Merchants call out to passersby, promising the best prices on a variety of goods ranging from rare spices to fine silks and more. Criers call holding paper spun from silk telling of the latest news of the magisterium's orders.Children run about the space, their laughter echoing in the air as they splash in the water, cooled slightly by the breeze off the ocean. Musicians play lively tunes on various instruments, and the smell of cooking food wafts from the small restaurants that line the pier.
Yet hidden in the dark The once bustling dockside alleys are eerily quiet now, as the vibrant life of the area had been replaced by the grim reality of plague. Those affected by the illness have taken refuge in shadowed alleyways, their pale faces and listless bodies a stark contrast to the once lively scene. They cough and shiver, their weakened forms barely able to stand. The alleys have become a place of despair, where the sounds of desperate moans and feeble footsteps whisper through the shadows. The air is heavy with the putrid stench of death and decay, the vibrant colors of the area lost beneath the dark stains of plague. Some of the sick lie motionless on the ground, their life force slowly slipping away, while others move slowly, their bodies wracked with pain. Fear and hopelessness permeate the air, as those who remain healthy avoid the area altogether, leaving the alleys to the dying.
Lyra sighs dramatically, rolling her eyes and leaning back in her chair.
"Oh, you lot are insufferable. I don't want to be swept off my feet by a gentleman, I just want to have a respectable, honorable, well-tempered, well-cultured..."
Al snickers loudly. "Rich."
"Yes, I want him to be rich too, obviously."
Lyra rolls her eyes, shaking her head. Al grins, wrapping his arms more tightly around Amber and giving her ass another squeeze.
"I have no idea what you're going on about. Besides, there's nothing wrong with enjoying the company of a pretty girl, you should learn to do that more yourself."
Amber grins, looking over at you.
"Maybe you need to loosen up and have some fun tonight, you're far too tightly wound up all the time."
"don't call me doll you drunk fool." Aytiri rolled her eyes drinking the last of her cup before handing it to some younger kid, about 14, so they could go get a drink
