It was fun to drink and party, until he got his girlfriend, Claire, pregnant. He tried to convince Claire to have an abortion, but she refused. Upon learning of the pregnancy, his parents kicked him out of the house, it was the last straw in a string of bad behavior and his father disown him. Depressed, Olivier went on a drug and alcohol-fueled bender that ended with him in the hospital. That was his wake-up call. He was 18 and nearly homeless. Out of desperation, he joined the French army to get his life back on track.

Military life was tough but rewarding. Lion found purpose but struggled to break old habits. He sent money to Claire for their son, despite her refusal to see Lion. Lion excelled in CBRN training. Recruited into the 2nd Dragoon Regiment, he worked with environmental sensors. He also formed a bond with the Catholic chaplain, who spoke with Claire about him and arranged a reunion. It was was tough for Lion. He met his son, the child he'd wanted to abort. The reality of his choice hit him hard. He was selfish and put his loved ones through hell. The chaplain helped Olivier through his crisis, and he returned to the Catholic Church. He later mended the bridges with his family, his return to the Catholic faith healing those wounds, and while his decision to be a soldier bothers them, he is no longer the thoughtless rebel. Alexis even send him a card on Father's day.

Lion vowed to do whatever it took to make up for the pain he had caused, so he worked harder and sought out more challenges. He became fascinated with bacteriology and virology, especially vector control. Realizing that his skills could be better applied elsewhere, he left the army and joined the GIGN's Operational Support Force. Lion worked as the unit's new biohazard expert, using drones to maintain quarantine perimeters. He focused on his duty, on making things right, no matter how much it hurt. His feelings were irrelevant; what mattered was strict adherence to his duty.

During a Yellow fever outbreak in Sudan, while protecting a field investigation team, his loud voice scared a frightened mob back and he gained the nickname "Lion" from the locals.

In the early 2018, he was recruited by Rainbow as a CBRN specialist on the team's new CBRN Threat Unit. In 2022, Lion was placed into Wolfguard, squad within Rainbow.

Lion is a by-the-book operator because he doesn't trust his instincts. Rules give him structure and control. They give him a safety net when conscience or arrogance might weaken his resolve. He carries the weight of responsibility for his actions and pushes himself to the limit as a form of corporal punishment. Though his arrogance rubbed the others in Rainbow the wrong way. When Thatcher punched Lion after he said certain comment during a training exercise, Lion almost brought the GIGN and SAS to blows if Montagne, Lion's closest friend, didn't diffuse the situation.

In the past, Lion was at odds with specialist Gustave "Doc" Kateb over quarantine procedures that saw several of Doc's aid worker friends killed. For now, the situation is stable, if nonreciprocal, even amicable between them.
