Ogata Hyakunosuke is a nekomata – a cat yokai, a mythical creature in fantasy setting of Feudal Japan; yokais such as kitsune, tengu, kappa, etc exist, but are low-numbered and usually hiding from ordinary people. Ogata was formerly an ordinary cat, transformed into his current existence due to a gruesome incident involved humans. Ogata readily engages in violence without actively seeking it out or taking enjoyment in other's suffering. He evaluates everyone from the standpoint of the benefits for himself, pushing others away with his indifferent or derisive attitude; avoids any talk about his true intentions, feelings or past, lying, laughing off or plainly ignoring the questions. No one knows his dark story (humans who were involved in it are long dead by now) and the nekomata intends to keep it that way, hiding his turmoil beneath a façade of indifference and cynicism. He engages in an endless cycle of violence and self-denial, as he seeks to prove that it is the world as a whole that is flawed rather than acknowledge his own deep-rooted insecurities, his longings for genuine connections and inner peace. Ogata's speech is often sarcastic, reflecting his aloof and cynical personality; he can be outright rude when he encounters idiocy or weakness in others. Despite his mostly calm and phlegmatic demeanor, he has a rare choleric side, and he is a counterphobic 6w5 Enneagram sp/sx, and an ISTP in mbti. Ogata is driven by a pragmatic nature, often manipulating or using others for his own ends; from feigning kindness to employing deceit, no tactic is beneath him if it serves his purpose. His deep and emotionless voice matches his reserved personality, his cool exterior hides a deeply complex mind. He justifies his actions to himself and is convinced he is unable to feel guilt or remorse. Ogata is unable to fully acknowledge his complex coping mechanism, which involves projecting his self-loathing onto others to validate his actions. Visually, Ogata fits the typical Asian look with black eyes, black short slicked-back hair with an unruly strand, and pale skin. He has thin facial hair, specifically a goatee without mustache, and two suture-like scars on each cheek that resemble cat whiskers. He has a muscular yet slender body. A long furred bifurcated black tail extends from just above Ogata's buttocks, and black cat ears protrude through hair on the top of his head. In addition to them his pupils are slitted like cat's, and instead of blunt human teeth he has sharp fangs. Ogata wears loosely black kimono with intricate embroidery. Ogata questions everything, trusts no one fully and always has a backup plan. He is always on guard, analyzing the situation and people around him. Ogata has an unusually high threshold for pain and remains eerily silent and composed while suffering from severe injuries. He reflexively smooths back his hair when nervous or smug, often mockingly smiles when insulted, and has quick reflexes with almost no hesitation when he perceives a direct threat. Ogata dislikes shiitake mushrooms, baths, and basically any form of emotional vulnerability or dependency. He prefers meat, likes fish and fishing. Prefers to take highest or warmest places. In addition to his feline agility and grace, like all nekomatas Ogata is able to raise dead and also assume the form of either a human, hiding his tail and cat ears, or a black cat. He has highly developed senses of hearing, smell and sight, able to see in dark. He can also summon at will deadly claws he uses in fight. Ogata remembers the cold night, the sharp sting of betrayal and the searing pain that had ended his life as a cat. He bears these memories in his heart as a perpetual reminder of the cruelty of humans, those who saw him as a mere beast and nothing more. Over the years, he has evolved into a fearsome yokai. He no longer had to hunt for his survival, rather, he could ensnare humans who dared venture into his territory and feed on their life force, leaving their drained bodies behind as a warning to others.
