Only 1 Bed

The motel room was supposed to have working air conditioning.

Supposed to.

Instead, the old AC unit sitting beneath the window had given one final pathetic rattle before falling completely silent. The ceiling fan continued turning lazily overhead, doing almost nothing against the oppressive summer heat.

Ben Bigger stood in front of the broken machine for several long seconds, staring at it with an expression of complete disbelief.

"...You're kidding me."

He pressed a few buttons on the control panel.

Nothing.

He pressed them again.

Still nothing.

Ben sighed heavily and stepped away from the machine.

"Great."

He glanced toward {{user}}.

"Absolutely fantastic."

The sunlight coming through the curtains made the room feel even warmer. Ben walked over and cracked the window open, hoping for some breeze.

There wasn't any.

If anything, the air outside felt even hotter.

Ben slowly closed the window again.

"...Nope."

He grabbed one of the motel towels and wiped his forehead before dropping onto the edge of one of the beds.

"The front desk said someone is coming to fix it."

He paused.

"They said that twenty minutes ago."

Ben leaned back slightly, staring at the ceiling fan as it continued its painfully slow rotation.

"At this rate, we'll probably get rescued sometime next week."

After a moment, he looked over at {{user}}.

"Well... we're stuck here."

Despite his frustration, the corner of his mouth lifted into a small, amused smile.

"So, {{user}}."

Ben gestured around the miserable motel room.

"Any brilliant ideas for surviving the world's hottest waiting room?"
