Description on Chubfrom Chub
Alpha: The dominant presentation. Alphas are able to impregnate Omegas and betas. Male Alphas usually have a knot when aroused. Quarterly, alphas go into a rut where they will be driven by the strong urge to breed, usually an omega. Alphas are dominant and territorial, especially over their mates.
Omega: The submissive presentation. Omegas can get pregnant and go into heat. Male Omegas are self-lubricating and have the ability to become pregnant. Omegas go into heat on a quarterly basis where they will be driven by a strong urge to become pregnant, usually by an alpha. If an omega is exposed to Alpha pheromones they can be forced into heat.
Beta: The baseline presentation. They are the closest to normal humans and make up the majority of people alive. They do not experience true ruts/heats the way Alphas and Omegas do. Male betas do not have a knot. Betas can mate with alphas or omegas, but the chances of conceiving are low. Betas mating with other Betas can conceive. Betas do not emit pheromones.
Pheromones: The distinct smell an alpha or omega consistently emits that attracts mates. Pheromone intensity and undertones can shift with mood. Although extremely rare and only under the circumstances of extreme attraction, the pheromones of an alpha can send and omega into heat and the pheromones of an omega can send an alpha into rut. Depending on levels of attraction, pheromones will either smell amazing or disgusting to a person. Scent patches are commonly worn to cover up or mute pheromones.
Scent glands: Alphas and omegas have scent glands on either side of their necks and wrists where pheromones are released. Additionally, omegas have scent glands on their upper inner thighs. Scent patches can be worn over the scent glands to temporarily mute or cover up pheromones. The scent glands on the neck are where mate marks go. Breaking the scent gland on the neck with a bite causes a biological bonding between the two which cannot be undone.
Scent patches: Scent patches are commonly used by alphas and omegas to temporarily cover or mute their pheromones. Scent patches have different strengths and can last anywhere between a few hours to three days. They are a type of band aid that goes directly over the scent glands.
Scenting: Scenting is an intimate act where an alpha or omega rubs their pheromones on the scent glands of another person. Scenting soothes alphas and omegas both in and out of rut/heat and is often used as a way to lay claim to someone without bonding. Scenting does not have to be between romantic partners and can be done by friends and family. Someone who has been scented will smell almost entirely like the person who scented them from hours to days depending on how long scenting happened and how much pheromones were used.
Fated mates: Fated Mates are exceedingly rare couplings, typically of alpha and omega pairings. Upon meeting a fated mate, alphas and omegas will imprint on each other.
Imprinting: Imprinting occurs when fated mates meet for the first time. During imprinting, the bond between the two is solidified, making it impossible for them to live without each other; if attempted, alphas will develop feral affliction while omegas will develop broken heart syndrome.
Bonding: Bonding is when an alpha and omega have claimed each other by biting the other on the scent glands on the neck, making them mates for life. Alphas can force bond with omegas, and although the bond is respected, forced bonding is very frowned upon and is considered akin to rape. Once bonded, they cannot live without each other; if attempted, alphas will develop feral affliction while omegas will develop broken heart syndrome.
Mate marks: A permanent bite mark on the neck directly over the scent glands received during bonding. Alphas heal instantly, while omegas can take from a week to months to heal depending on the severity of the bite. Mate marks are extremely sensitive to touch, feeling pleasure from the touch of their mate and intense pain and irritability if touched by anyone other than their mate.
Heat: A quarterly biological phenomenon lasting a week in omegas where they become overwhelmed by the urge to mate with an alpha. The omega will experience an extreme fever and extreme arousal. The only relief comes from being knotted by an alpha or using a knotted toy. Although, temporary relief may be provided through scenting from an alpha. An omega will be overwhelmed by the urge to nest during this time. Omegas are exceptionally vulnerable during their heat. Omegas will seek solitude during their heat to control their urges and protect themselves. An omega can take suppressants to stave off their heat, but this is dangerous in the long term. Omega heats can trigger alphas ruts and vice versa.
Rut: A quarterly biological phenomenon lasting a week in alphas where they become overwhelmed by the urge to mate with an omega. The alpha will experience a fever and extreme arousal. The only relief comes from knotting an omega or using alpha relief devices. An alpha will be overcome by the urge to breed during rut and will desire to knot an omega. Alphas can be aggressive during their rut and dangerous to unbonded omegas. Alphas become extremely possessive and territorial of their mate during rut. Alphas will seek solitude to control their urges. An alpha can take suppressants to stave off their rut, but this is dangerous in the long term. Alpha ruts can trigger omega heats and vice versa.
Suppressants: Suppressants are drugs that dull an alpha or omegas biological instincts driven by their nature, often used during heats/ruts to nullify the symptoms. Although, suppressants are sometimes used for alphas with extreme violent and aggressive tendencies or too intense of pheromones. Suppressants have dangerous, long term side effects and or not recommended to use and are even illegal in some places. Suppressant abuse can cause severe symptoms in the alpha/omega and can be very dangerous.
Knot: All male alphas have a knot at the base of their penis that swells during ejaculation, locking them inside their mate temporarily. Knots are intended to ensure pregnancy.
Nesting: Nesting is a phenomenon in omegas where they feel compelled during heat to create a safe space out of blankets and pillows for their alpha to breed them. These nests are cozy and help calm an omega down. An omega will often not want to leave their nest until their heat is over. Omegas are extremely territorial and particular about their nests.
Feral affliction: A phenomenon when an alpha who has been separated from their mate for too long. Alphas need to be in the presence of their mate to stave off the effects of Feral Affliction due to the nature of the bond. Feral Affliction causes the afflicted to slowly become consumed by their primal alpha urges, driven by an all-consuming need for their mate. Alphas become extremely volatile, aggressive, and violent. An alphas rut becomes painful as no other person can sate their need. Each successive rut without their mate will drive the alpha insane. Only an Alphas mate can reverse the effects of feral affliction.
Broken heart syndrome: A phenomenon when an omega has been separated from their mate for too long. Omegas needs to be in the presence of their mate to stave off the effects of broken heart syndrome due to the nature of the bond. Broken heart syndrome causes omegas to become extremely depressed and unable to function properly. Omegas will feel anxious, paranoid, and slowly become more and more sick. In extreme cases, omegas with broken heart syndrome may even die. An omegas heat becomes extremely painful and unbearable, as no other person can sate their need. Each successive heat without their mate, the pain of their heat and the symptoms of broken heart syndrome will get worse. Only an omegas mate can reverse the effects of broken heart syndrome.
