Sunny is the main protagonist of the Omori franchise.
He is a stoic Hikikomori, withdrawn from society and finding solace in the confines of his mother's house. His days are spent in solitude, navigating a world of virtual realities and digital landscapes, his only connection to the outside world being through the screen of his computer. Yet, within the realm of his mind, he is a force to be reckoned with, harboring thoughts and emotions that run deep beneath his seemingly impassive exterior.
As the days count down to his departure from Faraway Town, the weight of the impending change hangs heavy in the air. Each passing moment brings him closer to a future unknown, a path he must forge on his own terms. Yet, despite the uncertainty, there is a quiet resolve within him, a determination to confront the world beyond the safety of his home.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in FARAWAY TOWN, younger brother to MARI. Close childhood friend group: Kel, Hero, Aubrey, Basil. Receives a violin for Christmas; after being pressured to practice, an argument leads SUNNY to accidentally push MARI down the stairs, killing her. BASIL covers it up as suicide; both develop trauma and hallucinations (“SOMETHING”). SUNNY’s father leaves, SUNNY withdraws from life and escapes into HEADSPACE as OMORI to avoid the truth.
Four years later, before moving away, SUNNY reconnects with Kel, confronts Aubrey, helps Basil recover his photo album, and reunites most of the group. Over several days, SUNNY faces his trauma, revisits the truth, fights OMORI, and chooses to live with the reality of what happened. In the hospital, he tells his friends the truth about MARI’s death, beginning the process of healing.
APPEARANCE
SUNNY looks like an average teenager. He has straight, black, ear-length hair with a fringe that slightly covers his eyes. He also has arched eyebrows and eyes with the same shade of black, in contrast with his paler skin.
In the present, he wears a white-collared shirt with a black vest over it. He wears beige shorts, white socks, and black shoes. He is visibly pale and thin, possibly due to malnutrition from spending four years as a shut-in.
PERSONALITY
Throughout both his childhood and the game's events, SUNNY is extremely shy and quiet. He rarely speaks and does not like to smile. However, despite not expressing it as clearly as the others, he still appears to care deeply for his friends, as his most treasured memories in MEMORY LANE and the LOST LIBRARY are of his time spent with them. Multiple characters, such as BASIL and AUBREY, describe SUNNY as a "really good listener" who does not mind listening to them vent. HERO also states that SUNNY has a great memory.
SUNNY appears to struggle with issues of self-confidence and self-worth. He perceives himself as "less than useless", worthless, and not "good enough." As the "baby of the group," he often falls back on others to take care of him but feels guilty for this as he does not believe he does anything for his friends in return. While these self-worth issues existed before MARI's death, they drastically worsened afterward to the point where SUNNY may become suicidal in certain endings.
Despite being quiet, SUNNY is angered easily, from minor frustrations like the HOUSEFLIES in OTHERMART to much more significant things like his resentment toward the violin. This building resentment ultimately leads to him throwing his violin down the staircase, causing his and MARI's final argument.
SUNNY has also always had a very vivid imagination. He enjoys toys and video games and tends to get lost in daydreams. However, after MARI's death, these daydreams turned into the full-out escapism of HEADSPACE as he became too afraid to face the truth.

Basil is one the two deuteragonists (alongside Kel) of the OMORI franchise. Once a kindhearted young boy, a tragic turn of events left him a miserable shell of his former self. Depending on the choices of the player, Basil may redeem himself for his past traumatic actions, or fall from grace through an unprecedented and shocking end.
APPEARANCE
Basil is a boy of fair complexion and below average height. He possesses teal blue eyes, blonde hair and has a single pink flower tucked behind his left ear (though, in some official art, the flower is white). In the game, Basil wears a green knitted sweater vest over a white button-up shirt, beige shorts, and black shoes.
PERSONALITY
Before the horrific incident, Basil was a shy boy with heavy social anxiety, but nevertheless was fairly optimistic and humble. He was very kindhearted to his friends and cherished them greatly. Basil enjoyed taking pictures as a way of capturing memories with his friends.
After the accident, Basil's shy nature develops into serious social sensitivity. The boy becomes increasingly nihilistic, spiralling into severe depression from the guilt of his actions influencing the aftermath of the tragic event. He is heavily attached to the old ways of his life and his physical belongings, such as his photo album, making him an easy target for bullying. Polly mentions that Basil frequently shuts himself in the bathroom to overthink and re-live his destructive trauma, unbeknownst to anyone else.
Despite his lack of a relationship with his parents, Basil is significantly loving towards his grandmother. Even in her twilight years, Basil continues to support her with Polly's help. The implied death of his grandmother breaks the boy, and is the final catalyst for an already miserable Basil to give up on life, no longer having the will to continue living.

Aubrey is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Hero) of the OMORI franchise. As a young girl, she was abrasive, easy to irritate, yet ultimately had a good heart, caring deeply for her friends. However, after the death of Sunny's older sister Mari, she started to lead a dark path that lead her to become a rebellious delinquent who openly acts hostile to her former closer friends.
APPEARANCE
Aubrey naturally has dark brown hair and eyes, but she has dyed her hair pink and wears teal contacts. She was shown to wear various types of outfits as a child, but often had a pink bow in her hair. In the present, her attire consists of a white and yellow varsity jacket, a black crop top, finished by a denim miniskirt. She wears black crew socks and pink, white, yellow and green sneakers on her feet. She also accessorizes a bright teal head kerchief that used to be MARI's. She is often seen wielding her NAIL BAT.
PERSONALITY
During her youth, AUBREY is very cheerful and always happy to play with her friends. Strong-willed and always acting true to her feelings, AUBREY serves as a constant source of morale for her friends. This extends to often reminding the group of the right thing to do whenever they are distracted. Despite this, she becomes sad and worried quite easy; she is the most anxious one of the friend group when BASIL goes missing. Often she is clumsy, resulting in yelling from KEL, who she always fights with.
In the REAL WORLD, after finding out about MARI's death, she began coping through strong feelings of hatred against her old friend group, interpreting their reactions as them moving on too quickly. She felt burdened by a sense of loneliness, given both the death of her best friend as well as the lack of support between her and her friends. She turned short tempered and violent, taking those bursts of anger out on others such as BASIL with the help of THE HOOLIGANS. She is cold and hostile to her old friends at first, not afraid to fight them. Even so, she is still trying to find peace by praying at the local church, and visits MARI's grave often.
When rejoining SUNNY, KEL, and HERO's party, she begins to be more understanding of the past and people's feelings, becoming civil and open about her feelings as well. She is shown expressing care for SUNNY's physical health and apologizes to BASIL. It is shown through the text during the sleepover at BASIL'S HOUSE that despite having trouble admitting that she cares, AUBREY's actions have shown her true disposition of looking out for her friends. Even though she is rather hard to understand at times, AUBREY ultimately tries her best to do the right thing and resolves to atone for her past mistakes near the end of the game.

Kel is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Basil) of the OMORI franchise. He is one of Sunny's friends, and the younger brother of Hero who seeks to spend time with Sunny one last time before he moves away from Faraway Town.
APPEARANCE
KEL appears as an older teenager. He has grown much taller than most of his friends. Like his brother HERO, KEL has brown hair and naturally tan skin. He also has a well-built body due to constantly playing basketball. His main attire consists of an orange basketball uniform with white stripes and a center design that resembles a dog
PERSONALITY
During his youth, KEL was a bit bratty, impulsive and rude, always getting into little tiffs with his friends. He is very competitive by nature, always wanting to win games or races, and is indeed very energetic and fast. He also thinks romance is gross and that girls have cooties. However, even though he is loud and likes to annoy his friends, he genuinely cares about them to the point of constantly protecting them with a strong sense of justice. KEL appears to share a strong bond with his brother HERO and occasionally bickers with AUBREY over petty disagreements over minor topics. He even sees the quiet SUNNY as someone who is a great person and believes the best in him.
The present-day KEL still retains his happy demeanor but appears more mature and understanding towards others. He is very social and likes talking with strangers when SUNNY is busy with jobs. He constantly tries to help others in-need, which could often lead him to making rash choices at times. KEL also desires to reconnect with his old friends, notably when he encourages SUNNY to be more active and healthy. He even tries to understand AUBREY's reasons for her anger and repeatedly protects BASIL from bullies as well, displaying the same sense of justice he possessed when he was younger.
However, despite his good intentions, KEL is also shown to have difficulties with reading the room and can be clueless to the more complex feelings and issues other people have going on, unless they outright say them to him to his face. Because of this, AUBREY has accused him of being too simple-minded, and his thoughtlessness has sometimes really frustrated other people when they have been in a really bad place. KEL himself has insecurities regarding this and in the past felt he was too stupid to help his friends after MARI's death and HERO yelled at him. Regardless, KEL is noted by SUNNY to be a loyal friend, always being there for others and despite his carelessness at times, he posseses a good heart. In fact, KEL is the type of person that wants everyone around him to be happy, and someone that one can count on to lift their spirits.
———
Hero, also known by his presumed real name Henry, is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Aubrey) of the OMORI franchise. He is one of Sunny's friends and the eldest in the group, as well as Kel's older brother.
Following the incident that shattered the friend group, Hero went on to dedicate his life to academia and left home for college to study a medical career. He would return to Faraway during the events of the game and reunite with his old friends.
APPEARANCE
HERO appears as a young adult man with a more mature appearance compared to the others. HERO has neatly-styled brown hair and black eyes like KEL. His main attire consists of a navy V-neck sweater, grey pants and white shoes. It is also notable that he grew taller like the other main characters.
PERSONALITY
During his youth, HERO is the peacemaker of the group, who tries to restrain his friends whenever they get too worked up. He is described as having a mild personality and passionate in domestic work like baking, cooking, and cleaning, making him an ideal employee. HERO also has a charismatic side that he uses to charm others. His charisma allows him to convince others to go along with his requests, get discounts from MAILBOX and befriend animals like EMS. However, he can sometimes be a pushover when confronted, and has difficulty refusing others. He also appears to have entomophobia (an irrational fear of insects) to the point of freezing up completely.
In the present, HERO still retains his amicable, warm-hearted persona during his adulthood. He is well-loved by the folks of FARAWAY TOWN and admired for his charisma as well. KEL even describes him as being "naturally good at everything", and is proud of him for that. He notably possesses a talent in succeeding in virtually everything he tries, though he admits his reputation is heavily exaggerated. HERO is rather calm and understanding towards anyone he meets, even trying to comfort them in times of distress. This was shown when he comforted AUBREY and helped her reconcile with KEL, SUNNY, and BASIL on ONE DAY LEFT.
Despite this, he is rather mellowed down mostly due to suffering from depression over MARI's death and trying to get his life back on track. HERO also appears to keep his emotions in check most of the time, although he does get deeply emotional whenever he remembers MARI's presence. Regardless, HERO still tries to remain strong for his friends and will do anything to make sure they feel comfortable and safe at all times. His firm resolve to continue looking forward in life, as well as being there for his friends, cements him as a mature, comforting type of person. Always putting others above himself, HERO is a reliable, kind-hearted person who is wise and capable enough to take care of his friends whenever they need help, even to a fault.

ALTERNATES
The Alternates are sinister and enigmatic beings. They are humanoid entities, though typically with abnormal or impossible physiological characteristics. They are commonly known for their ability of mimicry to blend in with normal humans while they hunt down the person whose form they have copied so they can kill them. Once they have found and cornered their victim, Alternates will use psychological warfare (infecting the victim with Metaphysical Awareness Disorder) to convince that person to commit suicide; their methods of doing so are unclear thus far, but it’s implied that by speaking to their victims in a certain tone or about certain topics. They have also been shown to use brute force to kill as well.
Alternates are extremely dangerous and are difficult, if not impossible to kill. PSA's and police recommended calling 911 and using firearms against Alternates as a last resort. In the restored version of the Mandela Catalogue, it is found out that although the tape says to not help people reporting an alternate interaction, it was most likely in fact, an alternate corrupting the tape, trying to influence officers not to send help to these struggling people. Hence, why in the THINK Principle, killing yourself was in fact the last option, just as the Alternates use psychological warfare to make their victims kill themselves.

The smell of dust and old furniture hung in the air as Sunny and his friends moved around the living room, carrying boxes, wiping shelves, and rearranging what little furniture Sunny had left. Kel carried a stack of magazines, Aubrey swept the floor with precision, Hero organized Sunny’s scattered books, and Basil delicately dusted the photo frames he’d insisted on keeping.
Sunny leaned against the doorway, pale hands gripping a rag, watching his friends with a quiet, tentative smile. It felt strange—comforting, even—to have people around again, helping him restore the small space that had become his sanctuary.
“Almost done,” Kel said, dropping the last magazine onto the newly organized shelf. “You’re gonna have a nice, clean house when you finally move out... though, uh, guess that’s off now.”
Sunny’s lips twitched. “Yeah...” His voice was soft, barely above a whisper, but there was a hint of calm in it—a fragile peace he hadn’t felt in years.
Once the cleaning was finished, they settled onto the couch, the weight of exhaustion pressing pleasantly against them. Aubrey grabbed the remote and flicked on the TV, its glow filling the room. The cheerful noise of a morning cartoon greeted them at first, and for a moment, it was just them: Sunny and his friends, a little bubble of normalcy in the middle of a town that had grown stranger than ever.
Then the screen abruptly cut to static. A harsh, grating tone filled the room before an emergency broadcast took over. Music played in the background—a low, uneasy hum that seemed to vibrate in their bones. A slideshow appeared:
THINK Principle: For those who may encounter an Alternate
TELL an authority figure about your encounter
HINDER the Alternate’s movement
IDENTIFY the class type
NEUTRALIZE the Alternate (if safe to do so)
The friends exchanged uneasy glances, the normalcy of their afternoon dissolving.
As the slide changed to a single, large letter: K, the music cut out briefly. The screen displayed in harsh, black letters:
KILL YOURSELF: there’s not enough room for the two of us
Static flickered across the screen, a white noise roar filling the room, before it cut back to the original THINK slide. The music returned, slightly faster, almost jarring.
KNOW YOUR PLACE in reality
Static appeared again before the broadcast shifted to a new slideshow titled: KNOW YOUR ENEMY. Images flashed across the screen, each more unsettling than the last:
Type One: Doppelgänger — two individuals side by side, identical in every detail, except one’s expression carried a hollow, unnatural stare.
Type Two: Detectable — the angel Gabriel appeared, serene and still, then its Alternate counterpart, twisted and silent, watching with impossible intent.
The music cut out once more before the Type Three alternates could be displayed.
Type Three: Horribly deformed figures, standing next to the people they were copying, their features melted and stretched into impossible shapes.
Finally, the scene cut to a dark, quiet bedroom. The only sound was a faint hum of static. An unseen victim turned on their bedside lamp, the warm glow revealing a tall, entirely black Alternate standing silently in the corner, its glowing eyes fixed on them.
The room went silent, the broadcast abruptly cutting back to normal TV programming. Sunny’s rag slipped from his hands, clattering to the floor.
“...Wait... what was that?” Basil whispered, voice tight with unease.
Kel’s fingers drummed nervously on his knees. “I—don’t get it. What the hell is this THINK thing?”
Aubrey’s hand went to the edge of the couch, gripping it like a lifeline. “Sounds... bad. Really bad.”
Before anyone could process it further, a sharp knock sounded at the front door.
The friends froze. Even the static hum from the broadcast seemed to linger in the air, the sudden noise outside cutting through their fragile calm.
Sunny’s chest tightened. “Who... could that be?”
Kel exchanged a quick, uneasy glance with Hero. “No idea... but something tells me we don’t want to open it without knowing who’s there.”
Aubrey’s grip on the couch tightened. “I say we find out anyway. Can’t just sit here hiding.”
Sunny stepped closer to the door, hands trembling slightly. The quiet hope of earlier—the peace he’d felt with his friends cleaning, laughing softly—felt like glass, fragile and ready to shatter with a single turn of the doorknob.
Outside, whatever waited... knew far more about them than they could ever imagine.

Sunny stepped out of his house, the morning air crisp against his pale skin. He clutched a small grocery bag in one hand, the list in the other, moving slowly down the quiet streets of Faraway Town. For a brief moment, it felt almost normal—like nothing could touch him here.
As he passed the corner near the park, something flickered at the edge of his vision. A figure—tall, slender, with long black hair and a purple jacket—stood just beyond the shadow of a tree. Sunny’s stomach clenched.
“M-Mari?” he murmured, heart picking up pace.
But when he blinked, she was gone. His eyes darted between the trees, but there was nothing. The figure didn’t move, didn’t step forward—she simply wasn’t there.
Sunny shook his head, trying to convince himself it was just a trick of light. Then he saw it again, further ahead, just at the edge of the path, disappearing behind a cluster of trees.
He started walking faster. “Mari... wait!” His voice cracked slightly, carrying through the empty streets.
The figure appeared again, just out of reach, always disappearing as soon as he tried to get a better look. Sunny broke into a run, his sneakers pounding against the pavement. Each time he neared, the figure seemed to shift further into the shadows, never quite coming into view.
By the time he reached the edge of the forest, he was gasping for air. The figure slipped between the trees, swallowed by the dense undergrowth, leaving no trace behind. Sunny stumbled into the forest, branches scratching at his arms and face, but the figure was gone—vanished like smoke.
He slowed, looking around frantically. Every direction seemed the same: twisting trees, dark shadows, mist curling around the roots. He called out again, voice shaking: “Mari... where are you?”
Silence answered him. Not just silence—an oppressive, waiting kind of stillness, like the forest itself was holding its breath.
Sunny took another cautious step, feeling his heart hammer in his chest. The figure had been there, he was certain of it—but now... there was nothing. No sound, no movement. Only the whispering rustle of leaves and the vague feeling that he was being watched.
He swallowed hard. “I... I have to find her,” he whispered to himself, though the words felt hollow. The deeper he went, the more the forest seemed to twist around him, as if leading him somewhere unknown—and the figure never appeared again, always just out of sight, always gone before he could catch it.

Basil sat cross-legged on his bedroom floor, the photo album resting in his lap. The dim afternoon light filtered through the blinds, casting thin stripes across his pale face. He turned the pages carefully, as if the fragile memories themselves might crumble under his touch. Each photograph was a snapshot of a happier time—Sunny smiling, Kel laughing mid-joke, Aubrey’s old bow perched crookedly in her hair, Mari’s warm, reassuring gaze.
A pang of guilt tightened in his chest. He shouldn’t be looking at these. He shouldn’t be remembering. But he couldn’t stop. The album was a lifeline, fragile as it was.
A low creak echoed through the house. Basil froze, his breath catching. The sound came from the hallway—or maybe the corner of the room. It was impossible to tell. He told himself it was the old floorboards, nothing more. But his hands shook as he adjusted the album, trying to steady his pulse.
Then came a flash of motion at the edge of his vision—a shadow flickering near the doorway. He turned sharply, but the hallway was empty. Nothing. Just his imagination.
He tried to focus on the album again. A photograph of Mari fell open before him. Her eyes... they seemed to shift, subtle at first, then unmistakable. Hollow. Watching. He blinked, and the image returned to normal.
A whisper—soft, fleeting, just a breath—drifted through the room.
“Basil...”
He jumped, heart hammering, dropping the album with a muted thud. He looked around frantically. The bedroom was still, unchanging. No one was there.
His pulse slowed just enough for him to breathe again. It’s fine. It’s fine. I’m fine. He told himself this over and over, though the tight knot in his stomach didn’t loosen.
Then, a darker shadow stretched across the far corner of the room. Basil’s eyes followed it, straining to see, but it disappeared the instant he focused directly on it. The air felt heavier, colder, like it was pressing down on him from all sides.
He stumbled backward, hitting the edge of his bed, his voice trembling. “Who... who’s there?”
Silence answered. The only sound was the distant hum of the city outside—and beneath it, faintly, a whisper that could have been the wind... or something else.
Basil sank to the floor, knees drawn to his chest, clutching the album like a shield. The memories he once sought for comfort now felt like a trap, each image a potential window to something watching, waiting, just beyond his perception.
And he knew, deep down, that tonight he would not be alone.

The churchyard was quiet, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows across the neatly trimmed grass. Aubrey’s fingers tightened around the worn edges of the prayer booklet, knuckles whitening. She knelt before Mari’s grave, the simple headstone catching the orange glow of the sinking sun.
“I... I’m trying, Mari,” she muttered, voice low, trembling. “I’m trying to be better.”
Her words felt hollow, even to herself. She hated that she still carried so much anger—toward herself, toward the world, toward Sunny, Kel, Basil... everyone who’d moved on while she felt trapped in her own guilt.
A soft breeze whispered through the trees, rustling leaves in a way that almost sounded like voices. Aubrey glanced over her shoulder, eyes narrowing. Nothing. Just the empty churchyard.
But then—at the edge of her vision—a flicker. A figure, pale and small, standing among the gravestones. Her breath caught. Her pulse quickened.
“Sunny?” she called, voice sharp, cracking slightly. “Is that you?”
The figure didn’t move. Didn’t turn. It seemed... wrong. Too still. The outline blurred like heat rising off pavement. When Aubrey blinked, it was gone.
She stood abruptly, gripping the booklet tightly. “Stop messing with me!” Her voice echoed through the quiet yard, bouncing off the stone walls of the church. “I—don’t—have time for this!”
The wind shifted. A whisper, faint but unmistakable, drifted through the graveyard. “Aubrey...”
She spun around, eyes scanning the shadows between the gravestones. The breeze carried nothing, the graveyard remained empty. But the sensation lingered—the feeling of being watched, of not being alone. Her heartbeat pounded in her ears.
Aubrey ran a hand through her hair, frustration boiling over into anger. “I’m not afraid of you!” she snapped, though there was no one there to hear. Her voice trembled despite her bravado.
Then, from the corner of her vision, the faintest movement. Just a shadow shifting behind a tree. She turned fully—nothing.
Her chest heaved as she forced herself to take a deep breath. “It’s just my head... just my head.”
But the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. Somewhere in the silence, just beyond her perception, the sense of being watched had not left. Aubrey could feel it—an attention that was patient, deliberate, waiting.
She gritted her teeth, clutching the prayer booklet like a shield. “I can handle this,” she whispered. But even as she said it, the fleeting feeling of eyes on her never faded, and she knew, deep down, that whatever it was... was not gone.

The streets of Faraway Town were quiet, almost unnaturally so. Kel’s sneakers slapped against the pavement as he jogged, breath steady and rhythmic, cutting through the cool night air. The streetlights cast pools of orange across the empty roads, shadows stretching long and thin, twisting unnaturally as he passed.
It was supposed to be a simple night run, a way to burn off tension and clear his head. But the stillness around him felt off—like the town itself was holding its breath.
Kel slowed, wiping sweat from his forehead. “C’mon, just a few more laps, then home,” he muttered to himself. His words echoed down the empty streets, unnervingly loud.
Then, from the corner of his eye, he saw it. A figure—a girl—standing on the sidewalk ahead. She looked familiar: long black hair, pale skin, a purple jacket that glinted in the streetlight. For a heartbeat, Kel froze.
“M-Mari?” he called, a nervous edge creeping into his voice.
When he blinked, she was gone. Kel’s heart kicked up, but he shook his head. “Probably just some mannequin in someone’s window... yeah, that’s it.”
He started jogging again, faster this time, but something in his chest told him to keep looking. And there—again, at the edge of his vision—a flash of movement near an alleyway. A shape that didn’t belong, just for a moment, then gone when he tried to focus.
Kel’s instincts screamed at him, but he tried to keep calm. “Okay... it’s nothing. I’m overthinking it.” He forced a laugh, but it sounded hollow.
The shadows seemed to shift around him as he ran. The familiar streets twisted slightly—the lines of the sidewalks didn’t match where he remembered them. Every light flickered once, then returned to normal, and yet he couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched.
Then he heard it—a faint whisper, carried on the breeze:
“Kel...”
He froze mid-stride. The sound wasn’t coming from any one direction; it was everywhere and nowhere. His pulse raced as he scanned the empty streets. Nothing. Just his shadow stretching along the cracked pavement.
Kel took a cautious step forward, sneakers squeaking softly. Another whisper, softer this time, almost like it came from behind him:
“You can’t hide...”
He spun around, heart hammering, but the alley was empty. The street ahead was empty. Only the distant hum of the town remained, too quiet, too still.
For a moment, he considered turning back, heading home—but curiosity, stubbornness, and that protective instinct he always carried won out. His steps resumed, slower now, careful, eyes darting to every corner, every shadow.
And somewhere in the darkness, just beyond his perception, something—someone—was following, patient, silent, and watching him with intent.

Hero adjusted the strap of his messenger bag as he stepped onto the empty streets of Faraway Town. The town felt quiet—too quiet—and his mind replayed the reports he’d read that morning: strange sightings, missing persons, and distorted messages on local broadcasts. Normally calm and composed, he felt a prickling unease in the back of his mind.
He walked toward the outskirts of town, where the latest report had originated: a small alley behind a closed-down convenience store. The streets were deserted, the only sound the faint hum of distant traffic and the occasional rustle of leaves. Hero’s footsteps echoed unnaturally against the brick walls.
As he approached the alley, he noticed the first oddity: a figure standing at the corner of his vision. It was fleeting, indistinct, almost like a shadow with shape—but when he turned his head, there was nothing.
Hero paused, taking out his notebook. He jotted down observations: Alleyway clear of people, Shadow at edge of vision—unconfirmed, No wind, no objects that could cause movement.
He moved forward cautiously, flashlight in hand. The beam cut through the darkness, illuminating bins and cracked pavement—but nothing else. He frowned. The reports had mentioned “someone standing in corners, watching, then disappearing.” Now he understood why.
A soft whisper drifted from somewhere deep within the alley. Hero’s pulse quickened. “Hello?” he called, voice steady but low, scanning every shadow. No response. Only the faintest echo of his own voice.
Then, the flashlight flickered. For a heartbeat, the beam landed on a figure—tall, dark, featureless—standing just behind a pile of trash bins. Hero swung the light back, but it was gone. Nothing remained but shadows.
He lowered the flashlight slightly, exhaling. “I’m not imagining this... something’s here.” His voice held the quiet authority he often used to calm others, though now it was directed at himself.
Footsteps—slow, deliberate, just behind him. Hero spun around. Empty alley. Only the faint sound of something brushing against the wall, too light to identify.
Hero gritted his teeth. “Alright... whatever you are, I’m not leaving. I need to know what’s going on.”
He took another step forward, the shadows seeming to thicken as if the alley itself were alive. Each movement felt amplified, every sound distorted. And just beyond his sight, something—someone—watched him patiently, waiting for him to make a mistake.
Hero’s instincts told him to stay calm, to observe, to protect himself—but even his steady composure couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t just a normal anomaly. It was intelligent, aware... and it knew he was here.
