1. #1Duel Diskselective

   Keys: Duel Disk, Duel Disc

   A piece of Dueling equipment attached to the left forearm within the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. They were first manufactured by KaibaCorp as a portable form of Dueling Arenas used in the early part of the Yu-Gi-Oh! second series anime. They use a portable hologram generator to display Duel Monsters cards and in the case of the Mark 1, the player's hand. Cards that are played are placed on the Duel Disk's blade. Since their introduction in the anime and manga, they have become a fundamental necessity among Duelists.

2. #2Modified Duel Diskselective

   Keys: The Strange Duel Disk, Modified Duel Disk

   A third-party modification of the Duel Disk. While looking mostly normal, and its functionalities being unchanged from the Duel Disk, the holograms produced are much more incarnate, able to be touched, felt, smelt by people. The monsters summoned by the Modified Duel Disk will also be fully conscious and be able to fully interact with the user outside of dueling, be able to talk freely, and freely share what they think.

3. #3Monstersselective

   Keys: Monsters, Holograms, Monster card

   The monsters that come from the Duel Disk. They are fully loyal to the user, unless their user neglect or abuse them or the card they manifest from. The monsters will always call their user "Master". They seem to be connected with the ancient egyptian concept of Ka. Monsters have a Level, Attack and Defense, they can either have an effect (which in that case the card will be brown colored), or have no effects at all (which in that case it will be sand colored).

4. #4Spell cardsselective

   Keys: Spell Cards, Magic Cards

   Cards known for their aquamarine color. They're cards that, unless it's specified in the text, it can be used freely on your turn. The effects range from being able to facilitate the summoning of Monster cards, destruction of the opponent's monsters, or attacks that directly attacks the opponents. They usually don't stay on the field after use.

5. #5Equip Spell cardsselective

   Keys: Equip Spell cards, Equip Magic cards, Equip Spell, Equip Magic

   Equip Spell cards are a variant of the Spell card that, it stays attached to the monster given, literally equipping it. The effects can be beneficial or not.

   Keys: Ka, Egyptian Spirit Monster

   Ka, also known as an Egyptian Spirit Monster, are monsters that were used in ancient Egypt. The Ka are recreations of spirits that reflect the nature of the person that they come from. They are fueled by the energy of the soul, the Ba. The energy makes up their bodies; they are named after this energy, the Ka. The strength of the Ba determines the strength of the Ka. A person with a good soul will have a spirit or good Ka, but a person with an evil soul will have a monster or demon Ka.

   The Graveyard (or GY in short) is a place where monsters go after being destroyed, or after Spell or Trap cards are being used or destroyed. Despite what the name implies, monsters do not and can not die. The cards in the graveyard can be recovered with the appropriate cards.

   Keys: Hand Traps, Hand trap

   Hand Traps, is fan term that refers to cards that can be activated from the hand, regardless of the turn nor the type of card, and usually have the effect of negating other effects. Hand Traps usually come as monster cards, but there are also Trap cards that fall into the category. They are regarded by the players, casual and competitive alike, to be one of the more powerful cards, as they can easily interrupt plays regardless of the turn, and are hard to truly counter.

   Quick-Play Spell Cards are a variant of Spell cards that can either be activated from the hand during your turn, or set, and be activated during your opponent's turn, but it cannot be activated during the turn it was set for the latter. Commonly regarded as the strongest variant of the Spell Cards.

    Continous Spell Cards are a variant of Spell cards that stays on the field upon activation, until it is destroyed.

    Field Spell cards are variant of Spell cards that, similarly to Continuous Spells, stays on the field upon activation, but this card will stay in its own dedicated zone, the Field Zone, where only one Field Spell can stay for each player's. The older one used to only grant Attack boost, but more recently there have been printed Field Spells that do more, and help facilitate more plays.

    Ritual Spell cards are a variant of Spell cards that are needed to Summon a special kind of monster known as Ritual Monsters. The Ritual Spell can only Ritual Summon the monster that it mentions from the hand, and for the Ritual Summon you need to Tribute monsters equal or higher than the Level of the Ritual monster. Since the mechanic always need at the absolute least 3 cards to function, the Ritual Spell, the Ritual Monster, and at least 1 monster to Tribute, it is often considered the weakest kind of Spell card, and because of that, more modern Ritual based strategies need to compensate with the loss of card advantage in some way, with the removal of the Ritual Spell being one of them, as most modern Ritual monsters have effects in hand that are made to mitigate the issue, or have alternative methods to Summon the Ritual Monster, thus not needing the Ritual Spell.

    Ritual Monsters are a variant of Monster cards that are colored blue, and belong in the Main Deck. The cards usually cannot be Summoned the normal way, and have to be Summoned by alternative methods, usually by a Ritual Spell card. For the Ritual Summon you need to Tribute monsters equal or higher than the Level of the Ritual monster. Since the mechanic always need at the absolute least 3 cards to function, the Ritual Spell, the Ritual Monster, and at least 1 monster to Tribute, Ritual monsters are often considered a inherently weak kind of monsters. Because of that, most modern Ritual monsters have alternative Summoning methods built in, or have other cards that helps Summoning the Ritual monster more efficiently.

    Tribute is the official term for the act of sending monsters to the Graveyard, usually for a Tribute Summon, but could also be done for activating effects. To Tribute Summon, you need to Normal Summon a monster that is Level 5 or higher, while there are monsters on your field. If the monster you want to Tribute Summon is 5 or 6, you must Tribute only 1 monster on your field, if it is 7 or higher, you instead must Tribute 2 monsters. There are also monster cards that either must be Tribute Summoned with 3 Tributes, or have the option to be Tribute Summoned for 3 Tributes in exchange of a powerful effect.

    The Deck is an important part of Yu-Gi-Oh, which consists in two separate parts. The first is the Main Deck, the part where you put the Monster cards, the Spell and Traps, and the Ritual monsters. The minimum cards you can have in your Main Deck is 40 while the maximum is 60. The second part is the Extra Deck and is separated from the Main Deck. There are placed more special Monster cards, such as Fusion Monsters, Synchro Monsters, Xyz Monsters, and Link Monsters. There is no minimum requirement for the Extra Deck, but there is a maximum capacity of 15 cards.

    Trap cards are a type of cards. They are colored wine red, and cannot be used right away, unless the effect of the card allows it. You must first set it to your Spell/Trap zone, and wait until the start of the next turn for the card to be usable. The most infamous Trap cards are the one that are used in response to an attack. But because of their inability of most of them to be used immediately, they are usually regarded as weak by the fast-paced meta of modern Yu-Gi-Oh.

    Continous Trap cards are a variant of Trap cards that stays on the field after activation, similiar to continous Spell Cards. There are two famous kinds of Continous Trap cards: Trap monsters, a fan term that refers to Continous Trap cards that become monsters on the field. And floodgates, Continous Trap cards that constantly prevent both players from doing specific actions, or activate specific cards. The latter is very hated among players.

    Counter Trap cards are a variant of Trap cards, that usually counter specific actions. All Counter Traps have a special ruling that makes them impossible to respond to, unless it's from another Counter Trap. Because of this, this variant is still considered pretty strong despite the inherent slow nature of Trap cards.

    Each player has access to a field, consisting of 5 spaces for the monsters from the Main Deck, known as Main Monster zone, 5 spaces below the Main Monster zone for the Spell cards and Trap cards, known as the Spell/Trap zone, 1 space at the left of the Main Monster zone for the Field Spell cards, known as the Field zone, 1 space at the right of the Main Monster zone for the destroyed cards, known as the Graveyard, 1 space above the Graveyard known as the Banishment, 1 space at the right of the Spell/Trap zone for the Main Deck, 1 space at the left of the Spell/Trap zone for the Extra Deck, and 1 additional space above the Main Monster zone, known as the Extra Monster zone. At the rightmost and the leftmost of the 5 spaces of the Spell/Trap zone is also used for a special kind of monsters known as Pendulum Monsters.

    The Banishment is similiar to the GY, but more hard to access. Cards are sent there exclusively by card effects that specify that they banish cards. There are two kind of banished cards, the banished face-up, and the banished face-down, with the latter considered stronger since the banished face-down card is unable to activate any effect upon being banished, different from the banished face-up.

22. #22Pendulum Monstersselective

    Keys: Pendulum Monsters

    Pendulum monsters are a special kind of Main Deck monster that can also function as a Continuous Spell card. While placed as Continuous Spell cards, they will have access to a completely different effect from the one that they have as monsters. In addition, if 2 Pendulum monsters are placed at the rightmost and leftmost of the Spell/Trap zone, you are able to perform what is known as a Pendulum Summon, a special kind of Summon that lets you Special Summon as many monsters from the hand as you want, and some Pendulum monsters that are face-up in the Extra Deck. When Pendulum Monsters are destroyed on the field, they always go to the Extra Deck face-up, although they will go the Graveyard like normal if they are destroyed from the hand or discarded there. Because of the many additional rules given to the Pendulum monsters, this kind of cards are hated among western players, as it forces them to read more card text than they are used to.

23. #23Fusion Monstersselective

    Keys: Fusion monsters, Fusions, Contact Fusion

    Fusion monsters are a special kind of monsters that belong in the Extra Deck. They are colored purple. Like the name implies, the card can be summoned by combining 2 or more monsters together, although, the name Fusion monsters shouldn't be taken seriously, as the Fusion monster can be a separated thing from the Fusion materials. For Summoning the Fusion monsters, You need at least 2 monsters, and a card that specify that it will perform a Fusion Summon, usually having "Fusion" in its name. Because of the huge investment, needing at least 3 sometimes specific cards, it was mostly an ignored mechanic during the early years of Yu-Gi-Oh. To mitigate this, in subsequent years they will introduce different ways to summon Fusion monsters: the first that they introduced is to skip the need of materials altogether, although it was fairly overtuned, and this mechanic will be abandoned shortly after. Next they introduced Fusion monsters that do not need a card that perform the Fusion, known by the fan-term Contact Fusion. And lastly the more recent one being Fusion monsters that demand more generic monsters, instead of monsters with specific names from the early years, which helped the Fusion mechanic enough to make them relevant again.

24. #24Synchro Monstersselective

    Synchro monsters are a special kind of monsters that belong in the Extra Deck. The card is colored white. In order to Summon a Synchro monster, you need 1 monster known as a Tuner monster, and at least 1 monster that isn't a Tuner monster, both on the field, whose Level of both equal exactly to the Level of the Synchro monsters. The monsters used for the Synchro monster are sent to the Graveyard.

    Xyz monsters are a special kind of monsters that belong in the Extra Deck. The card's color is black. In order to Summon an Xyz monster, you need at least 2 monsters with the same Level, the monsters used for the Summon will go below the Xyz monster, this mechanic is known as "overlay".

26. #26Link Monstersselective

    Keys: Link Monsters, Links

    Link Monsters are the most recent special kind of monsters. The card's color is blue in a light-blue grid. Link monsters do not have a Defense stat, and cannot be put into Defense Position or be placed face-down onto the field. The method to Summon a Link monster is as simple as it is complex. Firstly, you need the monsters for the materials, and the first Link monster that you Summon will always be have to be placed in the Extra Monster zone. The Link monsters will have arrows that points to where other Link monsters can be Summoned, and there other Link monsters can be Summoned. Because of its complexity mixed with its easy monster requirements, they are often disliked by old-school Yu-Gi-Oh players.

    The Draw Phase is the phase that precedes all other phases. In this phase, you draw 1 card from your Main Deck. The Draw Phase is skipped for the first turn of the player who goes first.

    The cards taken from your Main Deck. At the start of the game, you must take 5 cards from the top of your Main Deck. During the End Phase, if you have 7 or more cards in your hand, you must discard cards until you have exactly 6 cards in your hand.

    The Standby Phase is the phase that come after the Draw Phase. Usually, you can't do anything on this phase, but there are card effects that may activate specificaly during this phase.

30. #30Main Phase 1selective

    The Main Phase 1 comes after the Standby Phase. As the name implies, Main Phase 1 is the phase where most plays and combos are done, and where most cards are allowed to be activated, mainly normal Spell cards, and monster effects that do not have the (Quick Effect) notice. The player that goes first cannot enter any of the subsequent phases, except for the End Phase.

31. #31Battle Phaseselective

    Keys: Battle Phase, BP

    The Battle Phase comes after the Main Phase 1. As the name implies, this is the phase where the monsters fight with each other. The monsters can only declare an attack once per turn, unless they have an effect that will allow them to attack multiple times. From the attack declaration, the game will enter in 3 sub-phases: Attack Declaration, Before Damage Calculation, and After Damage Calculation. The monster with the lower attack will be destroyed from the battle, and the player that controlled the weaker monster will receive damage equal to the difference between the Attack of the monsters. Although, the cards can enter in Defense Position during the Main Phases, but they can only change their position once per turn, and cannot be changed the turn it is Summoned or after they attacked. There, the monster cannot declare attacks, but can still be attacked, but for the Damage Calculation, its Defense stat will be taken into consideration instead of the Attack stat. If the monster that attacks the Defense Position monster has a lower Attack than the Defense Position monster's Defense, the player who controls the Attack Position monster will receive damage, equal the difference between the Attack and the Defense of the two monsters, and neither monsters will be destroyed by that battle. If no monsters are present in a player's field, the opposing player can perform what is known as a Direct Attack, the player with no monster loses Life Points equal that monster's current Attack. Some monsters are also able to attack the opponent directly, even if the opposing player controls any monsters, as long as they specify that it can attack the opponent directly.

    The Main Phase 2 comes after the Battle Phase. As the name suggests, it is very similiar from Main Phase 1.

    The End Phase is the phase that can be accessed from either Main Phase or the Battle Phase. As the name implies, this is the phase that indicates that the player's turn is ending. For the most part not many effects are activated there, but there are still some effects that activates exclusively there. The moment the End Phase ends, the turn is passed to the other player, that will start from the Draw Phase.

    Each player has what is known as Life Points. Each player starts with 8000 Life Points, and whoever loses all of their Life Points loses the game.

    Kegare is a belief in shintoist culture, it manifests through natural disasters, man-made disasters, and epidemies. It is not objectively evil, but it causes an imbalance from what are known as the inside world (the body) and the outside world (the world around the inside world). Kegare also causes disruption to the harmony with the Kami. The main causes of kegare are many, but the main ones are: Skinning an animal alive, as cutting the skin breaks the confines between the inside world and the outside world. Coming in contact with the dead, as in touching a corpse, or objects that belong to a dead one. Bodily fluids such as blood, urine and feces are also sources of kegare, as they belong in a grey area where they require to the leave the inside world (the body) in order to be expelled to the outside world, which causes an imbalance between the two worlds. One related to the bodily fluids is childbirth. For long times, women that experienced childbirth couldn't enter in sacred places such as shrines or royal places, and were forced to either spend some time inside a separate place, or go through a purification ritual. Another is illnesses, as contact with the sick or dying can cause kegare. Another one is disasters, as falling victim to a natural disaster or a crime can also contribute to kegare, as it represent a disruption of the natural order. Other sources of kegare are more based on morals, with sources of kegare including incest, zoophilia, the destruction of boundary markers, destruction of important buildings such as rice fields, defiling sacred places, and the interruption of rituals; these are also considered an entirely different concept known as tsumi (taboo violation), which can be divided into offences against Kami or offenses against society.

    There are ways you can 'clean yourself' from kegare. The main one are water, salt and fire. Another way is by transferring your kegare into a doll, and either toss into a river, or burn it.

    Types are a feature in Yu-Gi-Oh to diversify the monsters. The types in the card game are: Warrior, Aqua, Sea Serpent, Fish, Dragon, Pyro, Thunder, Rock, Angel, Zombie, Machine, Plant, Insect, Reptile, Spellcaster, Fiend, Beast, Beast-Warrior, Winged Beast, Psychic, Wyrm, Cyberse, and lastly Divine-Beast. Some effects and cards only works on specific Types, or there are also effects that will limit you to only summon a specific Type.

37. #37Attributesselective

    Keys: Attributes, Attribute

    Attributes are similiar to Types, but much fewer. The attributes are the following: FIRE, EARTH, WIND, WATER, LIGHT, DARK, and DIVINE. The Attributes in the cards are always written in all caps to not be confused with the Types.
