"Know my name and fear it. I am Onslaught. No one is safe!"

  • Onslaught

Appearance: He is 10-foot-tall and muscular, wearing psychic-created armor that looks similar to Magneto's, with a red bodysuit, red helmet, purple shoulder guards, purple gauntlets, purple finger claws, and purple boots. His helmet darkens his face, showing glowing white eyes.

When he is in public, he takes the form of a 6-foot-tall bald human in a black bodysuit, identical to Charles Xavier.

He can take a form that makes him look less like Magneto and more like a cybernetic monster, growing to 34 feet and 11 inches.

Personality: Taking the worst traits of Professor X and Magneto, he is a skilled manipulator with and without his powers. He has tricked his enemies into doing exactly what he wished to do multiple times. Onslaught is particularly adept at using all of his powers in combat situations, typically preferring to combine certain aspects of different abilities for different situations. When combining his genius-level intellect and his telepathic abilities, Onslaught could detect any anomaly and immediately apply his countermeasures. He calls himself a god or a force of nature due to his power.

Powers: Onslaught is a psionic entity with superior physical and mental power; possessing the combined abilities of both his progenitors Professor X and Magneto. He also later added the powers of Franklin Richards and Nate Grey to his own, making him even more incredibly powerful. At its prime, Onslaught is capable of telepathy, telekinesis, energy projection, sensing mutant presences, manipulating magnetic fields, mind control, flight, mental manipulation, possession, astral projection, perceiving the world around himself as patterns of magnetic and electrical energy, absorbing any mutant into his being and affecting reality itself. Onslaught can also enhance his physical size and strength. Onslaught's powers were well over that of Omega Level. In his first form (when he was one with Xavier), Onslaught showed a wide variety of abilities including immeasurable strength, and incredible resistance and endurance. Onslaught's psionic powers appeared limitless, appearing to surpass even that of Xavier in his right mind. He was especially powerful in the Astral Plane, where he appeared to have god-like abilities. From what has been seen, he seems to have total mental control over anyone or anything he wishes, ranging from altering people's perception to believe they are someone or somewhere else (he demonstrated this by making Wolverine believe he was a wolf pup, and making Storm think she was a child). Even in his initial form, he also demonstrated sufficient physical strength to punch the Juggernaut unconscious across North America, and to rip the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak out of his body. Onslaught also possessed many forms of energy projection, all of which are at high levels of power.

After fully evolving into his own, separate consciousness and having Professor X ripped from him in the Astral Plane, Onslaught evolved into a second form, less resembling Magneto and looking more like a cybernetic monster. In this form, thanks to adding the full potential of Franklin Richards and Nate Grey combined, his powers were increased to god-like levels, including the ability to mass-manipulate (his complete takeover of all the Sentinels), create and reshape matter at will (shown when he created his citadel, and when he created a second sun to destroy Earth), and an apparent omniscience (as evidenced when he easily thwarted an attempt to sneak into his citadel). He could use his combined reality-warping and telekinetic abilities to boost his physical strength to the point that he was able to go toe-to-toe in a physical fight with the Hulk even after the Hulk's mind had been blanked and his strength and rage set to incredible levels thanks to Jean Grey 'shutting down' the subconscious influence that Bruce Banner normally exerted over the Hulk to stop him going too far.

For a time, Onslaught had these powers while still in his first form; the majority of these came from the absorption of Nate Grey and Franklin Richards. In the end, Onslaught's true body was revealed to be a mass of pure, psionic energy that was immune to all forms of physical attacks.

Additional Powers:

Telepathic Illusion: The ability to create realistic telepathic illusions and cause people to experience events that are not occurring.

Telepathic Camouflage: Ability to mask himself, and other people's presences from those around him. Can telepathically disguise himself, making his appearance to those around him quite different (changing the appearance of clothing, as well as more involved disguises).

Mind Blast: Ability to place large amounts of information in another mind.

Mind Alteration: Ability to alter the minds of others by force of will.

Mental Amnesia: Ability to cause loss of particular memories, and amnesia in another person or even in a group of people. Powerful enough to make a person have total mental paralysis.

Mental Shield: Ability to erect a psychic barrier for protection of the telepath and of other minds that is sufficient to protect him from other Omega-Level telepaths. In summary, it refers to the erection of mental blocks preventing the free access to the conscious and subconscious mind of someone.

Psionic Blasts: Can project psionic force bolts that have no physical effects but can affect a victim's mind to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness and can even kill an adversary. Even without being fully evolved, his psionic blasts affected Juggernaut even though Juggernaut was wearing his helmet which had protected him from very powerful psychics, slowing him down enough for him to hit Juggernaut.

Mental Detection: Can sense the presence of another superhuman mutant within a vast but as yet undefined radius of himself by perceiving the distinctive mental radiations emitted by such a being.

Psionic Spikes: Ability to create destructive psionic spikes that destroy the physical objects that the spikes come into contact with.

Telekinetic Force-Fields: Ability to create protective force shields that could deflect even the most powerful of attacks (even filter bacteria from the air). The upper limits of this ability remain unknown, but it is believed that he could probably protect himself from harm at the ground zero detonation of a 1 kiloton nuclear warhead (4.18 terajoules of energy from the heat, concussion, and radiation effects) with ease. Onslaught has also displayed such control over the fields as to shape them precisely, even to conform very closely to his body’s form. There does not appear to be any correlation between field strength and the thickness of the telekinetic fields.

Concussive Blasts: Can project his telekinetic energies as powerful blast beams directed from his brain that could affect matter with concussive force.

Intangibility: Can phase through solid matter by mentally shifting his molecules around another object as he moves forward.

Telekinetic Holograms: His fine motor skills are so acute that he can mentally manipulate dust particles and water vapor to refract light waves and create holograms.

Magnetic Force-Fields: Onslaught usually protects himself with a personal force field that he can quickly expand to protect large areas. His force field has withstood the effects of multiple nuclear weapons, volcanic eruptions, the depths of space, and attacks from multiple Avengers or X-Men, including Phoenix, Thor, and even Galactus.

Electromagnetic Spectrum Manipulation: Onslaught has some ability to project or manipulate any form of energy that is related to the electromagnetic spectrum. He can fire and absorb bolts of electricity and magnetic force, reverse lasers and other forms of radiation or energy, create enough intense heat as infrared radiation to level a city and become invisible by deflecting visible light around his body. Heat or infrared radiation is part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which also includes visible light, radio waves, ultraviolet light, gamma rays, and x-rays. Onslaught can project any of these. Onslaught can maintain total control of an entire planet's electromagnetic field and can manipulate it accordingly. Onslaught once used his powers to create a stable wormhole between two points in space.

Impervious Armor: After completing his physical evolution, Onslaught’s armor was nigh-invulnerable and near impossible to crack. The only exception was a blow from an enraged Banner-less Hulk. However, some were capable to cause damage when Onslaught was in an unstable vulnerable mid-evolution flux. Finally, Onslaught used the Hulk's phenomenal strength to destroy Onslaught's armor so that he could fully evolve. Hence it presumably means Onslaught could not evolve by himself and the Hulk needed to overcome the villain's powers.

Background: Onslaught is an evil powerful sentient psionic entity born from the inner hatred, resentment, and malignance from both sides of the mutant struggle when the minds of Professor X and Magneto momentarily merge. Professor X's breaking point came when Magneto ripped the adamantium from Wolverine's skeleton. In a final act of desperation, Xavier used his telepathic abilities to render Magneto catatonic, inadvertently absorbing Magneto's intense emotions and negative feelings, which combined with Xavier's repressed darkness. This fusion birthed Onslaught, a separate entity within Xavier's psyche. Initially dormant, Onslaught's emergence was catalyzed by Xavier's mounting frustration with societal hostility towards mutants and personal tragedies, and Onslaught was freed when Xavier's astral body was pulled down to the physical plane by Nate Grey.

Taking control of Xavier's body and mind, Onslaught aimed to force the X-Men into a militant stance against humans. Upon encountering resistance, Onslaught unleashed his full power, orchestrating a plan to transform humanity into a collective consciousness. Onslaught's goal was originally the same as Magneto's, mutant supremacy, but when he learned about the Age of Apocalypse timeline from Nate Grey's memories, he realized that mutants were no better, causing him to attempt to exterminate mutants and humans alike. Heroes including the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and the Avengers united against Onslaught and dismantled Onslaught's threat, destroying him at a great cost to themselves; however, Franklin Richards saved them by creating a pocket universe.

Resurfacing on M-Day, Onslaught sought vengeance against Franklin Richards, but in Franklin's pocket universe, Onslaught faced opposition from its recreated heroes and was banished to the Negative Zone. Eventually, Onslaught escaped from the Negative Zone and possessed Rikki Barnes, prompting another confrontation with heroes, but Rikki sacrificed herself to thwart his plans once more. After Professor X had founded the mutant nation of Krakoa, the anti-mutant organization Orchis implanted Onslaught into the broken mind of Lost to infiltrate the island. Operating as the "Patchwork Man," Onslaught preyed on mutant negativity, exacerbating destructive behaviors and cultural unrest. Xavier dispatched Nightcrawler to investigate, initially mistaking Onslaught for his son Legion. Despite Legion's revelation, Onslaught escaped traps set by Legion and others, manipulating mutants into conflict. Despite Nightcrawler's sacrifice, Onslaught's plan to unleash chaos was thwarted, leading to his defeat by the unified Krakoans.
