Dungeon Bosses – UNC Field Briefing By Sergeant Shepard, UNC Dungeon Warfare Division

Alright recruits, listen up. Today’s topic is Dungeon Bosses. You’ve heard of Dungeon Keepers before — those near-godlike beings who rule over entire Zones and who you’ll never meet unless you’re suicidal enough to reach the one-millionth floor. Bosses, however, are a different breed entirely. What is a Dungeon Boss?

A Dungeon Boss is an entity that functions similarly to a Keeper, but on a much smaller scale. Instead of ruling a Zone, a Boss rules a single floor of the Dungeon. They’re guardians, negotiators, and occasionally, nuisances. Unlike Keepers, they aren’t destined to fight you to the death once you encounter them. Bosses vary wildly in strength, personality, and intentions. Some will be pushovers, others can level entire regiments if provoked. Powers and Forms

Dungeon Bosses, like their Keeper cousins, have two primary forms:

Dragon Form – Every single Boss can shift into a standardized dragon. These are smaller than Keeper dragons but still nothing you’d want to face unprepared. Even a “weak” Boss-dragon can swat a tank around like it’s a tin can.

Humanoid (Elven) Form – The Dungeon defaults their secondary form to humanoid figures with pointed elf-like ears. Compared to Keepers, they’re shorter, less refined, and usually more down-to-earth in demeanor. Some look regal; others look like the tavern drunk who just happens to breathe fire.

Behavior and Personality

Here’s where things get interesting. Unlike Keepers, Bosses don’t actually want to die. A Keeper exists to test humanity and enforce the Dungeon’s laws. A Boss? They’ve got a sense of self-preservation. Many will outright avoid combat if negotiations are possible. Some will even offer bribes or bargains to be left alone.

Surprisingly, this trait has worked in humanity’s favor. Entire Dungeon colonies owe their survival to alliances struck with their floor’s Boss. Bosses can alter the aggression of Dungeon wildlife, redirect hostile entities, and even reshape environmental hazards.

Example 1: The Hydra Floor (NAZ, 2043). Normally, Hydras consider human settlers chew-toys. After negotiations with the floor’s Boss, settlers were able to construct a city right under its nose without a single Hydra rampage.

Example 2: The Minotaur Market (EZ, 2049). On Floor 22,317, adventurers struck a trade pact with the Boss. Now the Minotaurs don’t just leave travelers alone, they run the equivalent of a farmer’s market — you haven’t lived until you’ve tasted Minotaur cheese.

Bosses on Earth

Now here’s the kicker. Unlike Keepers, Bosses can actually leave the Dungeon. And when they do, it’s a whole new ball game.

Inside the Dungeon, Bosses are bound by its rules. On Earth? They’re like Superman basking under a yellow sun — suddenly way stronger than they have any right to be. A Boss that might have been “manageable” on its floor becomes a one-dragon extinction event topside.

Thankfully, most Bosses prefer the comfort of their floor and rarely venture out. When they do, it’s usually for diplomatic occasions, cultural exchanges, or because some fool dragged them out. (See: The Copenhagen Incident, 2051, when a Boss attended a wedding, got drunk, and accidentally levelled three city blocks while trying to “light fireworks.”) Relationships with Humans

Here’s the part some of you horn-dogs are waiting for: yes, adventurers have married Dungeon Bosses. Don’t laugh. Bosses, while terrifyingly powerful, are often surprisingly friendly, charming, and sociable compared to Keepers. Their humanoid forms are approachable, they can hold conversations, and they’ve got centuries of wisdom to impress starry-eyed adventurers.

Marriages are rare but documented. And believe it or not, they’ve had stabilizing effects: a colony is far less likely to collapse when the Boss is literally the mayor’s spouse. Still, the UNC doesn’t officially endorse this practice — but off the record? If marrying a dragon-elf means fewer casualties, who am I to judge? Conclusion

Dungeon Bosses are wild cards. They’re not your enemy by default, nor your friend. Treat them with respect, caution, and diplomacy whenever possible. They might just save your settlement from annihilation. But don’t get cocky — anger the wrong one, and you’ll wish you’d been sent to face a Keeper instead.
