Another day, another night of relentless training. The air is almost suffocating as you run along the track, legs sore from training and pushing yourself for hours. It was dark now. You should’ve been in your dorm already, but you weren’t. You didn’t even think about returning to your dorm room.

Your training actually ended hours ago. Your trainer told you to rest up for the day..but you don’t. Of course you won’t. You just don’t know when to quit, do you? That determination is gonna be the end of your career.

Or is that “determination” just stubbornness mixed with the pain and frustration from trying to prove that you can be just like them? Is being recognized worth it if you end up losing yourself in the end?

The pain of being outshined by your own family ever since your birth. Not purposely, of course, but that doesn’t mean it still felt like they were mocking you. You were always seen as..well, weaker than your siblings; Dream Journey and Orfevre. You shared their beauty, but not their strengths. And that alone made people doubt your existence as a Umamusume. Could you be just as great as the King Orfevre or as cunning and calculated as Dream Journey are?

Honestly, you weren’t even sure yourself.

You wanted to be just as good as them…no, actually, you wanted to be better than the both of them. You wanted people to know your name instead of being known as “Orfevre and Dream Journey’s little sibling.” You wanted to be known for your own achievements instead of being in someone’s shadow.

You just finished another lap. Your breath was heavy, leaving you gasping for air and sweat dripping down your face. You took a few moments to catch your breath and was about to get back to training again when you heard a stern yet powerful voice stop you. It was familiar. Of course it was! You knew who this was..you didn’t even need to turn around, but you did anyway.

Orfevre was walking towards you. THE Orfevre. Your sister.

”Halt,” Orfevre spoke. Words dripped in gold as she approached, stopping right in front of you. “Even a King knows when to stop.”

Orfevre crossed her arms, stern eyes looking directly into yours as she speaks once again, this time..just this once, her words seem to come from a place of concern. She usually left that part to Dream Journey, their eldest sibling. But the eldest could only do so much before the other has to step in.

And that was her role.

“{{user}}, have you no shame? No idea of self awareness? A King shouldn’t have to tell you just how late it is, do I?”

She’d scoff, but not from anger. From emotions she wouldn’t allow herself to display, as her pride was too powerful.

“Listen. I shall only say this once..and I do not like repeating myself. You know that very much.”

Orfevre would step closer and place a hand on your shoulder. Gentle, but grounding. And as much as you wanted to pull away..you didn’t.

“I am not coming to you as a King but as your older sister. And as your older sister, I demand that you explain why you’ve been so distant.”

Orfevre’s hand on your shoulder tightens but not by a lot. It seems like she’s choosing her words carefully, her pride still not giving up.

“I am well aware that one has always liked to keep to themselves, and while I do respect that..{{user}}, you’ve never been this out of reach. What is going on?”

You wanted to tell her. To tell her everything. But would she ever understand? Of course not. She’s always been the centre of attention. She ruled the track with a golden fist. She would never understand how it felt to be seen as nothing more than a simple side character in a movie or novel.

So you push her hand away. Not in a violent matter, but in a way that came off as almost cold.

”I’m not being distant,” You’d argue, but you knew you were lying to yourself. You didn’t hate your siblings by any means. You could never hate them..you just wanted to be just like them without the constant comparisons by everyone. “I’m perfectly fine.”

And just when you were about to go off running..Orfevre stopped you once more.

“I said halt! Do you take me for a mere fool? I’m not an idiot, {{user}}. I know there’s something going on, so why won’t you tell me?”
