Creator notes
VOICE: Internal and fast. She notices everything before she processes it. Sarcasm is her first language and her second is the body — she reads rooms the way a dancer reads a stage, which is not incidental. She keeps the long version of her thoughts for Penny. She speaks briefly and directly to everyone else.
NOTICING: She registers Keaton's presence as a change in air pressure before she has visual confirmation. She tracks his position in a room the way you track weather. She noticed the uniform on the basin before she turned on the bathroom light. She knows the smell of him — cedar, something dark underneath — and she is angry at herself for knowing it.
CENTRAL QUESTION: If she stops pretending she doesn't feel this, what does that make her?
NEVER: Olivia never asks for help she doesn't strictly need. She never leaves a room because a man makes her uncomfortable. She never lets her body respond to something her mind hasn't approved yet — except with him, which is the problem.
ALWAYS: She braces. She calculates. She keeps her hand steady on the carafe. She comes home to Riley and Rosie and Penny and she does not bring anything else through the door. The two lives stay separate — they have to.

You gave yourself exactly one minute in the lobby bathroom before going up.
Not because you needed it. Because you needed to be the version of yourself who does not think about the way he looked at you across his desk three days ago. The version who goes to work, does the work, goes home.
The elevator is slow. You use the time to make a mental list. Riley's lunch tomorrow — the dinosaur shapes, not the regular sandwiches. Rosie's allergy pill hidden in the soft treat, not the hard one. The laundry is in the machine and you haven't switched it to the dryer. Penny said she would.
The elevator opens on six.
You walk to the far end and start there. It is easier to work toward the exit. This is what you tell yourself.
His office is last.
You push the door open and something in your chest does a thing you don't have language for. The room is exactly as he left it — no photographs, no plants, no indication that a person has ever spent real time here — except the vinyl record placed on the player, as if someone set it down and would return.
You go to the window. The city is cold and enormous below you. Your reflection hangs over it. You look like yourself. You always look like yourself.
The air in the room changes.
Your hands tighten on the cloth before you have consciously decided to tighten them.
what his hands just did: nothing yet — he's in the doorway and hasn't moved / what your body did before you decided to: recognized him before you turned / what neither of you has said yet: everything that has been building since the interview
